I've been a member of Mountainside Fitness for several years across multiple locations, and the consistency of quality, cleanliness, and sheer selection of equipment is unparalleled in the region. Mountainside doesn't just offer a place to work out; they offer a premium fitness experience that genuinely motivates you to show up.
World-Class Facilities & Equipment
The gyms are meticulously clean—from the locker rooms to the weight floor. The equipment is modern, abundant, and rarely broken. You'll find separate areas for strength training (with ample racks and specialized machines), cardio (row upon row of state-of-the-art treadmills, ellipticals, and climbers), and functional fitness. Even during peak hours, I rarely struggle to find the gear I need.
The Best Group Fitness in the Valley
Where Mountainside truly shines is its Group Fitness (GX) program. The schedule is massive, offering everything from high-intensity interval training (HIIT), cycle, yoga, and signature classes like GX2O (aqua fitness) and various Les Mills programs. The instructors are passionate, highly qualified, and create an atmosphere that is both challenging and inclusive, making it easy for beginners to join and veterans to push their limits.
Amenities and Atmosphere
Beyond the weights, the amenities elevate the membership value. Features like the indoor pool, relaxing sauna and steam rooms, and dedicated child care (KidCare) centers make it easy to incorporate fitness into a busy family schedule. The atmosphere, while energetic, is respectful and community-focused. It feels welcoming, not intimidating, which is a huge factor in long-term adherence to a fitness plan.
Final Verdict
Mountainside Fitness is more than worth the investment. For the price, the sheer volume of amenities, the quality of the facilities, and the excellence of the classes make it the definitive choice for anyone serious about their health and fitness journey in Arizona. Highly, highly recommended!

Joined Mountainside end of May to get back into shape. Signed up for Personal Training and got to work with Sarah McDonald. I can't say enough good things about Sarah. She is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. I looked forward to our weekly workout, knowing she would have a good workout planned and would push me to do my best. With her direction I was able to reach my early goal. Now to keep using her workouts to reach the rest of my goals to be a fitter me.

Me and my son have been coming to this gym for about three years. We started at the Val Vista location and followed when they moved here. They recently banned my 7-year-old son from this location because some little kids said he and a girl kissed. My son doesn’t deny it but says the girl kissed him—she follows him around saying she’s going to marry him. Nobody saw it, he wasn’t even written up, but days later manager Chandler pulled me aside after my workout and told me my son couldn’t come back. He said it was “for the welfare of other children.” That makes no sense because my son hadn’t done anything wrong.
He hadn’t had a write-up in over two months. Their rule is three write-ups in 60 days before a suspension, then a clean slate. I spoke to GM Taylor, who told me that rule was “for one-year-olds who bite,” which is just not true—it’s for all kids. He said my son had six write-ups in a year (never multiple in the same 60-day period) and that they “feel this behavior would continue.” What behavior? A little girl kissed him. That’s it.
Meanwhile, my son has been bullied and even punched in the stomach by an 11-year-old so hard he couldn’t eat when we got home. That boy was never suspended or banned. Why? Because Cheryl, who runs the daycare, likes his family. Cheryl has always been rude to us, clearly plays favorites, and makes her own rules depending on who she likes. My son has ADHD, and instead of giving him the extra care they claim to provide (special tags for kids with needs), Cheryl targeted him. Other kids with ADHD or special needs get support, but not mine. Either she discriminates against ADHD kids, against boys, or maybe it’s just against my son—but the bias was obvious from day one. Cheryl is one of the most miserable, unprofessional people I’ve ever dealt with, and if she doesn’t actually like kids, she should not be working with them.
We stayed here because of the friendships we made, but the truth is the gym itself is awful: limited and broken equipment (one incline bench, one rear delt, many machines half-working), poor ventilation, bathrooms that reek, showers filthy with trash and snot, no towels, and they even replaced a good sauna with a useless red-light one. It’s small, overcrowded, dirty, and unsafe.
After three years of loyalty, this is how we were treated. I even tried contacting Mario, the COO, and never got a response. Loyal paying customers mean nothing here. If you don’t want to go through what we did, do yourself a favor and avoid this place. EOS is cheaper, bigger, and cleaner. Life Time is more expensive but like a resort and worth every penny. Even another Mountainside location might be better. But this Gilbert one? Absolutely terrible.

The childcare at Mountainside Fitness is absolutely amazing! The managers, Cheryl and Jessi, go above and beyond to make every family feel welcome and supported. They are organized, kind, and genuinely care about each child’s experience. You can tell they love what they do!
A special shoutout to Zoe, who is incredible with the kids. She is always patient, cheerful, and engaged. My little one lights up when she sees her! It’s such a relief knowing my child is in such good hands while I work out.
Highly recommend this location’s childcare team!

