Now that it’s open again, here’s my honest review, as someone who’s been to both EOS and Planet Fitness… planet fitness is still Planet Fitness — cheap, limited, and honestly not built for everyone. The equipment feels old and basic, and most of it is designed for men with longer limbs. As a short woman, half the machines don’t fit right, the angles feel awkward, so I know I’m not gaining muscle fast and it’s slowing my progress and it just doesn’t feel like the gym cares about making the equipment usable for different body types, especially since they were closed for three months and only fixed one thing. It would’ve been a great opportunity for them to get better equipment!
And don’t even get me started on the cardio machines. The treadmills are way off. Mine told me I burned 200 calories in 8 minutes at an 8% incline with 2.3 speed. Nobody on earth is doing that. If you’re actually tracking calories or trying to reach
real fitness goals, these inaccurate numbers completely throw you off and make it harder to get to your goal. Planet Fitness is known for buying super cheap equipment, and you feel that every time you work out.
EOS is a totally different experience. You can literally see the difference in investment:
Equipment quality: EOS updates their machines regularly. Planet Fitness… keeps the same stuff for years (you have to manually push the seat up and bring it straight or it falls down, a lot don’t have the pin)
Machines for women: EOS adds booty builders, hip thrust machines, glute isolators, and equipment where short people AND tall people can actually reach the floor and adjust positions correctly. Planet Fitness barely has anything targeted, and nothing new, which doesn’t help since health and science is always learning new things.
Strength training: EOS has full squat racks, platforms, cables, and heavy dumbbells. Planet Fitness won’t even let you use a barbell or go above 60 lbs and is often missing the 5 LBS extra weights for it.
Classes: EOS offers real classes——HIIT, cycling, Zumba, yoga. Planet Fitness doesn’t offer actual classes, just “30-minute circuit” and a trainer occasionally walking around, which I’ve never seen at Alhambra.

At the end of the day, Planet Fitness feels like a business that wants your $10/month and nothing more. They don’t upgrade anything, they don’t expand options, and they don’t try to keep up.
EOS feels like an actual gym, with better equipment, better upgrades, more machines designed for women, and a setup that supports real progress, not just cheap memberships.
If you’re serious about working out or want equipment that actually fits your body, EOS wins by a mile.
The only reason I go to Alhambra is because it’s a 2 min walk but once I move into a better neighborhood I’ll be doing EOS all the way.

Update 13: Aug 6: Open! Wife went there and it is open but empty.

Update 12: Aug 3. New breaker set to be installed tomorrow and they hope to be opened Wed Aug 5. Wish them luck.

Update 11: July 31 - Transformer installed, but now needs a new breaker. They hope to have it installed by Monday.

Update 10: July 26. Uploaded the photo for the Building Permit for a replacement Transformer issued July 16. Also added the new sign saying it was closed and that you can go to other locations.

Update 9: Called today July25 and it looks like the fix did not work????? Lady we talked to said they still don’t know how to fix it and does not know when they will reopen. Sad.

Update 8: Called Wed July 23, the transformer part arrived locally and is being picked up tomorrow. Hopes to have it installed Thursday.

Update 7: Called today July 16 and they answered the phone! They ordered the part to fix the power and think it should be installed in a week. Fingers crossed.

Also, they were closed because the electric hand sensors were not working on the sinks so people could not wash hands.

Update 6: Still closed on July 14. Went by and saw they need to also update the hours posted vs what is online once they reopen.

Update 5: Curious how we can contact the manager / owner? Planet Fitness replies to other posts say to contact them. However, I have left 2 messages in the past 2 weeks and there are no call backs from the location. I hope they don’t charge everyone the monthly fee this coming week since they are temp closed.

Update 4: July 12 (almost 2 weeks). They now have 2 more signs on the door. I uploaded them. One says Power is not at Full Capacity. Sadly they are still not opening for people to do free weights and non power equipment.

Update 3: Still closed per the website. No idea why they do not open with all the unpowered equipment. Sadly, Someone updated Google again to set it as OPEN. I just submitted it to be temp closed again until they update the official website.

Update 2: Sadly they are still closed. But after talking to support a few times and the nice employee, they finally added a temp closed banner to the PlanetFitness site, and also added a voice notification when you call. Glad they finally did that. Helps a ton.

Update 1: Talked to an employee. They are still choosing to be closed. AC and lights are working. Only things not working are powered equipment and TVs. No idea why they have chosen to completely close when people could still do free weights and other equipment and even shower. Sad choices. Hope they get it fixed.

I suggested they update the hours on the app so people can tell if they are closed. Easy fix. Just change the hours.

