Update: I was mistaken, the person was actually a trainer. When I reached out to an actual manager, they assured me my attire was fine.

Manager enforced a dress code policy that is the opposite of what is stated on their website's FAQ. (Also, could you stop staring me down, bro? 😅) Planet Fitness corporate doesn't care, though, they just send the complaint to the gym manager to deal with. Hahaha very helpful, guys.

The space was clean and had an impressive array of equipment. I really appreciated how the staff took the time to explain the different packages available without being pushy. However, I was a bit disappointed that during our first visit, the women's locker room was completely out of paper towels, and the cleaner/towel station near my equipment also lacked paper towels. Still - 5 stars worthy!

I do not like the way they do their massage chairs at all what a major inconvenience. Then I wiped down the wrong chair why would 2 be before 1 . Also it's like why do I have to schedule this then they always try to start you immediately anyway. This chair doesn't have much power. It's too early for this BS we only get 10 min anyway.

Does no one else have an issue with the terrible airflow and AC at this gym? Or is it just that you haven’t experienced other gyms to realize how bad it is? It always smells in here!

I was paying only $5 more for another gym with way better conditions, but unfortunately, I had to switch to Planet Fitness after moving. Big mistake. I can’t even breathe in here! This is Arizona—it’s always hot, whether it’s 7 AM or 7 PM.

Let me say this: the staff are friendly—as long as you’re just saying “hi” and “have a good day.” But if you actually have an issue? Suddenly, there’s “nothing they can do.” Seriously, who am I supposed to ask about the AC then? is there really a need for four or five people standing at the front desk just to occasionally say hi?

My experience is that even though I am not smart technologically I show up regularly to work out and am sort of surprised that my fitness level has improved. I am much less fat and at 62 that surprises me as I have always (mostly) been active athletically and have had trouble not being fat. I do keep a food diary (sometimes I lie to myself) but it keeps me more honest. I'm not sharing pictures because really, who wants to see some old lady?

But their beds, bulbs are always going out. Need to do a better job at keeping up with maintenance.

I have attended other planet fitness gyms, it’s hit or miss. Some clubs are on top of maintenance and others not so much, this location not so much.

I’d be more than happy to give a good review, if I see an improvement on the beds/bulbs. You tell the manager, but the person doesn’t seem to care. It’s frustrating to pay for below average service.

It's tough for me to leave this updated review because I generally like this place. I find the constant spray down of machines with recycled paper that leaves the machines wet annoying. But after years of going here that wasn't enough to get me to quit.

What finally got me to quit was the numerous remodels. remodels that resulted in closures and missed workouts. I tried driving to one of the other locations but it just never happened. The remodel that made the gym feel worn down and old. Not newer and renewed.

The final straw was the removal of the circuit. I know the machines are still there just in different places but that was the one element of the gym that made it special. And I know that it wasn't used a lot but that was also what was nice about the circuit. I'm a fan of the circuit. I think it's the kind of workout most people should be doing so shame on planet fitness.

Also moving to a new gym that is 24 hours. Planet Fitness was 24 hours when I joined but for some reason I kept going even when they lowered hours. And yes that has caused me to miss a lot of workouts because I'm someone who likes to workout at night and on weekends.

So I'm personally looking forward to the change. And there are a lot of reasons why I left. Planet Fitness self inflicted issues.

And time to return to my gallon water jug. :). I'm happy abot leaving. But I do appreciate Planet Fitness tolerating me all those years and 99% of the staff over that time was super nice.

The Planet Fitness on McClintock and Southern in Tempe is a great place to workout. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they have a wide verity of free weights and machines. The felicity is always very clean and super nice people like Emily and Angel from the night shift make you feel comfortable and welcome. I highly recommend Tempe Planet Fitness on the north west corner of McClintock and southern for all your workout needs.

Due to not using this membership any longer I sent a letter to the management to cancel 3 months ago, they keep drawing funds out of my debit card! I sent another letter to cancel - Certified/Signature required which I received the signature card back showing they actually did receive the letter and a copy of my previous request to cancel the membership!
I will say at this point the management does not like people to cancel memberships here at this club - It is actually now Fraud!
I also sent a copy of the letters to the corporate offices as well!
No response from either!
They have left me with no other choice than to now follow up with the AZ Attorney General’s office which I also sent a copy of all letters too!
I highly recommend that NOBODY join this club as they will continue to deduct from your account forever, perhaps even after you die!!

I like that this gym is close to my house, always clean, and the staff is friendly. The yoga mats are in great shape and clean. One of their rules is that guests must go to the lobby to talk on the phone. Unfortunately, many guests are talking on the phone (some without even using headphones) and the staff is not very good at enforcing this rule.

