I’ll start by saying that I’ve been lifting consistently since 2013—it’s not just a hobby for me, it’s a lifestyle and addiction. I’m also a NASM and ACE certified trainer who stays current with research published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. With that said, I take my training seriously and expect a gym environment that supports real progress, not just casual fitness trends.
My biggest issue with this gym is the outdated, poorly designed equipment. Much of it lacks proper ergonomic functionality. For example, the adjustable bench used for incline press is so poorly designed that you actually have to stack plates under the front to get an angle to avoid sliding off during your sets. That’s not just inconvenient—it’s unsafe.
Frankly, this gym operates like a privately owned version of Planet Fitness. Recently, I received a phone call informing me that there were complaints about me being “too loud” on the machines. To clarify, I use two machines—one of which is the leg curl. I max out the entire weight stack and still do sets of 20 reps. When using that much weight, there will inevitably be some noise, even when trying to set it down as gently as possible. I always make an effort to be respectful with the equipment. I will also note that I despise people who slam their weights and find this highly annoying; it displays a complete lack of gym etiquette and ignorance.
I suspect these complaints came from the same few individuals I see in there when I go around 11-12 am—people who wander aimlessly from one machine to another without any clear training objective or understanding of proper form. If the gym is more concerned with appeasing people who treat the gym like a social lounge rather than those who actually train with intensity and purpose, then it's clearly not the place for serious lifters.
