I really enjoy yoga here! My girlfriend is close friends with the owner and the teacher of the classes I've occasionally attended. I really like the atmosphere and the challenge level of the Thursday night hips/core/explore classes.

Svia is amazing!! I took the hips, core & explore class and it was everything I needed. It was a good mix of Stretching, intention, and focusing on what's in front us. Svia brings her yoga practices and knowledge back to it's original form at her studio. The energy, people, space are all amazing! Not to mention Pedro (cutest little dog) who will take his tips in pets before or after class. 10/10 recommend (:

Absolutely in love with this studio. It’s the only place in Anchorage that feels like a real community yoga studio. Thank you for existing and for offering a wide array of classes and workshops at an affordable price.

Definitely recommend the prenatal yoga if needed, I was in so much pain for about a week, and the day after my first yoga class I woke up feeling 10x better with practically no pain. Svia is wonderful! Could not recommend her more, not only is she just a wonderful person and talented yoga instructor but she is a certified doula, so you know you’re in good hands!

I have taken an Adult Ballet Class from Kathryn for many years. I highly recommend her as a person who started with her as an adult. The space at Open Space is beautiful for ballet.

I have been going to prenatal yoga with Svia for a couple of months and have had a fantastic time. Not only has it brought me out of the house during the cold winter months, but it has allowed me to find peace alongside amazing women on a similar journey. Svia has structured the class to where we bond as a group while bonding with ourselves/baby. She also makes it very fun with music, prompts, partner activities, and laughter. The activities/class itself is very engaging and works the mind, body, and soul. You definitely get what you put in. Overall, amazing class and amazing instructor!!

Fantastic experience from start to finish. The owner (Svia) was very accommodating and easy to work with in scheduling a massage. I had a Thai massage that involved various stretches in addition to massage - it was therapeutic and relaxing. I’m a person that enjoys therapeutic massage and so often I’ve been disappointed by feeling like certain muscle issues were not addressed. This was not the case at Open Space. Svia is very experienced and worked on a part of my neck that I hadn’t specifically pointed out as a problem area. When I left I felt like I had taken a 20 pound pack off of my back. I will definitely make my way back here when I can.

The yoga studio is very clean, welcoming, and relaxing. Open Space also offers various yoga classes that I will be sure to check out in the future.

Open Space is a community oasis. I have never regretted attending a class or receiving body work here. I always leave feeling nurtured and well-cared for. And I absolutely love the community vibe and collaborative nature of Svia's business.

The instructor offered several clear variations of each posture. Allowing you to really dig into each move and open up your practice. The pace was quick enough to break a sweat but slow enough for deep engagement of all your muscles

Visiting anchorage for 10 days with a lot of time to kill, I was able to get a spot for the one-on-one yoga and bodywork combo session..and it was AMAZING! The instructor is clearly an expert in her field and catered the experience to my exact needs and wants. This was probably my favorite thing I did while visiting. The studio space is clean and relaxing and inviting. If I lived here, I would attend regularly.

There is so much I want to say about how wonderful Open Space is and how amazing Svia is. I experienced an incredible retreat with Svia a few weeks ago and I am still feeling the afterglow. It was a genuine treat to be lead through such wholehearted and deep (on many levels) yoga practice by such a skilled, passionate, and dedicated teacher.
The entire event was held outside with many safely precautions in place so that I felt completely comfortable and cared for even with the challenges of Covid. Svia gave me the gift of rest that weekend and the added experience of directing me back to the Wonder of the beginner's mind; a place I intend to return to time and time again. Thank you Open Space!

I received my first Thai massage the other day and Svia was amazing! It was such a gift to receive bodywork that incorporated similar elements of the yoga classes I love and miss offered at Open Space. I can’t wait to go back!

Svia is an amazing, gifted, and compassionate teacher! The space is low key and inviting. They have both regular yoga classes and lots of different workshops. I look forward to the time I get to spend at the studio.

