I am here today because something happened to my mother something that should never happen to any human being anywhere under any circumstances

My mother walked into lifetime fitness in distress. Not casually. Not out of convenience. She was experiencing a medical emergency. She does not have a gallbladder and when she needs the restroom, she needs it immediately. She pleaded – begged – for help. She asked to use the bathroom numerous times that was clean, open, available, and only a few feet away.

And the front desk staff denied her

Not because it was broken. Not because it was unsafe. But because of one cold in flexible phrase: “You’re not a member, it’s for members only.”

That decision-the gym’s-decision, forced my mother to walk back to her car in severe pain, humiliated and desperate. An adult. A grandmother. A human being who deserved basic dignity and compassion.

This wasn’t just a policy issue. This was a moral failure

Policies exist to support people not to dehumanize them. And when a policy prevents staff from making a humane choice in an emergency, that policy is broken. When empathy is pushed aside in favor of a role that costs nothing to bend, that is a failure of leadership.

I want you to hear this clearly: no business should ever turn away someone having a medical emergency. Not a gym. Not a store. Not anywhere.

If staff cannot recognize distress, if their training encourages rigidity over compassion, then this incident is not a mistake. It is a warning sign. A warning sign that something deeply wrong has been normalized here.

I understand the concept of membership. I understand protecting facilities. But what I do not understand and will not accept is a situation where a woman in pain is treated as an inconvenience instead of a person.

My mother asked for help
The staff at the gym had the power to help her.
They chose not to.

And the consequences were physically, painful, emotionally humiliating, and completely avoidable.

I expect acknowledgment. I expect accountability. And I expect that their policies and employee training will be corrected so that no one else will ever be put through with my mother endured.

Because at the end of the day, this is simple: human decency should NEVER require a membership.

my grandmother came into this location during a medical emergency and just needed to use the restroom due to literally lacking a gallbladder. she was desperate and in pain. she was turned away. this is absolutely ridiculous and unforgivable. where is your compassion????? absolutely appalling. shame on you all.

Lifetime Fitness is practicing age discrimination by limiting the hours for Silver Sneakers members. Mountain Side Fitness does not limit the hours for members over 65. We used to be members, but now go to Mountain side Fitness. Shame on Lifetime Fitness!!

I love my water aerobics. I wish you could get approval to remove the ropes for one hour during our class . It's difficult for seniors with hip and knee problems to climb over or use the steps.

Clean and up to date equipment. Super friendly staff, and great child care area. We chose this gym mainly because of the childcare, others can't even come close to it!
Pricier than other gyms, but you definitely get what you pay for.
2024 update: it has become very crowded here now as more people join the gym. They continue to increase pricing because of this.
2025 update: the gym has remained quite busy. They've finally updated some old broken down equipment, and added a cold plunge.

I had a very good experience coming to this gym. The facilities are very nice and the atmosphere is exactly what I want in a gym. The customer service is great! I always feel welcome whenever I ask any questions, specifically when asking Kaitlin questions. As someone who is going to school to become a therapist, her customer service skills model exactly what I'm learning in my classes. On top of that, her towels are always nicely stocked and mirrors always look good!

We joined lifetime about a month ago. We liked the pool because we have kids. Unfortunately about two weeks into us being members they closed the outside pool to kids all days besides Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We were not informed about this upon signing up. Now today, a month into being members we are informed that the outside pool will be closed to those under 12 until the spring. So now I’m paying $450 a month to use the small inside pool. Makes no sense. And the slides will only be open during specific times on Saturday and Sunday.
So incase you’re here for the pool. Don’t bother :)

I will change this to 5 stars on one condition....

Everything was such an amazing experience with the tour and the sign up. But...

You guys make so much money off of your customers. You guys have GOT to invest in more/newer equipment. You dont need 400 barbell racks. But what you do need is more than 1 gosh darn leg extension machine. What you do need is a back/glute extension machine, more than 2 smith machines, and better equipment for chest day. If you look up Absolute Recomp in Fort Worth, TX and see what kind of machines they have, that would do your customers so proud. That is the gym we came from. My husband and I pay an absurd amount of money, and the only thing we use is the equipment upstairs. But I find myself constantly fighting with people to get to equipment and leaving completely defeated because I can't get a good pump....

