This place is super ghetto. If your looking for a gym to lift in this isn’t it. All the equipment is either old and barley works or old and doesn’t work. You have janitors seeeping under people actively running on treadmills. Treadmills are ancient and don’t work well or properly. The setup of gym equipment makes 0 sense. This gym is for old people that want to walk around naked in the locker room and sauna/hot tub. It’s not for serious people. Unfortunately planet fitness in wasilla is 100xbetter and they didn’t exactly set the bar high. Don’t get a membership here. It’s a trap

I've been going here from since I was like 6 or 7 and now I'm 14 and to this day I still love the facility, it's always clean, there's always fresh towels around, and anytime you ask anything of the staff there very friendly and accommodating. I will say this though. The pool is still a little dirty sometimes and the Xbox's they have in the kids zone could use some better controllers

I absolutely love this gym, especially with the child play center! There is so many things to do and my children love playing in the child center. Our favorite part is the pool with the kid splash park and the slides that are perfect for their age! Highly recommend!!

The Wasilla AK club is certainly a mixed bag! All the bathroom areas of the club are particularly run down and the family locker room is consistently SO dirty! The pool needs to be cleaned much more frequently as well. Fortunately, Sheyenne, the club manager, has made the Wasilla Alaska Club a much better club compared to what it used to be. She is managing all the awful problems that were left by the managers preceding her. She fixed the consistently broken tanning equipment and hydromassage after she received feedback.
While the club is still way dirtier and run down than anyone should expect with the current going rate, Sheyenne is steadily working to make all the improvements happen. I think all the members who’ve stuck it out or had memberships prior to her tenure should receive a lot of membership credits to make up for what it clearly could’ve been since clearly Sheyenne is plugging away making it better regularly. Where did $$ from the last 5 years of membership go? Keep asking if you have problems because Sheyenne will go to bat!

We joined Alaska club in Wasilla a month ago. I have nothing but great things to say! It is always clean, workers have always been kind and helpful!! 10/10 recommend to all of my friends and coworkers! I enjoy the sauna and hot tub after my workout, that alone makes it worth it to me!

Club is clean and well maintained. Family friendly with a very fun daycare as well as a kid zone for older kids and a family fitness room for younger kids to workout with their parents.

Rewarding Fitness Experience; Good Local Management. When I joined, several years ago, I asked for a list of companies which supplemented or provided discounts for members. The staff provided me with a paper with over 50 companies (from Credit Unions to Hospitals to State Agencies) which, if affiliated, would discount a membership. Fitness can also be written off taxes if a doctor works with you to manage diabetes, heart issues, etc. Fitness can also be a prescription for mental health issues. I credit my continued fitness success to the Club manager, Sheyenne. I was ready to give up, yet she doesn't give up on me (or anyone else). Whether Sheyenne is in her office, or scrubbing walls, or mopping floors (she knows every square inch of the building), it is always a friendly "Hello" and "How are you doing?" The Wasilla Alaska Club has a very hardworking, keen, sharp, and intelligent manager. In my fitness journey, I've lost over 200 pounds. I did regain 100 pounds, yet thankfully some of that is muscle (which weighs more than fat). Feb 2024 UPDATE: Sheyenne, our Alaska Club Manager, is painting our building. I overheard her letting employees know they needed to do a better job and not allow paint spatter to dry on the floor. Sheyenne is a true leader and not afraid to put employees in high gear! When I saw Sheyenne today, her clothes were covered in paint. Sheyenne doesn't ask of any employee what she wouldn't do herself. Oct 2025 UPDATE: Memberships in The Alaska Club continue to grow. Sheyenne continues to successfully manage, tending to every aspect of the building and equipment. When Sheyenne isn't in her office, she is out scrubbing the equipment or mopping the floors. Sheyenne is a great managerial role model. It isn't easy to manage a huge gym; it is truly a whole lot of work. I truly couldn't do it. Sheyenne makes it appear easy.

I’ve been a member at the Alaska club in Wasilla for a while now. It’s a good gym with a lot to offer, but I have to be honest- I’d really like to see better maintenance and cleanliness in some areas. That said, my experience there actually led to me becoming a lifeguard for them and it’s been great.

Today August 2,2025 . 6:00 pm .
I waited about 30 minutes in the men's room for towels because there weren't any. I was wet. I had just come from the pool and was cold. I dried myself off with toilet paper as best I could and went home. Please pay more attention to these things. Many people shower or swim, and then being wet isn't comfortable. Thank you.

