Rock climbing gym Gym

About the Club

Beta is the largest, full service indoor bouldering gym in Northern Arizona. We opened our state-of-the-art facility in the Fall of 2012 to provide the growing climbing community a place to train, socialize, and get fit. Our spacious facility was designed specifically for bouldering, meaning the majority of our climbing walls do not require ropes or any complex gear besides rock climbing shoes and a chalk bag.

Good place for kids or family. Great flat rate for the day, and helpful staff. Other climbers were very nice and helpful. Chill atmosphere, all skill levels were present.

Happened to be in town and was able to stop in for a quick bouldering session. Everything was clean, staff was friendly, routes were fun and had good variety. Can't really ask for more. Keep up the good work, hope to get to visit again someday.

I haven’t even been to the gym yet- called to get the 411 on local boulders and sport climbs. I’m a longtime employee of the industry so i have very high expectations for climbing gym employees. Chris absolutely exceeded those expectations. gave me all the info i wanted, asked questions, and ultimately got me 10x more psyched for my AZ trip. Thanks homie chris!

I have been going to beta for 5 years now and have only good things to say about it. Beta is a beautiful part of the flagstaff community. The owner’s love for the sport and the community is obvious in every aspect of the gym. From incredible staff to the top tier route setting, beta has it all.
The staff is kind and knowledgeable, they answer any questions I might have, help me with the climbs I am struggling on and always greet me with a smile. The gym itself is always clean and well maintained. The route setting is fun, unique and constantly being updated, so I never get bored of the same old climbs. They have a great variety of difficulties for climbers of all levels. The wide array of equipment in gym allows for any kind of workout, so I can always just come for a workout if you don’t want to go climbing.
All of this is offered at a very affordable price, with no sign up fees or cancellation fees. I have held a membership at many other flagstaff gyms and I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, it truly does not get better than beta bouldering gym. Do yourself a favor and get a membership here.

Our kids were going to Beta Bouldering for their kids non competitive team and they just loved it! We had to stop going for reasons totally unrelated to our experience. It was so neat to watch them learn a really cool skill AND it was something they could both do at the same time which was amazing for this bush momma! My kids are 9 and 6 and they both really loved it. It's totally worth the price for two hours a week. The program they have set up for these kids is great and the coaches are really awesome with the kids. It's a cool environment and you can tell the people who work here really love it. We highly recommend Beta Bouldering! It's a cool place for a birthday party too!

I love beta! The staff is so welcoming and fun. There are so many different varying routes at different difficulties. Overall a great climbing facility. They have a great deal for the semester and you get a free guest pass every month. You can’t beat beta.

There’s been a bit of drama with a few customers and the owner over the years. Some are made known publicly, others are not. Different scenarios + different situations. Each has their own story and perspective. With that being said the facilities + gym is nice with well set problems. day pass is a little expensive, but the monthly autopay membership shared with other people makes it more affordable. Sometimes it can be hard to find a group membership to join . Also as a heads up , you have to cancel your membership a full month ahead of time (not a day after) or you will get charged in full for the month. It would be nice if the guest pass given to members didn’t expire each month if not used. The other alternative in town for climbing is flagstaff climbing , which also has bouldering and rope climbing.

Small gym, so limited route selection. There were also a couple bare walls - not sure what was happening there - maybe they were resetting them.

For small kids, I would say this was a utopia - they were free to run around everywhere, with little to no supervision. In the 90 minutes I was there, there were 5 times where kids ran under either myself, or other climbers. Their parents weren't nearby, nor were the young ladies working there. Round and round they ran - what fun!

If you're an adult there to actually climb, I wouldn't recommend. Safety seemed like an afterthought. Both myself, and another climber had to abandon our routes, as a kid was meandering directly below, making it dangerous just hanging on - never mind trying to make the next move. After about 45 minutes, the staff started to follow the young kids around, telling them to walk, and watch out where they're going, but the 4-6 yr olds needed far more instruction than the ocassional nagging by staff.

If you have small kids, (and you can keep them under control), this might be a great gym. For an adult, I'd look elsewhere.

Visited this gym when we were on vacation in flagstaff. It's a very large space, lots of different walls. The front desk was accessible, and check in/day pass was easy. Rented shoes for a few bucks. My son is the climber, so I just sat and observed. What I observed was that this gym was very different from his "old school" gym back home. He was frustrated that many of the holds were dirty and full of chalk, he couldn't really figure out the routes without the traditional tape, and the wall and hold were kind of a different material.

It's a nice gym, and clearly popular, but it was also very big and busy, and it was hard to get a hold of someone who could even help us navigate a totally new gym. We felt a little lost. It's probably great for climbers used to more modern gyms, but if you're used to a certain kind of bouldering, check before you go.

Nice old school bouldering gym. A variety of wall angles including a nice overhung wall (pictured) and aggressive cave. Good floor padding and route tape for grades. Lots of crash pads for sale and for rent. Creative problems with a good variety of grades from V0-V10+. Worth the visit for sure.

