I was honestly starting to enjoy this location — until tonight, when I was completely disrespected and humiliated by one of their staff members named Jacob.

At around 9:31 PM, I was getting ready to take a quick shower before closing. Out of nowhere, this young man stepped right up to me and said, “Hey sir, you can’t take a shower, we’re closing.” His tone was rude, confrontational, and unnecessary. I calmly replied, “It’s only 9:31 — you close at 10.”

Instead of acting professional, Jacob became aggressive, stepped closer into my personal space, and snapped, “You’re rude and you’re not showering — I’m cleaning.” That’s when things took a turn.

I asked him directly — “Are you doing this because I’m Black?” Because honestly, that’s exactly how it felt. I’ve seen how others — white members — get treated here, and they’re never spoken to like that. The energy was different. The tone was different. The disrespect was different.

When I tried to speak with the young lady at the front, she immediately took his side, claiming she believed her employee. I told her she didn’t witness how he approached me or how close he got to my face, but she still acted defensive and dismissive. Eventually, she backed off slightly but was still rude and unhelpful.

By this point, I was completely in shock. The way both employees handled this situation was unprofessional, disrespectful, and reeked of racial bias. I have never been treated this way at any Planet Fitness before — until I came to this one in Scottsdale.

I will not stay silent about this. I will be filing a formal complaint and escalating this incident directly to Planet Fitness upper management and corporate offices. What happened tonight was unacceptable and wrong on every level.

No paying customer — and certainly no Black man — should ever have to deal with this kind of treatment.

I just recently moved to Scottsdale. I have been a member of planet fitness for many years. I was happy to find out there was a planet fitness near my new place. The gym itself is nice, however the customer service at this location is not. I’ve been there twice now. The first time I went tanning they never told me the bulbs were just replaced, I got burnt to a crisp. The second time the bed stopped working 30 seconds in. They then proceeded to tell me due to their policy I would not be able to tan and I would have to come back tomorrow. Ok, let's just ignore the fact that that it’s a complete inconvenience for me to have to come back the next day but I would like refund or new sample lotion I just had to use for absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, mam due to our policy we can not. The whole situation was very strange. If this is how they train their employees I’m not sure I’ll be back. You can’t just deflect what ever issue may occur back on your customers, in repeat of it being policy! I could have been talking to an AI bot and even it would have had better customer service skills then what I had to deal with tonight 🫩

I go to Planet Fitness all across the country and this one was stellar. It was incredible seeing how peaceful it was, and clean as well. Arian was at the front desk, and he was very helpful and kind. I totally recommend going to this gym if you live in the Scottsdale area.

Great equipment, but there are always people sitting on their phones texting or having conversations on their phone like they are waiting in a grocery line. It’s so distracting. And the inside of the club feels like it is about 55°, which is horrible for a workout and muscle recovery!!! I’ve been going here three years and it just keeps getting worse… More phone conversations, more people squatting on equipment, and the temperature keeps dropping! Go to EOS. Very disappointing.

This is a location that just shows they'll hire anyone willing to show up. This male sitting on his phone instead of working which is the new age of people. Trying to get his attention and he's just sitting there on his cell phone. I come in and ask for a tan. He told me that I couldn't bring in my certified service animal and I needed to leave her in the over 100° weather in the car, while I was inside. I had to explain to him that it's illegal to deny a service animal when she has a letter from the doctor and a federal certification with registration number. And then he tried to tell me that I can't bring in outside eyewear. And I told him that the planet fitness ones were inside the plastic case but I couldn't get the Ziploc to untie with my fingernails instead of offering help while there was a whole line piling up behind me. And then when I finally got it open and showed him after he sat there arguing with me watching the line pile up. He sat there and talked shit about me to the people in line trying to blame me for their holdup when obviously his mother never taught him to be a gentleman. If you see a woman struggling with something that you're demanding, you could at least offer some help and all of that struggle was for nothing. It's definitely not my favorite location and I've never been interrogated like that at any other location across the country. But I only stop here when I'm staying at the resort in town in my SUV because the parking lot was designed to make sure the semi drivers don't enter in. And I don't like it. I would rather drive to the location on Guadalupe At Mesa drive because they are quite a bit friendlier there. I've noticed 8 out of 10 times that I've been to this location. This staff is always rude which shows me this owner doesn't care about the customers. The young girls are typically friendly but that's the only time I've ever received friendliness from this location

Horrible experience. Wanted to try out gym with a free trial pass. Shows online that a free trial can be attained by downloading the app or, "stop by a club near you." I just visited this club and the employee was extremely rude. He explained I couldn't have possibly seen anything like I explained. I have attached the photo of the website. He wanted me to download the app or pay $20. Nope. Second employee asked, "Where's your phone?"

