This place is absolutely disgusting

The men's urinal hasn't been cleaned in weeks. it's called dried up urine all over and heaven knows what else.

The handicap stall has been broken for 6 months. Not sure why they haven't fixed it. This has to go against some disabilities code.

Only 2 sinks of the 5 work. And the ones that don't have dried up soap and hair all over them.

And this is just the issue with the bathroom. This place used to use paper towels and cleaning spray. I recommended they switch to washable cloths to be more eco friendly, instead they switched to disinfecting wipes which are largely made of non-recyclable plastic.

They hardly ever fix their equipment. The benches have broken supports, the assisted pullup machine needs new wraps, the grip on the calf machine is worn down, several treadmills have been out of order for months.

I will be cancelling my membership and looking for a new gym. I've excused a lot of things from this company ever since they've gotten new owners, but all this plus charging $80/month, you would expect to at least get a clean toilet out of the place.

I signed up online and went in for my first visit and man this gym is dirty. They need to hire a full time cleaning crew and if they have one already its time to find a new one. Body Renew near Diamond, in Anchorage is very clean. There are wt. machines with multiple units. Therefore if the one you are wanting to operate is in use, most likely there is another one available. There is quite a bit of equipment ; free weights and kettle bells, etc. Zumba classes are offered. The locker rooms are kept very clean. There is a sauna and tanning room. Best of all is the staff, from the front desk and throughout the facility. They are all wonderful; professional, polite, kind, friendly and extremely helpful! I have interacted with several of the trainers on a regular basis and I cannot begin to say enough good things about them. They are knowledgeable. They know what they are doing and provide great guidance and training geared to your need. Join, join, join. Specials are offered often. I really enjoy going to Body Renew!

I came in for a work out and Chris was absolutely polite, the front desk was very welcoming also. His energy was just great and made me want to start working out right away! Chris gave us a wonderful tour and let us know about each plan, he was also very understanding because we were not sure what plan we wanted to go with but he gave us a set time and let us know they would be able to work with our availability which was great for us.

I’ve been at Body Renew a little over a year now. BR is different in that you feel recognized and valued. All the staff is so accommodating and friendly! The community within the gym is wonderful. I have developed several friendly connections which again enrich the experience, making it fun to celebrate fitness wins. BR has everything you would need to meet your fitness goals without an inflated price. The establishment is recently under new management. You can tell they are very driven to improving the experience and I look forward to watching what they create. This gym is conveniently close to me & I love that u can get a membership that allows 24 hr access. New staff is nice & welcoming. I appreciated when i mentioned the gym needed new mats to my trainer, the same week we got new mats...maybe a coincidence, but way over due from previous management. I also love how there are not many people, so it almost feels like you have the whole gym to yourself. I do feel the gym can improve on floor cleaning. I find clumps of dust bunnies from time to time and when stretching next to a treadmill, I find dirt on the floor from the treadmill belt. Per an environmental stand point, i don't like all the paper towels they have for wiping down machines. I wish they used washable rags, which wld prob b cheaper for them in the long run. Even though i have the most expensive membership, I do like the perk of bringing a friend for free. My husband came with me to the gym last week. Oh & another area of improvement is offering exercise classes, not just zumba for the price I pay.

Fantastic place. They truly care about their members and in providing the best experience that they can. The gym is clean and has a layout that makes sense. They have a lot of equipment for both cardio and weights, so you aren't stuck waiting for someone to finish a set to do yours. There is a ton of space both upstairs and downstairs. They also have saunas and tanning, which is such a great addition that comes with your monthly membership, especially for those winter months in Alaska. The manager, Cristian, is very personable, knowledgeable, and you can tell he loves his job and loves trying to create a great workout experience for all. 10/10 recommend!

We just started at Body Renew, and it’s been a pretty great experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, and our trainer is patient and knowledgeable. We don’t feel like they got our money and then dumped us, as is often the case at some gyms. Purchased a membership because I thought it would be open access 24/7 as I usually go to the gym around 10pm. went to use the gym on southside only for the card reader app to not scan and had no access to get in. Worked fine at the Muldoon location. Went back the next day at 8:15pm (as Google says they are open until 9pm) to see how I could get access only for the doors to be closed and no staff working yet again. Overall the facilities look nice and the Muldoon location is a great small gym but it would be nice if I could actually use my full membership.

