Be WARNED, in the timespan of 1 month of a new family membership, myself and my children* have been personally victimized by older male club members at this gym.
Incidents involving 3 different men, in the main cardio/weight room have, 1. Positioned himself to stare and get a view during exercises on the rowing machine.
2. Exposed his complete genitalia in the personal training room. 3. Took pictures of my child while they were using an ab machine.
Gym staff have been made aware and methods of how to notify them of such incidents in the future have been given.
*This gym, especially in the high volume areas would benefit from security cameras and posted signs about suspicious behaviors towards other members, not being tolerated. And or signs that directly state unsafe behaviors and use of personal cell phones to take pictures in these said areas are not allowed.
*Northwest YMCA is: organized, clean, friendly upon arrival, communicative, and offers a wide variety of classes and programs.
**Review is strictly based on experiences with MALE club members during the month of October 2025.

My kids and I do everything at the Y. They have such awesome clubs and sports for kids. They are all super nice when I come in I am always greeted. They have a nice GYM, basketball courts, swimming it's just all amazing and I recommend the Y to anyone. I am on a 7 day trial period and this place fails to impress. Machines are out of order and even though they want you to wipe down the machines after use, many times the spray bottles are empty. When I took an empty bottle to the front desk (3 people were just sitting around idly) one person said well fill them later. When told of the broken machine, the guy haughtily said: “well, this is the first we have heard about it. We don’t know unless you tell us.” What? Why aren’t they out periodically checking on the machine and out on the floor interacting with the clients? The staff here seems arrogant and aloof. Not into providing the highest quality experience

They have great fitness classes for adults and many fun programs for kids. My kids are in volleyball and swim lessons and are enjoying them. However, we joined for the summer and the older kids area has limited summer hours (M-Th 4pm-7pm). I was disappointed by this because my kids are too young to stay home alone & I wanted to be able to do fitness classes, but very few are available during that time frame. The older kid's room was also stripped of all games & activities (they were moved away for the summer camps) so if you can't afford the summer camps or can't fit them into your schedule there is nothing for older kids to do at the facility day-to-day. Unfortunately that means I dont really get to work out this summer, which was the reason for getting a membership :(

Ok here is the thing. I don’t particularly LIKE to exercise. I know it’s good for me. Blah blah blah. But I have been getting up at four thirty (ok four forty five) in the morning 5 times a week for years now. Why? Why on earth would I do that you ask?!
Community. That’s why. My classes - led by Jess, Julie, and Christi - are a community of people. Weird, mouthy, wonderful people. They are gonna know if I don’t show up. They are going to encourage me to quit whining and get it done already.
So if you are looking for more than equipment, this is the place to call your “home gym”.

This YMCA has been an absolute God send, including the people we have met there, particularly the Learn & Play staff. My Husband and I both grew up attending YMCAs, and now I'm so happy to regularly attend as an adult who is able to bring my kiddo along! Learn & Play is one of the main reasons we go there. It is my Son's FAVORITE place to go and never wants to leave. EVERY staff member that watches our kids there is phenomenal. I genuinely trust my Son in their care, which gives me the much needed peace of mind to focus on filling my cup whether it's working out or just taking a moment to breathe while I get some steps in. The equipment and facility is always clean, the staff in every department are friendly, the people that go there are friendly, and they have some pretty cool classes! The NW YMCA has become a staple in our lives, and I'm so thankful to have this kind of outlet for me and my Son both, especially being a home schooling, stay at home Mom! THANK YOU YMCA AND STAFF! 🩷

The child care at the gym is absolutely amazing and wonderful! The staff clearly loves what they do and it shows in the way they care for the children. They’re warm, attentive, and create such a safe, fun environment. It gives me so much peace of mind knowing my child is in great hands while I work out. Highly recommend!

I am so happy we joined the Y! The instructors have been awesome and the staff are so welcoming. Honestly, the free childcare was a huge reason why we could join. My kids get to have a great time in Learn & Play and I get a little time to focus on making my health and wellness a priority.

Love my experience there! Especially the child care. I have two toddlers. The kids have tons of fun. The staff is kind and involved! They are all experienced, and remember the names of my kids. There are crafts, pretend play, and outside play. Best of all: no screens!!
It means they get to have a good time and I have some time to work on my health!

I love the YMCA- we started back in March and it has been perfect for our family. This is the first time I have been able to go to a gym and workout by myself consistently. I love their Learn and Play center, I feel so comfortable with their staff and my kiddos 4 and 5 look forward to going. The staff truly cares about the kiddos and provides a fun environment for all kiddos

I made the switch from crossfit and I love it here. The child care here is absolutely amazing! It is more than just a child care, they do fun crafts, holiday parties, and fun "themed" days during the year. The cardio/weights area is big and they have almost everything anyone could want or need for a good workout. I've only tried one class but they seem awesome. They seem to be near full most of the time. I have been very happy to become a member.