Also, impressions are absolutely everything. We expect people to look and act the part that work at high class gyms like this. This might sound cruel, but it is absolutely true. Just keep that in mind....

I inquired about prices and tour scheduling, and was met with an unsmiling/unwelcoming lady at the front. First impressions are crucial, and I felt awkward talking about amenities. It's a beautiful place, but it lacks the customer service for me to join at the rate they charge.

It was alright at best, they offer a lot of certain machines (squat racks or anything cardio related) but then they have like 1 or 2 of something else (functional trainers or bench press racks) On top of that I have had an experience with an old man in the past and he complained to me how I was taking forever on the machine (which no one was waiting or asked me) and he made a big deal about it. It was good but, I’m going somewhere else and saving up my money.

Not Worth the Money – We’re Leaving

We were paying almost $300 a month for this “country club” experience, and they don’t allow any outside food or drink anywhere on the property—not even for families who spend hours here with young kids. We’re often there for 5+ hours and expected to either let our kids go hungry or spend an extra $50+ a day on their overpriced café food. It’s ridiculous.

Management is terrible—unhelpful and disconnected from the needs of actual families. While most of the Kids Academy staff is phenomenal, there are a few newer employees who are flat-out rude to the children and clearly not a good fit.

The gym is always packed, the machines and massage chairs are never available, and somehow the prices keep going up while the experience keeps going down.

We’re done. Planet Fitness or EOS is a better deal, and at least they don’t pretend to be something they’re not. Lifetime might call itself a luxury club, but it’s out of touch and completely overrated.

Absolute scumbags. Cancelled my account in June and yet charged me in July. Then when asking for the money back. Was given the run around until the dude at the front desk told me there’s a new rule in which you have to give 30 days notice. Wasn’t the case when I began my membership. Definitely go elsewhere. EOS is $20 a month for all the same amenities.

My husband and I had a terrible experience with the front desk. We came in just to look at the gym mainly the child care. There’s a lady at the front with short hair that was extremely rude. Really snobby in her responses. I’m not sure how many people work there but I feel like there should be more than 1 person to give a tour. We had got a baby sitter so we could walk through and get a membership and her only option was for us to come back another time with an appointment. I’m sure she must not have any experience with kids.
This was honestly the only time we have had a sitter because we don’t have family here in Arizona. Really really turned off by her customer service. They should really reconsider who they have at the front desk..

This is the only real option for west . If you look in the indoor hot tubs they tiling is molding and grossly needs to be updated. Generally the lap pools whould few degrees cooler but its luke warm. Air quality isn't that great either
When you enter or leave, you have a 30% chance the front desk will speak. Most of the employees come off as "fake friendly"; i know it sounds petty to complain about but when you come into to gym with all your effort this is just more resistance you don't need to battle through. I really do love avondale but people seem really miserable here

Cleanliness of the locker rooms and pool area is very bad. Every locker has dirt, hair, and other specks in it. The steam room is extremely dirty with dirt and used towels laying on the ground.. also people like to spit on the ground in the steam room when they are in there?! Gross! Every time I go into the jacuzzi there is a layer of sediment on the bottom that I step on… it would be nice if they drained and cleaned it regularly especially considering they are no longer 24 hours and have time to deep clean it.

Gym equipment is fine. Some weights were missing on the racks, some people do not return their equipment when they are done. Other than that, there’s quite a bit of space and variety of machines to choose from.

I’ve been a member at various lifetime fitness clubs over the years including this one. This one has really gone downhill in quality since I first visited this club around a decade ago. To people considering spending the money on a membership at Lifetime I would look at a different location.

As someone who only needed a one-month pass while traveling, I made sure to check Life Time’s termination policy before signing up. Unfortunately, despite following their stated process, I still had to go through an unnecessary back-and-forth with Account Services just to cancel.

When I inquired at the club, I was told to cancel on a specific day. But when I contacted Life Time Account Services, they tried to extend my membership an extra month—until I pushed back. Luckily, I stayed on top of the policy and made sure their actions aligned with what was actually written. Had I not done that, I would have been unfairly charged for another month.

