Almost had to leave just as soon as I started lifting I was so grossed out today. PLEASE do something about dudes working out barefoot or in socks and I’ll delete this review. I’m not talking about ppl removing their shoes to squat or something like that, literally dudes walking barefoot or in socks from machine to machine, pacing back and forth. It’s so disgusting. I pay $140+ for a gym membership to avoid things like this.

Disappointing Experience at Life Time Tempe

I have been a loyal Life Time member for years and generally love the brand, but the Tempe location under Steve Getz has been a huge disappointment.

1. Broken Equipment: Today I tried eight different treadmills. Several did not start, two would not stop after running and I had to jump off, and others had laggy or unresponsive screens.
2. Steam Room Issues: The steam room rarely works.
3. Cleanliness Problems: Dirty wet towels are often left on the locker room and shower floors. This is not what you expect from a premium gym. Although I acknowledge that the staff work around the clock in the men locker room to keep it clean, but the gym is clearly over crowded which makes it impossible for the staff to catch up.
4. Noise and Class Disruption: Group classes use several large amplifiers for a few nearby participants, but the sound travels across the entire gym. You can still hear the instructor yelling through your headphones with music on.
5. Poor Communication: When you complain, they ask you to send an email, but later claim they never received it.
6. Management Issues: The general manager is rarely available and does not seem to care about the poor condition of this location.

I truly like the Life Time brand, but Life Time Tempe is not the premium experience it claims to be. It feels like a low-tier gym charging premium prices.

It’s literally posted to not take photos in the locker room. A staff member (that was replacing towels in the locker room) saw a woman taking a photo with her back to the mirror so you can see the entire locker room and an older lady (that barely had anything on) was changing. That is criminal behavior! Could your staff step up and say something and then revoke the criminal lady’s membership? Your employee saw what happened and did nothing. You have to train your staff!

Worst gym experience.

My gf and I got free one day passes to try this gym out.. we were recommended by a current member. We received an email to head in and speak to someone to activate or day passes. So, we go... Dressed to work out and advise the young front desk man of our pass. He immediately discredits the free pass and says we now have to pay 30$ per person... After explaining why we were there, he now has his manager on a walkie on his way to grab us... We are forced into a back office and 1. Tried to be forced into signed up for a 150$ membership today.. and 2. Accused of being freeloaders who have no right I these one day passes. I felt like a criminal for using a feature of their website. We were kicked off the basketball court for child's birthday party... Yes, a child's birthday party being thrown at a gym... The only thing I have to say is that I will NEVER be a member of this gym and I don't recommend any new comers look this direction either.

Would love to leave a raving review of this fitness center, however the employees are rude! One cafe assistant in particular is off the charts rude - beware of the cleanliness of the cafe. I personally saw a lady making food and then with the gloves she is preparing food with, put her hair in a ponytail. I called her out on it and asked she change her gloves. Her response "you think my hair is dirty" to that, I replied with ALL hair is dirty and I am sure the person you are making food for would appreciate clean gloves and no additional items in their food - such as hair! You would think they would be taught proper food preparation rules, but also respect. Front desk lady was not shocked. Emailed the manager Steve. Overall, other fitness centers have shown better customers service - with less membership fees. Village!!!!!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but parents need to be aware of what’s happening at this location. I had a deeply upsetting experience involving my infant daughter, who came home with visible marks near her eye, not her cheek as falsely stated by Kelcee Sherman (the Kids Leader). I made it very clear that I wanted to receive the camera footage from the time my daughter was there (4:30–6:30 PM), and I was told by corporate that I had the right to request it. Despite multiple follow-ups, Kelcee has not responded or provided the footage — which leads me to believe she lied about what happened.

Her version of events did not match what I saw with my own eyes during pickup. The lack of transparency, accountability, and basic communication is incredibly disappointing — especially when it involves a child’s safety.

Because of this, we were forced to switch clubs and now pay more for care elsewhere — a decision we didn’t take lightly, but one we had to make to protect our daughter.

If you’re a parent, please take this into consideration before trusting this location with your child.