Edit: thanks BR for the fast response and getting me on board. I wish the process was a little more clear from the get go but maybe I missed something. Either way, I appreciate the fast response. Facilities are great and I am glad I made the switch over to BR

Happy Thursday!! It’s my Friday!! Yay!! I just wanted to give you an awesome praise report from yesterday!! Man, I could probably write a whole page but I won’t do that to ya! LOL! 😊 I can’t tell you how happy I am that I made the decision to go with Body Renew. You all are the whole package and some!! Victor, my experience with you was OUTSTANDING!!!

I was the big advocate of doing everything on my own when it came to my health goals and exercising, I’m very independent and I just didn’t think I really needed a coach and you want to know the best part? I did not feel pressured whatsoever; to add an extra amount to my non-contractual membership for coaching, I was sold with it just by how Victor showed he truly and genuinely cared about my health goals and my needs! Now, I have been around the block a few times with gyms and their employees, and I can figure out pretty quickly when all they care about is the all-mighty dollar! Body Renew and their peeps are not even close to that culture!! The way Victor explained everything and what his goals are for me, and we covered a lot, just made sense, and even as he showed me how to use the machines and my form, all of that is going to stick with me, why? Because, it all made sense, that young man carries a lot of knowledge, and I am very impressed by him. So impressed that I truly want him as my coach!!

Lastly, I woke up this morning with an extra smile and more energy knowing that I have a lot to look forward to with Body Renew! Yesterday was another life-changing moment for me and it just means the world! Thank you both for being the Ultimate Rock Stars!! LETS GOOOOOOO! 😊

I've been going to this gym for about 3 years now. It's been great for the most part - however I've noticed increasingly common issues that never seem to get fixed. I see in the review responses that the place is under new management who are "working to better things", but so far i've only seen things get worse

PROS:
the community is amazing. Everyone I meet is very helpful. The staff always greets me when i enter and when i leave. One of the trainers there offered to let me borrow their equipment when they had something that I didn't. The other gym goers are always happy to give a quick spot or chat for a bit about particular workouts. The building also looks great too. The lighting is too bright or too dark. It's just a place that I feel very comfortable in

CONS:
The place seems to be in a state of constant disrepair. For months now i've gone in to see the same broken treadmills, the same broken sinks, the same broken lockers, etc... Most of the time only 1 sink is working, and the handicap stall in the men's bathroom has been shu, locked, and filled to the brim with matter for the last month. The preacher curl setup had an issue where the bolt wouldn't really stay in place, and their response was to remove it completely rather than put in some effort to fix it. I don't understand how this gym can be charging people upwards of $80/month and not have the capital to take care of their own facilities. The only reason why i keep going is because I got set up with a really good deal so my membership is cheaper than most places in town.

Also, in the last 3 years, I've seen this place discontinue the free guest pass, daycare room, and massage services. During this time I've also seen the prices increase from $35/month to now $50/month for the basic package. Where is this money going other than lining the pockets of the owners?? You could have so many more members if you just took take of them

Things I would change:

Wi-Fi: This place is piratically a Faraday cage where cell signal does not work that well and the Wi-Fi is often times spotty at best. It's pretty cheap to put in a few hotspots to spread the coverage.

Cleaning supplies:
It is incredibly wasteful to allow people free reign over the paper towels. Plus there are only 3 spray bottles that are being shared by everyone. Other gyms I've seen had a table filled with enough spray bottles and reusable towels for everyone to carry around while they do their workouts. It's much less wasteful and ensures that no one has to sit down on sweaty machinery because there's no cleaning supplies in sight on the weekend

Music:
Music isn't bad, but i've been hearing the same thing for 3 years now on repeat. for the love of everything good and holy, please change the station

Vending Machine:
we're in the gym. Why are we selling chips? It would be great to have an option for protein drinks in there that I can just conveniently purchase when I'm done with my workout. Why has nobody put these in yet? So many people would buy protein drinks

In conclusion, I will still go to this gym, but I don't think I can actually recommend it to anyone until the place actually shows some improvement. I've been tempted to just switch to Alaska Club because, even though they are incredibly expensive, every time I go there everything is in proper working order.

I was a member with this gym for nearly
8 years. During that time I’ve seen it shrink. Great workout spaces have been closed off and leased out. I had enough and wanted to try another gym. I went to cancel my membership before the billing went through next. They informed me I had to do it in person and it was their policy. I went there and they said I had to do it a month prior to new billing. I asked to see my contract where it exactly said that. I was shown a contract that didn’t have my signature or a date. I said that it didn’t apply to me since it wasn’t my original contract. The manager threatened to take me to collections and also proceeded to use profanity. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Happened beginning of 2024.

