Someone stole my keys from the indoor walking track. Everyone leaves their things everywhere and it's all in plain sight the whole time. Did not expect someone to do this here!?

The Y itself does a pretty good job. But the Karate program is a whole different story. They do not do a good job in encouraging their participants. I will hope that this behavior does not continue.

I would give my experience a negative star rating if it was possible. Upon arrival I was very excited to try their pool it was a family day out with my two sons (3,4) and my mother. This was also our very first time here, we spent about an hr to hour and a half in the pool and things were SOO nice. Then the life guard Chris (we wasn’t givin his last name) takes post. My and my oldest are swimming in the deep end and I noticed something going on between the lifeguard Chris and my mother after I get over there im immediately met with rudeness. Chris tells us we have to have an arm band for my youngest son but he says it in such an ugly tone. First I didn’t get mad about his tone I simply informed him we do have one for my youngest who is 3 and also has a thing about things being on his wrist at which point my mom shows it to him (she was the one with my son the ENTIRE time). After explaining that he got more ugly and kept saying he needs one at which point I pointed out all the white kids RIGHT NEXT TO HIM they did not have any arm bands on he proceeded to say “well I don’t see it” these kids were jumping in the deep end and unassisted by adults yet my son was simply sitting in the shallow end with my mother the entire time and yet we were the ones he targeted. The ugliness continued as I was now giving push back because I felt racially targeted. Makes me wonder how far it all can go. If a child of color is going under would he even care to act? Or would he “not notice” that either? I spoke too two people of management who were great! The first being Kaitlyn who then passed me higher to a lady named camillia who was very empathetic with my situation. I was shaking and just so disgusted with what I had endured with Chris. We asked what will be done but wasn’t givin much other than we will talk with him. From experience he will get a slap on the wrist because nobody really cares about racism when they can just push it under the rug. I did take video of the conversation with the manager and video of Chris and the children who also did not have on bands and him refusing to say anything to them. The center was beautiful and the rest of the staff seemed helpful it’s just sad when people like him can mess up a whole experience. If you are a family of color or have biracial children I would just be more careful if you see Chris on duty because your child will NOT be his concern

Been coming here for years. The facility is great and there’s so much to do!! but I wish the front desk knew that their job is to not sit there and do nothing. It’s been multiple times I have needed help and they sit up there looking slow. And child care? Those hours? Paying all this money and I can only workout when literally every other parent is in the gym. Don’t like that at all. There’s never any space and equipment is always hogged. You guys can do better.

Great gym, provides fun for kids and adults alike! Love the pool for the summer time with kids. Stays clean and staff is polite! I love the slides for my kids and the shallow end with the different water features. Plus, no contract and military veteran discount friendly!

I have to cancel my membership due to the women's showers being full of mold, the shower curtains and walls having a lot of mold, and the restroom and entire facility grossing me out. It puts me in danger of health issues, and this is a total health department code health hazard. I love YMCA, but this just grosses me out. And I still have to pay for July's membership too, even though the facility is a total health hazard.

Absolutely love this YMCA! The employees there are like family. The summer camp and after school care are top notch. Also the kids gym is awesome. It’s a huge indoor playground. The pool is great and always clean. It has both indoor and outdoor but we prefer the outdoor.

Me and my husband decided to try out the 3 day guest pass and take our kids swimming. The first day we went was great with no issues. However, the last day I decided to take my kids and mother in law swimming and it was going good for the first hour and after that everything went down hill. My child was in the wrong because he was being dramatic screaming for help when none was needed. I couldnt reach him because i was tending to his brother who is much younger than him. My mother in law was close to him so I told her to grab him and make him sit out for 10 min and put his life jacket on before going back in the pool. While making our way out of the pool, one of your lifeguards got very rude and hateful with me after seeing i had already handled the situation. I was not mad that he reassured me that he needed a life jacket on but his tone and demeanor was rude and cocky and it made me feel like he was overstepping and questioning my parenting skills when I was already in the middle of reprimanding my child for his actions. I had just got done telling my mother in law that I would like to get a membership for the summer because it seems like a nice place to take the kids swimming but I WILL NOT be back after that encounter! Other than that, the rest of your staff were very friendly and the environment was clean.