On top of that, I was supposed to receive a 20% discount at the café during my first month, but I was charged full price on multiple transactions and am still waiting for a credit. These kinds of inconsistencies make it difficult to trust the process.

That being said, the club itself had exactly what I needed during my time there. The front desk staff at Palm Valley was great—they were helpful and answered all my questions during my visits. Unfortunately, the experience with Account Services left a bad impression.

This type of behavior isn't unique to Life Time—I’ve had a similar experience with EOS Fitness in the past, and it seems to be an industry-wide issue. I strongly encourage Life Time "Corporate" to train all staff on clear, consistent cancellation policies and to comply with the FTC’s “Click-to-Cancel” Rule, which requires companies to make cancellations as easy as sign-ups (Customers must make businesses accountable).

For anyone signing up for a gym membership—always read the termination policy yourself and compare it to what staff tells you. If something doesn’t add up, hold them accountable.

I have been a member since 2009. I have off and on used the family locker room when no one else is there. Against the rules I know! Today January 1st NO ONE was in the locker room. As I was leaving an 18 year old or less employee made sure I knew that the locker room was for members with children only and then arrogantly told me pack my bag and take it to the other locker room. Let me say that I'm at least 50+ years older than this young lady and have never seen her or the woman working at the front desk in the 16 years I've been coming here. Perhaps customer service training is necessary. I was wrong being in the EMPTY locker room but the disrespectful attitude is beyond necessary.

Been a member since Day 1. For a premium gym they have steadily declined in their service / monthly fee. (1) reduced from 24/7 to now 4 am -12. Now including holiday hours for Halloween, really. (2) overall cleanliness of locker room / showers poor less about staff; more about members leaving towels in shower, on floor,… (3) uptime of pools due to maintenance issues, poor chemical control, and heater failures. Consistently a problem every year and when down - down for lengthy period (4) steadily raised prices on monthly membership. Staff generally helpful and friendly. Seems that lack the capability/leadership to run a premium service. In summary service offering/availability decreasing while costs going up. We are actively looking at alternatives

Lifetime at Palm Valley is absolutely the worse run Lifetime facility in the valley. Items are constantly broken and the time to repair is long, if at all. An example is the apple readers to check-in people at the front deck were removed because they were broken and were not going to be replaced. The readers have no moving parts. Two readers couldn't possibly break at the same time. They were removed because they didn't want to pay the fee. The lack of employees means the locker rooms are always dirty. The mens steam room is always broken. There is broken exercise equipment thats been broken for years. Running a gym on a shoestring budget and charging the members $150 a month is stupidity. If you join Lifetime, avoid Palm Valley. I've been a member since 2005 and have quit because of this location. It used to be a nice place.

I have been a member of this lifetime for years and this place is worse by the day. 90% of the things the biggest being the usually works one day out of a seven day week. It seems like every time you tell the front desk about the issue they say the exact same thing that they’re right Man just got here, but this is almost a six month billing issue or correct. Over the past seven years I’ve seen the price 5% the hours of operation have been cut down. Meanwhile, there’s been no improvements to the gym. The average person will be better off taking their money to fitness EOS LA fitness mountain fitness anywhere with Palm Valley Lifetime Fitness. I have reached out to the general manager. I have reached out to the manager on site, the front desk, maintenance people, and we still cannot get anything fixed in this gym so with the average membership being well over $100 Why can’t the members get what they’re paying for?

REVISION: January 2024 - Still a very nice place BUT, they severely cut the hours for those of us who are on the Senior programs. I paid extra to join this club, and typically would go early morning or late afternoon. The new 9 AM to 3 PM hours just do not fit with my work schedule. So sad to have to cancel membership and go elsewhere. Perhaps they just don't want us old folks hanging out, and rather have a younger crowd image. I sympathize with any others like me who are in the same situation. Very unfortunate.

Cleanest locker rooms, good amenities for both workout and de-stressing. Can be very busy mid morning and mid afternoon, but so far have had no issues getting a routine done in a timely manner. Staff appears always willing to help with instruction, giving information and setting up reservations.

To be clear: These five stars are especially for Paul your current front desk person.

I have been a member of this gym for many, many years, and I have seen many a good individual come and go and also suffered through the frosty ignorance of some front desk characters.

