Shout out to Joshua Hamilton one of the membership coordinators at JRC, just got a membership and he helped me figure out which plan they offer would best fit my needs since I might only be in town a few months! Thanks again Joshua!

Just finished a six-week training session with Manny. It was a fantastic experience. He is highly knowledgeable about exercise, diet, stretching, and other subjects related to health. He pushed hard through workouts, and he gets results! Highest recommendation.

Great staff, fun group classes, plenty of machines to use and space so there is plenty to do even during the busiest of times. Best sauna in town and nice big locker rooms.

I have been in Juneau for several months now, and I soon found out that living in Alaska is not for the weak.
This place has been a great outlet for me as I take advantage of all the classes and opportunities to stay healthy and make connections. One big bonus is the very friendly and knowledgeable staff Tavish, who normally greets me at the front desk. From day one she have been a great resource and encouragement. I always look forward to seeing her when I walk through the entrance, and when she is not at the front desk,  she is busy vacuuming or running around collecting towels.  I really appreciate her, as she has filled me in on the Do's and Don'ts of living in Juneau. It's good to have good people who would go out of their way to help a stranger. I am so appreciative. Keep Up the good work Alaska Club Juneau!

It's great that the Club is offering personal training. Manny is an outstanding personal trainer! What sets him apart is the way he creates truly personalized training plans that fit my goals, abilities, and schedule. He takes the time to understand where I’m starting from, pushes me just the right amount, and adjusts workouts so they’re both challenging and achievable. I’ve seen real progress—not only in strength and fitness, but also in confidence—because Manny makes the process motivating and enjoyable. Thank you!

Just did a dropin on a day pass off a princess alaskan cruise. Great service off the front welcoming me into the facility, and very reliable equipment. Powerlifting and also athletic training friendly for as far as I can see, and the other spots like the steam room looked very tidy.

Cecille's Zumba class is amazing! She brings great energy & passion for dance, has super fun music, and makes us sweat. (Yes - Zumba is cardio!) I've taken a lot of Zumba classes over the years & Cecille is my favorite teacher by far! Her Saturday AM class is a great way to shake off the work week and set the tone for a fun weekend.

Friendly and well-equipped gym in walking distance of downtown and the docks. Probably the best view of any gym in Alaska if not all North America — looking out over Gastineau Channel and the mountains on Douglas Island. Rarely crowded, squeaky clean, and an excellent range of cardio and weight equipment. Steam room and sauna; popular with locals. Great place!

I love the instructor and the class. However the facility is lacking. We need more weights. We need more space - the team training room could expand into the storage area adjacent. I will keep coming to team training because I love rhe workout - but would really appreciate some attention to the space. It was also very hot in the room. There is also a giant hole in the wall. 5 stars are for the instructor.

I’m tired of calling for my 21 trial refund. Every time I call, they give me a different call number to claim my refund.

I enjoy going to the downtown club several times a week, the staff are very friendly and try their best to keep up with a short staff, the building has several issues at the moment that puts a damper on things.

JRC is not exactly what I would call good customer serivce. The gym itself is nice (it was recently NOT 24 hours but about 2 or so months ago they opened it at the downtown location). My issue with them is the customer service with regards to emails, phone calls, just communication in general.

Was told (emails to prove it) that I was not going to be charged a startup as well as they would wave the cancellation fee had I not decided to stay 1 full year (some sort of promotion for people to join that I bit on). Well that apparently is not true for either, the commincation was done through one of the downtown Juneau employees who still has not responded to any emails. The communication with the Anchorage accounting department was better but not great. They want specific things to show when moving and or change of address. And not just a cell phone bill or a new ID card. Were talking something that it takes multiple calls and emails to get. (Property tax, utilitiy bill). It takes a lot of jumping through different hoops to get to a successful outcome.

Anyway, they decided to charge me $200 for a cancellation because I did not finish out my year. Quite honestly they are a money grab for a corporation.

Overall, gym is nice, the locker rooms are nice, everything about the gym is good but dealing with "management" if thats what you want to call it has been awful. Most of the front desk workers do not have a clue what they are doing other than cleaning equipment which they do.

0.5 out of 5 stars for this place due strictly to the customer service and management personnel.

If customer service existed within the corporation it would be a 4/5.

I have been a member of the Juneau Racquet Club - Alaska Club since 2001 when we moved to Juneau. Along with the assistance of a physical therapist, the gym was extremely helpful for my recovery from a car injury. Over the years, I have been quite faithful to attend and reap the benefits of the gym except when I was of town. When I first started the membership, I recall the yearly cost was about $700.

You asked for some information about current experiences. I am grateful for the availability of the facilities in Juneau. Here are some current thoughts about the Alaska Club:
1. It was clear that the windows, frames, walls, shades and surrounding areas were deteriorating. Trash and debris on the floor. Shades on the windows are very important for the rare sunny days!
2. The stationary bikes by the windows work "sort of" most of the time.
3. The women's locker room needs some consistent attention with debris on the floors, poorly draining sinks and unattended hygiene receptacles.
4. Not uncommon to see that staff are standing in front of the television set and watching the programs or at the check-in desk seriously engaged in iPhone-ology without a lot of attention to clients (like available towels, rips in the mats or machines that do not function).
5. The cost are becoming prohibitive - especially for older people on fixed incomes. Some accommodation for elders and those on known fixed incomes will be extremely useful to enhance the health of these populations.