Not a fan of this place. The way the pools are operated is pretty sad. Pools are suppose to be fun for all kids to enjoy and be safe. They have slides that there is no reason kids with swim support devices should not be allowed to. I inquired with one of the life guards and was told the policy changed last year basically due to staffing and kids in support devices slowing up the lines etc. For a YMCA origination that is struggling you’d think they would want a fun and safe atmosphere for all. Not to appease lazy staff

Great dry all-wood sauna, nice gym setup, and considerate, kind childcare workers! My son loves the big kid area. The baby area has tons of natural sunlight and fun climb-one too.

They don’t show movies and let the kids just play which is what I prefer. Rarely is any music is played, so not much to worry about for parents who limit media.

Sometimes cocomelon and baby shark-type videos are streaming on the desk computer of the baby area, but it seems to just be a tool to help upset little ones. Nothing excessive and mostly the babies/toddlers play screen-free too!

(They do allow/encourage you to send water and snacks for your kids. Just has to be peanut-free.)

I 100% recommend this YMCA and am very pleased with who takes care of my children when I come and get some “me time.”

I have had numerous issues with child watch staff failing to handle basic child care needs and overstepping boundaries and disrespecting parental authority. I spoke with management numerous times, yet the issues persisted. Finally, it peaked when lifeguards failed to pay attention to children swimming in the pool. They relied too heavily on the life jacket and when my daughter’s face was going under water, I started screaming and I ended up jumping into the pool with my clothes on screaming to save my daughter because the lifeguards failed to address the urgency of the situation. After the fact, they called CPS and made a false report claiming that I was an abusive mother because I was screaming when my child was near drowning. CPS deemed the report invalid and my home safe and parenting unconcerning. I canceled my membership for their negligence and overstepping, and sent my grandmother to take my children to finish out their swimming lessons that we paid for and they refused to refund us because I did not feel comfortable at the gym after they made a false report to DHR. They again made another false report when my son got sick to his stomach and vomited at the pool claiming physical abuse. He had acquired a black eye during his non custodial father’s visit while playing on a trampoline and rather than ask us where he got it from, they assumed the worst and called DHR. I would steer clear of this gym if your family is less than perfect and your children have normal developmental childhood experiences because they are unable to handle normal developmental milestones and cannot respect parental roles. I would give them 0 starts if I could.

It has become a running joke in our home that when I go to the pool at the YMCA it’ll be closed. I’m standing in the men’s locker room right now getting my clothes on again looking like boo boo the fool. I get that there’s staff shortages and all and the chemicals get messed up and it rains but it’s well over 50% of the time I come these days.

I used to have such awesome experiences here. I couldn’t 1 star it because the facility is clean, the staff is nice, and the workout machines are quality. I just *cannot* with this pool situation anymore.

Was here 6 years ago. So happy to come back.Well worth the money. Not 5 stars because I’m in Hazel Green Al. Would really like if one can be built out this way. I’m between 231/431 and Palaski Pike. Even some place on HWY 53 is closer. There still a lot of land out here. This is better facility then the one downtown Hsv. Really like the hours/days here & amenities. Clean place inside the building the parking lot is clean. The staff has always been helpful and knowledgeable all the times I been. Even when I call them great communication skills. very good job in choosing employees. I’m impressed too with the diversity of staff. That means a lot to me with the ages and the diversity of backgrounds and ages and culture and ethnicities. 👍🏾.

Everyone who works here is pleasant and helpful. The facilities are clean and nicely cared for. Took off a star because the kids pool area is open during typical nap times (1-4) instead of the AM and afternoon times when kids who are the right age to use the kids pool area are awake! Whomever does the scheduling must not have a toddler. Outside of that, when we are able to find the kids splash pad open, which is the reason we joined, my toddler and I have a wonderful time. I would like to find the child care schedule posted somewhere - that would be helpful. Why is the climbing tree never open?

Went to play basketball on March 26. Around 6 pm started playing 5v5. My $80 basketball disappeared during that game and I was unable to find it. Contacted the front desk and left my information. Was told to contact Buster Brasfield. The next day I called and talked to him, sent an email as well. No progress has been made so far. Keep your belongings close when you go to the YMCA.
Update: Buster tried to help, which I appreciate a lot, but still couldn't locate my BB. Updating my rating to 4 stars due to the effort.

I joined the Y to swim in the morning. They schedule a “safety break” from 6:30am to 7am each day during which I can’t use the pool. I’ve never heard of anything more inconvenient. If they need to do maintenance to the pool each day it should be done after hours. Also, put a sign on the pool door for people - don’t just let them get in their pool gear and then spring on them that the pool is closed.