I sincerely trust that Lifetime Fitness realizes and acknowledges how important to its image and first impression the person at the front desk really is.

Paul is a gem and a genuinely naturally social and kind individual, and I would love to know that my very expensive membership (and I have been a senior for many years without any discount here) is applied to those invaluable individuals who are the key to your success.

The human side of the 'deal' should never be underestimated by any corporate entity.

I have been a lifetime member with my family for nearly 12 years now. During this time I have come to consider the Lifetime staff like family and I must say that they treat me and my family as such. Lifetime is just not a Gym,, it is a life experience as it has a lot more than just exercise equipment. Some people may think it’s pricey but you must remember you get what you pay for; towels, shampoo, body wash, razors and shaving cream, with all the amenities of a more expensive spa such as Jacuzzi, steam room, and dry sauna. There is also a café and a life spa for nails, hair and massage. They just finished a new business area for those who balance work life time by working at the gym. This area includes well lit hightop tables with stools and personal lights for people to work by. It also serves as a place for students who come to Lifetime to work out
or as an afterschool alternative. All I can say is you must visit to figure out why the experience is definitely worth the cost and why I and my family highly recommend Palm Valley Lifetime as your gym of choice.

The sales girl was not pushing for sales and was a pleasure to talk with. The monthly is high but what you get for it is while worth it. I pay a considerable amount more for each individual activity like $180 month for rock climbing, $145 month for yoga, $45 month for gym and a fee for pool. Lifetime fitness covers all that and more. It really is a club not just a gym.

Recently had a training session with Regan at Lifetime Fitness. His focus was on my complaint of back pain and how to get my body in balance. He quickly assessed my weakness and helped me understand what to build up to alleviate pain. I had minimal muscle soreness at the 48 hr mark, and my back pain was much improved. I was truly shocked as I have been going to PT for over 2 months with no improvement. His passion was contagious, and I feel better and have better mobility. Sticking with this guy!Thank you so much Regan, you are a godsend.

I have had a very positive experience with LTF Palm Valley as a whole UNTIL I discovered I was still being charged $190 a month for training sessions I cancelled months before. I contacted my trainer and he quickly helped me fix the mistake. He's a great guy and a great trainer. I've reached or am close to reaching all my fitness goals because of his guidance. If you're looking for a trainer at this location, ask for Regan. He's the best.

Terrible place for families. My child was bitten 4 times one of them piercing through the skin and the only thing that was done was a report with no proof or report number. Not blaming the other child but I am blaming Lifetime for not having adequate staffing available to prevent at least the second bite. Definitely won’t be returning, and recommend that families look for other gyms. You won’t be able to workout in peace!

The locker rooms but most importantly the showers are in need of a remodeling, it feels as if you can cut your feet if you were to go in barefooted. It would also be much appreciated if the gym could go back to being 24 hours like before to justify the cost for a membership while other gyms are back to 24 hours.

Wonderful gym, HOWEVER whoever is in charge of scheduling group classes should probably find a different job BECAUSE they run group classes pretty much everyday Monday-Friday between the hours of 5-7. When is the gym at its busiest in my 22 years of working out it is most certainly the hours of 5-8 when everyone gets off work and is getting out of school! Now the problem that irritates basically everyone except the ones in the class is that this group class occupies over half of the platforms available in the gym leaving it almost impossible to get a platform during these times. The reason I signed up at this gym is due to the amount of platforms they have so this perk is no longer a perk during the busiest times. People are literally lined up waiting for this class to end. It’s pretty much a mad dash to get one after it ends so, not only that but they blast music and an instructor is yelling through a giant speaker the entire class . This is absolutely ridiculous. 99% of the workouts they do can be done without using any of the platforms or can definitely be shared to occupy far less of them. This is beyond frustrating for numerous members as I have personally heard many people complain . It needs to be rethought

I have been a member at LifeTime for about 2 years now and while it is a nice gym with lots of amenities- it is incredibly expensive and lately, seems to be more of a money grab. I do not see the value for the price unfortunately when comparing with other gyms- I have a few gyms that I would prefer to go to (all which have much more gym space and equipment for a tenth of the cost) but as this gym is right next to my house and the people I work out with all go there, I find it convenient enough to stay despite being hard to justify with my budget. I do enjoy the amenities that other gyms do not have which also keeps me staying: cafe for protein shakes (too expensive now though), pickleball courts, outdoor pool, but I do have a couple suggestions.