Thank you for these considerations. I will try to continue my membership for as long as I can.

Nice beer selection, entertaining crowd for sure. I really like the old school decorations and ambience. You can see the layers of years gone by. Our bartender was very kind, helpful and entertaining. This seems like a great Juneau institution and I would come back for an event or night out.

Awesome gym with friendly staff. Only thing missing from the downtown location is the lack of 24x7 access and at the very least closing timing especially on weekends. Early closing on weekends disturbs the regularity of going to gym on a certain time and is not very environmentally friendly as well since downtown residents have to drive ~20 mile round trip to the valley gym.

Been an on/off member for a number of years and I have to say that the most recent overall upgrade/remodel is fantastic! Not really doing weight training right now, but I can see the sparkle from the new equipment, feel unbounded by the open floor plan and the lighting helps with focus. The men's locker room is much brighter, cleaner and private with locking shower stalls. Great Job, Manager!

Walked in this morning to an employee staring at their phone, bathroom:locker room dirty and out of tp..,
This unfortunately is the case at least 50% of the time here. Some of the staff do a very nice job and are always hustling. If not for the multiple locations I would go elsewhere. This really could be a decent place if some of the staff were held accountable.

I no longer live in Alaska but when I did, was a member of the Alaska Club for over 10 years, and mostly used the downtown Juneau location (occasionally used the valley location for classes). The instructors for Group Power, Spinning, Zumba, and Yoga were all great. They were engaged with the class dynamics, and for Group Power in particular, gave detailed instructions on posture, how to hold the bar, etc. The facility was clean, well-light and had a good variety of treadmills and weight machines. Still looking for a place that offers such a good variety of classes .....

They have predatory sales tactics and really push things like "first month free" or trial periods.
What they won't tell you(initially) is these trials automatically extend to a year long commitment. They'll try to deflect this by saying you're free to cancel. However, when you try to cancel they'll reveal that you can, in fact, only cancel under very specific circumstances, like having gone in 2.3 times a week without fail for 90 days... you miss one week by only going in once and BAM! You're trapped in a year long contract that they won't release you from until you pay the $450 cancellation fee. They also seem to have a tight relationship with Cornerstone Credit, so not making payments on your membership because you didn't know they enrolled you into one will quickly turn into a Collections issue. This is just one example, people, but believe me, their entire business model employs these types of strategies.

Another example: A coworker of mine with an Alaska Club membership was wrongfully charged for some class she didn't take. When she contested this they gave her the runaround for weeks. When she finally proved that she didn't attend the class, instead of giving her back her money they only gave her credit for their overpriced supplement store...but get this... they didn't inform her of the credit allocation until AFTER the credit they gave her expired. She had to raise hell all over again to even get the credit back!

One more then I'm off my soap box...
They're supposed to offer releases from contracts without penalty if a doctor diagnoses you with any condition that prevents you from being able to safely exercise, but when my coworker (yes, the same one) was diagnosed with COVID they gave her the run around yet again and, last I spoke with her, still are.

Now I'd like to give what little credit is due by saying that, for the most part, the facilities are fairly nice and well maintained. They also have a fair selection of equipment as well as several other offerings like pools, massages, classes and personal trainers, even if you'll have to pay extra for any of them despite already paying 80-120 dollars a month for your membership...but of course, they won't actually tell you an exact price until you go in and submit to one heavy sales pitch after another.

Save your money and your sanity. Alaska Club is a predatory entity that doesn't deserve our community's patronage.

The Alaska Club membership fees are outrageously high. I get a month to month memberships during the few months I’m in Juneau which runs me $165/month. It’s obscene but even if you’re not month-to-month it’s around $100/month which is still outrageous for what you get.. I’m otherwise a Planet Fitness member which is clean, up-to-date, and has all the equipment I need for a low $20/month fee. Compared to the competition in Juneau, the Alaska Club has nicer facilities, but that’s not saying very much. The staff are aloof, Wi-Fi is frequently down, the interior is sweltering hot and they removed fans and won’t let windows open, equipment is often broken, facilities are messy, and the locker room is dated. If you raise these issues, you’re met with indifferent management.

They were very kind to this traveler. It is located on the second floor behind the supermarket with a view of the bay. All the reviews from locals made me think I should skip this place, but the showers/sauna were clean. The workout machines were in working order. The weights were in place. They even have coffee, light weight snacks and a lounge to escape the rain.

I joined for a year, with an option to leave after 90 days. The 90 days couldn't come fast enough. The staff were extremely helpful and eager when I wanted to join, but after that were amazingly unhelpful and misleading. The equipment, especially the treadmills were subpar. I often had to try two to three before finding one that seemed to work correctly. I reported this to staff and nothing was done about it. The steam rooms and sauna's were less than sanitary and smelled something foul. I opted out at the 90 day mark and that was an event in and of itself. They ignored me at first, hoping to lock me into the remainder of the year is my guess. Only after I stopped payments did they seem to acknowledge me. Then came after me for more money. No matter where you are in Alaska, there are far better options. Even if there weren't I wouldn't go The Alaska Club.