I’ve been a member now for a couple of months and I really like this gym. It has a great selection of equipment and plenty of weights. I have also enjoyed using their sauna at the end of a workout. The gym has slowly been doing improvements but management has made a good effort to do small sections at a time to make sure it isn’t taking over the gym. The improvements are great as well. Only complaint is I wish there were more bottle refilling stations and towels because sometimes one is broken, or there aren’t any large towels in the locker rooms.

Went to Mountainside Fitness Gilbert today and had the best experience. Alex was the trainer/manager who helped me find the right equipment and techniques to do the exercises. He was very kind, considerate, and truly interested in my success. I refer to his attitude and help as “old school customer service”. Alex brought credit to himself, Mountainside Fitness Gilbert, and the Mountainside Fitness Corporation. Well done!

Love that the gym has great childcare! It helps me keep my fitness routine! The staggering is friendly! The childcare is clean. It does get busy at times but they have added a toddler room which has helped keep my toddler safe when bigger kids are there.
The app is easy to use to reserve a spot for class. The classes I've taken are good.
The renovations are coming along quite nicely (peak area, the 3 classrooms, the bathroom.... I dont utilize the actual floor)

Do not use this gym unless you plan on keeping it forever. I went to the gym on 4/10/25 to cancel as I wasn't going to be back for 6+ months. I was told I would still be charged for May, which was fine and expected. Now they are continuing to charge me and will not respond or address the issue. I've attempted contacting both Mountainside and ABC and cannot get a resolution. I've had to block my card so they can't continue to charge me which now results in past due messages.

Gilbert Mountain Fitness is the finest facility I have ever belonged to. As a gym rat my whole life and been a member of numerous fitness facilities Mountain Side has the best equipment and amenities I have ever seen. All areas of the facility are always immaculate. The staff is amazing and greets every member with courtesy and is helpful with any questions or needs.
As a lifelong fitness enthusiast I never thought I would want or need a personal
trainer but as a senior with medical conditions I spoke with the head trainer Alex. He has an advanced degree in kinesiology and set up a program with Katlyn one of the finest and most conscientious trainers I have ever met. In almost three months I have made substantial progress in strength and overall health. I can’t thank them enough.

I, a humble seeker of strength and glory, do solemnly scribe these words by the light of the forge. Mine quill, heavy with the burden of truth, doth scratch across this parchment (faithfully transcribed by a jacked monk I encountered performing deadlifts behind a distant monastery).
Hear me, ye weary of spirit and feeble of quad: there existeth a sanctuary amidst the scorched realm of Gilbert — a hallowed temple of steel and sweat, known unto the initiated as Mountainside Fitness.
I didst not stumble upon this sacred hall by mere happenstance, but by divine providence. The gods of Gains did whisper unto mine ear, “Go forth, mortal. Go forth, and be transformed.” And verily, I obeyed.
Within these mighty walls liest every contraption, every cable, rack, and mat that a warrior of flesh might require. The air hums with sacred promise. Men doth grunt. Women lift with valiant might. Beasts are forged in silence. Protein powder floateth through the air like fairy dust upon the wind.
But lo — what worth are such tools without a master?
Enter Sarah — mine guide, mine sentinel, mine relentless sherpa upon the treacherous ascent of personal greatness. She is the living embodiment of discipline, fury, and grace — a maiden of iron whose gaze cutteth sharper than a thousand daggers, and whose encouragement striketh harder than the shaman’s own grog. Upon mine sinew and bone, she hath carved a new destiny.
Whilst my legs did tremble and my will did falter, Sarah’s voice thundered across the heavens: “ONCE MORE.”
And lo, though the firmament did crack and the very earth wept, I did one more rep.
Should ye seek to transcend mediocrity, to gaze upon thy reflection and see not a man, but a titan - heed these words:
Seek Mountainside Fitness.
Find Sarah.
Embrace the pain.
And RISE.
For there, in that consecrated hall, beneath fluorescent beams, amidst clang of iron and sweat of brow — thou too shalt become legend.

