My daughter has been with the YMCA basketball team for two seasons, and we absolutely love it! The coaches are amazing and always encourage the kids to do their best. The place is clean, well-organized, and the staff are very friendly and supportive. She’s learned great skills, built confidence, and has so much fun every game. Highly recommend this program! 🏀✨

Amazing deals on summer swim lessons! My daughter has loved learning and loves the instructors!! My younger daughter has been getting used to being in the water and playing around while we wait for her sister's swim lesson. The pool is excellent for beginning children getting used to the water as well as experienced swimmers and everyone in between. Staff are friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend any of their swimming classes. So glad we have a great place like this in El Mirage!

This place is a JOKE... and also my biggest financial regret of the year.
After spending hundreds to sign up, I was told there were no more available programs for my kids to attend because they were filled up, and then they require you to pay an additional month after you terminate your membership... so I still owe them $100 next month, even though I've NEVER received a single service from them. $600 lost to the YMCA because the group of teens and the manager running this place has zero care in the world about the people that come here. All they care about are lining their pockets. Avoid this place at all costs!

Our family has really enjoyed being part of the YMCA community! The staffs are friendly and accommodating. BIG SHOUTOUT to Devra and Josie! There’s a strong sense of safety and inclusiveness. Coach Washington has been especially amazing—our kids have grown so much in confidence and skill thanks to his support in basketball. They always look forward to his classes!

We love that there are programs for all age groups, but it would also be great to see more activities for younger children (ages 3+), like gymnastics or beginner ballet—something fun and structured, just like the sports fest for the older kids.

An outdoor pickleball court would also be a great addition! It’s such a fun, growing sport for all ages, and having a dedicated space would bring even more families and members together.

Overall, it’s a great place for families to stay active, learn, and have fun together. Looking forward to more improvements and programs in the future!

Great! The kids really love how Coach Washington helps them get better at playing basketball.

It would be even better if there was a pickleball court and longer swimming hours on the weekends and Y Kids. Also, adding activities like gymnastics or ballet classes for younger kids (ages 3+)—similar to the sports fest offered for the older kids—would be a great addition!

Update: so after 6 years the reply to my post. Notice the lack of information about how to get in touch. They have bad rating and want to bring it up.

So bought a membership for me my wife and family. Hardly used it as they over charge for any kind if activity for the kids. Pool hardly open in the summer. Have of the treadmills are broken. So decided to cancel my subscription and was told there's a 30 day cancellation policy. However when I signed up with the director right there he told me there is no 30day policy. So he lied to me. Now I have to pay for another month that I won't use. My suggestion is to stay away from here and find somewhere better.

I definitely would recommend what the YMCA has to offer to family and friends! It’s a great atmosphere for the entire family. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable the gym is very nice and welcoming and clean . And they have a wide variety of sports and activities for kids to do and enjoy for all ages and teens Aswell. My family and I enjoy the Y a lot as new members of January 2025. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Would not EVER recommend for childcare needs! They are horrible with childcare and you can tell they do not care! The childcare director is emotional when called out on her mistakes and refuses to take any level of accountability for lack of communication. She has made my child feel uncomfortable and will not (despite multiple requests) respond appropriately when something happens with your children!

For instance, my son was physically attacked by another child and they called me to tell me he wasn’t listening but at no point mentioned a physical assault! My son was bit, hit and his shirt was ripped by another child after the child was upset about my son scoring a touchdown in the football game they were playing. Another child I know told me this as I walked in but had I not brought it up with them, they were planning to completely ignore the fact that they did nothing and took weeks to “investigate” the incident. They also took the time to blame my child for bad sportsmanship to justify the other child physically assaulting him. Will include pics for reference if possible. She is inattentive and targets specific children while taking weeks to respond to emails regarding my concerns about the safety of my child. I have requested to speak to someone above the childcare leaders multiple times and have not gotten a response!