We are here on vacation and we wanted to bring our girls to the gym to burn some energy. We called ahead of time to make sure it was family friendly, it’s not. As soon as my girls got their shoes on people in the gym had an issues with my girls being there. I tried to ignore it so my girls would enjoy the time but women and the person she was with made a comment about how β€œI am the kind of person who takes a baby to a move theater” and then loudly complained about my girls being there. So we left. $45 for 10 minutes. Don’t take your kids here.

An interesting space. Not my favorite "vacation" bouldering gym, I stopped in Flagstaff for just a night and came here because the other boulder gym in town is "members only" except for Wednesday, and alas it's Tuesday.

There are other reviews that talk about the holds being dirty, I've been to many gyms and the holds here are really chalky and a number are pretty greasy. They set on Mon/Wed but I'm not sure they do large section refreshes?? Maybe just 3-4 routes? Many gyms reset entire walls at a time, maybe they don't have enough setters? Honestly it only looks like there are 3 new routes up. My home gym refreshes our gym in a 6 week cycle with a new area fully refreshing every week and the holds being pressure washed between sets.

Apart from excess chalk, it's hard to read a significant number of the taping on the older/dusty routes, it's mono-color routes- but the tape is peeled and routes that use the wall top as a top/finish don't have clear indicators for the route color that's ending on the wall. I spent a lot of my time trying to see black vs blue vs purple holds to find my route as well as some difficulty with orange/red. Maybe a laminate tag with the tape on the wall top would help with those wall top finishes.

The walls here have a different texture, it's kinda like acrylic covered stucco? So it might have a little grip but the coating + chalk buildup does not give you much to smear on. It's not a walltopia walled gym.

Cool things I really liked: the wall to "top" on is thick and rounded so it gives a great hold for finishing. They have 2 cave areas which was cool, one has a really intense flat roof so the routes are really tricky when climbing out of the cave. There is also a less steep cave which is very tall and the routes make good use of this length. There's also a large number of overhanging and slightly overhung areas that give some great challenges. They have really nice fully padded floors although not 100% flat/level there are some low areas and changes in elevation. A final highlight is that they are open until 10 on most nights, this is really rad and I appreciate being able to climb later in the evening. Also good ventilation in this gym!

Front desk was also really nice and easy to check in. In my opinion 18$ day pass is a bit much for this gym. Maybe if I ever get back to Flagstaff I'd stop back- but if it's a Wednesday I would definitely try the other gym before this one.

The staff are super friendly, and the space has a cool set up but it is pretty dirty. The holds are greasy and coated in chalk, making even some of the easiest routes a real challenge. Definitely felt like climbing at an outdoor bouldering hotspot with the glassy holds. A pretty cool space, just needs a deep cleaning on the holds to make it more enjoyable.

Top notch place. I'm relatively new to climbing, only been at it for about 8 months, but I've been to quite a few gyms and Beta really stands out. Friendly and welcoming environment, regularly changing routes (they always make sure to accommodate beginning and less-talented climbers like myself with routes that are very manageable) and a STELLAR STAFF. Always really nice, helpful, and accommodating. I've sheepishly asked for advice on a route several times and they are always eager and happy to come give you tips, even demonstrating moves if it helps. More than that, they're all nuts about climbing themselves, so half the time you're there you'll end up climbing next to a staff member who is off-duty, and everything just feels like a nice little community instead of a business.

Passes, especially the group ones, are absurdly affordable. Bathrooms, water, a regular gym area, and a gear section that almost certainly has what you might need rounds out this gem of a gym.

The only (and I mean only; I wracked my brain trying to think of complaints) thing I would say they could work on is that some of the holds are showing their age and are quite worn down, making finding your footing difficult at times. But I imagine it's expensive to replace holds all the time, so I'm not 'holding' it against them. 10/10, would and will climb again.

Overall, a great place and you should absolutely come climbing with

Nice little gym for bouldering with a nice weights and stretching area. The setting was pretty good but alot of focus on strength over technique. The price is super affordable too at only $15 for a day pass. They have a drinking fountain and really friendly staff. My major complaint is with just how dirty it was. The whole gym had a thick layer of chalk on everything and half the holds have probably never been cleaned. If they just spent a day to clean the place up it would go along way. Over nice place

Great local indoor climbing/bouldering gym for Flagstaff! Would love to see a larger climbing facility in Flagstaff but there is limited commercial space and building to allow for this. For a gym this size, they try to maximize the building space and offer routes for beginners on up to advanced climbers, training areas and equipment for all levels, and they offer free classes for members such as yoga. Thank you Beta Bouldering for the kind staff too!

Awesome clean and big bouldering gym. I visited Flagstaff briefly for a conference and tried out both the Flagstaff Climbing Center downtown and Beta Bouldering. Beta is way better, yet somehow cheaper. In fact, in this case, Beta is Alpha (sorry, couldn't resist). The holds are either new or cleaned regularly, there aren't 10 pieces of tape on each hold, the mats are plush and continuous (no crevices to twist an ankle in), and there is a wide range of problems. They seem to set long and often reachy problems compared to my home gym, but that could be a good or bad thing depending on who you are (and may not be the way they set always). Also, they have a foosball table!
