I have been working out with Jessie Klein here doing functional patterns for the last 17 months and have been nothing but pleased with her coaching and encouragement. She is a physical therapist as well so she understands the body better than most personal trainers. If you have any kind of pain or any ailment really, this is the best personal trainer in Mesa and the entire East Valley.

I am a cancer survivor and have had 5 abdominal surgeries and years of harsh treatments. I can do sit ups again and I am truly in better shape than I have been in years thanks to Jessie. I used to do Crossfit and have worked with other trainers in the past, but I'm a total FP junkie now, my confidence is back, pain is almost non existent, and my stamina has improved dramatically. Highly recommend.

In 2021 the MRI of my right knee showed significant meniscus tear and joint inflammation. For years I tried Bikram Yoga, chiropractic care and regular workout to mitigate the damage. Finally in 2023 My partner Susanna and I discovered Functional Patterns and enrolled in the 10-week online program. I loved the concept and intention of Naudi’s genius invention from the start. I’ve found Functional Patterns and the Big Four Biomechanics training facility in 2023. I had started the FP 10-week online course and felt I needed someone’s help to execute the exercises better. Starting training with Tracy was the best decision I’ve ever made. I had been cycling through pain spurts in various areas of my body when getting into my 50’s…hip, lower back, ankle, shoulder, wrist pain…I kept the pain under control but overall, I could barely keep up with all the stretching, yoga, chiropractic care and other recovery programs I was doing. With Tracy’s help, Naudi’s Functional Patterns training system has changed my life. My workouts are now regenerative and strengthening at the same time. I’ve been training with Jessie twice a week for nearly a year now, and the results have been nothing short of transformative. My posture, gait, knee pain, and overall movement quality have improved significantly. Before Functional Patterns, my training routine revolved around traditional kettlebell and calisthenic workouts. I’ve since transitioned entirely to FP, and even though I train less frequently, I’ve gained muscle, move more efficiently, and feel better in my body than ever before.

FP/Big Four Biomechanics has been a life changer. I've been working with Jessie for 1.5 years now and my body has completely changed. This isn't your typical work out. I've been training with Jessie for the last year. I came from bodybuilding + powerlifting, and noticed my body wasn't recovering between workouts. A year later, and my body looks and feels completely different. Knee, back, and shoulder pain are gone, and I can stand for hours at a time with no discomfort. Jessie does a great job going beyond telling you what to do. My favorite part is her ability to guide my understanding, so I can make the distinction between healthy and unhealthy movement patterns. If you’re looking to find a long term solution for chronic back pain, you should definitely check out this gym! 3 years ago I came to FP AZ with a scoliosis diagnosis, and constant back pain. Now, I don’t have any more pain, my structure is getting more symmetrical, and I’m able to kickbox and hike for long hours with no back problem at all. Trust me once you start practicing FP, you’ll realize that it’s so worth it.

Life changing, Tracy and FP have changed the way I look at fitness forever. Training with Chris fixed my chronic low back pain, knee problems, and achilles tendonitis. I spent the better part of three years trying other treatments and methods with zero results, some even made it worse.

After suffering from chronic lower back pain from a bulging disc between my L4/L5, I went to 6 months of physical therapy that didn't really seem to make a difference. I’m currently a wrestler at Arizona State University and in 2022 I tore my pectoral muscle and it caused me to miss the 2023 season. I used to do the traditional lifts and I would constantly have back issues which led to many other issues with my body. After my surgery, I wanted to seek a new way to strengthen my body overall. I found FP AZ in 2023 and it has made a huge impact on my body and overall health. When I first met Tracy & Chris, they were very nice and genuine. It was my first time learning new techniques and using new muscles and it was very humbling. They help me tremendously and guide me through everything even when I mess up multiple times (lol). Been practicing here for almost 2 years now so I can say with confidence that the system works! I have degenerative disk disease in L5/S1 of my lower back along with a lifetime of athletic abuse on my body. Went to physical therapists and chiropractors with minimal improvement in pain. Was told that steroid injections are the only option. After training FP, recent x-rays have shown regeneration in my disks with no drugs or procedures. Everything improves when you improve posture, gait, and throwing mechanics!

Did the 6 month program with Chris and saw exceptional results in my back, posture and shoulders. Always had scapular winging and talked to physical therapists and trainers with no results. Been coming to Functional Patterns Arizona for about 6 months now and I have Never felt better. I was a gymnast for most of my life and have had several injuries. I don’t even know where to begin with how amazing Functional Patterns is! Beginning with the very first session I had, I knew I was hooked. Each session I have had with Tracy, helped to clear the dysfunction in my body, strengthened my underused muscles and made it possible to move fluidly without pain. There were parts of my body that I knew were dysfunctional, but she helped me to see that I needed to work on all of it to create a cohesive, functional form. I experienced the most pain in my left hip, where I have had two surgeries. Tracy was able to identify it and she spent many weeks helping me to strengthen the weak muscles, which gave the overused muscles a chance to move in a more streamlined manner. Overall, my body has never moved this fluidly and I look forward to seeing where my upcoming sessions will lead.

It has been easy to stay motivated because I could see and feel the changes so rapidly. Tracy is very sweet, patient and thoughtful. She is always thinking about what to work on next and she tailors sessions to fit your personal needs. She motivates you to push through your discomfort and once you do, you benefit from her wisdom.