Going to add another 1 star review!!! The place has been closed for almost a week. There is only a poorly written sign saying power. NO UPDATES! The app always says it is open. They really need to update it to closed until it is fixed. The only way to find out if it is open is to call the number and get the planet fitness support. There is no way to contact the manager.

People that go to the gym like it, but you really need better communication about the closure.

Update 0: Talked to a nice employee. Still closed. AC / Lights are on and working. The only power outage is TVs and Powered workout equipment. Sad thing is the gym could be open for all free weights and equipment that does not need to be powered.

Stay away!! Not worth your money! This place was closed for months. There was no apology, no refund, just a sign on the doir telling you to drive to another part of town and the hope you wouldnt notice. They blamed the city, they deflected, and they intentionally didnt communicate. PF is a mediocre gym, you get what you pay for-usually. Here you literally dont get what you pay for. I was a member since 2017 at another pf. 6 months here and Ill never be a customer again.

11/27/25 Update: they are open! Ive missed the size of this gym, the amount of weights, and other equipment. Not overly crowded in the morning either, which is really nice. Let's hope they stay open.

UPDATE: I loved that this gym so much more than Sunnyslope. Better bikes and weights. So cold & plenty of space. Unfortunately, they haven't opened back up after 2 months and I have resigned to stop checking every day for an update. Just shutter your doors of that's the case & don't be taking people's money.

Visited after YouFit shut down and realized I was overpaying for not a whole lot. PF had so much more to offer for $5 more a month- plus you can tan, red light and even hydromassage. Staff was very nice.

Update: Nov 26th, 2025- 6:00pm Just passed by and saw lights on. Was not able to stop but I tried ied to call this Planet Fitness number and now I get music and after one minute the phone hangs up by itself. What a business and a terrible way to treat customers. I was still hoping they would open simply for convenience.

10/15/2025- Still closed. Don't think they'll ever reopen. Cancelled membership even with 2 month free offer. That's only good if you have a car or close enough to another location. LA fitness it is. Really preferred here because the hours are better than LA fitness. Their hours suck for a gym. PF has great potential but the slowness they have had to fix these issues, while stores around them open daily, is a great discouragement. This company is rich enough to fix this issue by it I believe there is more than what they are telling their members.

09/02/2025- Tuesday the day after Labor Day. They are closed again due to electricity being out AGAIN! They need to update their status back to closed here on Google Maps.

Also, stop suggesting other locations to people when they call. Everyone doesn't have a car to drive to another location and Phoenix public transit is not dependable but the heat sure is!

Loved this gym. I agree with others reviewers i don't think this gym will reopen. I live behind the gym and pass by daily. I do witness several work trucks park around the gym but not sure. All other business do have light. BUT yes the other night all lights on the gym side where off so who knows.

Update: gym is open 11/21 @11:00 A.M.

Unfortunately I’ll be canceling today. I go to the Goodwill nextdoor almost daily and there’s nothing being worked on at this gym. No work trucks, no electricians or anything that resembles progress, honestly I have my doubts this place will ever reopen. LA Fitness just remodeled and the basic membership isn’t much different in price (29.99), so I’ll be going there from now on, too bad because I like PF’s hours.

Update: I was told by an employee in the same strip mall that PF installed a refurbished electrical panel and it didn’t work and Goodwill payed to get it done right and there’s been no issues. Now PF is fighting with property management over the whole thing. So basically PF went the cheap route and the members are paying the price.

If the gym is not open by 10/30/2025 I am cancelling my membership. There are ways to mitigate a power outage. Simple get back a backup generator. I went to another location and was turned away even though you say we have access to other locations. With that said, the clock is ticking planet closed! UPDATE: I went to cancel before the new month and they not only want to charge me $39 for cancellation but they want to charge me the annual fee of $39. The gym has been closed for two months and they charged me a membership fee those months. This is the worse grifting from a gym I have ever seen. The chances of me returning are next to zero. Their customer service over the phone offered zero assistance. Planet Fitness if you are reading this, I WILL BE DISPUTING THOSE CHARGES. To all others do your homework before joining this gym! Have gone to this location for about 8 years now and everything was really good; no problems with Planet Fitness as a company at all. But this location has been closed for 3 and a half months now (I first saw this issue over July 4th weekend) due to a “power issue” and there was no communication to members through email (I searched my inbox), just a handwritten sign on the door “no power”, they finally updated the app more recently to say “temporarily closed.” At this point I just look at it every time I pass it on the light rail to check if there are cars in the parking lot yet, and… nope. Corporate must not care about this location if it’s been this long and they haven’t done what they need to to fix it. I mean every other business in this area is closing down too so, *shrug*. We’re just a “rough neighborhood” so we don’t need anything nice, I guess. I’m canceling my membership at this point because there’s no timeline of when they expect to reopen, there aren’t any other PF locations anywhere close to me (I don’t drive) and I’m wasting money not being able to use the gym I’m paying for. The least they could do is give members who have this location as their “home gym” a credit on their accounts while it’s closed. They did that during the first few months of COVID.