As a black card member, I thought I’d try a different location than my usual, and I was a bit disappointed with the staff at this particular planet fitness. Four employees (the only staff I saw) chatted and laughed loudly at the front desk to the point that I heard them from the back corner of the gym, through the music playing in my AirPods. I usually wouldn’t mind this, but there were several times throughout my workout that men were loudly grunting and moaning during their workouts, which made me uncomfortable and would’ve been stopped by staff at my usual location. If the staff was walking around and checking in on each area, maybe this could’ve been prevented. Ultimately it wasn’t a terrible experience, but it would’ve felt more comfortable with attentive staff.

Second time they have closed the gym for renovations. So I lost two weeks of workouts and I didn’t notice a credit for half a month on my account.

But I get that gyms need maintenance l. The issue is what they did made things worse. Still equipment with ripped padding. Paint drops on equipment.

It used to feel really clean but now it feels dirty and lopsided

I’m not particularly sure what they actually did. Move the rubber mats that now look beat up and old.

According to the timestamp on my app, I checked in at 22:35. I went into the restroom and applied the Nair on my legs and in between. I waited the duration of the time that it takes to remove the hair. I proceeded to get into shower and washed off my body. I went back into the dressing room and dried off my body put on the oil. A male worker stuck his head in to the locker room and said, "hello." I replied with a, "hello". He informed me that I needed to exit so he could go in there. I left my belongings in the dressing room. After putting some clothes on I went outside the locker room. The only male insight was the one at the front desk. I asked if he was the one that requested I exit the locker room. He informed me that it was his male co-worker and that they wanted me to exit because I had been in there too long. It was 23:00 when the boys demanded I exit the locker room. I didn't even get to Wash my face, brush my teeth or take a tan or lay in the basic massage chairs offered in this state. Now I'm going to have to go to a different location. The male at the front desk stated that his name is Angel. There were three males just standing around the front desk talking when I came in at 10:35 p.m. on Monday April 29th. In all my years of truck driving and going to different Planet Fitness locations across the entire country, I've never been treated like this. I told him that I had just went in there to take a shower and he said, "Oh you've been in there a minute. It's been too long!" I've never once in any planet fitness across the country. Been told that I could not complete a shower, brush my teeth and wash my face. I've never been told that I had a time limit. This is very appalling! As a truck driver, I rely on planet fitness for my hygiene needs. I definitely will not come back to this location ever! I can't believe that I drove all the way from Scottsdale to come here. That location closed at 10. That's the only reason, I drove all the way here, to just be treated like that!

I absolutely LOVE this gym -- friendly people, very clean and well maintained (and I'm pretty sure it's where Nello's used to be, which is unendingly funny, aside from the tragic fact that Nello's had to close its doors for good -- this is the most delightful thing to go in their place). This place has just gone downhill. They can't keep staff. Added a bunch of new tables to the lobby that nobody uses but you have to dodge just to get to the desk, an entry way mat that does nothing more than trip people walking through the door. And my favorite; they have changed their cleaning supplies/equipment spray bottles to something that triggers my asthma just walking in the door.

Stay away from the franchise locations in Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Arcadia! I had to move out of state for work without much notice and wasn't able to come in and cancel my memberships. I was told I could cancel online via the website. I was able to cancel my membership, but not my daughter's. It didn't show up linked to mine even though she's a minor, and her's wouldn't let her cancel. When I called the club and spoke to "assistant manager in training" Nolan, I was told there is a super-secret local policy from the franchise owner to shut down our ability to cancel online because "too many people were canceling." Uh...ok? That's kind of the point. Was the company and people I called at that location before I moved lying to me then, or is Nolan lying to me now? In either case, can't stand dishonest businesses that lie and hold you hostage. So we'll see if they actually cancel once I can send a certified letter. Nothing to show them I'm me more than talking to them on the phone, just added expense and wasted time while they continue to charge me. It's like when I used to come in and every one of the employees would be more concerned with their discussions and flirting than helping out customers, I guess they are just too busy taking those monthly fees to care.

I have been coming to this planet fitness for around 9 months and had enjoyed my experience for the most part the staff has been incredible until today 2 new staff members have been very disrespectful as soon as we walked in me and my gym partners. we did not have the proper apparel and instead of addressing the situation like a respectful adult the new lady continued to curse and go on about how we have to leave. It’s understandable that we didn’t have the proper apparel but the situation could of been addressed better and all the other employees know us and know that we change out in the locker room I feel like the 2 new staff members are abusing there authority and something should be done about it!!

Today I spoke with the General Manager, Trinity and she proceeded to tell me that there is nothing she can do about stopping my membership because I had already contacted corporate. In July, I was there for work on a temporary basis. Decided to sign up but made sure that it was easy to cancel since my home address on the east coast didn’t have a location. Three weeks later, I had to have major surgery for lymph node removal. At that point in time, a certified letter was sent to the location (per their agreement to cancel), requesting a membership cancelation. Fast forward to last month. I have been billed every month despite 2 certified letters, six online form requests for cancellation, a long talk with someone from corporate.