Not to mention, the place is a scream house and when you walk in at any given time ( to include first thing in the morning ) it is chaotic with children screaming constantly. My partner and I have both heard children talking back to staff, yelling at them etc to give perspective on the environment. At one point I spoke to a staff member and communicated that I hope he had a good day because of all the chaos and screaming taking place that day.

Just to note, I did not have ANY of these issues when a previous director was in place.

called the mirage,az location "Northwest Valley" - seeking membership at 59th ave location- unable to find on website. after tossed around to different locations, I am given the mirage, az location to ask. VERY RUDE and poor customer service from "Debbie" who was to be the supervisor, when I asked supervisor of what department- hoping membership since my question involves membership and location- Debbie said she is the supervisor of the whole mirage location..and she doesn't know the locations because she just moved here, over talked and hung up. Then someone else calls and claims to be the "supervisor" of membership of mirage location- although she wouldn't say her name. interesting! I said I thought Debbie said she was the supervisor- this new "supervisor" who doesn't want to share her name, said "oh there must be a miscommunication". This was like a bad episode of Seinfeld where everyone is a supervisor and no one has information on location memberships!

As another parent who experienced the same issues with the Northwest Valley YMCA Jr Suns program, I feel compelled to echo the concerns previously mentioned. Our team, too, suffered from the program’s unfair practices and complete disregard for player welfare.

Our assistant coach reported these issues, highlighting the unfair treatment and biased game setups we endured, but there was no action taken. This neglect peaked during the playoffs, where an unjust bracketing led to a demoralizing loss and, worse, physical injuries. After the game, we had three players with injuries, a direct result of the program’s negligence and the excessively competitive environment they fostered.

It’s alarming to see a youth sports program show such indifference to the well-being and safety of its players. This experience has been eye-opening, and I strongly urge other parents to steer clear of this program. It’s crucial to find a setting that prioritizes the health, safety, and positive development of young athletes.

Source: Google

★ 1

Parents, my advice is straightforward: stay far away from the Northwest Valley YMCA Jr Suns program. Our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. The program is plagued by unfair treatment, complete disregard for player welfare, and a dismissive attitude towards concerns raised by parents and teams.

During our season, we faced a series of biased decisions that culminated in a demoralizing playoff loss (60-11), thanks to an extremely unfair bracket placement. Our repeated attempts to address these issues were met with indifference. Even more distressing was the program director, Mr. Mark Gretter’s suggestion that our complaints were causing personal animosity among the staff.

This program not only failed to provide a positive experience but actively diminished our young players’ love for the sport. If you’re considering this program for your child, my advice is to run in the opposite direction and find a program that values fairness, respect, and the developmental needs of young athletes.

YMCA Volleyball as a whole is a joke. High School boys should not be playing against middle school females. No way. YMCA needs to get rid of this Co-ed nonsense. The WNBA doesn't play the NBA and at this age level the genders need their own leagues. Fix it.
Yet again the local YMCA has failed our children. All high school boys again against middle school girls in volleyball. If I were the parents of the boys I would be ashamed to have boys play in that situation. I'm guessing the boys can't hang in an all boys league. YMCA do better.

The help has drastically changed. These are friendly, but… not the same. Main complaint is the place is dirty. The front entrance is just gross. Look’s like some one threw up. The windows are awful. A monkey could do better. The floors are dirty and equip covered in dust and dust around equip. Its really gone down hill in the last 6 months. Its closed on Sunday why don’t they get professional into clean. Don’t say its non profit. I worked at non profit. I know how that works. Good thing we still have wipes to clean our machines we use.

Nothing spectacular about this place but I have not experienced any negativity like some of the other reviewers. It is kind of pricy for what I use it, though you have to consider the size and the amount of activities they provide. I just go in for a 1 hour workout on the machines and leave. I thought about using the locker room and showers, but you never know nowadays if you come across any creeps like someone else mentioned. I receive a discount, and pay through my employer so if I ever decide to cancel , I don’t think I’ll have as hard a time like others. I’ll keep coming here until something changes my mind.