Location is still closed. I just cancelled our memberships. We have been paying the fees for months now and unable to use it. They just say visiting one of our other locations. It is not that easy and sometimes just outright impossible for some people. They offered to delay our yearly fee from October to November. DELAY - not waive……. This is such a a poorly run gym, they have open but the gym been closed for days, they say due to no power but I looked in the window and I see lights on. Not to mention that when you call to ask questions regarding closure of the gym you get "I don't know" it's a joke, the gym was improving when Kyle(the manager) was their because he really cared
about the members and how the gym was kept. The person that's manager now is just running the place into the ground but you better not be late with your monthly dues. I will be canceling my membership and I am sure others will follow, it's just not worth it, also their is always homeless hanging out in the locker room(mens) all evening long using the hair dryers to dry their clothes which is a fire hazard; disappointing at best.

This gym has been closed for several weeks because of an issue with air conditioning. I parked my stealth van the day before Labor Day and went to every other store in the same strip mall, since Planet Fitness was closed. I left after.
I returned to the location 9/10, I slept in my van from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. By 5:00, a police officer knocked on my door and asked me to leave because the location owner complained that I needed to “move on.” I assumed the gym was open by now and told the officer I am a member, and asked if I could workout. The officer was nice, but informed me they were still closed.
The parking lot is huge with almost nobody here. I didn’t even step out of my van and nobody can see me sleeping inside. The officer said the owner drove by twice and because they saw my van both times, they thought it was a chill idea to call the police on me.
I’m obviously not wanted here, so I won’t try to work out at this location in the future. Besides having police called on me for parking here during the day time. I’m also not impressed with the time it has taken for Planet Fitness to reopen.

Came around 9pm and the gym was closed. Looked up the gym on the map to see if I had missed something and it still says open.

This is incredibly irresponsible as this isn't the first or even the second time they don't update their status to "temporarily closed". Idk why they refuse to do so knowing people will waste time driving here only to see that it's closed.

The last time that they were closed for over a month, they initially took a very long time to even update the location as closed. We were left in the dark on what our options were until we were finally told to try another PF.

I really liked this club , it’s unfortunate that it continues to have electricity issues. I ran into one of the employees in the area and unfortunately they are being hit by this too with no work since the closing . It’s all bad for everyone . There definitely needs to be some sort of compensation. This is ridiculous.

8.28 Update

The gym has another power outage and the cardio equipment isn’t working, the spa isn’t working, the sinks aren’t working. It’s disappointing how frequently this keeps happening. You might want to call before you go.

The Alhambra location when operating is a great location. Its usually really clean and the staff are for the most part helpful. I was able to speak with a rep and and they have been closed because of a transformer which is not an easy fix. From my understanding they have had to work with the city to get this fixed which is kind of out of their hands. I noticed a lot of people are saying the other parts of the strip mall are working but when I went at night the entire parking lot was pitch black. Those lights are not working either. My assumption is that not all of these businesses are pulling energy from the same transformer. Its unfortunate but I do give this location some grace. Also I was advised their systems have been up and down as well so there was no way for our memberships to be verified or transactions to be completed. There is now a sign on the window that says we can go to other locations in the area and another sign from the city of phoenix outlining the issue and what needs to be repaired. Hopefully the workers are still getting paid, I think they are more affected than anyone if they are not being paid. Hopefully things will be up and running soon!

I finally had the chance to make it to the gym last night after my toddler was asleep. I got there around 7:45 pm, and it looked like the lights were off. I just got a membership here weeks ago. Basic. It was good until it closed. I understand if there’s a power outage but I haven’t been able to go since it’s been closed. It’s been days and weeks. Like what’s going on ? Ruining my consistency here lol. I’ve been seeing a number of complaints under these reviews. Please get it together! We gave you our money to work out…so please get it together.

Update: I see that on google. It says open. That will give people false hope into thinking it’s open. Please keep it “temporarily close” because some people may not even look at the website and for our convenience. Second, if you guys do not fix this jumbo of a mess in a couple days or so, I will be cancelling my membership I just got. It’s unfortunate that I’m already thinking about it. But I don’t think it should take this long to fix this. You can just let us use other equipment. Like the other person said, there some equipment that does not require electricity to function. We paid money for this places to work out. And we are not getting service. We are practically giving it away. Quite sad.

When it's open this is a good place to workout. My updated rating is because of the closure. Can you temporarily upgrade members memberships so they can go to another PF during the closure? That or can you freeze accounts or offer a bill credit?

