Kids are allowed to kick other kids apparently. Don't know if its bad parenting, bad staff, or just bad kids, but there needs to be supervision and accountability.

This place had just what I needed, but not much more. There was not a wide selection of squat racks to choose from, as they only had two. However, the staff was extremely friendly and I was able to get the workout in that I needed.

From the moment we enrolled our daughter in the YMCA daycare, we knew we had found something special. As a parent of a child on the autism spectrum, I’ve learned to be extremely thoughtful and cautious about where I place my trust. I can say with complete confidence that this YMCA has exceeded our expectations in every way—not only meeting our daughter’s unique needs, but embracing her for exactly who she is and helping her thrive.
What stands out most is the genuine compassion, patience, and attentiveness of the staff. They didn’t just treat my daughter like another child in the classroom—they took time to understand her sensory preferences, how she communicates, what calms her, and what excites her. They asked thoughtful questions, adjusted routines to ease transitions, and always made her feel safe and included. They’ve made small but meaningful changes like visual cues, extra prep time, and gentle redirection strategies that have completely transformed her experience. Most importantly, they treated her with respect and kindness—never frustration or impatience.
The open communication with us as parents has also been a huge relief. We are kept in the loop about her daily progress, challenges, and wins. We feel included in her growth and supported every step of the way. Watching our daughter become more expressive, confident, and socially engaged has been an emotional and beautiful journey, and the YMCA has played a vital role in it.
But this YMCA isn’t just great for children on the spectrum—it’s great for all children. It fosters a spirit of community, acceptance, and emotional intelligence that benefits every kid. The environment is calm, structured, and safe, with consistent routines that help children feel secure. Activities are enriching, with an emphasis on learning through play, social connection, and building life skills. Kids are taught values like respect, empathy, and responsibility—not just in theory, but in everyday practice.
The culture here promotes genuine inclusivity. My daughter is not treated like an exception—she is part of a group, and her differences are acknowledged with understanding, not judgment. Other children learn to accept and include each other, and that’s something deeply powerful. It builds a generation that doesn’t just tolerate differences, but embraces them.
For any parent wondering if this YMCA is the right fit—especially if your child has special needs—my answer is a wholehearted yes. Your child will not just be accommodated—they’ll be seen, supported, and celebrated. I’m so grateful for the progress I’ve seen in my daughter. The care, love, and professionalism the staff has shown us is something I will never forget.

My daughter absolutely loved the TILT Camp program. She was able to gain so much experience in leadership opportunities. She really enjoyed getting to work with the early learners program, as well as the great outside speakers that came and spoke. She was also able to become CPR and First Aid Certified, as well as is now a certified Babysitter. Great program, and she can't wait to enroll for next summer.

I appreciate the availability of the Y in that it is accessible financially as well as physically. There are a lot of sports options out there but the Y is definitely a great option for those who can't afford expensive club teams but still want good coaching. The Y also feels like a good entry point for kids who aren't as familiar with a sport or haven't been playing their whole lives. It is less intimidating even though there are still kids who are amazing athletes. All athletes of all abilities feel very welcome.

Everyone here is friendly and helpful. The sports programs are great for kids that are interested in getting into a sport, or that want extra practice after their club season is over. We tried lots of beginner sports organizations before coming here, and this has been the best. The staff is awesome. Justin does a really good job getting information out through emails, and answering questions when you need help. Everyone at the front is always welcoming and nice.

Based on my experience with the Chandler YMCA’s Youth Recreational Basketball League:
Pros:
One indoor practice each week.
A nice reversible Jr Suns/Mercury jersey (although it's an additional $25 on top of the registration fee).
Cons:
Cost is higher than other recreational leagues in the area.
Awful sportsmanship and cheating from coaches is tolerated.
Rules regarding minimum playing time is not actually enforced.
Volunteer coaches are not given discount off of their child’s registration like most youth leagues.
Roster size can get excessive.

I am no longer attending the Y because they have no curriculum for kids. We were told they do yet my daughter has learned more in the last quarter at her current school than she did the entire last year there. Also, the communication is terrible. I was billed an extra month after canceling and I called countless times and was always told someone was going to call me back. Fred the front desk was very rude each time I called. Bethany never returned a phone call and neither did Gavin. I have an email where I communicated canceling all services with the Y and that did not matter to them. I will never recommend this facility to anyone.

Worst basketball league I’ve coached in, and I’ve coached all around the valley, very unprofessional in the way they handle issues, score keepers staying biased towards home teams, worst experience one can have in a “family friendly” league. Find a different league to put your children in.
Update:
Just the fact that this branch isn’t professional enough to respond to any of the reviews about this situation but respond to a random one star really shows the true professionalism of this branch.

This is not a safe environment for kids. My boyfriend and his team have gotten knifes pulled on them by parents from the opposing team, referees talking trash about them during the game, had their information leaked by score keepers, being harassed on instagram by those same score keepers and the ymca did nothing but disqualify his team for reacting (being frustrated and cussing as a teenager would do) when the ymca did NOTHING about those situations.