He pushes me out of my comfort zone just enough and I am happy with the results I am seeing so far. So sad I had to cancel my membership after 8 years. I gave a 5 star because I loved my trainers and my gym family. Just wish they had it where long timers could be grandfather in their prices. I went from pay $55 to $180. I just couldn't afford it anymore with everything else going up. I now go to EOS paying $24 a month and it's 24 hours which I did miss when you guys provided that service. I do hope to come back one day when I could afford it again, but until then EOS it is 💔 Thank you for the GREAT service EVERYTIME.

I constantly smell food while working out, I should not be smelling cafe food on the gym floor. For the price of 100$ per month I would expect better. The ducting for your kitchen exhaust and the intake on the air conditioners for the upstairs are too close together, thus the air conditioners draw in used kitchen air from the exhaust.

Many of the doors in the women’s change room do not have locks as was described to me during my tour. I’ve asked twice over several months for them to be fixed, which would take 10 minutes and be of minimal cost. Both times I asked for it to be addressed, I was told it would be, yet it never has been. The app constantly fails, so I can’t register for classes. The pools have extremely limited availability for people not on the swim team who work typical business hours.

I like the layout of this gym better than their Tempe location even though it's a little smaller. It seems less crowded than Tempe.

There's a good variety of equipment and they're well maintained. Space is clean and bright.

The lockers are a bit dated. It's weird to have the toilets in a separate closed room within the locker room.

Note they close the showers 15mins before closing time, which is uber annoying, as it forces me to rush the end of my workout if I want to shower. I don't have to deal with that at the LT in my home state, and I don't understand why that would even be needed.

I, like other members with knee or hip replacements, use the recumbent bikes for exercise/rehabilitation. There are 5 recumbent bikes facing the pool. It has been at least 3 months (perhaps longer) since all 5 bikes have been simultaneously operational and available. There was a period when just 2 of the bikes were usable. It's disappointing that management cannot get a handle on this so that spare/replacement parts are readily accessible; or even have a bike held in reserve as a replacement for one undergoing repairs, given the apparent poor reliability of this equipment .

We are making the decision not to come back to this gym ever again. I visited this gym location today, March 18, 2025, at approximately 1:20-1:30 PM, with my girlfriend. We are both current members on my account. Upon arrival, we were assisted by a front desk representative named Gabby.
My girlfriend was denied entry, as Gabby stated she needed to "set it up" at the front desk to be checked in. This process was not clearly explained. We have visited this location numerous times before and have never encountered this issue. We were under the impression that she could be checked in under my membership.
This experience was very disappointing. I would appreciate it if the gym clarified its guest check-in procedures and ensured that all staff are properly trained. I would also appreciate it if management would address this issue.

The guest policy and making guests who will be here literally one time and are visiting from out of state create an account(to then get bombarded with daily emails) and download the app is crazy - creating a bad experience especially for how much monthly dues are. I joined this gym 5 years ago and I agree, I hope they get rid of the old filthy towels. The family locker room is always locked and not available to use. If they don't change this main parts that I mentioned, this company will lost a lot of good members. Everything is pricey. But still love to go there in anytime I want to and that's the bonus.

My Wedding ring got stolen here in a locked locker. A lot of other peoples things have been stolen here. Management continues to do nothing about it. They deny and don’t want to take any sort of accountability for it. If it wasn’t for the pickleball community I wouldn’t definitely not still be a member at this gym. They do not care at all about the members they just care about money.

***Review in Progress***

This is not the gym you're looking for...

We all remember that line delivered by Obi and I'll give you another one.

This is the gym that's been looking for YOU and your family and your friends.

This is a gym where Hailey III supplies members like myself with weapons of rescue for flat tubes.

This is a gym where Fred stops by on his way to work so he can pull out all of the goat heads in my tire with his pocket knife.

These two employees exude helpfulness like sweat pours from the members that work so hard to improve their lives @ this fortress of multitude. This gym builds super men, women, and children.

Nothing brings a smile to my face more easily than when I see staff running around with the little ones. How wonderful for the next generation to be surrounded by greatness!?

But what would a story be without a great, no perfect ending?