Joined the club on 12/31/2025 because of a promotion (0 initialization fee), just wanted to try it out. Unfortunately could not use the club even once. Today I canceled it. Here are my payments:
12/31/2025 - $40.45 <- join the club (payment upfront for the "last" month)
01/03/2025 - $40.45 <- Jan
02/03/2025 - $40.45 <- Feb
03/03/2025 - $40.45 <- Mar
04/03/2025 - $78.45 <- Apr + Annual Fee
04/03/2025 - $70.00 <- Cancellation fee!!!
So, why one star? Simple, the company
is running unethical billing practices!
1. They put the annual fee in April!
2. They ask for the last payment and at the cancellation
event slap you with an additional $70.00
3. The website says nothing about all of it!
So, if you want to try it out for 3 months you
know now what to expect. L.A. Fitness I am coming
back to you ;-)

I’ve been coming here months now and I’ve really grown fond of the gym community here. I’ve met at least a hundred people I know by name now and most of the staff as well. The gym is well kept, spacious and has enough equipment to satisfy a full workout with a variety of options to choose for your lift. They have multiple workout rooms if you want privacy as well as a nice half court basketball court. Locker rooms are nice. Most of the gym members are cool.
The staff that I have made friends with that are always nice and greet me: Chandler, Camila, Kayla, Jay, Matt, John, and Dom all work the front checking people in and always greet me. The girls in the kids club also do a great job, I know a few by name: Cheryl, Jessie, Remy and a few others that I can’t remember their name right now. This Gym deserves more than five stars. I work over at Ciphers Digital Marketing everybody there gets a family membership at Mountainside Fitness. I typically drive over here before or after work. The business owner for Mountainside. Tom Hatton is a great guy. Cares about the community stands for what he believes in. I’m really happy they’re starting to put cold plunge in their locations that’s why we come over here from work. Some people stay and work out. They all around Best fitness facility in the state of Arizona unless you wanna go to one of them big box GYMS and get caught up in over busy and under maintenance if you need a great gym in Gilbert and throughout Arizona mountainside the place to be thank you so much. I highly recommend this fitness center.

I’ve been with MountainSide since the beginning of the year when they were at the Val Vista location and moved to Gilbert Rd.
I’ve trained with Personal trainer, Sterling 3x a week for almost a year now.
Sterling is great to work with, always positive, has a great personality, pushes you to reach your goals while still making workouts fun and wanting to come back!
The picture is from what I started at to what I have accomplished in almost a year. Thanks to Sterling for always being encouraging and helping me along this fitness journey!

First of all, the staff here is AWFUL. The fitness manager is rude and insulting. The manager and the membership rep are completely worthless and lack any customer service skills. I haven’t been to this gym in over a year and they tried to call me a liar saying I was there two weeks ago and they’ll pull the cameras up and catch me on them… I canceled my membership over a year ago so good luck dummies. Calling your members liars when they’re just trying to cancel their membership you keep charging them for a year later is wild, and crooked as hell.

This message is for Tom- hey Tom I wanted to tell you in person about the staff at Gilbert & the 202 but I just missed you. There’s a LA Fitness right next to my house, I drive a little extra to this location due to the staff and upkeep of the facility. Alex, Sam, Ariana, & Shayne are awesome. They are super helpful and I can tell they genuinely care about my health and wellbeing. Kudos to the person in charge of staffing and selection at this location.

My boyfriend and I got a mountainside membership for all the wonderful amenities they offer. Well they don’t offer any because they’ve been getting worked on since this new location opened. All of this should have been done by move in, in my opinion.
When we went to go cancel the girl desperately tried getting us to stay and told us everything would be done in 2 days. Okay 2 weeks later nothing is done. Stop charging premium pricing for a gym that has no amenities to offer.

I can’t stand this club now. I use to love it . I am a usual. I have an issue everytime I’m there. I reffered my boyfriend to enroll. I was told I would get one free month off my membership now I’m told I’m behind a payment and they will fix it. Then today, I was there, for 2 hours , stood at the front, and left to get keys out the car and told “ hey mam can I scan you in “ when I literally took a spin class, scanned in a second time- and a child care member who’s kids are constantly running behind the counter while she works who knows exactly who I am tells me “ we see tons of faces around here….he just didn’t remember you” that is so messed up. As a staff you should know your usuals …. Shame on the front desk I’m literally there all the time and to openly tell me you see tons of faces.. a gym is a place you go to feel good not the opposite

The atmosphere at Mountainside Gym is both clean and friendly. What's particularly striking is the willingness of everyone to share equipment, fostering a sense of community. The gym has been recently renovated, and the host at the door always greets you with a smile. I'm a proud member of Mountainside and will definitely return when I'm in the area.