This Planet Fitness is well-maintained with clean facilities and a welcoming environment. However, some of the equipment shows signs of wear and tear, which can be a bit of a downside. Overall, though, I have no major complaints—it's a solid gym that gets the job done. A reliable choice, but not perfect, so I'd rate it 3 stars.

UPDATED: Very large space and well lit. The equipment looks worn. Alot of the equipment upholstery is now worn and has holes in it.

For the price it's a decent gym. Sometimes the paper towels dispensers are empty with plenty of employees standing at front desk. Not many employees walking the floor. I'm not sure if planet fitness allows personal trainers to train their clients at the gym. I know that some personal trainers will work with people at a gym of their choice. I am a certified personal trainer and learned that was the best way to make money once you have some rapport but most gyms don't allow you to train clients unless you're affiliated with that gym. Also a possibility is it is a friend of someone who goes to the gym. When you see someone not working out and giving someone instructions it just seems like a personal trainer. I am not sure why this is off putting to me but for some reason it seems like a personal trainer taking advantage of a cheap gym.

I have enjoyed coming to this planet fitness for a few weeks until today. I filled up my completely empty water bottle at the water fountain by the locker rooms and I took a sip and I felt something in my mouth. I fish it out and it is a large shard of glass, keep in mind I’ve been drinking from this bottle all day and just finished it before refilling it at this fountain so it isn’t possible it was already there. I went up to the front desk right away and explained the situation, they were nice and apologized but I was also expecting them to have a sense of urgency, put up a out of order sign at least. 20 minutes go by and people are still using it so my husband and I went back up and asked them to put up a out of order sign so no one gets hurt (aka swallows a shard of glass). And they just “listened” to us and said they put in a work order for it. I pressed again to put up a sign and I could tell they had no plans to, so we just left and will be canceling our membership. I still don’t know if I swallowed any other glass but I definitely will be in contact if I have to go to the doctor.

I really like this gym, good location, equipment looks new, staff are friendly. While staff have always been friendly I just don't feel like they're cleaning the gym. A lot of the times the paper towel rolls are empty so we can't wipe down equipment and all the staff are always up at the front; there's only a few I noticed actually cleaning. There was an empty clothing hanger that was in one of the stalls in the women's bathroom for almost a month, same with clumps of hair in the shower. Once again, I got to this club for opening today at 5am and NOBODY was there to open the door. Several of us waited a bit, and I left at 5:15am after giving up hope someone would arrive so I could maintain my schedule of daily activities. This used to be the norm--nobody to open the door--but I hoped it had changed. Apparently not. I also want to point out several of us talk to each other, and men have told me they have commented on broken hooks in the shower, equipment broken, etc., only to be told things would be fixed. Those hooks? Not fixed for MONTHS now. I don't like lip service, and I don't like poor service. I was told a new EOS club is opening down the street and several members are talking about checking it out. It even offers a pool. For the same price as your club. I would like someone to fix the hooks in the shower, maintain broken equipment, and open the doors on time. This is what we pay for.

Planet Fitness-Scottsdale Ranch is our home PF club. My wife and I go nearly every day. We are so pleased with the staff, the facility and the equipment. The staff are welcoming, friendly and responsive. They keep the facility and equipment clean and in good working order. (It is a pain that they also have to be enforcers for COVID-19 protocols like mandating masks and cleaning equipment. While it's annoying, we are glad that between the club members and club staff that the COVID-19 protocols are followed. We were so very disappointed that the club - along with all other fitness facilities in AZ - were closed by the State earlier in the year. Having Planet Fitness-Scottsdale Ranch open is worth some annoyance if so mandated.) One of the most satisfying parts of our club is that there is so much quality equipment - enough stations to minimize usage conflicts. It's kept clean and in good working order - unlike some other clubs. Recently, Dallas, an employee from the corporate office, was on site performing preventative maintenance. It's so nice that not only are repairs made promptly, but club management works to prevent equipment failure in advance! Great job! Thank you, Planet Fitness-Scottsdale Ranch. You are a very important part of our healthy lifestyle. Not only do you help us achieve our fitness goals, you are a very important plus in improving our quality of life. Since we are Black Card members, we have also used our membership around the country when we travel to other cities and states. This is a very valuable added bonus!