A women came by and asked if she could help. She had just finished the 8:15 yoga with Billy and still had her bike bucket in the car after yesterday's ride.

A mountain bike girl helping a gravel bike guy. Could Sunday have been any better? No, it could not. Why?

Because now I get to center my weekend around Billy and his "tough" yoga class just like the rad women who completely rescued me today... I wish I got her name. :-(

And so it goes here @ Lifetime. The more time you spend the more life you get.

In the end it's all just air. Why not fill it with a lifetime supply?

We purchased a month membership while visiting, and couldn’t have asked for more! We were able to stay consistent with our fitness goals, and our children had a fantastic time while staying active and learning new skills. Our girls have greatly improved their swimming skills thanks to lessons with Gabe and Ariana, and tennis with Coach Charlie and Coach Alex. Special thanks to Kari, Lead Concierge for making this all possible and Kelcee for all things kids and swim related — you both made us feel so welcome and by the time we left we felt like Life Time is our home away from home!

Yet another rate increase for membership, frankly I use the club maybe 10 days on average and saying that overcrowding is a reason to raise rates to keep a pleasant experience for everyone well just go ahead and cancel my membership. Lifetime makes money off much more than membership as they profit off the personal training, the salon, the cafe,, supplements and more and yet want to squeeze little old me out for another $10 is a pure disgrace. Used the pool 5 times this year. It's pure greed as they only open new clubs at the premium signature tier $300 and don't look to open more clubs of this lower tier. After a second rate increase I'll go somewhere else. Thanks! Lifetime Fitness doesn't do anything for my journey of physical fitness that's on me and the energy I put forward. But hey I just received a raise by saving almost $1,100 a year. Also kicking in Dec 1 notified via email Nov 6th and you didn't even give me 30 day notice as which is required for me to cancel my membership without enduring the increase. Your yet another rate increase is a disgrace and pure corporate greed!

Would love to see some changes.

My family and I have been members at Lifetime for the past three years. We absolutely love it. In the past month I’ve discovered a new love for Pilates and was super excited to see that was something the gym offered… sadly I found that the classes were not included in the membership, except for a one time beginners course. I’m honestly very disappointed that unlimited access to the program would cost another $250 on top of the almost $200 we already pay. I would love for the programs to be included in the signature membership. Hoping I’m able to get this resolved. My family and I love Lifetime and would hate to have to switch gyms for a Pilates program that is easier to access within a membership.

This place is a joke. Whoever is in charge of this place needs to canned. The maintenance of equipment is non-existent. As an example, there are 4 spin bikes on the floor. 3 of them haven't worked for over a month. There is absolutely zero routine maintenance. The spacing of equipment on the floor looks like it's been set up by a bunch of high schoolers. Sad thing is the rates they charge are highly exorbitant. It's stupid that they charge what they do and give the basic services. Steer clear of this place.

This is the best gym I have ever been apart of. I signed up about two months ago, two weeks later, my brother passed away and I left town. Now that I am back, lifetime has been an amazing, yet helpful escape for me between working out, the steam rooms, pools and cafes. I love this place and it’s currently my home away from home.

Equipment is top notch and clean and working always. It is a busy, but very large gym and you can always use what you need.

Customer service is also top notch, Kendall, who works at the front desk, welcomes and even called to follow up on how my experience has been going as a new member. I have zero complaints here other than the poolside cafe hours being sort of inconsistent.

Thank you all who run this amazing gym, it has been a great place for me during this rough time in my life.

This gym is the only gym with two tiers of medicare membership. For basic medicare members who don't pay $100 extra, there are many restrictions on when and what classes you can take.

On weekdays, basic level of senior membership only allowed to get in from 9:30am to 3pm. There is only one single dance class on Friday morning during this block. There were rumour of add more dance class for basic level seniors since January 2024.
It's been 5 months past, nothing happened,
still only one single dance class per week for seniors.

The class coordinator Ms.J functioned on too many tasks,
she can act as "security guard" to kick you out of an event ;
she also can stop you while you were making complaints to a manager.
I want to tell her,
"You are not running a KGB, this is a senior program."

