This gym is an awesome experience. I joined the gym when I was in high-school and Mr. Chavez taught us discipline while being the most compassionate trainer i've met. You won't find a better coach in the valley.

Great place to learn the basics of boxing or become a fighter. I have been a member since 2021 and love the environment as well as the foundations mission. All the trainers are skilled, friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend 10/10.

I have my 8 year old training to be prepared for bullies which I'm not a fan of! After my kid was hit in the head with a metal water bottle I decided to take action! Self defence. Glad I found Coach Chavez. Blessed to have found coach Chavez. Thank you for training my boy coach Chavez🙏 ✝️CHAVEZ BOXING 🥊

This review is long overdue, but I guess now is better than never! I come from a traditional martial arts background (Karate, Taekwondo, Aikido, and Tae Soo Do/Hwa Rang Do). I'm also a U.S. Army combat veteran. So I thought I knew a thing or two about hand-to-hand combat.
Well, to make a long story short, after going separate ways from the martial arts academy I called home for around 12 years, I took a little hiatus from martial arts. After a while, I started missing the training, workouts, challenges, and camaraderie.
I was also in a bit of a dark place at the time. But this time, I wanted to try something new. Something that was completely foreign to me and way outside of my comfort zone. I was always curious and fascinated about boxing and was a huge Mike Tyson fan growing up. So I figured, what better way to start fresh and get out of my comfort zone than to join a boxing gym?
After doing a lot of research on some local boxing gyms, communicating back and forth with Coach Chavez via email for a while and dabbling, I finally made the move and decided to give it a try. And man, am I glad I did!
For those that don't know, boxing is a completely different ballgame from traditional martial arts. Yes, there are only four basic punches (jab, cross, hook, and uppercut). So I wrongfully assumed it would be simple and easy. Boy, was I wrong! Not only is boxing challenging and physically demanding, but it's also fun and life changing!
For starters, it's very practical and effective. I'm impressed by the simplicity, footwork, head movement, the basic stance, learning how to attack and defend while not telegraphing your techniques, and using the least amount of movement to get the desired result, etc. It all just makes sense to me like nothing else has. And I've never looked back since and have become a bit obsessed with the sport!
But it doesn't matter how great boxing is if you don't have a great coach to teach you and provide a welcoming gym environment! And that's where Coach Chavez stands out. He's been doing this for decades now, and it shows!
At the time of this writing, I train one-on-one with him three days a week and have been for a little while now. And I absolutely love it! I've found that inner warrior in me again. I've pretty much given up drinking, have lost a lot of weight, I've become more passionate about my health and physical fitness, and I've become a part of a great community of people and something greater than myself. Everyone there has been very friendly and welcoming. I've even made some new friends! I just love it and look forward to going each time, even though it's a little bit of a drive for me.
Coach Chavez is amazing and I can't say enough good things about him. Coach Kelly, who is also usually there during my sessions with Coach Chavez, has been a huge help to me as well. These are just great people who care and really take an interest in your training and personal development...inside and outside of the ring! This place is awesome and I'm honored to be a part of it!
In short, I cannot recommend Chavez Boxing Gym enough! Highly recommended!

I met Coach Pete at Chavez Boxing and got to observe him training others. Friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Having coached for 15 years myself here up in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, I can say, in my opinion, that this is the gym to learn how to box in Phoenix, Arizona. I look forward to coming back for some training.

From the moment you step through the door of Chavez Boxing Gym, you will soon realize you are stepping into a real deal, authentic boxing gym. This is not a gym that teaches “boxing-inspired workouts.” It is an original amongst many phonies. However, do not let its authenticity intimidate you. No matter your fitness goals, it is a place where you are welcome with no pressure to compete or climb in the ring. It is simply one of the last great places to learn the sweet science of Boxing without getting hurt. You can experience up to your comfort level at Chavez Boxing without pressure or empty promises. Coach Chavez and his team have decades of experience and are all experienced boxers. The philosophy is creating a family environment, and from day one to day 5000, you are part of the Chavez Boxing Family. The team takes the time to greet you, and all will answer questions to anyone who asks. The love is present in what they do here, and it is an exceptional place that welcomes any fitness or experience level to grow, achieve, and exceed their goals in a safe, caring gym.

