Joe and his team are phenomenal!
I was first introduced to olympic lifting through crossfit and wanted to improve my technique. I started in the olympic lifting class with Coach Jessica. She watches everyone in her class very closely (I'm convinced she has eyes on the back of her head!). She provides great feedback and cues to help you lift your very best.
I'm now doing the intermediate weightlifting program directly with Joe. He has so much knowledge and has helped me with my technique and confidence in my lifts.
Coaches Jenny and Lindsey are also amazing resources and are always happy to share their knowledge with anyone.
Joe has a great team and I take great pride in being part of the Performance One community!

I've been going to Performance One for just one month and already I can feel that my back and core are stronger and in a safer, more stable alignment during the movements.
Before I came here I had to recover from a back injury due to bad form and going too heavy. I was closing back in on 136kg for clean and jerk. Now at Performance One I'm doing reps at 100kg, but I'm new and the repetition is not easy.
If you love Olympic Lifting, this is where you should be.
If you leave your ego at the door I believe coaches Joe and Lindsay can take you well past where you thought your limitations were.
The coaching here is serious. It's not for the self-doubting type. Come in with confidence and work hard, then expect nearly every single movement (including warmups) to be heavily scrutinized and analyzed, with constant feedback.
Joe speaks in scientific terms, think force = mass x acceleration. It's easy to understand. He can spot your bar path from across the gym. Today I caught a clean on my heels and lifted my toes maybe a tenth of an inch, I didn't even know I was doing it, but once Joe told me to keep my feet flat I realized they weren't.
This kind of attention to detail takes decades.
The only disappointment I have is that I wasn't here five years ago.

Joe and his staff do it right if you are a weightlifter or sport athlete who is serious about improvement. These coaches know their stuff and more importantly create a training environment for athletes to become their best athletic self regardless of talent level. If you love shiny objects, this isn’t the place for you. But if you have grit, toughness, and a genuine desire to improve, these guys will go the distance with you.

Training here at Performance One has been amazing. Each session is well-structured, challenging, and tailored to my specific needs and goals. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced lifter, Coach Joe and the other coaches provide the knowledge, motivation, and accountability needed to reach the next level. The atmosphere all around is worth checking out for yourself. Highly recommend to anyone serious about strength training.

Amazing facility and elite level coaching. Joe Micela is as good as it gets in Weightlifting coaches. Really builds great relationships with his athletes of all ages. His supporting coaches are all outstanding too. My son has trained here for years - can't speak highly enough of this place.

Signed my son up this summer for Strength and Speed training. He went from not being able to do a solid push-up to being able to do 20 in less than 3 months. His confidence has grown and on the football field we have seen him improve greatly. Thank you guys and we will continue to use your amazing knowledge to be the best he can be.

My son completed a 2-month Youth Speed & Agility course. Shortly after, he completed running trials at his high school. As a sophomore, he demonstrated significant improvement in his running tests for baseball compared to last year. He went from one of the slowest kids to Top 6 for the entire school, and I attribute the speed and agility program to his improvement. Everyone at the gym is friendly to top it off. Highly recommend this gym if you're looking for positive results in your child's athletic capabilities.

I’ve been going to Performances One for two years now. I was an average gym goer looking for more guidance. I am the strongest I have ever been now. Joe has been there for me through health trials and a pregnancy. My workouts have been adjusted to exactly what I need. This is an energetic, yet focused environment that brings out the best in me. I could not recommend this MORE for anyone looking to take their training to the next level.

I came here looking for some coaching on my Olympic lifting a year ago and have never left. Not only has Coach Joe changed the game for me, but the community of people and atmosphere make it worth coming back for more. I even brought my younger brother who plays hockey in the NAHL for some off season training. Whether you come for the community aspect, the coaching, or treatment from the licensed physical therapist on staff; you won’t leave disappointed. Come check this place out if you’re interested in Olympic weightlifting, strength and conditioning programming, or looking to take your sports performance to the next level!

Joining Performance One was driven by my goal to sharpen my Olympic lifting skills and gain strength for my CrossFit journey. In my past, finding people who believed in me was rare, making the immediate confidence and support I received at Performance One a unique and motivating experience. From day one, it was clear that empowering each individual is a core value here. Coach Joe often says, “I wouldn’t put it in the programming if I didn’t believe you could do it”, a simple but impactful phrase that underscores the gym’s belief in our abilities and has become a motivating mantra for me during tough training sessions.
At Performance One, 'grit' isn’t just a word; it’s the foundation of the gym’s culture. It’s not just about working hard; it’s about celebrating hard work within a community that supports one another. The encouragement from coaches and fellow athletes creates a culture of persistence paired with a strong sense of belonging. Performance One is more than just a gym; it's a place where determination and support come together to create not only better athletes but also individuals who believe in their own strength and potential. The experience has reignited my self-belief, showing me that with hard work and the right guidance, achieving my goals is entirely within reach.