I really enjoy this gym. The new management that has taken over appears to really be turning things around from the issues of the past. I’ve been going to body renew for about 5 years now.
Pros: they have great gym equipment. They are open during hours that work for me. Members and trainers are pretty friendly.
Cons: I’m growing increasingly frustrated with the same issues. I can only be so understanding of the circumstances. These are ongoing issues that are not being resolved.

The gym is dirty. For example, trash cans are always full. It’s dusty and there’s hair and toilet paper on the floor. The sinks are rusted and only 2-3 of the 5 sinks work in the women’s locker room.

There’s no hot water and a less than motivating sign about “cold water promoting circulation” was posted instead. I think members would much rather an ETA for when this issues be fixed. There’s always a shower running water and pooling large puddles on the floor.

The staff at the front desk are unprofessional. They either seat at the desk with their cellphone in their face and knees to their chest or they are no where to be found (or when you do find them, they are off chatting with their boyfriend/crush, following them around). The BR ride classes just disappeared. So there’s two rooms (daycare room) just sitting, not being utilized, but trainers have to conduct their group classes where everyone else is working out? I don’t think that’s fair to the members or the trainers.

The quality of this gym is going down hill and I’m at the point where I’m deciding whether to go somewhere else for my workouts. I mean, seriously. I could pay less and get more by going to planet fitness.

They used to be better. There’s a real lack of care, professionalism, and quality. It’s so sad.

Equipment is good. Unfortunately just found out they have been charging me for the last two months even though I haven't been since finding a gym closer to my house. Currently disputing those transactions with my bank and will be paying body renew a visit to see if I can recoup my money. It's a shame b/c other than the shady business practices it's a good gym.

Edit: they have continued charging me. This time at a rate of ~1 month every two weeks. I'll be changing cards with my bank, continuing to dispute their transactions & may very possibly be in contact with legal council in order to try and recoup my lost money.

It is impossible to cancel membership!! Was told to fill out a form for the cancellation process. Did that months ago but they continued to charge us each month. They recently just charged me $69 for the month of August so I called about this and was told our cancellation form was never processed! We were told to come in and fill out another form. It’s unuclear whether or not they will give us a refund, at least for the month of August.

Great gym in terms of equipment, however, the staff, particularly the younger receptionist girls who I will not name, we’re not impressive to say the least. I’ve overheard numerous malicious comments about me via other friends who go there criticizing my clothing and other things (Some of which I’ve never spoken a word to) and I also felt like I was on my own to figure out how to freeze my membership and get that sorted. 3 months into my membership it started to feel like a hostile place. Great gym, not-so-great experience with a few staff and receptionist.

South Anchorage Body Renew front desk employee Jozzlynn doesn’t know how to do her job right. We tried to cancel our membership but she tells us go all the way to Muldoon location just for them to tell us the same thing. We had to drive back to the south location just for her to say they had no receptionist but somehow proceeded to cancel our membership anyway, when she could’ve done it in the first place. Body Renew suck they lack on information about their memberships and guests policies. What’s worse different locations has different policies and regulations. Muldoon said we can get a refund 3 days after purchasing the membership, however the lady at South said we can not get a refund at all and it only has been 2 days, which one’s true? Management get everything straight, poor communication and a lot of misunderstandings. Hopefully we get a refund. People search on good and affordable gym membership BR is not for you. Waste of time and money.

Paid just under $80 up front for the first month and was told I wouldn't be charged again until the end of the month. After the first month you're then charged $37 every two weeks, it's only been 3 weeks and I already got another charge on my card... it was for $57. Really frustrating to see this especially because the bikes weren't working for the first two weeks of my membership (and that's the only thing I was planning on using here).

This place is owned by a money-grubbing dirt bag. AVOID GETTING A MEMBERSHIP AT ALL COSTS!! I think I'll have to cancel my membership now, and from the what previous reviewers have said about predatory cancellation fees, I have a feeling there will be problems when I go to do that. Wish I had looked into this place before forking over any cash.

An absolutely terrible gym that will continue to charge your account even after canceling your membership. Their services are inconsistent, their place is not welcoming, and the place is not clean. Their staff are not helpful at all and all they care about is getting your money. I’d recommend going to any other gym in town than this one.

Cleaniness is good. Right now I don't see any broken down equipment. I normally go in the evenings so I don't see a lot of the staff. Some of the stuff in the locker room gets left behind and left for days. This should be put in a lost and found or tossed.

