For a business that provides a real service they sure do operate like a scam. Targeting elders and making it extremely expensive to cancel the membership. Should be ashamed. Over $500 to cancel a yearly membership they roped an elder into.

Edit since I can’t reply:
If you really have this respect for elders then your staff should be trained to take their word for it when they say they don’t remember signing up. If an elder isn’t cognizant enough to remember signing the paperwork well then #1 they shouldn’t have been pressured to sign it in the first place and #2 just take the loss and let them out without trying to get another $500 out of it.

Open 24 hrs and ample parking. Sauna/hot tub which is nice after a workout. Avoid the after-work rush unless you don't mind waiting for a machine. I hope they'll get a big timer on the wall in the weight room. It would be very helpful!

I would give this review zero stars, but unfortunately, in order to write a review, I have to at least give a one-star rating.

I called this morning around 9:30 AM and spoke with a very helpful gentleman regarding membership pricing and benefits. He was courteous and informative, but unfortunately, he was not the person in charge of memberships. He informed me that either Aaron or Joshua would be in later to discuss memberships and provided me with the appropriate times to call back.

Following his advice, I called again around 11:30 AM and selected option 2 to speak to someone regarding memberships. There was no answer. Frustrated but hopeful, I immediately called back and selected option 0 to reach a different department. I was transferred to a young lady who was noticeably unpleasant on the phone. When I told her I wanted to speak to someone about memberships, she did not place me on hold. Instead, I heard her loudly say, β€œYeah, she’d like to join. You better answer, and you better be nice, Joshua!”

Joshua answered the phone with a clear attitude, as if he didn’t want to be at work today. When I began asking about membership pricing and mentioned the $0 enrollment online promotion, he rudely interrupted me, stating he could not give pricing over the phone. As I continued to ask about the amenities and benefits of the gym, he repeatedly interrupted me, making it clear he had no interest in assisting me. His tone was dismissive and unprofessional.

When I requested the name of his manager to address my concerns, he outright refused to provide it. This level of customer service is unacceptable.

After some research, I was able to identify the manager, Brian. Brian, if you are reading this, I strongly urge you to address the severe lack of professionalism and courtesy within your team. The behavior I experienced from Joshua and the young lady who transferred my call reflects poorly on your establishment. Immediate action is required to rectify these issues, or you risk losing a potentially loyal customer.

At the start of 2024 I had hip replacement surgery. I chose the Alaska club as my resource for rehabilitation. Not only did they have the exercise equipment that I needed but they also had red light therapy, cryotherapy, water massage chairs, a steam room and sauna. The staff was incredibly helpful in accommodating my needs as I was using a cane to get around. Thanks to the resources at the Alaska club, I was able to return to work four weeks after the surgery. I am now preparing for another surgery to replace the other hip and I am grateful for the 24-hour access that allows me to do my physical therapy in the morning before work and before the kids wake up.

The classes are great and the equipment availability is more than enough even at seemingly the most busy times. The cons of this gym include the lack of various amenities that I would expect from a gym that I’m paying 120+ per month for. Body towels don’t get folded they are just in a bin that you have to grab from, soap dispensers in the showers have been broken for months, (you have to dunk your hand in the top portion to get soap) bathrooms are consistently out of toilet paper in the women’s locker room, they used to have other amenities in the locker room that they don’t anymore. It’s very bare bones in a lot of ways considering the price of the membership. I have been to Alaska Clubs up north and they are much nicer in the category of amenities.

We’ve had a family account for many years - i went in to use it and they couldn’t find my account - and their accounts person had left for the day. Did a 40 minute drive all the way for nothing. Very unhelpful - we’ve been members for years and this happens all the time. Constant problems, which if the cost of membership was cheap no big deal… but for the cost of how expensive it is… just frustrating.

I really like the improvement that they did to the building, and I got awesome help with opening an account to be a memeber, and it's been about 7 years since the last time I was here. I did notice they do need a major upgrade on they computers and software and scanning equipment. I was told my old profile and photo were still in the system as an employee when I used to work there, which was odd and hoping they could change that. I also noticed they files and binders are not organized and not labeled to be easier to search through things when returning movies. Also, the movie racks definitely need to be upgraded to be able to view through them easier because they are so jammed up tight together with no much room to take them out. The men's bathroom I noticed does need to be upgraded and need more bathroom stalls as well and more scales to weigh ourselves without having to wait on others with more signs to let people know to clean after themselves in the whole area in the men's lockers room/bathroom definitely needs a plug in scent and better air circulation 100% needed. I highly recommend for after hours entry to be able to have more cameras outside and more bike racks for people that ride they bike to the gym and a helpful sigh to remind people to lock they bike because I over heard someone's bike got stolen at the gym before I left. I highly recommend multiple vending machines inside as well for drinks and protein bars or whatever helps everyone not have to ride back to the store or home and a recycling water machine to fill up our waters as well easier without plainly using a sink or trying to find a drinking fountain to fill up our water bottles. Also, it is more helpful to have reminder signs for everyone to wipe down what they use because I don't see much people use it when hopping on multiple random equipments and not wiping down what they use and needing a more clear helpful signs to know which bin is for clean and dirty white towels and a more helpful station table spots for full bottle and empty sanitize Disinfect liquid bottles to place at after they are done being used. I noticed a spider danging from where I was working out at in the after hours area and I dont know if they spray to kill bugs and spiders but I hope they start doing that to the whole building so me or no one else gets bit. The last thing I noticed so far is that when renting the movies and there is no way to return them when they close, there should be a strong, heavy-duty drop box that way we don't have to forget to bring them back or not able to due to our busy schedules and with work. Overall, keep up the good work on the improvements to have the environment more attractive to want us all to come back more and bring more interested new members to the gym.

