This is fantastic gym with great people who are welcoming and support each other.
I (53 year old) started going to Free Range Crossfit a couple of years ago when I realized I'd gained a lot of weight during Covid-19 and was really unhealthy at around 300 pounds. I've since lost 50 - 60 pounds and am feeling strong.
The owner and coach, Andrew, is personable, encouraging and great at modifying exercises to get people started where they're at and help them progress. The workouts will make you wear you out and leave you happily sore. If you stick with the systematic training you'll quickly notice benefits. If you're looking for a Crossfit gym Free Range is a great option.

Highly, highly recommend, especially for people who are just getting in to working out. There are a range of levels represented and everyone is supportive and helpful if you have a question or need help doing something. There are a core group of friendly regulars, so you can tell there's a solid community in this place. Andrew is great and will help you at whatever level you are. If you are looking for a structured workout and judgment-free place, this is it! Prices are also very reasonable.

Free Range Crossfit gym is the best! I started a few months back as a complete beginner and felt comfortable right from the start. Andrew is a great coach, he's helped me learn without getting hurt and has been super encouraging, pushing me to try new things and give it my best. I've surprised myself with my progress! The group of guys and gals that work out here are super welcoming, everyone has helped me learn and made me feel comfortable. Definitely give this gym a try, you won't be disappointed!

This gym is the best I've ever gone to. I've tried a couple, and I get more out of the workouts, and feel healthier and safer here than anywhere else. Andrew runs it great, and is always super friendly. The workouts are designed well, and there is always an alternative exercise if you don't feel confident doing something.
My wife and I have always said Andrew is like a physical therapist. He always has a good stretch, workout, or remedy for any injury. All the other members of the gym are fun to workout with, as they're from all walks of life. Unfortuneately, I've had to stop due to being too far, but I hope to find another gym like this one.

This is a great box with a welcoming owner in Andrew and a group of down to earth folks who are willing to help anyone on any movement. The classes are challenging but Andrew helps modify any workout if you are just getting into classes. I love that they have a mid day workout which you can do on a lunch break. The facility is clean and has a shower. Would highly recommend this gym.

This box is awesome. The workouts are challenging, varied and fun in the group environment. Truly all skill levels are welcomed and supported. Coach Butters has a real heart for coaching and will modify workouts as needed for any past injuries. I highly recommend Free Range CF.

Been doing Crossfit since 2019 and have been going to Free Range Crossfit for nearly a full year. I went from regressing to being unable to do a single pushup fresh out of the COVID era and slightly overweight to being in better shape than I was pre-COVID, deadlifting more than my bodyweight and 35 lbs lighter. Andrew Butters is a great coach who is very supportive and extremely knowledgeable of helping you get to your fitness goals. Best Crossfit box I have ever been to, hands down.

Was visiting Phoenix for work and dropped in at free range for much needed pre-work workouts. Andrew and the AM regulars were really welcoming, and the workouts were great. Will be back when i come visit again!

I visited Free Range for a week during a trip to Phoenix around Thanksgiving. Andrew employs a challenging and varied programming, but thanks to his coaching you never feel out of your depth or overwhelmed. This is my go-to gym whenever I'm in the area. Thanks Andrew!

I have been a member of this gym for about 4 months. The coaches here are awesome! They make sure you have scaling options and make sure you know proper form in whatever variation you are doing. They emphasize good form and would prefer you scale or stick with lighter weight so that form is not compromised so you can be a long term athlete. They work around injuries and give tips on stretches or drill you can do.
The work outs kick your butt each and every time (in a good way)! If you've been thinking about trying crossfit, this is the gym to try it at!

I was hesitant to come here because of a shoulder injury but the staff was awesome. They keep my injury in mind and my shoulder felt better than it did before. The highlight of my day is going there. This place has the best coaches that are caring and thorough with their cues. They really made you feel like part of the team by calling you by your name, asking about your day and getting to know you. They are big about getting you introduced to the other crossfitters, making sure your form is right and having fun.

Checked this gym out in 2013 when I moved here and have been a member ever since. From the moment I stepped in, I could tell something was different about this gym from other Crossfit gyms in the area. It would take a while to learn, but what was different is that the Head Coach and owner of the gym has developed a really awesome community of people around the central idea of Crossfit with his own flavor of coaching. Matt's style of coaching is unique and will you keep you wanting to learn, do, try and practice more and Matt will be the first one to indulge your fitness goals and provide feedback and suggestions for training tips.

If you are dropping in from another affiliate (or wanting to find an excellent CrossFit box), this place is a must-try. Not only they are excellent coaches, they are very friendly it doesn't feel like you're just visiting. Good WOD and coaches are hands-on. Members seems to be welcoming too which makes them a good community. Highly recommended!!

This is an awesome gym. The people were super friendly and motivated. I had a great time rocking Yokes with Matt under the sun and trying to do muscle ups with Mike and Sean teaching me how to. They were very helpful. Anybody that wants to work out in the Phoenix area should definitely go there. They won't be disappointed.

This is the best CrossFit gym I've been to in the Phoenix area. I've tried many and either the trainers were to off putting or the gym was very lack luster or no one seemed to care. The owner (Matt) takes time with each person to perfect the proper movements and knows how and when to scale workouts accordingly for newcomers as well as seasoned CrossFit athletes. I cannot recommend a better gym. If you're in the area, definitely think of this as a contender for your next Gym.