I recently joined this gym. The team up front is outstanding! Yes they made mistakes (me too) but Tailor has made it right along with her manager, Chandler. Ayden is new but he is kind and patient and responsive and that is going to go a long way in customer service. I can't wait to start the classes and get my workout back to normal.

I’ve always liked Mountainside and have been going for close to 5 years. I like the people that work out there. My biggest hang up is they fail over and over to open on time. I have been going there at 4:30 am M-F with the expectation that they open on time. I can hardly remember the last time I’ve scanned my membership in because these kids show up late or barely on time and I am crunched for time with my workout. If you open at 4:30, your staff needs to be there before that to open the gym and get set up. Do better.

UPDATE!: it's been a couple of months since my review, I've seen no change the responses here lip service. You don't need me to call you. I've told you my concerns fix them.
I understand that this is a new location and it's a work in progress, but a lot of the gym equipment is garbage leftovers from the last gym. None of the handles on any of the machines match. Do you want to see your bill good luck you can't get a manager to respond to you and you can't see it online. In person complaints fall on deaf ears nothing changes so I'm running a review. Hopefully this will spur change. Included picture was from months ago, and they have not improved. It only gotten worse and more sparse. .

Why is it so hot in here?? I’ve been to budget gyms in the area, and they are cooler! Other than the temperature, I do love this gym. But hard to work out when it’s so hot.
EDIT: Mountainside, thanks for the reply. I don’t see the point in calling, since it’s pretty clear how things can improve. Be competitive, and at least match the temperature of the budget gyms that are cooler - you charge 3-4 times as much for membership, but it’s noticeably warmer. I bet a lot of people think they feel warm because they are working out, but the truth is, it should be much cooler for comfortable exercise. I will change my review to 5 stars if I see that you can consistently keep the temperature cooler.
EDIT #2: I was going to get on a few weeks ago and actually add a couple stars because at one point they actually lowered the temperature and kept it there. BUT good thing I didn’t move so fast, because they recently increased the temperature again so it’s warmer, and doesn’t look like they are changing it. If I could, I would give ZERO stars at this point. A comfortable temperature is extremely basic. I rarely enter commercial buildings as warm as Mountainside.

I've really liked going here since Mountainside took over after ESporta left. There's been a lot of great changes. The only (fairly large) issue is that the dumbbells are constantly in a state of chaos. There are a lot missing, and the organization is garbage. Nothing ever seems to be where it should be and it's incredibly frustrating at times. Otherwise, I love all the other changes and additions that were made.

Took a huge dive in the last year. Cheap quality with high price. Since the gym location move, they are all about packing more and more people in, and they lost the vibe that made it a good gym. Very busy at all hours, minimal to no natural light, and poor treatment of members. They also got rid of equipment that was heavily used, and didn’t listen to feedback when they replaced with less functional equipment. It feels like the people who set things up do not exercise, or actually use the gym. It is evident in the turnover from the old location to the new. Not worth the price.

I came to Mountainside as a guest, checking out a new gym in hopes of finding a new place to workout. As a guest, they took my drivers license. During my workout I received some urgent information and had to leave. They refused to give me back my drivers license until I spoke to a sales rep. The guy at the front desk had my drivers license in hand, and would not give it back, even though I explained it was urgent and had to leave ASAP. Horrible experience and will not be back. Step up your sales funnel Mountainside, this is a lazy way to get people to talk to your sales reps. Also, they decided to build one of the smallest saunas and steam rooms and they were packed like sardines which left the most unpleasant aroma in the Locker room.

I was away on a business trip for a month. The first thing I did when I came back was to head to my home gym, the Val Vista location. To my surprise, the gym was closed. I walked up to the door only to be shocked that it moved to Gilbert. Being that it was just one exit up on the 202 I made my way up.
Here me out. I was not happy. Everything was still under construction, the equipment was squashed together. So, I when to the alternative Mountainside locations near me for a couple of weeks, but my system and routine was built for Val Vista. I was very concerned.
I just got back to this location after a short trip. I was pleasantly surprised at how it was finally close to be finished with the renovations. I can honestly say I'm not going to miss Val Vista.
This is my new favorite gym. To my Val Vista gym rats. Give it a chance, you're going to love it.

I just moved back to the area, and the most exciting thing was going back to mountainside. It was so comfortable to workout. It felt like working out at a resort. I loved the rain walls, the nice colors, the smoothie bar, the tv room, the super cozy locker rooms. I actually enjoyed working out, because after felt like being at a spa at a resort. Come to find out, they moved it to an old esporta. It is sterile. Feels like a gross EOS, the Walmart of gyms. It has nothing. I’m EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. I paid more to go to mountainside for the simple point, that it didn’t feel like every other sterile warehouse gym… The reason that Mountainside became as big as it was was because people loved the spa resort feeling. I will look elsewhere. It was awful going in and seeing what this place has done. They have become cookie cutter, and sold out. Yuck.