Last month, corporate said they would make sure this location would stop the billing. However, I was charged yet again on 12/18. My attorneys advised me, ALONG with corporate to ALSO reach out to the GM at the location.

I spoke to Trinity who immediately told me she couldn’t help me. She was condescending and wouldn’t listen and then accused me of lying about corporate, saying that corporate wouldn’t tell me to reach out to the actual location.

This is interesting because not only when you call the corporate office, the hold announcement says to contact the franchise directly, Stephen from the corporate office ALSO said to reach out again to the GM. He said he would escalate the matter again.

Trinity didn’t take the time to even look up my membership. She immediately didn’t want to deal with the problem. According to corporate, they said all the GM had to do was put a stop on my membership, yet she REFUSED to even take my name or do ANY sort of service recovery.

I have been doing employment law for 20 years and I’ve never seen such an incompetent manager with zero regard for customer service. She clearly doesn’t understand how a franchise works either. Additionally, she said she had only been there one month. I don’t know about you, but had most normal and competent people would at least attempt to track down where the certified letters went, take a name and number and/or escalate the issue. I even explained that I’m not looking for a refund. I have never once used one the gym in fact. On top of that, I explained to her about my cancer and surgery, along with the fact that I’m not in Phoenix anymore physically.

Reviews can be difficult because you never know who is on the other end. However, if I were the franchise owner and read this review, I would have serious reservations regarding my new hire, Trinity. She was rude, condescending and wouldn’t even allow me to speak. Furthermore, when I became frustrated after she said that “corporate would never tell to you reach out to the physical location,” she then told me she was going to hang up on me.

I will completely admit that I am absolutely frustrated with the situation, to a point of tears at this point. I have stage IV melanoma, cannot use the gym, am not physically even in Tempe, AZ anymore, and I cannot get anyone to help me. This whole situation is unbelievable.

Rarely do I write reviews but this 100% warrants it. Trinity should immediately be terminated for cause for gross misconduct in the way she treated a member. As I mentioned, had she at least tried to take my name, and track down where the breakdown in communication is, then I would have had zero issues. But to call me a liar when I was only doing what corporate suggested, and to not CANCEL my membership when she has the power to do so is just absurd and honestly inhumane at this point. With my medical bills and health, every dollar counts, and I’ve now been charged for six months plus an annual membership fee for a service I’ve never even used.

I'm at this location right now, and the staff at the front desk has sprayed so much lysol air freshener that I can smell it at the butterfly machine, and it is affecting my breathing.

I thought this was a judgment free zone. Doing that after somebody leaves the front desk is shaming them because they think that person smells bad. That's just as bad if not worse than judging the grunters & weight droppers & fat people.

There is zero reason for the overuse of the aresol air freshener. There are people with sensitivity to such things. I literally just got here, and now I have to cut my visit short because I can't breathe thanks to his judginess and antics.

Update: I am editing my review because Planet Fitness is currently allowing a third party vendor to set up a table outside the entrance and solicit patrons entering the fitness center. It is annoying to receive a business proposition when going to exercise.

Overall I only go to this gym for the convenience of its proximity to my house and it's cheap. Here lately they have gone downhill. Firstly they always have a machine out of order and it always seems to be a machine they have very few of. The leg Press being one of them and the ab crunch machine being another. Additionally, why they have an insanely large section of elliptical machines I have no idea. I wish they'd remove some of them and expand the weight lifting section. There are hardly ever people on the elliptical machines but you always have to wait patiently for weight lifting section. If you come between 5-7pm you might as well prepare for long waits to use the weight lifting section if you get to at all. I truly don't understand why they will not expand that section. It's the smallest section but the most popular.

If there was a 0 stars option it would be given to this location. I have been a faithful planet fitness goer for the last 4 years and never have I been treated poorly and racially discriminated against before until now. To cancel my membership for he/she say and "cameras" show me breaking into lockers is quite hysterical because of course just blame it on the black guy! No proof whatsoever and no explanation given.. I had to call twice just to get a reason for my gym membership being canceled out of the blue! Never have I had any issues with planet fitness until now, i've been to several locations and this one is the most horrendous of them all! Just moved to Tempe a couple of months ago and went to this PF out of inconvenience but I see that was a quick mistake just shy of reaching 4 months!

I've worked out here for a long time, it's casual and comfortable and nearby, but they don't take member safety seriously. This gym attracts its fair share of shady individuals, from allowing the unhoused to use the restroom or shower to permitting individuals with street clothes and shoes to work out; I've gotten used to that and it's kind of the neighborhood and I've never complained. But two fights broke out today, between the same people, and it was very poorly handled because the staff didn't tell them to leave after the first incident. There absolutely has to be zero tolerance for fighting, it doesn't matter who starts it, who felt taunted, or who doesn't walk away, in fact the circumstances don't matter at all. You fight, and you're asked to leave, period. If the staff member felt too much in a spot or too endangered to throw them out, then he should have called the police. Time to enforce some policies, PF.