On a bad day, if you make a mistake and getting in wrong time; wrong event. You better NOT encounter the front desk staff Ms.J
plus the class coordinator . These two are so strict; no flexibility and will make your check in process a living hell.

Other gyms like EOS; Mountainside; Vasa; Physique; LA fitness,
all had much simpler plan with basic senior membership,
you can access any class anytime with no restriction at all.

But if you are not just aiming for dancing class, they do have enough choice of other classes during the "allowed "time block.

The years pass us by so quickly that you turn 65 (or over) in a blink of an eye. You look back, then forward, and sometimes ask yourself, "what now"? The ARORA Program at Lifetime Fitness is just the answer! This is a physical fitness program tailored specifically for those over the age of 65. The instructors are certified on the elderly human anatomy and know exactly how to bring out a sweat in us, all-the-while being cognizant on how "not-to" hurt our bones/joints/etc. One feels refreshed and accomplished after every class (not to mention the social aspect that accompanies this program). The ARORA instructors are exceptional both in physical fitness technique and compassion. I (we) thank Life Time for partnering with various Medicare Programs to allow this gift for us. It truly is a tribute that we cannot express enough gratitude.
With sincerest thanks............Tracy

This gym is clean, nice staff, great equipment, roomy for exercising.
My son has a membership here; I do not and also am from a different state. LF had guests free over Christmas holiday, so I was able to join my son at his gym over the holiday, Friday thru Tuesday.
Nice big locker room with granite benches, roomy single showers. Hairdryers.
Co-ed steam room, saunas, whirlpool, indoor and outdoor pools.
There is a good cafe, I believe opens at 6am M-Th. Also an open spaced area to work and connect to WiFi.
The gym was busy; is roomy. Hallways and common areas are spacious. Observed a trainer working with a member, the care and attention toward that individual.
Impressed beyond with this place, the amenities. Glad I was able to try it. I will take a tour of my local LF gym to see if it is as impressive.

I’ve been a long time member here for working out and basketball purposes. I love that they are family friendly, but they already reduced their two Basketball courts down to one and now close the basketball courts down four months out of the year to put a kids Academy in there. They need to find additional room to build out so kids have a place to go on their school breaks and not need to close down areas their members use.

Disappointing. Being a member of a higher tier club I thought of this club as similar but it is far from it.

Today I asked to borrow a theragun because my shoulder was hurting a day. I was denied. At my club we have a recovery room with access to these items. I was told it was a “liability”. Being in insurance I find that hilarious.

My membership grants me these amenities and this location follows the “rules”. Well. I would like to see these rules. I have sent an email to management. If this location won’t treat us the same and you expect it, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

“Man in the mirror” is in the background and our Aqua Zumba instructor said the clouds shaped like a giant heart . Perfectly imperfect she said .
I hope she can get more credits for not only helping me lost 14 pounds last month but also helping me to get heal .
No matter it’s the Zumba inside or in the pool , Dancing with you guys is like getting all the positive energy in and sweating all the bad stuff out! Big big love to Dawn and Alisha !!!!! ❤️

It's OK. Paying $100 a month gym membership with not one cold drinking fountain is absurd

Took a tour. I was especially interested in the pools - both indoor and outdoor. Very large facility with lots of options. Very pricey, but I signed up anyway. Since it is a month to month membership and I can cancel anytime with 30 days notice, if I later decide it's not for me, dropping will be easy.
Update 6/2023
I've been a member 2 years now. Mostly it's fine. The indoor wet area (pools, hot tubs, steam room) is extremely dangerous for ADA people. They have a floor that is very slippery, rather than a textured surface like they have around the outdoor pool. The only way to get to the outdoor pools is through this indoor area. I use a cane and balance is an issue. More than once the cane has slipped out from under me and I almost fell. Since the pool is my primary reason for going here, this is very disappointing. If you have any mobility issues, you should think twice before joining. Or maybe they could add ridged rubber runners so people can walk without danger. But I doubt they will ever do something like that.

