An amazing shout out to the payson golf course for hosting my daughterβs 16th birthday. Such a great venue for events. Food is amazing. The venue is affordable and the staff was so great

I play there it least once a week and it is always a good time. The staff are great and most greens and fairways are great as well. It is a four star because some of the greens have big spots in them that could really mess up your putts and chips. And the roughs on some of the holes is just straight up dirt. Overall good course.

I think calling this place a "goat ranch" is a huge over-statement. There is very little rough off fairway but if you like hard pan with weeds you'll love it here!
The tee boxes were horrific. Surprisingly, the greens were actually pretty good.
Furthermore the layout of the back nine, with OB between holes (as in, if you end up on the 12th hole from the 11th tee you've gone OB, and vice versa) is ridiculous and other parts of the back nine are just mystifying, as in there is not a single sign as you come off the 13th green to tell you that the 14th tee is up the hill behind!
This is not a place I'll play again if I return to the area!

They're going to turn this into a 9 hole course in the near future to allow for housing development. Absolute shame as the only public course in Payson. Course is in rough shape to begin with. Tee boxes and greens packed very tightly together, better keep your head on a swivel cause no doubt a couple balls will be coming your way during the round. Just so disappointed they're turning this into a 9 hole course.

Best burger in town! Hand pressed and made with love!! All the hand cut topping and specials you could ask for on a burger, even SALSA!!! I would recommend to all friends and family to get the double because the beef is so fresh!

This golf course is nice, but they lack proper guidance from their employees to the owners is lacking, I was removed from the park for someone else's behavior. Bradley threatened my father. Bradley said he had four witnesses.. But didn't want to give up names.. this golf course doesn't even have cameras.. So how truthful can they be if they can back their claim? This experience felt like I was in the twilight zone.

Dissapointing! Tee boxes were rough, golf cart paths really bad at times, course not marked well. Greens and weather was only thing nice. I am sure this was a really nice course at one time, but not being taken care of.

What a fantastic golf course! The staff were so friendly, food was great and the golf course is super fun! Brad was especially accommodating at the pro shop!! Lots of opportunities for drivers and fairway woods on this course. We were treated like royalty, and so was our dog! We will be sure to come back! Thank you Payson Golf Club for a perfect 2-days on the links!!!

Looks like my review has been deleted. So Iβm leaving it again.
We went for lunch today, and ended up with a show. We witnessed an altercation between the GM and golfers. It seemed very unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. The worker was Bradley, who I believe is the GM, was yelling and instigating the whole thing. I have never witnessed such behavior by a General Manager. We left, we canβt support a business that does that to its patrons.

Had a weekend trip with my buddies planned for 2 months to play 2 rounds in the day up in payson to get out of the valley heat so we booked a cabin. Unfortunately, this course opens up its booking only 1 week prior. Well when the tee times finally open up the first one available is after 2pm because apparently they have a tournament that is not advertised anywhere and now we have to drive back to the valley to play anyway. I'm just completely at a loss for words and extremely dissatisfied to say the least.

Been playing here since last year. Huge improvements and more coming. Seriously considering a membership. I see the improvements from week to week and month to month.
You can certainly see the differences from the previous original owner. As a golfer on a budget this is where I like to play. Golf unfortunately is costly no matter where you play. I've played all over the country. The fees here are fair and reasonable. You must also consider the weather here especially in the fall and winter. Way different than the Valley's conditions. This group has the right core people in place and has been consistently makeing updates. It's certainly a big process and it's very expensive. My wife went to elementary school down the street when this location was Payson's main drag. I've been coming to Payson for 40 years from the Valley and now own a 2nd home here. This is the only public venue in my price range and with this group in place this course will shine with some time to update itself. The restaurant serves great food and the Staff all around here are interested in your experience and your enjoyment. Give them a chance and you won't be disappointed. I too have worked at a large golf course and there is certainly no shortage of things to do when making over a course. You really have to know the inner workings of the maintenance challenges and requirements to makeover a course. It's a huge process and it can take years to accomplish. I enjoy myself here and I think you will too. I bring my elderly mother weekly and we have a blast.
Every course has quirks and needs constant updates. Give this course time to complete its over-all makeover and support it while it continues to improve. It is and can continue to be a place for the public to enjoy a round of golf and get a nice meal.