Big thanks to coach Joe and everyone at Performance One Advanced Sports Training. These guys are the best. My son has trained with them for about 4 years. During that time the transformation he has undergone is really amazing. His gains in strength, speed and overall performance have been awesome and he would not be where his is today with the training he received. He is now a senior in High School and starting on his football team on offense and defense. I do not entrust my kids to just anyone, and would not have had him training with anyone else. I Love how they mold the athlete and also the person. I could not recommend them enough.

I’ve been training with Joe a year now and the environment is like no other. I couldn’t even snatch a pvc pipe when I first came to one performance. The schedule is flexible and you work at your own pace under his direction. He helps me lift heavy and avoid injuries which was my number one goal. Love it here!

As a recent cancer and stroke survivor, and 57 years old, I had always been in awe of Coach Joe and the lifters and other athletes who were from Performance One. I finally had my opportunity to visit and work with everyone, and I literally lifted better than I had all year by quite a lot. Everyone appeared to be focussed on their training, while still prioritizing supporting each other and respecting the facility. Coach Joe's cues were suscinct and he was able to communicate effectively with words and demonstrating what he meant in a short amount of time so I could put his words into practice.
If you're looking for amazing and experienced strength & conditioning for any sport, Coach Joe will know what to do. If you want to take your lifting to the next level, be prepared to work. His level of desire for your success will and should be second only to your own.

Coach Joe does a great job of pushing you to your best potential as an athlete as long as you show up and do the work to get there. He works with all types of athletes, with special emphasis on Olympic Weightlifting. All the coaches (but special shout outs to Coach Nate and Coach Becky 🙌) make this place a great environment to put in some hard work - they have years of experience and knowledge! Additionally, our athletes are #1 in Arizona and training with them is 100% a privilege!

I recently moved here and was looking for a good gym to get me in shape for my hockey season. I was in need of someone to help with my form since I experienced a lot of injuries with lifting and Joe was able to fix my form and get my strength back up very quickly. Everyone at the gym is warm and welcoming and everyone wants you to succeed regardless of where you are in your sport/weightlifting/fitness journey! Suitable for all ages

I've been training at this awesome weightlifting gym for a little over three months now. What I love about this place is their personalized training approach that feels like having your own personal trainer. Coach and Nate really helped me dive into Olympic weightlifting and address my weaknesses in powerlifting. Plus, their focus on steady progress has been a game-changer.
Before joining this gym, I could sumo deadlift 200kg (but struggled with a conventional deadlift of 150kg) and low-bar squat 180kg (but couldn't even come close to a high-bar squat of 130kg). But guess what? I've achieved a conventional deadlift of 190kg and a high-bar squat of 180kg! In just three months!

I first started training at Performance One in 2004 to better my physical condition before joining the fire department. Once here I started to enjoy the Olympic Lifts used in our training. Little did I know that you can compete in Olympic Weightlifting as a sport. I then went on to be a University National Champ and multiple time national medalist. Over 15 years later I am back training as a masters lifter.

I started coming to Performance One after I started playing football and found out about this gym from a teammate. Going to Performance One was the best decision I could've made. Since joining the gym I have became stronger, faster, and more explosive than I thought I ever could. Coach Joe's knowledge is priceless and there is no one better to help reach your goals.

I came here years ago to see if I would be any good at Olympic Weightlifting. I can confidently say Coach Joe is almost too good at what he does. There are weights I have been able to lift that I never thought I would be able to come close to. He believes in his athletes and the sport has taught me discipline and confidence not only in sport but in life. Whether it’s weightlifting or strength and conditioning, you will be molded into an athlete here. My most recent PR was a back squat double at 170kg (374lbs) posted here. Thanks Joe for all you do!!

Performance One is hands down the best training facility I've ever been to. Not only is the Olympic lifting coaching amazing, but the overall gym environment is great. It truly feels like you're part of a community with the other lifters here, who are incredibly friendly and encouraging. I was hesitant about getting back into this type of activity due to a previous lower back injury, but my specific program, designed by Coach Joe, has allowed me to become much stronger, especially in areas where I was deficient, and to improve my technique. Now, a few months in, I am a lot stronger and my back hardly bothers me at all.

When I decided I wanted to compete in Olympic Weightlifting, I thought I might as well be trained by the best, so I joined Performance One to be trained by Coach Joe. At the age of 55, I had my first competition. A year later, I came in 2nd in Masters Nationals. This is the place to be if you want to learn proper technique. Besides a fantastic coach and facility, the other lifters at the gym are welcoming and supportive.