Updated review after 2 years of neglect: Big, somewhat clean gym. Generally pleasant staff. Too much cardio - added some instead of addressing shortcomings of weights and weight machines (need another pec fly, lateral shoulder and heavier barbells). But the biggest issue is that maintenance has disappeared. Ask them how many days they have had no toilets, or no water or plumbing back ups. And they never know when the problem will be fixed. Unacceptable. They've expanded hours despite never being busy. Last manager who was good, but had his hands tied by district nonsense, was summarily fired without notice. And the staff turnover is constant. Can't blame them, they make less than some fast food places. BTW - It is hypocritical to say "judgment free zone" when you have signs making fun of serious lifters and call them "lunks". That is the definition of "judgment".

Update. Getting worse. District management now withholding paper towels to manage budget. And here are pics from today. Three weeks and still haven't fixed toilet paper dispenser so still one stall.

For the past year this place has gone to hell. District management controls all maintenance. There have been several occasions with no water, no toilets, no drinking fountain. Place has had two sewer back ups. Took a month to fix front door. Currently, two weeks and still only one stall in men's locker room because of toilet paper dispenser. Plus the locker room is about 60 degrees. An AC is dripping. Several csrdio machines inoperable. Seriously. Inner city YMCAs take more pride in their operations.

What happened to this PF? It used to be neat, clean and organized. I came regularly to work out because it was in such good shape. Now when I show up there's trash on the floor in every area, the roof leaks and there's buckets to catch water in the female locker room and near the treadmills. The showers are dirty. The staff spend most their time on their phones or talking to one another rather than working. It's turning into a junket.

Love it. Highly recommend it. Even though I bike, hike, kayak, and belong to Club Pilates I am always drawn to Planet Fitness to facilitate my exercise vortex. It is affordable, spacious, clean, colorful, and has diverse equipment and free weight options for strength and cardio. If there’s a better way to spend $10/mo, I am sure not aware of it! PF on Via Linda is awesome!

I consider myself pretty understanding, but I find myself scratching my head as to how you can run out of water for sale for a week or more and blame it on the shipment. How about some advance planning and forecasting? The tanning beds are hit and miss. Sometimes they are working, sometimes they are not. They locker rooms were off limits last week and this week the computers were down. The central air conditioning is great if you are in the middle of the gym, but step to the edges and it is uncomfortably warm. Lastly, it is great to have a charity set up out front to raise awareness, but the constant badgering day after day especially when we already gave money is annoying. Needless to say, there is room for improvement.

I’m not a member but my friend wanted to take me to the message machines there because I was complaining about my legs being sore. I was so impressed with the place. It was so clean and they had walk-in showers with rain water spouts. And the massage machine was amazing . I didn’t want to leave!!

To stay up to date and competitive you ought to add more stairmasters. There are a ton of unused elliptical machines on the floor during prime hours. There are only 4 stairmasters and they are constantly in use. Maybe it's time to keep up with demand.

Came mid day on a Monday. Not busy at all. Gym was fine. Showers absolutely freezing. Got about 15 seconds of warm water. Easily one of the 5 worst Planet Fitness showers I’ve ever taken. Miserable.

we travel cross country and utilize a lot of PF’s— this one was in a very nice and very safe plaza! with really clean and spacious private showers/changing rooms! with rainfall shower heads! my partner said he ran out of hot water towards the end of his shower, but otherwise this is a great location!

Awful gym. Snobs and the staff remind me of the old days of Ballys. Rude and snobby. But you can't expect the 'nice' gi.mick to last when you pay minimum wage. Unfortunately so.eone made an awful mess in the bathroom and those poor snobs had to clean it up.

Wonderful idea to open up the Scottsdale Ranch location to a local drug rehab facility. What could possibly go wrong? Now there is a police officer stationed outside of the gym after 7pm. You have created an environment that is extremely unsafe for your members. I will be cancelling my membership after being a loyal member for nearly 5 years.😡 If you are looking to join at this location, please take my advice and do not enter this location after 7pm!

All of the Planet Fitness locations I have been to are great... judgement free, as advertised, clean, well equipped and a very comfortable environment to work out in.
The Planet Fitness on Via Linda is exceptionally clean, lots of equipment, comfortable temperature, clean locker room, and I have a very enjoyable experience every time I work out there!! I would highly recommend Planet Fitness for anyone.
