As a newer member I’m honestly a little concerned that there is no cap on the amount of children that can be at the gym childcare center. Some days they have 10+ very small children, like under 2, and seem very overwhelmed. It doesn’t seem very safe at times because they are not able to closely watch each child. I strongly feel like there should be another adult present. Especially when a parent is picking up a child, they are talking to the parent and not paying attention to the kids. The gym itself is nice and not too busy but I’m second guessing leaving my kids at the childcare now which is a bummer because that’s a big reason why I joined

Love this Y. Been coming about a year. There is so much to choose from. All kinds of classes, all day, every day. I haven't done free weights, but the area never seems too crowded. Has a heated Olympic size pool and water aerobic classes. The front desk folks are always pleasant and informative. Special shout out to Andrea and Alice, my favorites!

Dear YMCA Administrator

I am writing to express my deep concern about the treatment my 4-year-old daughter has received from Ms. Mac, a staff member at the childcare center. Despite the YMCA's mission to strengthen communities and promote inclusivity, my daughter has been made to feel unsafe, uncomfortable, and excluded.

Over the past two months, Ms. Mac has consistently displayed dismissive behavior towards my daughter. She has rolled her eyes when my daughter asked simple questions and deliberately left her out of group activities, such as art crafts. These incidents have occurred repeatedly, forcing me to advise my daughter to avoid interacting with Ms. Mac.

I attempted to discuss this matter with the supervisor, seeking an explanation for Ms. Mac's behavior. Unfortunately, the supervisor seemed unconcerned and unresponsive, leaving me to wonder if discrimination based on race or ethnicity might be a factor. As a parent, it is distressing to think that my child may be subjected to such treatment.

The YMCA's mission statement emphasizes the importance of strengthening communities and promoting inclusivity. I urge you to investigate this matter and take necessary actions to ensure that all children, regardless of their background, feel welcome and valued at the childcare center.

I would appreciate a prompt response regarding the steps you will take to address this situation.

I absolutely do not recommend the Kids Day Camp program! Yesterday while my daughter was swimming a little boy came up from behind her and stuck his fingers in her swimsuit bottoms. My daughter proceeded to tell him to stop and the little boy kept doing it and ended up fondling her. I taught my daughter body safety and to use her words. If there was supervision at the swimming pool this would have never happened. Get your kids out now! And if you are parents looking for a kids day camp; don't ever choose this one. Let's keep our children safe!!!

It’s a very clean place. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Love the atmosphere there. Basketball program is a wonderful experience for youth. The karate classes were good except for losing the instructor but they recently added one. Swimming lessons were great and finally my daughter got to a yellow band after 3 swimming classes.

Very nice place and we'll up kept. The staff are very nice and seem genuinely happy with being here and helping and servicing its customers. The skatepark says closed but technically still accessable just the lights don't come on at night but the local community tries it's best to upkeep and give the park the attention it deserves. Love coming here to spend some of my free time in town.

I haven’t been here, but I have been at the park when the children are at the park with the adults and the adults are not nice to the children. They’re always yelling at them one yelled at them that they were only going to give them water once it’s 76° outside right now. another one yelled at them Because they were pushing each other too fast on some sort of swing, which I understand, but at no point did that staff try to talk to them before yelling at them they’re definitely not nice to the kids. 4/3 1pm-2pm was the day and time this happened

My family had beem visiting this YMCA couple years now for away volleyball, and now we have had two encounters with same staff member, once her grabbing my husbands arm to sign in. Then, after a game approaching us in front of a crowd about supposedly being negative with our own volleyball girls, and accusing us in front of everyone, very unprofessional, when this never occured. She has now basically targeted us twice within few weeks of each other. Very unprofessional and never should feel this way at a family place.

