I’ve been training at CrossFit Protocol for the last 3-4 months now and the progress I’ve seen in my overall health has been incredible. The coaches are highly safety-focused, always taking the time to ensure proper form and provide clear instruction prior to and during the workout, which gives me confidence and helps prevent injury. One of the things I appreciate most is that the workouts are fully scalable—I can adjust to a level that challenges me while still being able to complete the entire workout. This balance has kept me consistent and motivated.
The community here is another huge highlight. Everyone is welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, which makes it so much easier to stay committed. Whether you’re new to CrossFit or looking to push yourself further, CrossFit Protocol is a great place to improve your health and get connected within the Decatur community.

I joined CrossFit Protocol in Decatur a little over a year ago, and the progress I’ve experienced has been incredible. The coaching team and owners go above and beyond—not only by providing challenging, effective workouts, but also by taking the time to work with me individually. They’ve helped me correct movements I had been doing incorrectly for years, ensuring my form is safe and effective to avoid injury.
What sets this gym apart is the welcoming community and the variety of class times offered throughout the day, which makes it easy to stay consistent no matter your schedule. CrossFit Protocol has not only improved my fitness but has also built my confidence, both in myself and in supporting others. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

I can not love this place and the people more. My husband’s doctor actually recommended this for him and they all welcomed him with open arms, open hearts, and willing to teach him in every area needed in a CrossFit gym. They are a CrossFit family who holds you accountable all while cheering you on with positivity. If you are looking for a CrossFit gym then I highly recommend CrossFit protocol, the owners are great, and the ppl are supportive. They lead by example!

I have never been a person to leave bad reviews of any kind, but I am simply upset enough to do now. I recently moved to the Decatur area and I had got in contact with the owners of Crossfit Protocol as the gym looked downright awesome and really appealed to my programming which required open gym as I am removed from classes to focus on my own goals of competing at a high level! I was told that it is standard policy to approach your first 90 days in the gym within the class setting which is completely understandable as I am new and community integration is important. It was eventually worked out after they contacted my coach (they receive programming from his organization) that it would be acceptable to train during the class times so long as I didn't interrupt, and I was happy to oblige! I typically only have about 2ish hours to train during these windows when class goes on so I knew it would be a crunch but I choose to go forward and work with what I was offered as I was looking forward to getting back to my busy routine. I had done three sessions and at the end of my third session I was approached by Hanna (owner of the gym) who requested to speak with me. She then begins to explain how it is not appreciated that I come into the gym, put my airpods in, and simply do my training off to the side. She also expressed great disappointment that I had moved a GHR across her turf and onto the gym floor earlier in the morning, citing that the turf could potentially be damaged as a result. I apologized to her about moving the equipment as I simply didn't know the correct procedure (which was picking up the equipment as opposed to dragging it like I had). Moving the GHR is on me and it was a failure on my end to understand how this gym treats their facility. However this is where I will pivot and start to delve into where I would not recommend this gym. I have been training in gyms for the better part of a decade and a half, and I have never felt so unwelcome into a community as I have here. I must clarify that this is on the end of the ownership alone, and nothing to do with the handful of individuals I had met during my short time. I was told during my meeting with Hanna that "its like you think you are above everyone because you don't want to do the 90 days of classes before you are allowed to have full access to the open gym". I was also told that "you put your airpods in, don't talk to anyone, walk in straight lines everywhere, and do your own thing". I have never felt such disrespect coming from the owner of a gym that serves a community. If we agreed that I could come and do open gym, then abide by that. I do not understand why there is a level of expectation when it comes to interacting with other individuals in the gym and not being allowed the freedom to come in and simply do my own thing. That being said, how can it be mentioned that I am not interacting with individuals when I met people like Mike, Evan, and Victoria within my first three sessions at the gym. I believe anyone would tell you from my athletic journey that I am a very nice, calm, and empathic individual. At my previous CF gym I loved going and chatting with everyone, because I had known them for months, and I regularly hung out with them outside the gym as they provided my support group away from my family. I was then offered an ultimatum by Hanna that I could either do 90 days of classes and figure out the rest of my training with my coach, or not come back at all. All of this was also joined with a lack of respect from Hanna towards my words as when I spoke she shook her head in disapproval and I honestly don't think she even cared for what I had to say to her in that moment. I chose to no longer attend this CF gym. I am sure this gym has a great community and I would've loved to get to know everyone but unfortunately I feel outcasted as a result of how management chose to handle the situation. Even if I wanted to consider doing the 90 days of classes, there is no chance I would have ever bonded with management after that conversation.

CrossFit Protocol is exactly what my wife and I were looking for. We wanted a gym that was family focused, fun yet competitive atmosphere, great coaches, a space where our kids can play and somewhere we can grow together and create real relationships. We have been to a lot of gyms and this one has by far exceeded all our expectations. We love this gym and we love the people.

I started Crossfit Protocol almost 12 years ago (at 43 years old)and have never looked back! At almost 56 years old, I can truly say I'm in the best shape of my life. From the coaching staff to the athletes that come in every single day and work so hard to improve their fitness, it is a one of a kind place! If you are looking for a family friendly and encouraging place to start or resume your fitness journey, Crossfit Protocol is for you!

This gym in an incredible place to be and is the best part of my day! Before joining, I was at a place in my life where I was tired of being fat, tired of running out of breath just walking to my son’s play room, tired of being stuck in a rut. I needed a community of people to hold me accountable, and I needed knowledgeable instructors to keep me from hurting myself. Protocol offers all that and so much more. Hanna, a coach and owner, was a physical therapist, and it shows in her approach and the mentality of the gym as a whole. Workouts are scaled, coaches correct in real time, and the main concern is safety. EVERYONE is encouraging and supportive. Results are real!

I've been a proud member of CrossFit Protocol for over a decade now, and I can't say enough wonderful things about this place! The incredible sense of community, the top-notch coaching staff, and the challenging yet rewarding workouts have kept me coming back year after year. Every session pushes me to be my best self, and the encouragement from both the coaches and fellow members is simply unmatched.
The programming is diverse, catering to all ages and fitness levels, and the facility is top notch, always clean, and well-equipped. The emphasis on proper technique ensures not only effective workouts but also injury prevention. Special events and challenges add excitement and variety, making fitness a fun part of life.
Whether you're a seasoned athlete or new to CrossFit, Protocol is a place where you'll feel welcome, supported, and motivated. It's more than just a gym; it's a family. Here's to many more great years ahead!

This place is home! After graduating from Auburn University and progressing into adulthood, this place made me feel like family immediately. They always say that once you leave college you have to try and plug yourself into a place to make friends, and Crossfit Protocol made that possible and beyond easy. Your gym friends truly are your best friends. If you’re looking for a close group of friends, i definitely recommend Crossfit Protocol!

The only box I'll go to when I'm in Decatur! Worked out there for a few days when I was in town for business in the summer and went back last week. Big Red, Adam, and everyone else were so friendly as always and made me feel right at home- they even remembered me from when I was there months ago. Great, awesome people who welcome you and joke around with you like you're a regular. I recommend it all my coworkers who travel routinely to Decatur.
