This place is really a 5 star place, except they have started playing the most annoying rap imaginable. Itβs like someone with 2 trash can lids slamming them together right in my ears! I may have cancel membership, I donβt think I can take it. (Thanks for responding Tiffany. I enjoy the family atmosphere at R&R and just think it is really inappropriate to play music where they are dropping F bombs. I didnβt realize I could ask them to play different music.)

First time rock climber and we had a lot of fun! Luke, our instructor was amazing. He was clear and concise with his instructions, but also made it fun for the kids. The area was clean and everyone was friendly. Definitely going back.

Been climbing here and the bloc for over a year now, love these places but- evenings(even after 3-4pm) at rocks and ropes are beyond packed, the experience is chaotic and unpleasant which is unfortunate for those who only have time to climb after work. Hopefully there are plans to expand and grow because demand is clearly exceeding the limited space

I just want to point out some of the sketchiness of the waiver that this community signs. Rocks and ropes can not be sued even if they don't, say maintain their equipment or forget to bolt some of the devices or holds to the wall. They can't be sued if they don't maintain their stuff and it results in someone getting hurt. I can see not being accountable for people getting hurt but not being accountable because your negligent is sketchy.
We sign agreements in every aspect of our lives, from Facebook to the climbing gym where we waive our rights. My question is Should a climbing gym be accountable to maintain its equipment, in a sport where a persons life depends on that equipment? Is there some injustice that we must absolve all these companies from responsibility to keep us safe?

I love this place so much! Iβve been climbing here at least once a week for two years, and have a weekly training/coaching session with Coach Kristina. She is AMAZING! Best coach and trainer I have ever worked with β the amount of time, effort, energy and information she provides during our sessions is exceptional! Her positivity and love the sport is infectious. I cannot begin to underscore the value in which she provides!
The staff is also incredible β I have brought five newbies to climbing into R&R and they were all taught so well! They do such a great job at showing how to tie knots and belay and are extremely conscientious of new climbers throughout the entire time that they are at the facility, keeping an eye on them well beyond the initial training session. They are all helpful and friendly and just wonderful folks. People new to the sport feel welcome here thanks to them :)
And the route setters⦠WOW! They all work SO hard to put up creative and well thought out routes that are fun to climb! I love watching them at work, you can tell that they are all so invested in this sport and doing a good job for the climbing community.
The facility itself is impressive β five autobelays, a large overhanging toprope/lead area, huge lead cave with very challenging routes, and so many toprope climbing routes in the vertical and slab areas that you will never be bored. On top of that, there is a big area dedicated to bouldering, several spray walls, a place to do hang board training and a fully equipped gym area! There is SO much that R&R offers.
You all have garnered every ounce of love and respect I have to give. Thank you all so much for everything :)

My daughter and I worked out here extensively 5 years ago and loved the place. We've recently started climbing again and Rocks and Ropes is still wonderful. Friendly staff, good training, friendly atmosphere and constantly changing routes. There are always a good number of routes for all abilities. 09/2023 Update: still a special place for good workouts, pushing your limits, and good family time. I recommend this place for anyone interested in climbing: young, old, male, female, other. Great atmosphere!

My wife and I are from out of state and went here on a rainy day last week. Luke at the counter took us through the new person orientation and it was very professional, complete, and unhurried. He also checked back in with us later in the day to see if any new questions had come up. Great customer service! Compared to other gyms we have been to, this one had more moderate routes(5.10 and under) than the others which was much appreciated by the two of us. The facility was quite clean and not at all crowded when we were there. All in all I would give this facility two big thumbs up and would definitely consider a membership here if we lived in the area.

Rocks and Ropes is a great gym for any level of climber at any age. They do a great job of rotating their climbs, especially for a team of route setters that has to work at the BLOC as well. They make good use of their space, having plenty of top ropes, a couple auto-belays they'll rotate around, a good size lead climbing section, a (small) but functional gym, an upstairs spray wall, kilter board, and a nice bouldering section that ranges from slab to cave. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they do a good job of prioritizing safety. I don't have any reference on their grades as I haven't climbed in too many other gyms to see how they compare, but I will say that their grades seem consistent, and the routes are fun. The route setters do a great job of creating interesting lines that make me excited every time they rotate the routes. It might be a little expensive for the day pass, but the membership is well worth it. Getting access to two high quality gyms for 70 a month is nothing to scoff at. Overall I highly recommend Rocks and Ropes, whether you're an experienced climber, or a first timer, I think it's a welcoming environment to all.

My fiancΓ© and I have been a member for a little over a month now. The facility is great with challenging courses for beginners like myself with plenty of other courses to continue to grow as a climber. The staff are tremendously welcoming and kind. They truly elevate the experience with their knowledge and kindness. I took my 58 yr old mother with me for a fun day out as she was visiting for the weekend. Jacklyn was so kind and patient with her and even checked back in to make sure she was doing okay after the lesson was long over. We really appreciated the extra mile she and the others went to ensure safety and to answer questions. Pricing is also very reasonable considering thereβs a small CrossFit style gym included with the membership. 10/10, would recommend to anyone

Had a blast climbing at Rocks and Ropes. Training by staff was informative, fun, and helpful. Lots of varied skill climbs which were great for a beginner like me to get started and try out several different types. Not too packed with people trying to go for the same ropes. Bouldering area was fun and but the cave was getting set up for a new course so I couldn't get any time there. Overall great experience, clean facilities and equipment, and very helpful staff!