I cannot say enough exceptional things about this gym. I had never taken a boxing lesson in my life, but Coach Chavez was nothing but patient. Don't get me wrong; he was incredibly intimidating at first (he has a reputation to maintain hahahah). However, Chavez Boxing Gym has become my unconventional second home. The gym's culture of support is pervasive, from cheering me on when I get my butt kicked sparring to surprising me with cupcakes on my birthday. Coach's attitude of respect and grit is infectious. Even the 50-year-old clients abide by the harsh "yes Coach, no Coach" vernacular.
Apart from the culture, I can attest that my fitness and boxing technique has exponentially improved as well. Two years ago, I walked in not knowing the difference between a jab and a hook, but I now comfortably spar and throw combos on mitts. I can guarantee that lessons at Chavez Boxing Gym will not be easy. They challenge you, making you a more confident boxer and more disciplined human.

Been going here for 4 1/2 years and I never thought I’d make it this far and be this good and in this shape! When I started I was skinny, completely out of shape and had never boxed before. I was intimidated going in because I was so inexperienced and couldn’t go thirty seconds without getting winded, let alone make it a round in sparring (I now spar every week and am prepping for my first fight).
When I first came thru the doors I thought they might turn me away but immediately that all changed when I saw how loving and hard working everyone is and how much time the Coaches spend with every client, regardless of their experience; everyone is welcome here! In fact Coach Jesse just trained my right arm only today after I injured my left arm haha love it here.
All in all, Coach Chavez and this boxing gym changed my life when I needed it the most and I will probably never stop boxing now. This is now my favorite place in Phoenix.

Gym is commercial, coach doesn’t focus on fighters and no one here has experience but the coaches themselves. Mix martial arts should be something worth teaching well rather than trying to make profit. Do better for your fighters.

Affordable. Customizable. Effective.
I've been attending Chavez Boxing Gym for 8 months, training 3x a week in 1-on-1 sessions. I work with two coaches, Pete the owner and Adam aka Coach Kelly, a long-time client turned trainer/coach. I knew nothing of boxing when I began, having never even seen a fight on TV. I was nervous, intimidated, and certain I'd try it once and be too chicken to return. However, after my first session, despite feeling entirely uncoordinated and totally exhausted, I knew I had landed in the right place. Sure, the workout was hard (possibly the hardest I've ever endured) and the mental challenge even greater (the "chess of athletics"), BUT what hooked me was the warmth of the community inside. The coaches are patient and skilled. The fighters, friendly and welcoming. And the other more casual clients, genuinely supportive of your journey. Coach Pete has dedicated his life to the sport and his community and this gym is a direct reflection of all he embodies.
Bonus: by coming here, you get to support a local business with a mission!
*Oh, and I've lost 20lbs and shaved 2 minutes off my mile!

I’ve been coming here for 5 weeks and every session I have with coach makes me feel like I’m getting stronger, wiser, tougher, and just better in general. Chavez Boxing gym is for people who want to strive for that extra 1% during every workout. Coach has a big heart for his clients and the community. His youth foundation is a shining example of how to influence young minds to work harder and enjoy healthy practices.

I have been to every well known boxing gym in the state of Arizona and Chavez boxing gym is definitely in the top for great places to learn boxing! It is spotless and smells clean! Chavez works one on one with his students and gets in there and spars with them as well. He teaches the basic fundamentals for new students which many coaches fail to do. This basic foundation lays the success for strong, skilled fighters. I recommend this place to anyone looking to start from scratch, tune up your skills or prepare to compete on an amateur or professional level! Great Place for sure!

I am a member of this gym and proud of it!!! I been here about two years and the coaches and members are awesome!! I get a home like feeling every time I train here. The vibes here are great and I love to clown around with my coach... everyone in this gym has a great sense of humor. Anyone saying otherwise is full of crap!!! Stop being haters and posting bad stuff that’s not true about this gym or the coaches. If u can’t follow the rules or comply with directions then don’t join easy as that. Over all I will forever be at this gym until my body gives out.

Coach Chavez runs a non profit foundation for youth and he also does one on one boxing training separate from his foundation. Coach Chavez has been training my two boys (10 & 8 years old) and myself for the last five months one on one. He has been fantastic with my two boys and with me. My boys and I each train for thirty minute periods a couple times a week. Coach Chavez is completely focused on who he is training for that thirty minutes. He knows when to push, when to pull back and is great with kids. Whether you have been boxing for years or just starting out I would highly recommend talking to Coach Chavez.