I just celebrated my first anniversary as a member of the Y. I think this is an excellent facility and I love that it caters to the entire community… young and old. The equipment rivals that of any state of the art gym. A variety of group classes are offered, something for everyone. I attend 4-5 times a week and certainly get my money’s worth. I highly recommend this Y.

Best gym to go to if you have a family. We have been members on and off for years. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. My kids love going to the AYC and learn and play. They are always doing something fun for the kids. The staff are so interactive, and I love that they have the kids plugged in and really empower them to make the space theirs. The teen center has changed a lot the last six months or so, you can tell they are giving all kids a place to go. the older kids have a place to hang out. It really is a hidden gym. We love that Thursdays they do movie night. My kids go in watch a movie and I sit in the lobby and read a book! I hope that sticks. Vanessa is usually the one I talk to, and you can just tell she really puts her heart into the place. All of them do, they get to know the kids by name and there’s been so many times they help remind my kids to do their homework. All you have to do is tell them I think that’s actually really cool, my son says they even help him with homework. Everyone there is great and they seem to enjoy working there with the kids. It’s come alive these last few months for sure. They recently put in a garden. My kids and I enjoy sitting out on the patio and having a snack and playing jinga. I do wish the gym was open more, my kids want to play basketball and they say they can’t go outside because I guess they have sports practice there but then they can’t really get into the inside gym either.
If you guys could find away around that this would really be perfect.

I have never been a ymca member but I have been paying to use the Thad Terry pool for almost four years and I have seen a steady decline over the past couple of years. They put in a new rule where we have to go to the front desk to check in, even though I’m not a member, then walk down to the pool, which is a challenge with my joint problems. And to make it worse I saw one of their lifeguards asleep in the check in window this past Tuesday morning. Then I hear Keira has left and she was the only person who ever seemed to listen to the concerns of the pool. It saddens me to see what used to be a very enjoyable part of my day become such a hastle where no one seems to care anymore.

Definitely something to check out.

My family and I have been coming here for a little bit now. The gym is what we mainly use and we love it. The equipment is newer and taken care of very nicely. It’s always sanitized by the people using it and the staff. They’re always on top of maintenance and get it taken care of fairly quickly. We usually go in the mornings or noonish and it’s never busy, everyone is super friendly and encouraging. I’ve had two girls approach me and compliment my form as well as help me with my form for exercises I’m not as familiar with. The atmosphere is amazing. The staff is incredible. We take our son to learn and play and I love the women in there! My son used to cry every single time he went and they were persistent on working with him to feel safe and comfortable, and if he wouldn’t calm down they would come find me after trying for a hot minute to get him to calm down which I appreciate that way he’s not just forced to cry the whole time I workout if he’s just refusing to settle down. Now he loves going and is opening up more and more to the staff in the learn and play. I only know Ms Audrey’s name but every single staff member in that learn and play deserves a shout out because they’re all amazing. They also gave me a rose, a picture frame of my son, and a poem for Mother’s Day. It was so sweet and I love the effort they made going out of there way for all the moms ❤️ the front desk staff is awesome too! I haven’t talked to them as much since I just check in but they’re always welcoming, they answer any questions I have, and our short conversations are always friendly and enjoyable. I highly recommend coming here. We used to go to LA fitness and I prefer the northwest YMCA over that 100%

I'm a swimmer and the pool is heated and pleasant with nice lifeguards. However the door from the pool to the locker room is always locked and the lifeguards will unlock it - except most mornings they won't because of staff shortage. Some winter mornings it is 35 to 40 degrees and we are expected to wait in wet suits for them to call the desk to come to the other end of the building and unlock it- whenever they can. I have asthma so it's definitely a tense wait:(
The management is completely uncaring and unwilling to help. I've seen people using a toothbrush to keep the door open, which is laughable if it wasn't so maddening. I've swam at different pools in many states and have never ever encountered a pool that denies easy access to warm locker rooms.

Pros: Lots of machines to choose from and they are kept clean. The staff is nice and greet you throughout your stay. There is a center for kids which is also nice. Sanitation station is good because they offer spray and wipes. Their machines have fans on them which help keep me cool.
Cons: Limited weekend hours. Doesn’t offer hand sanitizer, just sanitizer for the machines. The machines hardly ever accept your information for the workouts to be connected to the app.

We have been members for many years, haven’t been in awhile because of an injury. So we start back to the body pump classes and really start to enjoy them although they don’t run smoothly. There’s only so much room and nobody lines up as coming in. Then when the door opens people just start being very rude trying to get their spot. Goodness people!!! We almost had a fight twice in 4 weeks of going. They should have a line to the mats and as each person gets a mat they get their spot. We are looking for a new place to workout which is sad. But I have asked that they get a way to run this more smoothly but they just look at me like it’s me being rude. Honestly a gal was poking my husband in the back with her mat saying I usually have this spot when he finally turned around he told her not to touch him again. This is uncalled for!