Wasilla AK Club: Their representative came on too strong and might need some further training on sales/marketing. They forgot that i physically showed up for the initial appointment and kept calling saying that I missed it. The facility seems a little outdated otherwise it's got more than enough. It seems more like a mid-tier spa rather than a gym, but I suppose that's what Club means.

5/14/25- the photo is immediatly after they "cleaned" the women's locker room hot tub... nasty. The filter doesn't work. I constantly bring it up and they say they will clean the hot tub. This is how they clean. Hair, debris, and what looks like spit is constantly floating. Health hazard.

Original- The pool and hot tubs are gross. People wear underwear instead of swim suits. Random adults sitting around the pools with their cell phones, doing who knows what. I think they use the pools as their way of washing themselves. Gross debris floating in the water. Muddy shoes are worn around the pool and locker rooms. Creepy maintenance men walking around the pools constantly.

I had the pleasure of working with Scott for my PT consultations shortly after joining the club, and while I was not able to afford to continue at this time I would highly recommend him for anyone wanting to build strength and endurance. I am planning on going into the military and didn't really know where to start with everything, but with the three sessions I had with him he taught me some good stretches to go forward with as well as how to improve my flexibility and a workout for me to continue doing in order to reach my goals.

This gym has a little bit of everything and was a real lifesaver with two small kiddos in the winter. I have found the Alaska Club to be very family friendly. Ms. Terri was very considerate in giving my dad an extended pass while he was in from out of state, which as a lifetime gym rat, he was so grateful for.
I have had overall pleasant experiences with childcare and interacting with staff. The facilities are relatively clean and my family loves having access to the pool. Like I said, there’s a little bit of everything so it has been ideal for my family.

I have had a membership at Alaska club for years now. Let me tell you. Firstly, that lady in membership is the worst. I’ve called dozens of times to cancel my membership and when I do get a call back she does everything in her power to stop me from cancelling. Terri, on top of being like a scammer, is the rudest person. Whenever I try to bring my extended family in, she stops being nice to them the instant they decline a membership. I have caught her multiple times talking down to my daughter when she was silently minding her business.
Next. The cleanliness is horrible. There is mold everywhere and my husband is constantly telling me how strong the smell of urine is in the men’s locker room. I love to use weights, but in all of the rooms there are few sets and the 50s are always being used.
The managers are nice to the people, and so are the staff, but they all look tired and most of the time the big bosses are making the underpaid staff do housekeeping duties that should be done while the club is closed by a real crew of men. Maybe this is why the club is molding into the ground. It is so cheap they have to make all of the little guys do all the gross things so they don’t have to pay for anything.

We come back to use the splash pad only to be informed it was closed, a private party. Poor poor communication

This place is an absolute scam. I signed up for a membership and my bill has not been the same month to month. It goes up every month without warning or explanation. There are hidden fees upon hidden fees. I'm being sent to the lower 48 for work permanently and trying to cancel my membership is an absolute nightmare. Not only do I get several different answers from several different people the cost is INSANE to cancel. They're trying to charge me nearly $1000 just to cancel! They make it sound simple and easy but yet when it comes time to cancel they make you go back and pay for things that I was originally told was free. Nothing is ever free and this gym will make that known to you. Don't offer a month free when you're going to charge it when you cancel your membership. LOL that's not free then. Never ever would I go back to this gym. Absolutely worthless and no one knows what the prices are or what they're doing. Not a chance would I refer anyone here. You're much better off going to Planet Fitness down the road.

Horribly expensive for old equipment and a moldy building. They're constantly painting and have mold mitigation going on. The pool playground is rusty and needs updating. Several machines in the cardio room are frequently out-of-service, and the ones that do work don't work well. The childcare is hit and miss, but the playground area and toys must not be cleaned often because our kids almost always got sick after attending.
Our experience with customer service there in general has been terrible. We've reported broken equipment before, and they did nothing about it. We had one of the employees get mad at our special-needs son for wearing a rash guard in the pool.
We got military orders on short notice and they're insisting we have to pay for another month because we "have to give 30 days notice". There was no compassion for our situation and they were very rude to us about the entire situation. I hope the $200 they're taking from us for that month makes a big difference for them, because it does for us! If only the military had given *us* 30 days notice that we'd be moving...