For a gym that charges over a $100 a month. I would think they would have the decency to least open on time. After waiting a 1/2 hour pastor opening. No one showed up to open the doors and the worst part It's not the first time.

It’s clean, and the people who work here are nice.
Aside from that, the new location is an absolute let-down compared to the Val Vista location. I understand they had to move locations, but the new gym is awful, and as a previous reviewer said, the vibes are completely off.
Val Vista was a really great gym. The new location is an old LA or Esporta and it really feels like one. It’s a big box gym, still under construction, really awkward and cramped feel, bad mirrors, poor layout and equipment selection, and it’s located in a cell-signal dead zone for me, and the wifi sucks, so I can’t listen to any music here or even send texts from the gym.
It’s a shame they advertised so many amenities that won’t even be ready for a few more months, and I’ve tried this spot a couple times to give it an honest chance and each workout was pretty bad. It feels awkward, and I would advise against going to this location. I won’t be returning, I’d rather work out at the alma school location that’s half the size. The reason I joined mountainside was because I hated LA fitness, and now mountainside has become LA fitness at this location.

New location is alright. Clearly reused existing equipment from the LA Fitness and didnt get new stuff which is a little disappointing. The breakdown of the equipment they have is a little strange too. There is 2 lat pulldowns and only 1 place to do cable rows. But there are like 4 individual pieces of equipment for just pullups and dips.... Wish they would get more of the equipment that everyone always uses

This location was previously an Esporta. I was a little disappointed that the gym equipment didn't change. I know it is a fairly new transition but I had my bar set a little higher for this. I hope they can rearrange the set up to be a little more open and not so clustered feeling as Esporta had it. This place will definitely feel more crowded from having the Val vista mountainside people and previous Esporta patrons transitioning. Hopefully this location get better but for now I'll be avoiding this location until they are a little more settled in and new amenities/equipment are available in the future.

4/16/2024 Editing from 1 to 5 Stars with the original review left below for reference. A District Manager named Taylor called me and explained the situation a little bit more today. I didn't realize that this was such a short notice forced move from the owners of the Val Vista property. He explained that the plan is to bring all of the equipment over from Val Vista over the course of the next couple of weeks and that the new location will be updated to the Mountainside standard seen at the other clubs. I'm updating my review because I really appreciate them taking the time to reach out to me and explain what was going on and that they aren't just trying to paint over an Esporta.
4/15/2024 I have been coming to the Val Vista location for about 5 years. It moved to the Old Esporta on Gilbert Road this weekend and that’s pretty much what it is, an Old Esporta with a Mountainside Fitness banner outside and a few logos painted inside. They hardly have any of the equipment that they had at the Val Vista location. There is no longer a powerlifting area, just two squat racks. There are no erg rowers and there isn’t even simple stuff like a seated cable row. I’ve been proud to have a membership at Mountainside because I like the brand, I like the company leadership, and I LOVED the quality of the gym and the people that went there. I was honestly pretty surprised to see that this is how the move was executed and I’m bummed that Mr and the rest of the Val Vista members got left in the dust. I already called the phone number listed on some of the other reviews. The person on the phone was very nice/polite but the answer was “We don’t know when they’re going to move the equipment or how”.

I NEVER leave reviews but oh.my.goodness. The staff here is extremely rude and aggressive. I have encountered a singular nice employee. I was issued a free 5 day pass as I was fully interested in a membership. That part is important. There was no problem getting in for a second day. Come the third day (today) I was taken off of the gym floor after having already been let in and was told I was pretty much blacklisted from the day pass for not going over pricing after the first workout of my 5 day pass? I wasn’t told this was necessary otherwise I would have had no problem whatsoever discussing memberships because as I said, I was interested. I explained this to the staff and was still not allowed to workout unless I purchased a day pass. I had full proof of the original pass being issued. It would be one thing if this situation was handled well but quite frankly both of the girls seemed entitled and rude. The biggest complaint is about the manager Rachel who seemed to be the one calling the shots. I am quite literally telling everyone in the Arizona gym community to avoid this gym and especially this location like the plague. Do better miss Rachel😍 She was clearly very obviously pissy and rude when other people she sat with didn’t want to go through with a membership. Yikkkeeeeesssss