Price increases (not just membership, but also amenities) as of late have been outrageous when compared to services. I have asked many workers to please put requests in to have the old, wobbly and broken benches fixed- there are only so many at Lifetime and a handful are not in great shape and have not been fixed to this day. I have also asked a couple of times for the bathing suit drying machine in the family locker to be fixed, still has not been fixed. Instead of buying new, quality pickleball paddles and balls to replace the broken ones so members can check out and use for free, Lifetime has put out their own, branded pickleball paddles for $200 for members to buy. Pickleball court reservations are $20+tax on the app for an hour. Pickleball classes/lessons are also an additional cost. Gym hours have been cut and have not been brought back since Covid.

I understand this can be considered an elite gym and is very much “pay to play” and mostly based on the amenities but please stop nickle and diming members and provide better service to keep members.

Signed up 6-7 months ago with Eric, paid the account set up fee and he said we can put our $116/month membership (me, wife and child) on hold anytime or cancel at no cost at all. NOT TRUE ! When I decided to put it on hold I was told there is $10/month fee for that and there is a 30 days notice required. .so they will charge me for one more month before I can do the change or cancel.I walked over to Eric's office to ask him about all this and ofcourse he can't remember, but he is sure he informed us about all policies. .In fact we (2 adults talking with him) both remember asking him about hold and cancellation, knowing that with our schedule we might not be able to use enough this very expensive membership. I'm paying for my mistake, for not taking the time and go over the paperwork and fine print, so keep in mind, don't trust the salesman! Nice place, but very disappointed with "sales". Cancelled.

A lot of people don’t realize there is a spa/ salon in this gym. I highly recommend seeing Devin for all your hair needs, she has helped me achieve my blonde dreams for about 3 years and now she is helping me with my brunette goals! She is multi faceted and so sweet. Candi is my go to for facials. Her hydra facial is amazing, she really gets in there! She helped me get on a skin care regimen and my skin has been consistently glowing. Just do what she recommends!

Expensive, falling apart, all the machine attachments are falling apart, Saunas are turned down, even sitting next to the heater in both Saunas is still not hot enough. 3 hot tubs, only one works and isn't 100 degrees so it's pointless for any real recovery.
They also cut the number of yoga and cycle classes. Total BS
This place should be nice for what they charge but $10 per month at one of the other commercial gyms is a better value because you're not paying for a bunch of broken equipment and amenities that don't work. Very disappointed that the gym is ran like a walmar5

I visit a lot of the Lifetimes throughout the Phoenix valley. The Goodyear LT is by far the cleanest LT in the valley. Whoever the janitor crew is deserve a raise. By the way, your LT cafe is better than the other LT Cafes. Sylvia’s breakfast burritos are incredible. Give your cafe staff a raise also.

My absolute favorite gym in the valley. I take my kids in for child care and they love going to the gym. Variety of classes for children, great infant center (3mo-12mo), and the staff is top notch. The gym itself is always getting updated. Every couple of years they get new equipment, redo the floors, and just keep it updated and new. They are no longer 24 hours, but still have amazing hours. I can't recommend this gym enough. It's a complete experience.

I love the rowing machines, the new weight machines that are more functions. Its easier to do other exercises. When Im not feeling like going to train upstairs. The indoor pools come in a clutch. Overall very happy and satisficed. Worth the price!

My family has loved Lifetime forever. We relocated from Minnesota and we moved to Litchfield Park. The Palm Valley club is closest to our new home and man does it make us feel like we are in Minnesota but with better weather! The sign up process and tour with Becca was amazing. You should ask for her, she is so personable and outgoing. Not pushy at all. I also dealt with Steve and Sam who helped me navigate my insurance program and gave me awesome insight.
They walked us through the app and how to get the most. I took the photo of the outdoor pool which I am excited to use this summer!

Thanks to the entire experience and staff, we finally have our “favorite part of Minnesota” with us in our new Arizona home!