Very clean and well organized. As far as equipment they have most of what you would need for any workout. Rarely do I have to get creative to replace a movement due to lack of equipment. The staff is also very friendly and motivated.

I would give them 5 stars if there was a little more variety in equipment. Better than most but not as great as some.

It's been sometime now through COVID and they have continued to do an amazing job. I would say they have actually improved through COVID. Same star rating for the same reasons.

Everything is solid except at the Juneau Valley location you have a female staff memeber coming into the guys locker room at 8pm when the gym closes to clean the locker room. Usually there are multiple men changing and have to accommodate. For a million dollar multi city business you would assume a male could have this job. For that you get 4/5.

The club has a wide variety of work-out options and space. I've noticed that a few pieces of equipment are missing knobs (i.e., lat pull down machine seat height adjustment knob) or some of the weights in the main weight room were broken or are missing. We would benefit from one or two extra flat benches on the main weight room floor. I've noticed that the staff is particularly friendly and I appreciate that. I used to be a regular at Group Power for years; but when the class started requiring pre-registration, it became hard to sign up in time, all the time. It's a shame, because the instructors are great and it's a very efficient workout. I like it when there's music playing in the main gym/weight room area - I wish that were always the case. There's a small bottle-neck where the leg machines meet near the after-hours exit. It'd be cool if the machines in that area could be spaced to improve the natural walkways. It goes without saying that you probably can't vacuum and sweep the floors often enough. Otherwise, everything is generally very good.

Men's shower room often untidy, showers are antiquated and pickleball players are less accommodated than are tennis players. Pickleball lines should be permanently painted diagonally to tennis lines in a different color on both Courts 1 & 2. Other than that, I like JRC Alaska Club and the staff there..

Pretty solid gym all around. It well stocked with equipment and kept pretty clean. 24 hour access to the main floor is nice. The only real downside here is the back rooms get pretty messy as the people are lazy as F and just leave their weights and equipment all about the room. I mean I've been going here a year and I always have to organize that room before I can use it.

That aside it's a gum I'd recommend to anyone.

Despicable customer service from corporate, to the point I filed a complaint adjacent their business practices to the BBB for refusing to cancel my account & trying to charge me for *months* of bills even after i canceled and moved 4 time zones away. This was a number of years ago so I hope that person is long gone and they have changed their ways.

It's a very expensive place, but if you mind becoming a member of a good workout Club, this would be the place to go. There's even a place that has an area, where your kid's spend time in their own special area, while you work out, or you can go swimming, lift weight's, work on the treadmill,& they even have male,& female locker's, (separately of course). Total rip off! Do not go to ALEX CAO!! for a membership. I was told by Alex that I could apply for a month to month and payed about $150 then cancled it after one month due to a school sport. I went to the valley JRC to sign a contract of my cancellation then few months later was told i never cancled and needed to pay 350+. After 1 month I never stepped foot on there facility, but already payed $150 prior to that. Showed them my bill they charged on my credit card and reduced it to $250+. I then complained to the manager but he did nothing but tell me he cant help me at all. I payed over $250+ for a membership that i cancled and never even stepped foot on there facility after my cancellation. I suggest going to a different gym. They scam you in JRC!!!

I do not understand the female staff member, the one with a nose ring; one bit. She is rude and stuck-up and seems unwilling to provide even basic customer service standards..

After my workout I stood at the front desk, waiting for her to show up so I could RETURN a movie I had checked out the previous day. Without asking me how she could help she me, she launched into a tantrum about how I shouldn’t try renting movies at such a late hour (very close to the gym’s closing time).

She is extremely rude and I don’t want to have to interact with her in the future.. which can only be accomplished by canceling my membership at the 90-Mark..Definitely considering the other gym options in town after tonight.

From reading the other complaint-reviews, COMPANY will response with a generic β€œoh we’re so sorry, we will do better, give us another chance pretty please,” rhetoric response.

If so, I know what time it is. Which no one in the basketball court room would; that clock has been stuck at 7:00 since the day I joined over 7 weeks ago...

JRC clients are clearly no more than line items on a general ledger. Zero β€œcare” given.

I've had gym memberships all across the country and in my experience the Alaska Club is by far the most expensive, but provides the least value. There are constant problems with the facilities: broken windows, leaking roof, dirty bathrooms, inoperable equipment. When there are more than 2 people at the gym WiFi is so slow that streaming music is impossible.

The only place in the downtown location to do individual exercises without weights (yoga, Pilates, stretching, etc.) is the group fitness room. This room is, of course, used for group fitness classes during peak times, but it is also frequently used by classes that aren't on the schedule. So, even if you check the class schedule the room might not be available when you get there.

I should add that there have been some recent improvements to the facility, such as putting decorative baskets in the men's locker room.