I am updating my review of Tempe lifetime fitness. It has really gone downhill. The gym is dirty due to many members that have ZERO CLASS OR Gym etiquette. The equipment is run down much of it needs repair and the bathrooms are usually disgusting because most of the people the younger crowd. Doesn't clean up after themselves. When I say younger people i'm talking about individuals between the ages of thirty and forty which is pretty sad. Lifetime was too worried about building their new gym and just let the Tempe location. Go which is fine with me cause i'm not real thrilled about the crowd has gone down hill no just rude people with no manners or class. I have also made several requests about equipment needing to be moved because it's too close to other equipment as well as equipment that needs repair and it just. Falls on deaf ears.

Facility is alright customer service is awful when it comes to cancel ur membership is been a hassle I called over the phone they can’t do it theres no option in the app or website to cancel wich doesn’t make sense receptionist over told me i have to go in person at the location thats what i did after 3 momths after i came back to az so i got charged over 300$ and when i went to cancel they made me pay another 120$ this bussines model its not good i feel like i got scammed not going back to lifetime fitness .

Would be 5 stars except the crowds… this place is PACKED. Hard to find an open squat rack or place to stretch. Everything else is great, only recent gripe is that they increased our membership prices AND THEN IMMEDIATELY REMOVED THE OUTDOOR WATERFALL DUE TO REPAIR COST. It was my favorite feature of this gym. If I can’t find an open squat rack or bench, I’ll be finding another gym soon.. help solve the problem.

Location: 5/5
I've been a LifeTime member on and off for the better half of a decade. If I lived in the US, I would definitely be a member here year-round. The facilities are top of the line and the staff is even better. Amicable, professional, you name it; they're great. Come check out this gym, you'll probably walk away a member and for that you won't be disappointed.

The thing I love about lifetime it can be like a country club or just be like a gym and has everything you want basketball pick up all weightlifting swimming pretty much anything under the sun including classes like yoga etc etc most of the people here are very nice and friendly but it's definitely not a meat market which is a good thing

5 star review for Tyler Scharbach! This team member is a superstar and understands how to provide top quality service. Please recognize him for exceptional service and always doing the right thing especially when no one is looking. I’m a new potential client from out of state and I have always heard what a great facility this was so I came in to see for myself and from the exterior cleanliness to my initial warm greeting and introduction from Tyler with the facility tour, it definitely is worth every penny of membership. Employees like Tyler are hard to come by…keep up the great work!

I decided to check this place out and do a tour , I haven’t worked out in years and want to get back on my healthy journey but all the gyms I have tried have never motivated me or interested me and I was intimidated to attempt to get back in shape …. first of all dirk was so amazing, 0 pressure to join, no sales pitch just positive vibes , I decided to join due to him and I LOVE this place the classes alone are worth more than the membership per month, the amount of amenities and equipment is insane ! So many amazing challenging classes (in a good way) and the staff is so beyond welcoming and positive … 1000% go to a class Danny teaches he has got to be the best instructor I have EVER had (barre and barbell class are a whole vibe and such a good workout ) I have been going almost daily now and I finally feel motivated and like I have the support and ability to accomplish my health goals . The cafe is amazing, spa, pool, steam rooms, saunas, water slide, rock wall, pickle ball the list goes on. I feel like I’m at my own amusement park I’m excited to go to daily. It never feels too crowded , and it feels at home.. took a few weeks to get used to it but ahh finally a place I love !! If your considering joining just do it !

Last year I added my teenage son to my membership because I knew he would enjoy all of the options available. The last time he had been at Lifetime was when he was about four years old in the child center. He is now 17 and enjoying the basketball court, the weights, hot tub, sauna and most definitely the snack bar. Lol. The staff are always extremely helpful and I am very comfortable with him and the trainers, who are very knowledgeable.