This review is specifically in regards to the summer program. I have absolutely loved having my son enrolled at the Hogan Family YMCA. Josh Campbell has been amazing communicating regarding each week’s expectations. They have each week themed which gives a nice change, yet still on the same schedule & routine that kids need. I wish I knew the names of all the staff because I would give extra thanks to all of them. They’ve been helpful with every request and have stayed up beat during the summer heat and calm during the afternoon storms. My son has come home everyday with a new story to tell or a new friend he has met. I look forward to having all my kids enrolled here in the future!

The people at the front desk working in the morning on wed need to be trained to be nicer. They don’t greet like saying good morning or even Hi? It’s so different atmosphere compared to phaze3. Hope the YMCA manager have an employee meeting to tell all the employees to at least to greet people or feel welcomed. They usually just sit around do computer or stay on the phone… make sure members feel welcome…

basketball is always closed from 5-8pm after most people have work.. no one wants to go up there from 8-9 to hoop. they take up the whole gym, even though theres a curtain and no reason for the whole basketball gym to be unavailable when im paying 50 dollars a month. When we run full court games though, the ymca staff will say everyone pays their money and will close the curtain to make us play side goals. even though they are doing the same thing by taking the whole gym for hours. seems very hypocritical and unprofessional. unfortunate that i have no other basketball court options available.

I have almost always been a member of a Y. The Hogan Family Y has declined in quality. The pandemic has affected everyone but, even prior to COVID, the Hogan Y was struggling.

The facility is not clean especially the locker rooms. There is often no toilet paper, paper towels, or soap. The floors have not been swept with debris lying around. There are so many band-aids, googles, and bits of grass in the indoor pool it may be better to be in the Tennessee river where at least one cannot see those things.

There are some very excellent group exercise instructors, but since the pandemic many classes have not resumed.

The app is very basic. It is not intuitive nor easy to navigate. The information on the app is frequently wrong. You show up and the pool is closed, childcare is not available, or the class is not going.

If you do bring a concern to the attention of the staff (either through a written comment card or direct report to an employee) do not expect a response. You might be told we will look into that, but you never hear back.

The Hogan Y has been going down hill for some time. I normally tell people the Y is where I workout and encourage folks to join. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and will be canceling my membership soon.

My family is truly grateful for our Hogan Family YMCA village. We initially moved here, and had no family or friends. As a single parent, your support system is EVERYTHING. They pick my son up from school, help with his homework, cultivate his relationship with Jesus, and help to instill life principles. None of that has changed during this crisis- except him being picked up from school, of course. When our governor issued a “State of Emergency”, As an essential worker, I was concerned about still being able to work, my son being cared for throughout the day, completing e-learning assignments, required meetings with teachers, etc. Ty, Molly, Hillary, Colby, and Mr Daniel, assured me that everything would be ok. I didn’t know that Hogan would keep its doors open to assist Essential Workers. My son is super excited to go to the Y everyday. As a parent, that brings peace to my heart. I know he is in a caring and safe environment. He hasn’t quite made peace with not being able to go to the Y on the weekends, but we will get there. I am so thankful to the Directors at Hogan for their compassion for our family. They have been angels for us during this crisis. A wise person once said “It takes a village to raise a child”. I am forever grateful for our village. I’m sure crowns await them in heaven. If you or someone you know is looking for childcare, I would highly recommend them.

The YMCA has a great variety of activities that cater to all ages. The staff is very polite and helpful, and the gym is very big. However, the cardio machines do not have a good ratio. There are about 15 or so treadmills and only two front drive ellipticals. A better variety in cardio machines, specifically ellipticals, would definitely make the gym experience more enjoyable.

This YMCA is pretty great. Lots of facilities and classes to choose from. I primarily use it to do lifting. There is a pretty big weight room with lots of light and machines to choose from. In my experience, this room is rather crowded most of the time but most people are courteous enough. The locker rooms are a bit dated. The showers could be cleaner, but honestly, the locker rooms need some renovation.

Overall, a great place to work out, try some classes or swim in the pool. Locker rooms are less than desirable and it is usually pretty crowded when I go.

We have a YMCA pass from Cleveland, so we used their facilities while we were in town for space camp, and hands down this is one of the nicest YMCA's I've ever been to. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the outdoor pool was so relaxing and clean. Their child watch has an indoor playground, that is almost better than one you would pay to go to! They have a climbing tree, and an elevated walking path. I saw a cafe, other rooms, and different things going on, but I didn't really explore that, but it looked amazing. Good but has some unnecessary flaws. I don't think anyone should expect a spotless locker room but a monthly pressure wash would rid them of the soap scum. That is a little nasty and paper towels is not going to mitigate that.