Why y'all gotta be so secretive? All I called for was training rates and membership option information and was basically refused anything until I came in in person to visit. I guess I'll go spend a lot more around the corner at the Alaska Club because your customer service is terrible and people you have answering the phone are like shady used car salesman.

I’ve been waiting until I’ve been at the gym for at least 3 months. Probably the cleanest gym I’ve been to in Anchorage, and I love that even when it’s packed there’s still other equipment to use to get a good workout in. I like that Body Renew is open until 10pm so it helps with my busy schedule! And honestly, if you haven’t tried Michelle’s cycling class you are missing out!! Her classes push you & keep you coming back. Especially with her fire playlists! I can’t wait to try some other group classes that Body Renew offers. I saw other reviews about the billing aspect of Body Renew and honestly have had no issues or concerns about it.

I think the owners could do a better job with updating the treadmills and the downstairs weight equipment. Additional group classes each day would be great. They used to offer them daily but then removed them. It appears the gym is more interested in its members putting more money into purchasing individual trainings versus group trainings.

I enjoy body renew, I especially enjoy the Eastside location. I can go in there and get a great workout in. It's rarely busy and let's me get to work. The Southside is great for its classes. Depending on what I'm looking for in a workout I know I can find it at Body Renew

I was signed up... Called to end my membership. Was told I had to go to the gym and sign something.

I went to the gym and signed the paperwork.
And here I am today STILL being charged for an account I haven’t used in over 6 months. I called and asked if I could talk to somebody who could help me handle my account, but I was directed to a company handling all their “member financials”. This company didn’t help me and didn’t even seem legitimate. Also this company isn’t even resided in Alaska.. This company hasn’t contacted me about my account which is either 6 months or more overdue... I don’t know who to legitimately talk to about paying my account, and why.

Today I went in to use a guest pass my friend has and I was denied accessibility, due to my account. So if I can’t workout with the account. Why would it stop me from entering as a guest.

Overall. Their Way Of Handling Business Is Systematically a HUGE issue.

Would not recommend signing up.. unless you like your money touched without your permission.

Gym is fine. Predatory Cancellation policies are not.

They refuse to cancel your membership over the phone (if you can get them on the phone). They REQUIRE you to sign a document to cancel your membership. Already moved out of state? No luck, you have to go in person and sign to cancel your membership.

Once you do sign, their contract says they can bill you for another month after you have signed the cancellation document. My credit card expired the month I cancelled and they called threatening to send the bill to collections if I did not pay for the extra month of service they were FORCING me to pay AFTER I had cancelled my membership.

They will milk you for every penny they can.

There facility is extremely clean. The staff there are very helpful and are ready to help. They have a nice variety of equipment. And when I wasn’t coming for a little bit they sent me a text offering me a free session to help me get back on track with working out. I enjoy working out. And the staff are all amazing. I’ve been with Body Renew since 2015 and I absolutely love them. Even when I moved it was super easy to transfer my membership to my new home location. I unfortunately fell on hard times and needed a break and recently decided to cancel my membership. Body Renew was amazing to work with. They tired everything to make sure I was okay and tried to get me to keep my membership but in such a good way and not harassing like some places. When I get myself better situated I will definitely return to them. The only thing I wish they would do is bring back their 24hr hours. It was really nice to go around 1am and enjoy the complete quietness and workout in peace. But other than that I would highly recommend Body Renew!

Good facilities, clean, organized, nice variety of equipment. The classes and instructors are very good, friendly and present a challenging and interesting variety of exercises with different goals. You can just be starting out or a 5 day a week workout drone and still get something out of the sessions.

2/20/21 Saturday Morning. Myself and a lot of other people have pulled up to use the gym at said open time 7:00am. There appears to be NO STAFF members here causing a despicably long wait. Time passed and it’s now passed 8:00am, but still nothing. This is unprofessional.

Mirroring what many others have said, the gym itself is fine, but any kind of mishaps with billing, contracts, customer service and you’re in for a wild and unpleasant ride.

My account was not supposed to be active but Body renew was still charging. They got me for $470!!! When I called, it was taken to some sort of meeting for a determination, where they agreed to refund me a few months and an annual fee— a total of around $143 bucks. Why they are making me eat the $327 is beyond me. They appear to be desperate for money (just had to close their east location) and are willing to jerk around their customers to make some extra dimes.

The pleasant gym experience is not worth the administrative hassle!!! Go elsewhere!!!!