Definitely not one of their cleanliest clubs. You can tell in the little details how they don’t care about the Wasilla customer as much as south anchorage. Such as, in the women’s bathroom there are three sinks but only two soap dispensers. In the South club not only do they have enough hand soap but also offer lotion, tissues and feminine products. But that is just a small issue when compared to how the company doesn’t take care of their employees or offer a good living wage. For as much as I pay I wish they did better.
Saying all that this is still a much better option than Planet Fitness.

We have had the Alaska Club membership well over a year now. It was good for a while but the cost of $170/month for just my wife and I was too much to justify for another year so we decided to cancel our membership. This is where it went south…We called a week before our next billing cycle and asked to cancel our membership but they refused. They said they needed at least 30 days notice before billing to cancel the membership so we must pay another $170.00 and have the membership for another month. After going back and forth for a while we begrudgingly agreed to this. A month later I notice another charge go through even through we haven’t made it into the club once. After a long phone call we are informed that we need to have a formal cancellation a month ahead of billing via phone AND need to confirm this via email! I can’t believe such business practices are committed by local companies like this…I am extremely disappointed they treated us like this after paying them in total $3,060.00 over 18 month. Horrible way to treat people. We will never recommend them to anyone and will do my best to make sure the word gets out about them.

The Alaska Club in Wasilla has great facilities and options for basic monthly fee: gym, a lot of group trainings, family gym, pool, dry sauna and steam room (both separate for men and women), hot tube, changing room (you just need your own locker), showers, towels. If you pay more, you have even more perks. The club is well maintained. The schedule of group classes is very convenient, you can choose whether to join in the morning or in the evening. There is a lot of different equipment in the gym, you can work on every muscle.
Instructors in group classes are professional and supportive. They motivate you to be better than yesterday. The atmosphere at each class is very warm and welcoming. I have visited the majority of group classes and I like all of them.
Wonderful staff working at the reception, your good mood starts when you pass them. Great cleaning staff, all rooms and facilities in the club are always clean.
And of course wonderful people who come and train there! I am happy to be part of this community now.
Highly recommend the Club in Wasilla, it's absolutely worth coming there!

The building upkeep and maintenance is subpar. There are no clean towels in the mens’ locker room 80% of the time. The floor under the urinals is a mesh material that doesn’t ever get cleaned and reeks of urine. There are urine splatters on the walls that have never been cleaned in the 9 months that I’ve been going there. They lock you into a contract so by the time you notice how horrible of a facility it is you’re stuck paying the $200+ per month for 12 months. I certainly will not be renewing my contract once it expires. I encourage everyone to stray away from this club at all costs. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

I wish they have more staff. Because though I can tell their childcare workers do love kids- I can see their overworked and tired.
My biggest complaint is child security, noone checks that the parents are taking kids out of building and noone to watch older (9+) kids (which for most is ok, but with our special needs child needs someone to make sure they don't run outside to play...)
They need some small maintenance done to the building, and need better hot water heater, but the classes and equipment are great.
The teachers of the workout classes to above and beyond to make sure it's at your level and that you feel comfortable and welcome.
The staff is helpful with questions and professional.
Overall it's a great gym.

The Alaska Club in Wasilla is great place to workout. I feel like I am getting a much better experience since I got to start working with Shannon as a personal trainer, who has turned out to be a godsend. While my greatest interaction is with Shannon, every one working at the Wasilla Club has been extremely friendly and helpful.

I only have a single negative issue that keeps me from giving them five stars is the frustration I experience I have with some of the equipment that stores personnel training programs that I use that have on more that one occasion I have not been able to login to.

AK Club Wasilla the building is falling apart, the roof leaks everywhere, the building and workout equipment are poorly maintained, its dirty, the place stinks from leaks in the walls, urinals haven’t been able to flush for years, so they smell all the time, the WiFi is too slow to use in most parts of the building and the weights are never put away. I’m only a member because there isn’t a better option in the area.

Almost perfect in terms of what they have to offer gym wise but terribly ran. Stupid high prices and dumb policies. Idk who’s in charge of that but they just lost two customers. Good job guys 👍🏼 hope you stay in business.

Overpriced and ripoff! Not happy. We paid a 90 day contract with them for $163. Not even on the 2nd month, they charged $196? Why? Ripoff! Sooooo don't recommend ever getting a contract with this scamming company! Scam! Scam! Scam!