I have played basketball all around the valley for 12 years and this league is Absolutely biased, for two season we’ve been harassed by the YMCA. To workers at other YMCA’s making instagram videos of one of my teammates, by other scorekeepers making fake accounts to talk bad about us and stalk us, and to other workers making fake accounts and using our personal information against us, if u wanted your kid to have a good experience playing basketball, enroll them in a Aau team, don’t come to the YMCA, unless you want refs talking trash to kids, other teams pulling knifes out to threaten you, and workers using your personal information online,

never been involved with the YMCA before, but I signed my child up for a sports team recently and I really feel like the YMCA should have their stuff together better. No communication after registration. I had to call the branch to find about about team info, practice info on what was supposed to be the first day of the season. Game schedules not clearly communicated at all. One game even cancelled less than an hour before game time. not a single game this season has been played at our "home" branch". I'm pretty sure coach doesn't know the kids names and our last game is this week. There is no real instruction during practices, no real attempt to improve skills. My child is just happy to play which I respect is important, but it feels so haphazard, like everything is an afterthought. For the price, I feel it could be better

I am a long time member of this location (10 years). The staff have always been great and I like the facilities there. However, their current hours are horrible. Please go back to the facility hours before the pandemic. Updated: Since I posted this originally, the locations has shown no indication to adopting reasonable hours. They also increased rates (mine almost tripled in price). It is also almost impossible to find out how to cancel the membership. So I dropped my rating down to 1 star.

Staff is friendly and gym is great. Can't say the same for childcare. The expectation of a childcare facility is that they keep your child safe while you go to work, whereas the director Alyssa here seems to think that responsibility falls on the children themselves. I would imagine my kid being sent home from grade school for behavioral infractions but not daycare. If someone tells me my kid is "creating an unsafe environment" he better have flies swarming around him while chanting in ancient egyptian, not doing typical four year old stuff.

Thank you for the owners response to my earlier critical review.
Though I haven't personally inquired, I appreciate the direct rebuttal to my statements and I certainly can't say otherwise unless I come in myself. I know the Y has traditionally been helpful to community around it and I'm glad to see that tradition and culture continue. I will have to come and visit you in the summer!
Previous 3 star review:
A bit surprised that it's almost as expensive (for me) to get a membership there as it would be at Lifetime Fitness. I mean, I'm comparing and joining the Y is about $100 and joining Lifetime is $120......you'd expect better from the YMCA. Maybe they don't get funding or subsidies like they used to? Sad. Still, the gym looks great and it is a bit cheaper....not sure yet what I'll do in the end.

I signed my daughter up for swim classes. We completed the first week with the group class mon-thur. Second week my daughter was extremely sick with pneumonia and we could not attend. I spoke with the swim director Zoe about making up the class, even offered a dr note. She pretty much told me she could only makeup 2 classes out of 4. I asked if I enrolled in another session if she would lower the cost she said no. Reason being if she made an exception for us then she would have to make an exception for every kid who misses class. Really disappointed in the way this was handled.
I also took my daughter to a Saturday tumbling class. I dropped her off in the kids care for the 915 class. When I finished my work out I came back they said she was the only one so they decided not to do the class. My daughter was really excited to go to this class and ended up doing nothing for 45 min.

I've been here for a while now and it's been a good experience until today.
First, let me say that everyone is very, VERY, nice. Parking isn't bad and there is even some covered parking.
It's not busy(unlike other places I've been to that are jam packed) from 8-10:30(the time I'm there) and everything is clean and nice.
So everything was going nice. Today, I tried to sign my daughter up for this Friday's date night. You get to drop your kids off and they do activities. I already told my daughter about it and now I've got to figure out how to tell her it's not happening.
The reason? They cut it off at 25 kids and it's full. Now if that's where the story ended I wouldn't have given it a second thought. It was what it is and I didn't sign up in time. My fault. .
But, when I asked to sign up at the front counter I was told by the super nice guy there that it was full but just ask the lady who runs the child care center and see if she will make an exception. Now maybe I read him wrong but it seemed to me like it would not be a big deal. I think most of us have been in that situation before. Someone tells you something might happen and they say it like it's no big deal or they say it like it probably won't happen but ask anyway. Again, to me it came across as no big deal and again maybe I read him wrong.
So I go back to the lady in charge and I mention Friday night. I never said they told me to ask about making an exception I just mentioned signing up. She told me no it was full and that was pretty much it.
So what am I suppose to think? Maybe I'm wrong but I take that stuff personally. Because we all know darn well they could take one more kid. We all know if it was a personal friend or someone close they would have made the exception. It makes me think they play favorites. I'm just be honest with how I feel. How would you, as a customer feel?
Maybe I'm wrong? And I know what some of you will say. I should have signed up sooner. I agree. But I was sick a lot of last week and I had a surgery this week. So it's not like I had a ton of time and it wasn't at the front of my mind.
So overall the place has been nice but I'll probably be casually looking for a new place. I know how I am and this will eat at me every time I come here now and it'll tick me off. It's an issue I have.
Again, let me be very clear, everyone is super nice here.

We have been with Chandler Y as family member for three years. We recently feel that they offer less value than before. We wish there will be more group classes in the evenings, and the weekends. There used to be good classes, such as Insanity, Active class in the evenings, and on the weekends. Now they don't offer them any more. Also there needs to be some improvements on the facilities, there is no hot running water in the shower in the evening.

The Pre-School program is the worst thing that I have ever experienced. Where do I begin? Easy, Pat Berry is the most incompetent, rudest, most unprofessional person in the business. Pat Berry does not respond to phone calls and she pushes the blame on everyone else even though she insists on doing everything herself. This woman needs to be FIRED, but YMCA protects her because the people above her don’t want to deal with complaints. She goes into the children’s class to sing with them for 2 minutes and she acts as if she is Mother Theresa. Do not put your kid in the program. PAT BERRY should be fired and never be able to run a program ever again. She is horrible and is a shame to the childcare profession.