This gym is literally across the street from me. I recently paid my -100 balance just to find out the next day it was closed. After waiting for updates and seeing that they had an electrical problem it's understandable because when I would go I started noticing some machines that would be flickering but didn't think nothing of it. It would be cool if we got like from the day they close till now free. I have MS and it's hard for me sometimes. So that would be pretty cool if they did that because I was looking forward to working out again

They have been closed for days now because of the power outage. I spoke with someone that works there and they said it's because their machines are broken. Since it taking so long and no updates when they plan it getting fixed by, I feel like they should give us a pass to go to another gym for the time being or give us a refund. It's a joke that they have been not open for days now and refuse to give any of us a refund or somewhere to go for the time being.

Good, clean, well equipped gym. I like the 4 and 5 AM opening times. Would ask that that they turn the music in the gym down so that I and others could listen to the content of our choice using our phones. Otherwise, I'm completely satisfied with Planet Fitness and will renew my membership when the time comes.

Terrible experience. 😰Very poor customer service. The room where the chair massagers are was very hot, like if you were inside of a microwave. So , all of the people that were using them we had to leave....😰😰 I just cancelled my membership, make sure you cancel before the 25 th of the month otherwise we have to pay $49 by at the beginning of the following month. I am not recommending this place to nobody.

This gym is big, has lots of equipment, and a good layout. However since this PF is located in urban phoenix, it does get homeless people (usually people living in vans/RVs) coming to shower which good for them. But as a gym goer you should be aware and cautious when using the bathroom/showers. Some may be inconsiderate.

Nice gym, affordable. Only issue u have is that I love the 30 minute workout area, but the rules are never enforced. There are often multiple people camping on machines, and there is no clear signage explaining when the area is for 30 minute workouts exclusively

I'm writing this review from that area at 4:11pm, and the rules are not currently being enforced. Any clarity on when I can actually use that area for its intended purpose would be great

Let me first start off by saying that as a truck driver, I appreciate you for allowing us to park, workout, and shower! However, this planet fitness was by far one of the worst. The place opened at 5am and the ladies bathrooms were disgusting. So obviously no one cleaned the night before and the morning staff didn’t do a walk through. I let the young lady know that they were nasty, ( she has red hair) but no one did anything about it. As a matter of fact, they stood in the front on their cell phones the entire time. The planet fitness on West Indian school road was less busy but the workers were cleaning and organizing the entire time we were there. Mr. Kyle, I urge you to speak to your staff and inform them of how important it is to maintain the professionalism and cleanliness of your busy I’m sure you’ve worked so hard for.

Wonderful place.Friendly caring staff.I felt like I belonged.Am senior with health issues and absolutely no judgements.The equipment and other fitness items clean and in working order. Bathrooms clean and easy to navigate with a walker.The staff top notch.I highly recommend for a no frills ,get it done all levels exercise experience.At this location even the clients are respective and just so friendly.A positive environment for promoting good health practices both mental and physical!

Love it, it help me to lose weight, it good for seniors. I love the message machine, it help my sore muscles. Its healthy for me.

Gym is clean, locker room and bathrooms are clean, tanning beds are clean and always available (Never any wait), red light is amazing, and the massage chairs are perfect for after the workout.

The employees here are super helpful, laid back, and make sure that the environment in the gym is always relaxed. Machines are spread apart and always in working order.

I wish there were a couple extra machines (Pec Deck/Rear Fly is ALWAYS being used, more decline benches) and more dumbbells, but overall, I'm very happy with this gym.

Ok, the showers are trash here and there's no place to set anything down.

When I checked in the attendant hurriedly flipped over some clipboard to prevent me from seeing what was probably just boring employees schedules. You shouldn't leave that sitting in the counter if it's so secret. Instead you make me feel like a bum.

Then there's a guy spraying air freshener all over the restroom stall doors. Perhaps it doesn't occur to anybody that it's also insulting.

My PF membership is hanging by a tenuous thread. The staff never seems to have a clue.

I doubt they clean this place. I've been with planet fitness for years and even lived in another city and they were all clean. Employees constantly cleaning restrooms or dusting.
This location is so dirty. I swear the same clump of hair has been in the sink for weeks. The same black streaks on the first toilet for weeks.
I get that the workers are paid nothing but at least the manager could clean.

I stopped in for a 1 day pass since we are on vacation. They charged 20.00 and gave me 5 dollars off. The manager was very nice and wanted to help. I like the Gym area but the Dumbells only went to 60lbs and they do not any free Bench so I had to use the Machines. Overall the place is really clean and I love the mirrors..

Lack of responsibility, which is why I would rather switch to something different because they took a political and unethical stance as a company. There is a need for new ownership and accountability for making the wrong decision. I know that this will affect the gym in the future.