There is no reason for anyone not to join the LifeTime Community! Hands down the BEST IN CLASS! Lifetime has everything you need in a Gym, plus more! Let's start with the Employees! You walk in, you're greeted by NAME, EVERY TIME, WITH A SMILE! The front desk is flat out Amazing! How in the world do they know Everyone's names, to include the Children! Noone on the Lifetime team walks by, without a smile and a greeting! It's the Members that drive the Lifetime Community, I've met some great people, people I would have never came in contact with! Rarely will a Member walk pass you without saying hi. The Culture at Lifetime is Amazing, you will see and feel it!!!! AS SOON AS YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOORS, THERE'S NO GYM IN THE VALLEY LIKE LIFETIME!

Was on freeze due to a medical situation. Re-activated my account without my permission. Charged my account $175 and put me into the negative. Was told to come in to get a refund and cancel membership, got there and instead of getting help I got argued with for 5 minutes and told to come back when I could discuss it with someone higher up. They want me to provide them with a doctor’s note which is a huge overstep for a gym, let alone one that I am not even in contract with.

Lifetime Fitness as a company overall is excellent.

Each club (location) is supposed to Adhere to Lifetime Standards across the nation.

This location as a facility is older, one of the first ones build in Arizona. It has the old layout. They have enhanced and updated many of the areas as the new locations have. Unfortunately the entrance door, the automatic button has been broken for a long time. This is crucial for the Handicapped/Limited Mobility members. See photos for the broken door.

The facility has everything that other lifetime facilities have, great weights, cardio areas, group fitness, new indoor pickle ball courts, basketball 🏀 court, basketball, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor hot tubs, sauna, and steam room.

This location has outdoor Tennis 🎾 and Pickle ball courts which no other lifetime fitness locations in Arizona have.

Facilities are great.

What is lacking I is customer service and leadership. Customer Service is a hit or miss. Lifetime fitness isn’t about a gym, it’s a EXPERIENCE! Like a fine five star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Resort.

Hospitality is the name of the game. This is what makes lifetime fitness great and keeps long term members. This location specially the concierge/front desk female manager has a serious chip on her shoulder. Unfortunately Many members feel the same.

Overall Lifetime Fitness is great. I look forward to constant facility/program improvement and five star hospitality!

This really isn’t just a gym and it is worth every single penny. Honestly, I can’t believe they don’t charge more.

I’m a single mom and not from the state. The staff in the childcare center treat my son like he’s their own child. Taylor and Kelcee are incredible and immediately proactive about meeting any concerns.

Big shout out to Tyler. That man is the soul of the club. I have never met a person who is as relationship oriented as he is. He remembers everyone’s names and greets me and my son by name every single day. He is calm, cool, and gracious every single time we talk.

I have a two-year-old son who comes with me in the morning and this child is a never ending bucket of energy. The staff, especially Tyler, make him feel incredibly special. They take time every morning to talk with him and build a relationship, make him feel valued and important.

For the first time, my son is excited to go somewhere without me. It’s no longer a battle to get a couple hours to myself for a workout and a shower.

Lifetime, especially this location, is a life-line for mothers of small children. I have never felt better in my life.

The facilities are clean and well organized. They have everything we need, and I love their cafe.

As the mother of a special needs child (my daughter who is 6), I also want to commend their staff for being incredibly patient with a young man and with me regarding a misunderstanding recently. They took the time to investigate and clear things up. I’m sure his father was grateful too.

Cannot say enough good things about this location. I drive 25 minutes out of my way to go here if I’m not in the area.

The gym is amazing but Certain staff are very unprofessional I’ve requested to freeze my account 3 months in a row and was still charged to my account. so I can go to the asu gym during the semesters …the reasoning was I have to put a 30 day notice. I did 3 months in a row = 90 days 🫤.

Was always charged a missed appointment “fee” for a hairdressing appointment I missed due to being stuck in Milwaukee airport after my ufc fight….i told the stylist I was out of town this weekend when I set the appointment. Honestly don’t have a problem with her I think it’s the front desk not listening to me tbh I wasn’t asking you to freeze my account. do your trabajo(job) sheeesh

Club meets Lifetime standards, their salon does not.. Went in for balayage and stylist obviously did not have the skills. Wound up spending $300+ just for highlights, NOT the look I asked for. Very disappointed and no time to correct before my cruise. If she didn't have the ability would have appreciated just stating that instead of doing what she wanted.
