Friendly trainers and actual tailored workouts no cookie‑cutter plans here. Good vibes, but not exactly a budget gym.

I recently started training at Personal Edge Fitness in Mobile, and it’s been an amazing experience! Gary Zakutney and the team are incredibly knowledgeable—every trainer has a degree in exercise science or a related field, which really shows in their approach. Gary took the time to assess my fitness goals and created a customized plan that fits my busy schedule and beginner fitness level. The facility at 513 W I-65 Service Rd N is clean, welcoming, and well-equipped for any workout. Gary and the staff are professional yet approachable, making every session motivating and fun. Their Catalyst Weight Loss program was a game-changer for me. Highly recommend Personal Edge to anyone in Mobile looking to improve their health with tailored guidance!

I started working out at Personal Edge Fitness about two months ago, and I can’t believe how quickly I have seen improvements in my muscle tone and endurance. I feel stronger in doing day to day chores around the house and yard. My arms have more definition than they’ve had in years, and my back pain is totally gone since I’ve been working out. The trainers are awesome and really care about every client that they work with. It’s such a welcoming and friendly environment and the clientele is also extremely friendly. I look forward to going to work out there every day.

I had planned to sign up for personal training 3x per week, but I quit after two sessions. The trainers I worked with were very nice and competent, but the club was filthy. In this post-Covid world, this was a deal breaker for me. I started warming up on a treadmill and noticed sweat stains all over the screen. When I finished, after searching for them, I found cleaning spray and towels. I cleaned the machine and the towel was disgusting. It was filthy! I noticed there were no signs instructing members to clean equipment when they were finished and there was only one spray bottle for the entire room, hidden behind a pillar.
Then, I started working with the trainer and she even noticed a puddle of sweat on the floor that no one bothered to clean. I told her how grossed out I was by those things so she offered to clean each piece of equipment before I used it. By the end of my session, her cleaning towel was black. Everything I touched had been filthy before she cleaned it.
I loved the fact that they had private "cabana style" locker rooms and I didn't have to shower in a public locker room, but they too were outdated and dirty with trash overflowing, dust balls on the floor, and cheap Dollar Store quality body wash (empty) and no shampoo or conditioner. One of the trainers graciously let me use her shampoo and conditioner the first day, but the fact that there were no sealed dispensers for these things (a simple addition) and there were just empty bottles of cheap product in the showers spoke volumes about Management's concern about the customer experience.
The outdoor workout area could have been great, but it was covered in dirt and leaves and not at all a place I would want to workout. The glass on the doors and windows is dirty, the door to outside has kickmarks on it and is in need of paint, the weight benches appear to be from the 90's, the bands (which you have to put your hands on) are covered in black dirt, etc., etc.
How hard is it to run a leaf blower for a few minutes and wipe down the equipment? And, the first cabana locker room I used had beadboard hap-hazardly wrapped around the sink. How much does a single vanity at Home Depot cost? Seriously? How much does it cost to add a sign to the door of the cabana rooms that you can flip to occupied so people don't knock on the door when you are using it? These things matter to people who have belonged to other facilities that make them a priority.
Instead of standing around chit chatting with each other, the staff should have been always cleaning something when they weren't busy.
Garrett, the owner, gave me a long sales pitch when I joined about what a great, award winning facility he had. He went on and on about awards he had won and was extremely full of himself. I emailed him when I quit to explain why, and he responded saying that he was very sorry and concerned about my experience and wanted to speak to me by phone. I was optimistic that he was truly interested in what I had to say. But, when he called me, all he did was give me another sales pitch and tell me that no one had ever complained about cleanliness before... not possible in my mind. He did give me my two sessions for free (a positive) and asked me to consider them in the future. But, he did not indentify any changes he would make. This told me, very clearly, that he had no intention of fixing the problem.
Cleanliness is a very easy thing to rectify and should be a bare minimum that a facility that involves a lot of germs and bodily fluids (particularly post-Covid) be cleaned on a regular, if not constant, basis. It's too bad that they don't care enough to meet minimum standards of cleanliness. I would have liked to continue because everything else was great. I loved the fact that the club is dog friendly and the trainers I worked with were qualified and personable. The problem is Management. They need to drop the ego and the sales pitch and clean up their facility. If they did that, I would start believing the sales pitch.

I've been a client of PE for the past three years. I started a pre-hab program prior to my initial total knee replacement surgery. Lindsey and Josh created a program that prepared me so well for my procedure that I was driving after two weeks. I had the same result training with Lindsey and Charlie for my second right knee surgery, with the same result.
I've continued with Gary and Charlie, and my mobility and rehabilitation has been remarkable. I can't say enough good things about the entire staff. They're caring, challenging and generate results. Personal Edge is the absolute best!

I have used Personal Edge personal training services for almost 16 years, usually 3 days a week but at times 5 days a week. And now 24/7 access to the facility for personal use is icing on the cake. Over these years, I have had about 10 different trainers and every one has been top notch: knowledgeable, qualified, personable and friendly. No gymtimidation at Personal Edge. They serve young and old clients alike..something for everyone. I am trusting PE to keep me fit and as young as I possibly can be for the rest of my days.

PE is the best gym I’ve ever used. Worked with numerous trainers and I have never had a session I didn’t enjoy. My son and I go in at 5:00 AM. Not many gyms are going to have a trainer there that early and that prepared.

I’ve been recovering from a car wreck injury for the last couple of years and was nervous about starting back up at a gym. Personal Edge was the perfect environment for me to safely start getting back to being active.

I found myself in the rut of middle age, not focusing on my health and fitness level as I should. Personal Edge Fitness was there for me. I was not proud of the shape I was in and in fact, very uncomfortable with my body. The path back to a healthy, physically fit, body was offered to me without judgment and with plenty of excitement for the new direction for my life. The encouragement I receive is heartfelt and I feel that the PE professionals are just as excited about the changes as I am. They are there to truly help you find success on your journey to new health and fitness goals. They have broken down the overwhelming amount of information that is available into consumable bites that make sense and are easy to follow. They make good health a way of life rather than something I have to do to keep the scale on the right number. The added bonus, they make it fun.

PE Fitness is awesome! I had been having shoulder pain for 6 months due to the incorrect way I was lifting. Garrett worked with me and within a couple of weeks I was pain free. That was months ago and still no inflammation. Thanks Garrett!