I would be careful here in the near future unless the policies have been put into affect across all YMCA immediately. The YMCA is proud supporters of letting grown adult men to shower naked along your young female children. Nor do they care about how you feel. An will ban you for making it known. Good thing I don’t have a membership and have no problem speaking for my friends and family. I would suggest finding a new facility to take care of your young children because wether it’s happening now or in the future, The YMCA will allow grown adult men to shower with children in the women’s locker room and find that okay.

I agree with Jane's comment....sports program gives preferential treatment DEFINITELY....they allow DUSTIN and MARY to run this facility in any way they see fit....as a mom and a grandma, I can attest to the fact that this facility IS NOT a healthy environment for diversity at ALL...Torrence has NO SAY, and it is obvious that they have made him the token of the facility....I am APPALLED at how this YMCA is being ran compared to the ones in other states....and complaining does not help....through speaking to other parents we found out Mary's daughter ANDREA use to run the Christown YMCA sports program the SAME WAY, so apparently it's a 'family affair' when it comes to deciding who works for them...NEPOTISM at its finest. To anyone who is moving to the valley or recently moved here, DO NOT sign your children up for the sports program at this facility or Christown....MARY, DUSTIN, AND ANDREA are creating a very TOXIC environment...and the president of the Valley YMCA is ALLOWING IT!!!! If I can stop ANY family from experiencing what we have experienced, then I am at peace. DO BETTER YMCA....SERIOUSLY.

This YMCA is unorganized and tan poorly. My son plays youth basketball and they cancel practices which we already paid for. We are forced to practice outside which is too hot, but it’s the only way we get to practice. Yea The schedule is non existent and changes hourly. We had a game that was scheduled for 4:30 and just found out it was rescheduled for 1:30. It is tough to accommodate this YMCA with changes being made at the last minute.

We've been coming here for about 4 years now. Our daughter has flourished when we got her enrolled in the programs at this YMCA. She really came out of her shell and gained SO much confidence when we signed her up for Volleyball. Her Coach, Coach Elder is hands down amazing with these kids. He teaches them the skills they need to become better players and most importantly teammates to each other. We have so much respect for what he does for us and our daughter here. During day care hours the bigger day care area that's meant for day care and the hours day care is open the staff just sits in it and uses an lunch
room.. sorry I'm not paying 90$ to have my child uncomfortable no water no restroom and definitely no air or even window to look outside.. the child day care concept went into the trash there they don't care ..

If I could give this YMCA a zero I would. Do not give YMCA your credit card. You’ll never be able to get out of their billing system. This morning Amanda was extremely rude to me while I was checking on why I keep getting billed $40 for membership I never used, I had had to go in person to terminate several months ago and I’m still getting billed! She ranted and raved that I should have known what I was doing when I signed up for membership. I was astonished to be lectured while I’m checking on why I keep getting billed to my credit card. Poor customer service skills at this YMCA, will never do business at YMCA again.

Chlorine levels in the pool are off the charts. My family swam for a few hours, over a week later our skin and hair is extremely dried out, a garment worn in the pool is totally bleached. Never had this happen before and over the years visiting Surprise, Peoria and this YMCA. Something is up with the water.

I had contacted them mid April to possibly reserve the pool for a function. They had taken my contact info as well as details for the event; such as, date and time, number of people attending and age of people attending. Then I got the "if you dont hear anything by X date, call back."

After numerous calls, speaking to a number of managers, and a total of 3 requested "officially" inputted I heard nothing for 2 weeks. Then when I called back today I was informed by "the supervisor" that pool reservations were not available. After a month of calling, leaving messages, and "we'll get back to you"s I get told they don't offer that service.

The way it was handled was super unprofessional. The supervisor would not even talk to me directly but only relay information through the super polite woman that answered the phone at the front desk.