Got a membership about a year ago through Bobby, due to my traveling and my membership getting ready to end they paused my membership so I could use the rounds I already paid for this far. Well they switched systems didn't notify me to any of the changes and I lost out on hundreds of dollars worth of rounds. When I signed up they promised better changes to the course, nothing's really changed. The club house is great cool. But nothing in the year that counts for anything major that they promised in the membership. Dirt mounds still on the side of 18, 12s green is still half dead, carts are still older, fairways are still rough, old sand traps still on some of the holes but not removed just over grown. I could knit pick the hell out of this course over the empty promises and little changes.

Not the worst course in the world, but overpriced and a bit boring. Almost every par 4 is just over 300 yards making for lots of the same approach shot. If it were 20 or 25 to walk in stead of 40+ it would be worth it. Sadly, itβs the only public golf in the area so might be all you can get.

$65 is $35 too much for this course. Everything from tee to green was extremely disappointing. Greens were garbage and your best drive will end up in a gravel pit in the middle of the fairway. Management needs to look in the mirror.

So its the only publicly accessible course within at least 50 miles in any direction. The course is pretty basic. Fairways in decent shape. Greens are inconsistent. A few fun holes, and overall a pretty amusing course. It is exactly what I'd expect from a public course, except its a bit overpriced. I was charged $45 to walk 9 holes. If it was $25 to walk 9 I'd give it 5 stars.

I have been playing this golf course for 15 years in a men's league. The golf course has been under new ownership since January 2020, and has been upgraded greatly. Both the course itself as well as the pro shop, and bar/restaurant. I recommend that people give it a try. I enjoy playing it, and think you will also.

I have recently become a member at The Payson Golf Course. Since moving to Payson in 2018 I have played numerous rounds here. The new owner has hired an outstanding staff to meet your golfing needs. Small things have been done such as a remodeled pro shop, remodeled bar area. The course is taking time to improve but the small things the grounds crew have done really show you the investment being made. Stop by and see the architects rendering of what the future holds for this course. Talk with Bobby or Chuck as they have some great membership plans right now. Frank Pizzi

Really enjoy talking with the staff here everyone is super friendly (I'm still in my first year of golf). The carts are always in consistent working order and I've played 10+ rounds here. The back 9 is more challenging than the front 9, mostly par 4s 280-350yd range. The drop shot on 14 is one of the funnest holes in the area imo, just need to get a true tee box up there. Local discounts and for under $30 for 9 it's a fair track.

We just played this course. Gentleman behind COUNTER was rude and had less personality than a golf ball. The course is not worth the money. Terrible condition and lacks good signage for where to go next. Everything about this course says cheap cheap cheap except the course fees...pictures show beautiful views...they are their for sure but course lacks any good character...will never come back or refer this place to anybody...drove up from peoria and still had a great day....bring lots of balls.....poor course conditions will eat ur balls.....

We did a northern Az golf trip..played the beautiful Bison course in Show Low on 7-11-17 then down to Payson for a first time play at the Payson GC..read some bad reviews but we figured you can't always believe them...well the bad reviews were right on. This could be a challenging course if an effort was made to bring it up to respectable by pruning, trimming trees..cart paths that made sense so you can find the next T box, upgrading the T boxes etc.etc. I'd have to describe this course as a " cow pasture" filled with gopher holes, ant hills, and extreme bad bounces. Without a doubt the worse course any of us have ever played..walked off after 14 holes..never again !!!

I have played this course half a dozen times over the years, and this course is in the best shape I have seen it. The fairways and greens were very playable, the greens in particular were in good shape, although a bit slow. I think the layout is quite fun, with the ninth hole with two separate carries over the wash my favorite.
Yes, if you are in the rough, you will not have a great lie, and I think all of the white out of bounds stakes in the middle of the course are stupid (we just ignored them).
And yes, I would not want to be the guy in the pro shops dog... but if you are in Payson and want to play golf, I would certainly recommend it. Play it once, and decide for yourself.

I used to play this course quite regularly. I stopped going because of the horrible service and lack of course maintenance. The old guy in the clubhouse couldn't have been more rude, and the course was in much need of some tlc.
Today I drove by and couldn't help but notice how green and beautiful the course is looking. Even the clubhouse looked a million times better. If the customer service has improved, this course may be making a comeback. Idk if they have new management or what, but whatever is going on there is a very welcome change. I think I might hit the driving range this weekend!