The weight room seems needs weight clamps and fitness bands. I'm honestly almost at the point of just donating some because something so cheap should not be in short supply.

And may I suggest adding bathrooms when the chamber moves? Not being lazy but the walk from the weight room to the bathrooms is a little far....That kills a workout because it takes like 6-10 minutes to walk over there and use the bathrooms.

Bought a membership for my husband and I a few days before the beginning of the month, mainly for him to work out and for me to have a place indoors to walk our newborn during the cold months. When I signed up, I didn’t have time to do a tour and wanted my husband with me in case he had questions, so they said we could sign up now and tour later. When we took the tour we found out there’s no jogging strollers allowed on the indoor walking track which basically negated the reason we got a membership. So we decided to cancel our membership 4 days after signing up, without getting to use the facilities once. When we told them we needed to cancel, a woman at the front desk gave my husband attitude and said they were still going to charge for the full month that literally started two days ago. We won’t be back and won’t be suggesting this Y to anyone in the area.

Once you go there a few times it starts to get boring because nothing ever changes.

The YMCA offers a variety of great classes & spacious work out area. Protein shakes are good as well!

This is a great gym for the price. It has all that our family needs! We have childcare (that used to be pretty lazy, but has been much improved with the new manager) that is split up into babies/toddlers and a climbing gym for older children. The childcare supervisors are involved with the kids are no longer staring at their phones. The childwatch is open all day, no break for lunch like the other two Valley YMCA's, which is wonderful for lunchtime mama's!
The fitness room is pretty good. It has a huge range of standard gym equipment, and has 2 stairclimbers, 2 cycling 'game'-style bikes, a Hexor machine, 2 rowing maching and a jacobs ladder. The aerobic classes are great and a huge variety, and I have yet to see a less-than-stellar teacher. The pool is great for families or those just trying to get in some laps. Most people are happy to share lanes for laps at busy hours, and us families are respectful of those whom are exercising and don't want the children in their lanes.
I do love this gym and will use it for many many years.

Enjoy group exercise but I cringe every time I leave my baby in child watch. The most unfriendly staff of people watching others peoples children in the infant room. They literally stare at you walking up without a trace of a smile. I seriously wonder why some of them work there if they are not going to speak to parents. I go out of my way to speak to them because I am leaving my child there for over an hour and I honestly feel uncomfortable leaving my baby with such melancholy looking people. Either they need to perk up or work in a different area of the gym because child watch might not be the place for them. That area really needs people who can at least pretend they like children and know how to treat parents when they walk up.

We let our membership expire. The staff seemed too young and just weren't ready for their jobs. Or they just didn't care. (teenager eyerolls come free!) The splash pool would be "broken" about 60% of the time. Or when someone needed to go on break. Childcare was haphazard, although the camps were good.

The sports director Ray is an asset to the YMCA he really cares about the program and the kids. I do miss the school supplies for military families Operation Home front used to have an event at the Y and this is good for the community. I love the fact that the directors truly care about the members and any issues you may have. My family truly enjoys the YMCA!

Beautiful facility, but for someplace new it needs to be better. The cost of a membership is beyond outrageous even for a middle class family in Madison. The irony is that a lot of the clientele are pretty scary. FYI search news articles on this place. The workout room smells like BO. The lady running the show is informative but insanely officious. The pool at Dublin park is way cheaper so other than racquetball I don't see the point of joining this place.

The facilities are nice but they should clean more. Could be a little more organized/accessible e clean. The carpet is terrible, smells terrible. They close for weather condition and do not update online informations.

Since joining, i've enjoyed my membership. Although i can't comment on various classes they offer, my primary focus is on weight training. With that said, they do offer plenty of classes and my wife has tried several and reports enjoying them greatly. They have a nice weight room that is clean. A broad range of equipment to choose from and plenty of cardio machines. Although these are all positives, many times people won't rack their weights or will 'hog' equipment for extended periods of time. I believe that the Y-center could do a better job of requiring members to at least take care of what they use better. Also, and this is not a complaint against the gym but something they will need to address, individual members using cell phones while others are working out. It's honestly ridiculous.

Upscale ymca from what I am used to seeing in the 90's. Comparable to Xsport fitness.