The environment is great for families and they have a wide variety of classes. Yoga on Saturdays with Natalie and Total Body Conditioning on Thursdays with Sara are my favorites. They only thing I would change is the opening time, they open at 6:00 am and is hard to make a routine before work, I wish they opened at 5:00 AM, but that is difficult as not too many people show up that early.

Well this is the first and last time we schedule and hold a party/event. We paid in advance for 3 hours and found out the day of/today as we set up that the a/c is not working. Multiple pregnant women and elderly folks in a hot room is definitely what we want! I feel bad for my wife and her guests I'm the one that encouraged her to hold her Baby shower there this is unbelievable and breaks my heart that I did that to her if I would have known something lime this was going to take place I would have rescheduled or just held the event somewhere else! Waste of money is what it feels like because we could have done it at a park outside for free in a cabana especially for how hot it was inside at least it would have been less muggy outside. Just started working out here about a month ago. The prices are amazing ($57/MONTH) compared to Mountainside Fitness that charges $100+ a month for all 9 of us. The facility is clean. Some of the machines were I little dusty but not too bad. My only complaint is regarding the staff that take care of the small children. The morning staff are amazing. There are more mature women and one guy. They take care of my twins well. The 4-8pm shift on the other hand are not so great. They are younger maybe college kids or straight out of high school with no experience and bad attitudes. There's one girl there with thick drawn on eyebrows....I have literally walked back out of the building when she is there. She interrupted me in the middle of my workout to ask me if it was ok to give my son a bottle because he was crying. Like why do you have to ask? I prepared everything for you to take care of my twins. So I only go in the mornings now.

Very good YMCA. Pool is small, but ok. Gym is great, and basketball court is always crowded. Friendly staff. Wish they had cubbies holes for your stuff, like the Goodyear Y.

It's good but they don't have a lot of machines to work out and if you whant to play basketball you should take a picture of the schedule because they have a lots of practices there, volleyball games, tournaments and when that's happening you can't be there playing basketball.

They are ALL about the money. Ridiculously high rates, wouldn't let me include my 18 year old son in the membership without MORE money. Then charge extra for programs for my kids. And THEN charge more fees when I didn't have enough money in my acct to pay once and was a week late. Won't cancel without an in person visit (no phone cancellations) and then charge for ANOTHER month if you don't give 30 days notice. I have spent over $300 since joining and have only gone twice. Absolutely ridiculous, a hassle to cancel, and just exorbitant fees!

Reviewed the website for the activities for Seniors. It led me to believe it had water aerobics for seniors and other senior activites. The phone number referenced on the website was evidently to a general call center. I was informed there were NO activities for seniors. I suggest they take this information off their website saying they do as it is very misleading.

There no way I'm paying $40 a month I don't even go to the YMCA everyday only like once or twice a month or not even a month so I would rather just pay $10 everytime I come to the YMCA

Great place to work out! Plays current music. Plenty of locker space friendly staff and clean pool! It doesn't reek of chlorine! Usually not to busy so there's no wait to work out and plenty of weights.

It's a great place to work out or just to go swimming or play some indoor basket ball! Family friendly and it's never to busy to get in a good workout I attend on a daily basis and never have a problem finding parking or a locker. Clean bathroom and well stocked shower and restrooms always clean.

Awesome facility with pool, basketball courts, free weights, machines, classrooms, and even a kids place where they can hang out while you get a quick workout in. So much more! Really priced well for what you get. Oh and it doesn't get too busy.

I can't afford it. When I saw the initial prices minus the membership fees (which were waived when they opened), I about fell out of my chair. I had reservations about this partnership with the City of El Mirage. Those concerns were not unfounded. How the city council and leadership could possibly think that this was a great deal for the residents of El Mirage when the Y showed them the proposed membership plans is beyond me. How can a single parent with one child afford $56 a month for recreation services? Have you looked around at other for-profit gyms in the area? I can go to a for-profit gym down the road with childcare and classes for under $30/month. How did it get the name Northwest Valley YMCA? This was supposed to be recreation services for the residents of El Mirage.