The reply to my original review was just posted publicly, but not to me.
They added a "boxing station" right against an aisle. It has a punching bag that hangs and one that tips over. Regularly have people trying to get down the narrow aisle while someone throws kicks or punches while standing in the aisle.
The y responded with a lie that they don't have these features, but the pool is their most defining feature and the boxing station is one of their newest.
They don't really provide the services they advertise. More expensive than other gyms, but there's a pool and basketball courts - so the cost may make sense. There's a consistent problem with pool class organization and hyper-aggressive boxing equipment users. They have Martial Arts types throwing kicks from a walking aisle. No control and no forethought.

Nothing like a closet full of chairs that we have used for the last whole year to watch our son practice basketball and play games, but according to the staff today the YMCA chairs are not for people coming to support the basketball leagues. They have no problem charging kids to play, but God forbid you use a "YMCA" chair to enjoy the game and sport the teams. As usual YMCA makes rules as they choose. Not caring about anyone once they take your money. Make sure you bring your own chairs the ones they have are only for show. Not to be used my paying customers.

I have been a member of the NW YMCA for about a year now and honestly I do not have any complaints. The weightroom and cardio room have so much equipment which is always being cleaned and fixed when needed, it's pretty amazing considering how many members this gym has. There are several classed throughout the week, and large gyms that cater to both the youth and adults alike with open gym or pre-organized sporting events or classes. The pool with the water slide is enjoyable and relaxing, and the lap pool is large and open year round. As a parent of a 3 year old and a 9 month old, the childwatch program has been spectacular and really solidifies just how amazing this gym is for families.

If you work and want to play basketball go somewhere else. They constantly give the courts to unsupervised children who are ill behaved and is definitely a safety hazard. Just awful use of courts. Otherwise I have been going here for well over 12 years and is very nice. I give only 3 stars since they will not communicate in finding common ground on the courts issue.
8-12-19 Despite the schedule saying the gym was open court they scheduled volleyball players ahead of us, effectively wasting my and several other members time. The person who reserved the time actually said we could play till they got set up but an employee named Jennifer Zagrodzki kicked us off the court while openly admitting she was doing it for NO REASON. HORRIBLE PRACTICE AND UNACCEPTABLE. you would not advertise a sale and not honor the price, why is this anymore acceptable??

Still able to exercise in the gym at least, even though the pool has been closed due to the weather.

Terrible changes ever since the new Fuhrer ( Tony) came into power. It's all about the dollar as far as he is concerned yet they claim to be not for profit. Everyone gets hassled for their scan in card. You get a different answer when ever you ask about the pool. Don't get me started on the Youth sports..what a disaster. This place used to be great for families but at 39 dollars we can find cheaper. What a shame.

Great YMCA. The equipment is decent except they don't have the octane crossfit machine. AND it used to be open til 10 pm and now they close at 9. That's not good for people who work. I go after dinner to train and it doesn't give me enough time to complete my workout. That's too bad

The ymca is terrible. The website is never correct when it comes to open gym times. LA fitness is way better for someone who actually wants to come and get their body in better shape. It could be different when it comes to other facilities, but this northwest ymca is a joke. Would not recommend to anyone who is looking for an actual gym experience.

My whole family loves it and it's a clean and friendly facility. The only down side is that the weight room is a little small.

Great summer camp for kids, both my kids ages 8 and 12 attend and have for several years. I have noticed an improvement to the camp this year, organized, and safe. We love the valet service for pick up and drop offs very convienant.

Me and my family like the gym, very much. Reason for only 2 stars that we were so excited for the pool. First, no communication between desk and pool staff, we had to walk out to find out information. Second, the kids section were closed. Third, saltwater? Why have saltwater in a pool? The explanation we got was this; it taste saltwater because of all sweat from people that swimming. What? Are you kidding me? Its like I'm taking a bath with 30 people at the same time, disgusting. Chlorine keeps water clean, not body salt

A little bit pricey for the family ($65), but if you have several kids and need somewhere to go while you workout, it is already built into the price of the monthly fee. Definitely worth it in the summertime when going swimming with kids and using their family locker rooms to change.

My family and I have been happy members of this YMCA for over ten years. Overall I'd say they do a great job and provide good value for the money. Sure there have been minor issues over the years but they have a lot to deal with, a limited budget, and are doing a world of good in the community. We will continue to be members, to donate above the cost of our membership fee, and to recommend the NW YMCA for years to come.

The YMCA is a great place to workout, swim, drop if your child of any age, its also a cool place to hang and meet new people. I have been to this Y multiple times and one in Tennessee a couple and I have never been disappointed at any YMCA

Not impressed with youth sports program manager. I registered my son for soccer well within the allotted time frame. I was told I would receive a phone call or email before the season started. After not hearing anything I called the NW YMCA multiple times. After the 3rd voice mail I finally received a call back and was told the season already started. When I expressed my disappointment the individual in charge told me nonchalantly " it happens, people get missed and paper work gets lost quite often" I am disappointed with the attitude and attention to detail. Its not the end of the world but as I looked up the phone number I saw the "write a review" tab and am taking the opportunity to express my disappointment.