The Alaska Club has struggled since I've been a member off and on over the last five years. They've struggled with maintenance issues, equipment issues, staffing issues and cleaning.

In the last couple months the situation at the gym has improved greatly because of the new manager. The conditions at the gym are improving, cleaning is being done regularly and the maintenance crew seems to be busy. Although the roof leaking is still an ongoing and frustrating thing.

Recently we have decided to cancel our Alaska club and move to a different cheaper gym. With inflation taking off and the cost of living skyrocketing, the AK Club really needs to assess their membership structure.

If there was an option for individuals or couples to pay less to just use the exercise areas, that would be perfect. But for us it seems silly to continue to pay for a massive AK Club membership bill that covers amenities we aren't using.

Long story short when you walk in this place paying $160 or more and month you don't see that value. The club is improving but their membership pricing structure will eventually drive at least some of their locations to continue to close. And I imagine eventually they'll be priced completely out of the market.

I have been impressed by the front desk; Michelle is not only warm and friendly on arrival and departure, if there are any issues that need to be dealt with, she goes out of her way to find someone to solve it. It's a pleasure to see her early in the morning each day.

I like everything down at the Wasilla Alaska Club. If there's any downsides one of them is it gets cold in there in the winter. That shouldn't pose a problem now. Everything else has been good, clean and useable. Thanx

Great facility, kind and caring staff. Lots of great weightlifting and cardio equipment. I enjoy the sauna and the steam room when time allows. On the weekends I am still able to get a workout in if I bring my kids to the family exercise room which is usually empty. Occasionally finish up with a swim in the pool and soak in the hot tub.

work out machines are very wore out, abused, old and the gym is very dirty and not well kept up on. the attachments for the cable machine are the same just old and very used. They don’t wanna rotate and they screech with every repetition. the ceiling is falling in, water damage everywhere the carpet and whole place smells like a sweaty old gym bag. i’ll see the same empty bang energy cans and used towels and shaker cups in the same places for weeks at a time so it tell me they don’t even pick up the trash and use towels around the gym at least once a day so who knows how often the staff is wiping down the machines and equipment

My wife uses the club 3 time a week with the “pool Aerobics “ I’m on a medical. I did “Racket Ball” at the Palmer club 3 times a week. Now that it’s closed I’m not sure what I’ll do when Dr. says it’s ok to come back.
Back to the review, my wife complains every day when she gets home. The pool area is dirty, bottom of the pool has sand on it because they don’t use a pool vac. Water in the pool is cold most of the time. She says the locker rooms are dirty, showers are dirty, no soap or shampoo, lots of time no towels. She tells me that they complain but nothing is ever done!
We had this same problem over at the Palmer club for a while, but we took our complaints to the top. That’s the only place you get action. My wife and I have been members of Alaska Club ever since they came out the the valley and took over. I’m not quite sure why the Palmer Club was closed, but now there is no where in the Valley at all to play racket ball. The courts in Wasilla are a joke.
I like the Alaska Club but once you become a member don’t seem like they care much as long as you pay their dues! My wife and I pay very high dues, but it don’t seem to matter if you have a complaint! They have great programs but not very good management!!

The gym is expensive. Good quality cardio machines, but the free weight/machines are outdated.
Two weeks ago the ceiling collapsed from water damage on me in the middle of my workout. No one checked on me, or offered assistance.
For the price we pay monthly, $160 for me and my husband, I would definitely expect a higher quality of a gym.

I pay $105 for a mediocre gym, unless you use the pool and child services, it’s not worth it. The roof and drop down ceiling is about to collapse in the weight room, pretty much leaking water everywhere for the past few months. The smell of mold is everywhere throughout the weight and cardio area. They say it lll be fixed soon, but it hasn’t been worked on besides buckets throughout everywhere. I don’t blame the staff here, I just blame corporate who refuses to do anything about it. Once my CONTRACT is up in two months I’m out. If you primarily weight lift or do functional fitness don’t come here, their functional fitness room is almost always full due to “classes”. Too bad, because The South Anchorage one is amazing.

I was honest about my goals about wanting to work out in a mentally healthy way, and AKClub or their staff really didn't hear me. As a customer, my needs/goals weren't held above their need to push for aesthetic 'fitness' appearances. I wanted a new standard of being fit for myself just off of my own encouragement and will.