I’ve been working out with Chris for years now. He not only helped me recover from my first back surgery but helped me prevent a second one. I can now run, throw, and lift in ways I thought I was “too old” to do anymore. For someone who had tried everything (from physical therapy to acupuncture and beyond) for pain relief and a return to normalcy, FP was the only thing that worked. I started with FP AZ and Tracy about one year postpartum. I injured my tailbone during childbirth and suffered with pain, unnecessarily, for that year. I tried PT and chiropractic care before FP. I couldn’t sit in the car for more than 30 minutes without pain or discomfort and my pelvis often felt unstable. Lifting my son in and out of his crib was difficult and caused back pain. In many ways I felt broken mentally and physically postpartum.
FP and Tracy have changed me. I feel strong. I take an active role in my child’s care without pain. I can be active with my son without pain. My posture has improved and my pelvis feels stable. I no longer stand with excess weight on the outsides of my feet. My shoe size has grown and my pants size is shrinking. I get positive comments about my muscle growth and physic changes. I can feel change in areas I have never felt with other exercises. I have mental clarity, improved mood, more stable moods and increased focus. I handle stress better than I have before. FP is never boring. Tracy is tough, knowledgeable and compassionate. She believes in me, pushes me and challenges me to reframe thoughts about the things I think I can’t do physically. My only regret is not starting sooner. Tracy and FP are helping me to put the pieces of myself back together, building me back better than before. Why suffer in pain? I found Functional Patterns and decided to pursue this journey because of lower back pain and knee pain and instability. I was practicing Functional Patterns on my own for some time up until I decided that I wanted to train with a FP Practitioner and went searching for one on the website, found Christopher Lackhan , and scheduled some training session with him back in Summer of 2020. I was able to train with him in NY for a couple of sessions before, unfortunately for me, he decided to make a move to AZ. In those couple of sessions, I learned so much more and open my eye to more details compared to what I learned on my own doing what was available. During those session I was able to make better changes to my structure and mechanics improving my scapular position, decompressed my lumbar spine, and improving my overall stability.

I had the chance to attend HBS Level 1 in Las Vegas, NV this year and decided I would link up with Chris again to get some more training in. I had the opportunity to work with Chris for a whole week, which was amazing. Chris is a great Functional Patterns trainer. He very knowledgeable on many techniques and giving you tools to work on. He has a great eye for details and using FP First principles for making changes with your structure, behavior, and helping you improved you standing, walking, running, and throwing.

I highly recommend any one to check out the FP Arizona facility and to go get some training with Chris or his colleague Tracy Yang, who I had the pleasure of meeting after she got back from HBS Level 2 in Las Vegas. Functional Patterns Arizona is a great facility with multiple FP Multi Plane Trainers, a curved treadmill, and all of the FP equipment and accessories. The Facility has a lot of space and high ceilings. Great work putting the facility together.

I have been teaching fitness for 30 years. I have had random aches pains and injuries over the years on all parts of my body. Some problems seemed to stay with me, other would come and go. I started working with Chris at FP Arizona July 2021. After a few sessions I noticed less pain and more body awareness than I had experienced from teaching fitness, being a gymnast, runner etc…
Chris always challenges me each session. We do motions and exercises that I have never seen or done.
They work! Some specific changes I have noticed
-neck and trap pain gone
-my lower back and glutes don’t hurt when I walk or run
-I can breathe easier and I didn’t even know I wasn’t breathing easy!
-I am more flexible without daily stretching ( I started an experiment after starting with Chris … I stopped doing my morning 10 minute stretching routine and the results feel so good. I don’t feel like I “have” to stretch daily.)
- I used to do hours of yoga and no doubt I feel so much better with this method! Haven’t done yoga for more than a year now
-my old injury from jr high track never bothers me anymore)
-my night time calf cramping has stopped almost completely
-I feel taller and have more core engagement

“I was introduced to Chris Lachlam two years ago through a friend's recommendation. About one year prior to starting with him, I had an accident skiing and tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus in two places and although I had made significant steps in my recovery I wasn’t satisfied with my progress overall and was looking to improve mobility and strength.

If I’m being completely honest I was a bit lost with the initial sessions -- the positions were a challenge to understand and it was wildly different from any other workout I had done in the past. Side note: I had trained with personal trainers at Equinox and elsewhere in the past so was much more familiar with traditional 1:1 personal training.

All of this said -- Chris knows what he’s doing and the philosophy behind Functional Patterns works. Over time, I made massive strides in mobility. The swelling in my knee which had persisted for 2 years began to reduce. I felt more confident in my movement, balance and strength.

Five months ago, on my last appointment with my surgeon, he was so impressed by the progress made, he asked for Chris’ info and wrote him a note and asked if he could recommend his patients to him.

I have been working with Chris for two years, both in person and online. Before my first session, I had a lot of pain and discomfort standing in one place for more than ten minutes.

By the end of the first session, I experienced about an 80% reduction in pain. Over the next few months, I saw a noticeable reduction of my anterior pelvic tilt.

Chris also helped me recover from a disc herniation, helping me regain mobility while reducing pain. Through FP, I feel more connected, having much more body awareness when walking or doing everyday movements.

Chris has kept me motivated and been patient despite the hurdles of online sessions. His training has made me optimistic that I can continue to be active as I age.
