My daughter was terrified of swimming. We had a trial class and - as expected- she was terrified and crying and noncompliant. What I didn’t see coming was the kindness, care, and professionalism of their entire staff.

To start the visit off- the people at the front desk were so kind. Exceptional people working here, starting with the first interaction.

The first thing I noticed before class even started was the on duty lifeguard that never took his eyes off the water and was constantly walking around. You would have thought his own child was in the pool and learning how to swim.

Then when my daughter’s class started and it was clear that she would need some major coaxing, that same lifeguard sat next to her the entire class, giving her high fives and pop-it’s to keep her motivated and regulated. (A new lifeguard went on shift- they had MULTIPLE lifeguards at all times). My daughter swam every turn and participated in the whole class. Her teacher Giovanna was so patient with her and really went above and beyond to get her to participate.

The staff here are very hands on. Coaches are in the water with the kids, helping them to correct their strokes as they go. A lifeguard is always on duty in addition to that. The facility is extremely well organized. After each lesson you get feedback from the coach. Comfortable chairs are available for parent viewing of the lesson with ample space . This is very different from my experience at other teaching facilities. I highly recommend this organization.

If your kid was anything like mine, it will be a slow process. She didn’t like water splashing her face. She wouldn’t dare put her face under water. There was no way she would push off the pool step to glide. Ohhh, and she would put up a fight and cry when the instructor tried to get her to float. Notice how all of that was in past tense. She’s been a member since December Goldfish Swim School - Hoover and we are happy with the decision. We love her instructor, Austin. Think about what we spend money on that is so unnecessary. This is a great investment for her safety and my peace of mind. The timing, price, and student to instructor ratio is similar to other swim programs. We have been taking our daughter to Goldfish Swim School for roughly two months and love it. The facility is super clean and has amenities that make the overall experience pleasant (showers to wash off in the pool area, hairdryer bar with blow dryers provided, machine to wring out extra water in swimsuits, tons of changing rooms big enough for parent/child, and a coloring table). It is aesthetically pleasing with their large underwater mural, palm trees, and aquarium. And most importantly all of the staff has been extremely professional and courteous. Our daughter loves the instructors and has begun to feel so much more confident in the water.

My son won 4 free lessons with Goldfish Swim School-Hoover and we were very excited about the lessons. The location is about 35-40 minutes away from where we live so we knew that it would be a possibility that we couldn’t commit to all the free classes, so we only did one. The facility is very nice. We didn’t really know what to expect when we entered. But for the amount of people in there that day it felt very packed and noisy. Due to us being late my son only had 15 minutes for his lesson. So I learned you MUST be on time in order to get your full 30 minute lesson. Now because of this we realized that this location is too far for us to go for a 30 minute free lesson. It would be easier for us to go to the YMCA. So we didn’t go to the last 3 free lessons and now they are trying to charge us. I was told that I have to cancel 30 days in advanced. I could either send something in writing or come in person. I feel that this isn’t right. They should make it easier to cancel. I should have known that there was going to be an issue because they tried to charge my card prior to the one free lesson my son took.

I have been SO happy with Goldfish Swim School. We've been attending the Hoover location since February of 2021, and my children have progressed so much. Most of the swim instructors I have loved, and the general manager is so nice! We had a time where we came at the wrong time (mom brain moment), and I was so confused why there was no one in my children's lanes, and then when we figured out what happened she was so understanding and she figured out a class for my daughter to join, and then she herself jumped in the water in a lane with my son since there was no age group in the water at that time. My son has been coming to Gold Fish for two months ( twice a week). I have requested many times and even spoke to the director/manager to make sure the teacher does not change every class. To me having the same teacher regularly is very important for kids since they make a good bonding with the teacher. So, kids will show interest and have fun while they are learning. Kids should not feel like the first day every time they come for swimming. I did talk to management , they never respond promptly nor get any email reply from them I would not recommend this place at all.

Started well but the end has been bittersweet. I've loved the classes and how intentional you all are! I've recommended it to so many friends! I do think the 30 day policy of cancelation can be explained better particularly if you start and plan to only do one month. A customer should be able to try it out at least for a week before having to sign to say they plan to cancel. Who knows they may decide to stick around . Our plan was to do 1 month but we didn't find out until half way in that we needed to have done a 30 day cancelation at registration to only do a month so we ended up doing 2. She did enjoy it but this didnt feel conslderate of the customer. Also, we did our 30 day form at the beginning of the 2nd month but had a sudden death in the family and then our entire family got Covid from the funeral. My daughter was out for 3 weeks and missed 4 classes. When I called to see how we could make up the classes since we'd already done the 30 day notice and we were at the end of the month the front desk person I spoke with was not compassionate and gave no opportunity to make up until I kept insisting. She spoke to a manager and they approved an additional week. We booked as many as we could even back to back but it wasnt possible to get all 4 in at less than a week notice. Again the rep was not compassionate and basically told me we'd lose those classes if we couldn't do it in a week. Fortunately, my daughter went today and Katie was very helpful and kind. She approved an extra day and we were able to get all classes is scheduled. I gave a 4/5 because you all do wonderful work with kids but the policy follow through could be improved.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had the best experience. I tried this place because it was convenient to my house. After the first lesson I was concerned that we had signed her up for the wrong level. They said she would need to be evaluated by the instructors and they would let me know when she could move up. After a few more lessons, nothing. They barely get in the pool in the junior 3 level. They literally sit on the side of the pool and pour water on the kids.. If your child has never been in water (and is like scared of the bath) this might be good for you. If you’re looking to advance your child’s ability to swim, gain their confidence and be given a little challenge this is not the place. They finally said we should be in the Gliders 2 class but have nothing available (other than a 7pm class) which isn’t going to work with my 4 year olds schedule.
I have been trying to cancel and it hasn’t been as easy as they said it would be when I signed up.

We have had a wonderful experience here! My son (3 years old) has never been in any activity away from me and I knew his first week would be hard. He cried the entire time the first week and only shed a few tears the second week and is now asking every day to go back as he has a blast! The instructors were so so so kind and fabulous working with him. Huge shout out to Anna for working with him both weeks and getting him comfortable in being away from me. She is truly an angel!
