Remedy Pilates & Barre has restored my confidence in exercise again. Before joining, I had gone through my most sedentary stretch ever (about four months) while adjusting to a new job. Balancing a desk job and a long daily commute left me drained, and my previous injuries from a car accident started to flare up from lack of movement. By the time I took my first class at Remedy, I had lost a lot of strength and was dealing with noticeable inflammation.
My first class, mat pilates with weights, was intense. The precision, articulation, and lengthening of every muscle was unlike anything I’d experienced before, even as a former rock climber. Pilates reached muscles I didn’t even know existed. It was a little intimidating at first, but I grew to love and appreciate the focus and emphasis on form.
What ultimately convinced me to join though, was barre. I finally felt like I was having fun working out again, and that made the sore muscles and recovery worth it. I try to attend every class on Thursday with instructor Abby. Her energy, knowledge, and spot-on cueing make the movements flow perfectly with the beat of the music.
If I could give any advice to someone considering Remedy, whether you’re new to barre, pilates, or bala, or just getting back into exercise after time off, I’d highly recommend starting with barre. It’s a fun, upbeat way to re-engage with movement while building body awareness. Let the instructor check your form, check your own posture in the mirror, and start building that mind-to-muscle connection. Once you’re comfortable, take that awareness into mat pilates. Though it moves more slowly, pilates has a lot of moving parts underneath the surface we don’t normally utilize day-to-day: micro-movements, posture, holding, lengthening, and tightening - the most important elements for maximizing the benefits of pilates.
That said, you’ll do great no matter where you start. As long as you commit and stay consistent. Don’t give up! If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely be sore and feel like you’ve gotten the workout of your life every time you go. After a month and a half of going 2x/week, I am proud to say that I can finally bump up to 3-4x/week and can feel definition in my body returning!
The studio overall is high-quality. The cleanliness, positive energy, and professionalism of the instructors have truly made me happy about exercising again. It feels good to be healthy again!