I have been a member here since the day it opened in 1969.
This is my home away from home as my oldest daughter stated when she became the pool director years ago. I raised my children here and will continue growing my grandchildren here. I love the Ott YMCA! Since the first day that I started going, I felt welcomed. Almost every time I come in, I am told hello by name from the desk attendants. The gym and locker rooms are always kept clean. They have a great variety of equipment and machines to use and offer personal training. Plus the sports programs for kids are awesome, my nephew has played 3 basketball seasons and I’ve seen so much progress after each one. I really love my Y! ☺️

I wanted to give some feedback on my daughter's volleyball season that just ended.  Her team was called the Scorpions.  I liked her coach, she seemed knowledgeable and energetic.  However, the overall season was a bit of a joke.  Rachel stacked her own team with all the previous players that had the most skill and proceeded to humiliate other teams.  Our team was made up of several players that could not even get the ball over the net on serves while she had an entire roster of kids that could serve overhand at high speeds.  She also had two very large boys that were very intimidating to our small girls.  These boys were my size (5'10 or taller)  The likelihood of one of them spiking into one of our tiny girls was ever present and concerning.  I am sorry for my kid and the others that signed up for this humiliating experience.  We will never sign her up for that again at the Y.  On another note, the officiating was terrible in this last game.  The most giant of the two giant boys continuously palmed the ball and basically threw it over the net.  I addressed this with him in a respectful manner at the game's end and he said "I know, I asked to stop it".  Which the boy never did throughout the game.  The whole experience for us on the team with mostly all newbies was not good, at all.  I believe Rachel is to blame for this calamity and changes need to be made before some poor little girl gets destroyed by a high-schoolers spike.

the place is great. i primarily go for the open basketball gym and weight room, but i have severe problems with the people who play basketball. twice this week someone has threatened me because they want to get away with foul play. some kid threatened my life today after my cousin called him for charging in game.

We have been coming here for 8 years. Never had one problem with anything. My daughter has done a lot of activities they offer. The fitness classes are good. We have gotten the scholarship many times and when I need to cancel they do it with no problems. It’s not 100% perfect and updated like LA fitness or Chuze like the negative comments say, however it is a FAMILY gym and facility. Great price for the whole family to be able to do all different kinds of things. Everything is always clean and working.

I have to sign up for no floor yoga at 11:00 PM every week to go to yoga. That's awfully inconvenient. I don't want to stay up that late just to be able to go to yoga. Whoever designed this was not considerate of others at all. When I asked at the front desk the man poo pooed me and had a giant attitude.

Good place to swim and newly updated gym equipment. One issue I have is why they are keeping their split schedule. It's hardly busy there and they say it's to deep clean before they reopen in afternoon.

LA Fitness, Chuze and the other big chains are wide open with same restrictions but are open all day. It's a little frustrating because my schedule varies and when I have time to run in and lift or run I can't because it is closed.

I hope they change the hours this summer because if not I'm going to have to cancel my pass and go else where. I don't want to because I love the atmosphere but if they are limiting their members I have no choice as paying full price for half open is not worth it. Please make the change.

RJ and Joanna have completely changed the way this place feels and make it feel completely uncomfortable and makes patrons feel unwelcome and restricted on happiness and fun. Not even due to policy changes or rules, but just general attitude and how things are handled with members. Rude and abrupt and without reasoning when enacting the “discipline”. Used to feel like a family, now feels like a low security prison.

I've only been going here for two weeks and would give it a 5 star so far because of the friendly staff, the 2 hours of child watch and the fact that me and my kiddos have enjoyed it all so far. However, I give it 3 right now because of an incident I saw while swimming with my 2 yr old there two weeks ago. My son and I were swimming during the same time as the preschool class. Two of the boys were in trouble and were being punished by not getting to swim. They were told to sit and watch for the entire hour while every one else swam. And they were crying and screaming the entire time. For an hour. There were two preschool "teachers" there, both swimming with the rest of the kids. They both let the boys sit there crying and screaming. I understand disciplining your child and losing a privilege if you've gotten in trouble, but to punish them for an hour? This seems excessive and careless. I was going to put my son in the program once he is 3, but I seriously question it now. I wouldn't want my children treated like that. Does anyone know anything about the Lil Otters disciplinary guidelines? I know for child watch they let a child cry for 10 minutes before contacting the parent. To intentionally distress a child is a whole other story. Discipline and move on, don't drag it out for an hour in front of the entire class and others to watch.

I went this morning to register my 3 year old son for preescool. When the receptionist told me I couldn't leave him today because they have a policy of 24 hour to put them in the system I ask to talk to someone else just to explain me why. She went to the back and came with this woman her name is Anna Jones the accountant.
First of all she was already upset for even coming to talk to me.
Anna Jones had the worst customer service skills. She was really rude to me. She raised her voice without reason and she handled me my registration application and she put it like: go with the rules or leave. She didnt have to do that! I told her first of all she wasnt the owner -if she was I wouldn't be doing business with her- and second of all she didnt have to talk to me down.
I rather to do bussiness somewhere else because if they treat parents like that I wonder what customer service he is going to get.
Bad for the Y when they hire peiple like Anna Jones.

