I am so grateful for the Hoover YMCA! It's a great facility with an expert, courteous staff. I've been to other YMCAs across the country, and few have all the resources that the Hoover Y has: Egym, YGT, yoga, Zumba, strength classes, water classes and outreach to the community. The inside and outside of the building has gotten some TLC lately which really puts this facility over the top!

We have been seeing Dr Edwards for several months.my husband had back pain for most of his life.He is now without any back pain. Our quality of life has improved significantly.my husband and I are so thankful for the excellent care we have received. The Dr. is very serious and professional,He and his staff are the best. I started as a member of YMCA Hoover for almost a year before joining the Child Watch team. Getting to know the behind-the-scenes operations was a great experience. Alexa and Joy do an amazing job as leaders, ensuring proper orientation, child safety, and protection. Most of the toys are cleaned with soap and water after each shift, maintaining a safe environment for the kids.

I deeply appreciate Alexa for her love, redirection, support, acknowledgment, and the responsibility she brings to her job. She always encourages us to give our best. My son also attends Child Watch while I work out, and I have complete peace of mind knowing he is in good hands with the dedicated team.

I truly hope the community recognizes and values the hard work put into caring for these children. Thank you to the incredible people who make this a great place! Aquatics team are amazing, front desk is always welcoming people, classes always offer their best professionals. Great place to bring your family. I do recommend it.

Equipment is in great condition.

Steam room is huge… male/female
Women dressing room is huge. Lots of lockers and showers. Always clean.

My only concern so far is the parking.
They do not monitor who parks in handicap parking. I even noticed members of their staff parking in disabled parking spots with no placard or handicap plates. I think they should do a better job at monitoring this because there are lots of disabled members who attend The Y and they are forced to walk from the back of the parking lot .

A newer built YMCA and it shows, the facilities are all really nice, they get in new equipment fairly frequently, have tons of workout classes, great instructor (Coco, I love you) and the pool even gets a bubble in the winter so you can swim or do water aerobics all year round! I also really enjoy the hot tub and sauna rooms available for use, such a luxury to have at a YMCA!

Update: I recently rejoined because my children joined the swim team. The carpet in the bathroom has been removed and replaced with tile, new equipment (e-gym I believe) has been purchased that really incredible, the hot tub is functioning correctly, and the staff is very pleasant. There are some things left that aren’t perfect, however there must be new management because this place has made a complete turnaround to 2 years ago.

I put in my notice to leave today. It isn’t the high end experience that it was previously. The steam room is always dirty, the bathroom carpet stinks, showers are gross, half of the jets in the hot tub are broken, the soap in the showers is terrible, they close the cross train room most of the day and on and on…If you want to do zoomba with 6 inches of space between you and the next person this is the place otherwise, there are better options!

So this place is more like a planet fitness than a YMCA. Hot tub, steam room, sauna all coed. Loved driving home in soaking wet gym shorts bc I didn't have a bathing suit for the steam room. Also everything is in one big room since it's an old grocery store. I will say the staff was super nice and genuinely seemed disappointed I wouldn't be coming back. I'll stick with Bessemer, shades valley, mountain Brook. Pretty much any of em but this one

We’re do I start honesty, this Ymca is beyond disgusting starting with the mildew in the steam room and blogs of dirt and hair in the jacuzzi. People will get sick and if you don’t want to get sick, DO NOT COME! Secondly the front guest workers are very rude … I had a bad experience with one particular young guy (Granger)and I reported him to the director (Tim) and he rubbed it off like it was nothing. The least you could have did was apologize for your employee behavior, but I guess not. I have real life concerns as a member of this YMCA . Who do I need to talk to so that my concerns will be addressed?

I am disgusted! This is the second time the front desk clerk Granger was rude and disrespectful towards me. The price that I pay for a monthly membership is mot equivalent to the treatment that I’ve received lately. He is never nice nor does he greet the guest. I recommend going to your community recreational center or any other YMCA.

I had a membership at the Y for about 6 months, and during that time I greatly enjoyed the facility. I could see the great work that the Y does for the community through sponsoring events, providing child care, and promoting an accepting health-focused atmosphere. I ended my membership at the Y due to the recent price increase as it became $71 a month for my single membership. I know the Y offers scholarships, but I wish they would consider more accessible rates for single individuals as the membership rate for two adults is discounted at $98 ($49 per person). I highly recommend the Y if you can afford the premium and utilize all the amenities.

I was told about the scholarship opportunity for the after school program. I applied months ago and have yet to hear from the coordinator, even after numerous emails. I am now currently waiting on a response to my question about the summer scholarship, in hopes that the earlier I apply, the better chance I have at even being considered. She made me feel like I was put in the back of the line due my needing financial help.
UPDATE: After finally hearing from a new coordinator, I was told to to fill out the scholarship application and wait for an acceptance/denial the beginning of April. That is exactly what I did, and after being accepted (which I truly am grateful for), all of the childcare spots are now wait-listed! How is a company going to ask someone to sit back and wait for a response from them for months, only to find out that I can not even utilize the scholarship that I was offered. Now I have to find a last minute summer care program because of their lack of consideration. I understand that I need financial assistance- but I have had it with this company putting me on their list of "Get to when we have a chance" because of it!

I have been a member of at least 4 different gyms within the last 10 years, and this one is the best! The facility is always clean, the staff is nice, and they have a lot of new equipment. The trainers and staff are very friendly and helpful, so if you have questions or need any help, they will kindly help you. The price for the membership is reasonable and well worth it in comparison to other gyms. They provide clean towels, plenty of filtered water to refill your bottle, and great childcare. I love the Hoover Y!

The staff was extremely nice until today I met the director at the counter. She was extremely rude and unprofessional! She told me my name or my husbands name was not in there system we are new members here this was in fact my 5th time coming to the gym. I explained that we were new my husband is active duty for the military and before now we haven't had any problems. She acted as if I wanted something for free or wanted something specifically from her! I have never dealt with anyone so unprofessional in my life so I asked for her boss number she refused but gave me a number to someone she's in good contact with because their attitudes were the exact same way. She wouldn't give me the correct phone number to speak to someone for their behavior in fact Leigh Allen gave me a disconnected phone number. So I had to basically call around to different YMCA's to get the correct number to speak with the proper authority. I'm currently waiting for a call back! Again Hoover's director and her little side kick Leigh are extremely unprofessional and need to take a customer service class!

I love this location. We have a city-wide membership, and this location is our favourite.
I do wish they had more fitness options for kids. My daughter loves the Sarasota YMCA because they had a room with equipment and instruction just for kids. It was great. She can't even work out under my supervision at Hoover.

This YMCA has really let me down; I'm no longer a member here. My husband is active duty military and frequently deploys. Because of this, I had a single membership. When he was home one weekend, they would not allow him to workout or be my "guest" because it was the weekend. We were upset, but then we went about our day.

The next weekend, he was overseas again and I went for my usual workout. I witnessed the front desk woman allow several members each bring a "guest" and it was also a weekend. She even said she wasn't supposed to let them in, but did anyway. I brought it to a staff member's attention and nothing was ever done. In addition to many other disappointments, I eventually canceled my membership.