I started this membership last January (2021), and its January (2022) now. I thought my membership contract was up because it was a 1 year commitment. At least half of those payments were late but were paid because I got laid off in april. Now, I have to pay for most of February because the Alaska Club "needs" a "30 day cancelation notice".

I was considering a month to month. However, in my opinion, the predatory business practices really communicate to me that I'm not the customer base that AkClub is offering services to.

The tanning beds are horrendous. Child care workers are are not hands on. They’re kinda just there and that’s about it. Don’t expect a diaper to be changed during those two hours. The facility is freezing which is okay while working out once warmed up but makes for a miserable time at the pool and while tanning.

I wish I would have gone through the review before purchasing a membership. the gym is decent as amenities go but the whole reason we chose this gym was for the daycare. The daycare staff were super inattentive to the children. Coming from a daycare background myself I was genuinely concerned about any child back there that was not of elementary school age. I won't be recommending anyone with younger kids attend here. I also asked if the teachers in the back were background checked and noone could answer me. Not impressed.

The Wasilla branch has its appeal, particularly the pools for kids. However, I am EXTREMELY disappointed that the Palmer branch was closed. I've emailed a few times about it with zero response. This seems effectivity like a breach of contract. I signed up due to the Palmer location. Its closure represents a large proportional reduction in available services, yet I pay the same amount. This is not acceptable. I hope others join me in sending a strong message by cancelling their membership.

My husband and I where super excited to tour the gym and make a change from my current club however after setting a meeting and moving my work schedule around as well as receiving confirmation that morning, I waited over 30 minutes and they where a no show.
Called several phone numbers listed with no luck at getting through to anyone. While waiting we sighed the Release waiver provided however the young man at the front desk yelled at me to go find my husband when he walked off to use the restroom Stating it was a liability that he was Unsupervised.

Horribly overpriced, the facility is falling apart, there are puddles of water in the weight room I'm multiple places. I'm paying nearly $200 a month to use the facility, you'd think they'd at least keep it in repair. The weight/resistance machines are off terribly and cardio machines are largely outdated or not working.

I attempted to cancel my contract via their military clause. Not only was I denied cancellation (illegally) I had my military service thrown back in my face saying I should have had more integrity when I signed up and I should finish my contract. I filed a complaint with the BBB and found many similar stories of treating other members the same way. Their cancellation policy could use some updating as they also claim that orders to basic training are not sufficient enough to cancel a membership and they absolutely are based on the SCRA.

I will never recommend them to anyone, it's absolutely absurd they've been getting away with this for years.

I've gone here for a while. Went there growing up. Now that there's other gyms in town my eyes have been opened to just how dirty and over priced the Alaska club is.

Their too focused on pushing memberships and not focused enough on providing value.

The structure of their gyms is not thought out for convient training, their daycare is so random on hours you can't count on getting a good afternoon workout.

Over all it's a mediocre gym that falls short in providing value. It's insane over priced and there's an add on for everything.

Not worth it. As an amendment to my review: I would have to say that it seems this company has an imbalance in its business structure. Not model but structure.

The focus is not retention. The sales staff is focused on feature over benefit but more than a lack of benefit focus it's a lack of searching for what is actually valuable to you customer.

This indicates that there may be a sales commission structure that's causing these issues coupled with an operations management crew that's falling short and a corporate absence that's responsible for letting the place run down. Possibly because of over extention on the overhead side due to an old facility and a declining in the experience of the crew and improper training.

The excitement of what the crew is even there for needs renewed and the business model needs a review on how memberships are structured. This wasilla location, at least, needs better leadership.

I really do like this place. Living in Alaska has its challenges and those challenges become a little nicer when a family can get a membership and go swimming in a very clean pool. It concerns me sometimes that seems to not be always being taken care of or upgraded. Sometimes that means the decline of a business, and we're surely hoping not. It's expensive to belong to this club, but to be able to swim all year round including negative temperatures helps the spirits of the kids. Adults too! Anyway, it's never too crowded, the who is open most of the time but the very expensive water slides and such don't ever work. There's always a problem somewhere and the first little kid that goes and lays a Tootsie roll in the water stops everybody from enjoying anything in the slide area. So it is hit and miss. Lots of workout opportunities, a few classes...all in all a nice place for the family.