BEWARE OF HAVING YOUR KIDS PLAY BASKETBALL THROUGH THE YMCA TUCSON AREA!!!

Director of youth basketball will not do anything about PARENT bullying a 5th grade injured player.
When a certain incident was brought to his attention, he did nothing about the abuse. Instead he sided with the lies of the Tucson Dragon club since they are the ones that give him the most roster sign ups. Probably for his job security.. ;( He is obviously friends with the owner of the Tucson Dragon Club, A club owner that obviously allows parents to be verbally abusive to kids. What a great example these sick people are giving kids.
This is now being reported to the YMCA corporate office and hopefully something will be done about this abuse.

I feel like 2 stars is being generous. My daughter participated in the summer camp in Vail. I feel like almost every day she was coming home injured. More than twice she came home with broken blood vessels in her eyes. She said they were playing dodge ball. I feel that, that sport is for older kids, not 6-7 year olds. Also my friends daughter was beat up by another kid at the camp, she is only 6. The YMCA did not contact my friend at any point of time of that day to notify her. They found out through an "incident report" at the camp during pick up. I feel like when incidents like that happen, parents need to notified as soon as it happens. Also the kid that started the fight was able to participate in the camp. The staff at the camp sites are nice people, but some of them are no way qualified in taking care of kids. Also the coordinator Olivia, you can never get in touch with her. I had a couple of questions about adding an extra week of camp for my daughter, which is aloud, and I was going to pay for it, I could never get her to call me back or e-mail me back. The front office staff there never had any answers and always sent me straight to her, but could never converse. Something needs to change with the communication during your summer camps. We parents that are paying over 150.00 a week to take care of our kids deserve better, and so do our children. We want them to feel safe and well taken care of when we are at work. Thanks

Going to the Y is extremely important to me and this Y is not my home Y as I'm from Ontario, Canada. I was greeted with a smile by front staff who were very helpful and welcoming. The outdoor pool situation is amazing! This Y has lots of parking, a small towel is available per person. Large change room and body wash/shampoo combo is available. Kudos to cleaning staff - super clean. Bring your own lock is my only recommendation. I will definitely return to Ott Y when I am back in Tucson again!!

I am so disappointed in how dirty the OTT Y is....everywhere. I have written two complaints in the last year, but nothing happens. The Yoga mats are really dirty (and we lay down on them) and the floor is so dirty where we do Yoga and TaiChi that my brand new sneakers were black after one hour on that floor. I doubt it has ever been mopped because I have never in the years I’ve been going seen it clean. It is not just that floor but the bathrooms and other workout areas. I would never use the pool because if the rest is so dirty. After spending so much funding for new facilities I would have hoped they also considered regular cleaning. Other than the dirt I love the place, but I have special shoes I wear to OTT YMCA and would never enter my car or home with them on.

VERY disappointing, moved to Tucson from Clarksville TN and the YMCA there was fantastic. Here, the staff at the OTT center made my family and I feel like they were a burden from day one. The child care was ok, but not very secure. The equipment is old and the TV's are small. Overall experience terrible and when we did finally cancel, we were told no problem, only to be billed again a week later. When I called, a tired sounding gentleman (Louis) informs me I must cancel 30 days in advance?! The opposite of what we were told when we cancelled 2 weeks earlier. Avoid this place, poor service, poor equipment and poor staffing.

I've rated this place 3-stars because everything is great except for the child care and politics. The child care is good, but I don't like the play area for some reason. There doesn't seem to be a good mix of interactive toys and it seems dingy. Again, I'm not saying that it's terrible, but it's not as good as other YMCA facilities; simply. The staff here is helpful and everyone is nice as well. The final reasoning as to why I'm not giving this thing 5-stars is because this YMCA tried to send out emails and promotionals for a piece of Tucson legislation that was "vote yes for Pima County Bonds" and to me, a YMCA shouldn't be involved with telling it's members to vote one way or another. The same reason I think Church officials should stay out of people's voting tendencies. Other than these two things, it's a good place.