I was new to anchorage and looking for a studio, and have finally found someplace amazing!!! Svia is seriously such a genuine, kind, and extremely skilled teacher. She offers a variety of classes, but my favorite is her Ashtanga short series. It is challenging but adaptable to anyone wanting to really feel strengthened and rejuvenated. I have grown a lot in my practice just by attending this weekly class for a little while. I have done teacher trainings and classes a lot of places over the years and some of my favorite classes of all time have been at this studio. If you’re thinking about it, just go! Thursday night is also a really fun class with great energy and a lovely welcoming spirit.

I have also had a thai massage from Svia which was very cool! I left feeling nurtured, which speaks volumes about how much Svia cares about her students.

I highly recommend Open Space Studio :).

I have enjoyed Svia’s yoga classes since 2006!!! Open space is my sanctuary and I love to be in that peaceful and creative environment. I’ve done a few workshops led by others that I also loved. The highlight of my practice with open space is the 108 Svia does for the summer solstice. Svia also does an amazing Thai massage. This is the best place in Anchorage.

A great community space. Currently I am really enjoying taking David's tai chi class on mondays. Many of the classes are by donation which I think is a rad offering, not everyone can afford 20 dollar yoga classes so it's nice that this is available to the community. Open space offers a wide variety of classes and a really comfortable feeling.

I’m rating this today because I have enjoyed attending Open Space and I am surprised it does not yet have more reviews. Open Space is a great studio with awesome staff. Classes are not over full, every attendee gets the full attention of the instructor, and the entire experience is as mindful and centered as yoga is meant to be. Classes are as hard or as easy as each attendee wants to make them, and I appreciate the positive seriousness with which the instructors approach their classes. Yoga is not a game or a popularity contest: it is an approach to muscle stability and strengthening, and an approach to healthy living. I unfortunately got roped into getting a ten class pass at Anchorage Yoga and have experienced that overcrowded and overpriced mess enough times to know what a gem Open Space is in Anchorage. And Open Space offers pay as you can classes! Thank you for being you, Open Space!

I would go here everyday if I could. Welcoming and dynamic community, a variety of opportunities to deepen your practice, and creative classes that evolve and keep you on your toes. This studio offers a balance of connection to the spiritual side of yoga along with vigorous classes that wake up your body too :)

Open Space is a welcoming yoga studio and community space. Besides great regular yoga offerings with amazing local teachers, they often host weekend workshops with master teachers traveling from afar. Svia has been my teacher since I moved to Anchorage 10 years ago. At each class, I learn something new and leave feeling a lot more balanced and at peace than when I arrived. She provides a complete practice for body, mind, and spirit.

Open Space is Anchorage's best kept secret! The studio itself has tons of natural light; it's very welcoming and it just feels good! Not to mention it's affordable and the teachers, THE TEACHERS, are wonderful! One of my first EVER yoga classes was at Svia's Hips, Core, Explore class at Laughing Lotus before she re-opened as Open Space Yoga Studio. Her classes are consistently powerful and well rounded, though incredibly versatile. To know Svia, or to know Open Space is to know that you are part of the family just by walking in the front door. If you are looking for Community, Fun, Intention or an Authentic Space to practice then Open Space would be great studio to find yourself next time you are looking.

No refund / cancellation policy originally listed on website. That has changed, but we were the ones to bear the weight and lose half of our cost of a weekend session. There was an emergency from over 100 miles away (flaming car battery, anyone?), so we couldn't make it. If this company was so charitable, giving, and understanding, they'd have given us a full refund. In fact, they were very passive and dismissive about the entire situation. This doesn't mean they arent good at what they do, it just means they screwed up royally with us. If they give us the rest of the refund, this review will be modified. So much for Karma!

This is the most amazing yoga studio! I have gone to every studio in Anchorage and many in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. This is by far MY FAVORITE. The community is welcoming, the teachers are very well educated and helpful, and I always leave feeling like my energy has been given a positive boost. I can't give this studio enough praises. I especially love the pre-natal yoga classes taught by Svia and Karen. This is my sacred time, and I miss it terribly when I am not able to attend. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Very affordable too!

Don't listen to the review about the return policy, this studio is based on donations and they do so many positive gatherings for the community. It would not be in their character to be dismissive you if you had an issue.