First impression was not a positive one. $30 for a day pass when you have your own gear and just have to test out on belay/boulder fall technique was too much, especially for the size of the gym and height of the walls. It was the most expensive day pass I have ever come across compared to multiple gyms across the country and some of those gyms were hands down better in all the ways they could be.
All first time visitors (and people who havenβt been there for a year) MUST pay the $30 βThe Worksβ pass. This covers gym entry, rental gear, and instruction on how to boulder fall, use the autobelays (4 total, only 3 usable when we went), how to tie in to the rope, and how to top rope belay. If you are an experienced climber with your own gear, you still have to pay for the first time day pass. The staff said it was to compensate their time spent and extra staffing (two staff members), but that they donβt actually get the $10. To clarify, your first visit and/or your first time back if itβs been a year or more is $30 regardless of your experience level and needs; a day pass after your first visit/within a year is $20. (A day pass for a comparable gym in Phoenix is $25, which was still a lot for the size of the gym, but the facility was newer.) Of note, if you sign up for a membership with them that same day, they will credit your day pass fee, which is pretty standard for most gyms. However, for people just passing through the area the pricing is a deterrent. We brought a friend who was brand new to climbing and she was charged the $30 despite being told they could not accommodate her instruction for the day (sign up for an on the hour slot). For experienced climbers, the fee policy makes no sense other than to squeeze extra money out of people passing through the area because there are no other rope gyms in the area as competition. We literally would have left and not climbed there if there was another gym with more appropriate policies. This gym is unlikely an affordable option for larger families and people with lower incomes, which leads to a lack of accessibility.
The lead only climbing terrain looked good, but we chose to not test out on lead because our reason for being there was to give our friend a fun introduction to climbing.
Most of the staff was polite. The gym got really really busy around 4:30, which is to be expected, but can be overstimulating.
The saving grace for our experience here is the 5 star routesetting. As a former setter myself, I really appreciated the interesting movements and flow. Thank you setters!

Great Place!
Were visiting from out of town and my 10 year old daughter wanted to go climbing. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. We did a quick check out of the facilities and we were ready to go. They hand rental harnesses and shoes, which was great. Very good variety of climbing area and difficulty level. Were able to find some easy enough climbs for her and some more challenging ones for me. Loved it!

Used to climb at this gym a decade ago and finally made my way back to Tucson. Wow. The new reno is incredible. The training mezzanine is top notch and just being able to session a full size Tension board imo is worth a membership price. Any of yβall complaining about prices just look up how much just one climbing hold cost. Some routes Iβm sure cost more than my Priusπ I paid the same membership price for a 400 sq ft gym in the south..which is a great gym but just some perspective. Itβs a privilege to get to climb at such a dope gym again. Thanks for existing!

We had my daughter's 14th birthday at R&R a few years ago and had a blast. We went today just for the heck of it and again had a great time. The rep who helped us get prepared was funny, professional and easy to follow. We spent a couple hours scaring ourselves and each other. We go to the gym 5 days a week, however we quickly realized how hard rock climbing and bouldering is.
I would love to do this daily vs the gym, but it's too far from where I live.
I'd highly suggest this place!!!

The climbing is great. There is spaces for top roping, lead climbing, and bouldering. They have a small lifting area to build strength and endurance. You can rent equipment to climb, and the staff is knowledgeable, and they have a Learning wall for kids. With Covid, they are doing scheduled appointments for the busiest times of day to manage the number of people. Their website is almost impossible to find what youβre looking for and make edits to membership, but the gym itself is great.

My first time back in the gym in almost two years (injury then something catastrophic on a global scale happened), so I needed a guide, nay teacher, to show this baby bird all about climbing all over again. Kate was there for me in my trying time. She deserves a raise. She forced me to write this.
But in all seriousness, itβs good to get back to climbing especially in a facility that has all safety guidelines dialed. Iβll probably avoid the highest traffic session times for my own sake, but theyβve got things dialed. In a city of indoor bouldering itβs nice to have some indoor top rope still. Later!

EDIT: Original review is written below.
My original rating of 5 stars was prior to being a member. The new review of three stars is a fair rating considering my mixed interaction with members. Members who are experienced climbers, more so than me (and I can climb an 11.b indoors ~10.c outdoors), have shown on four separate occasions that for them it is socially acceptable to break social distancing rules.
On each of the four occasions members have climbed adjacent to me, sometimes within 20 inches of me even though there is tape on the ground marking not to climb on adjacent routes. This review is of the poor practice and selfish nature climbers seem to adhere to when the gym reaches near or at capacity. If you purchase a membership, please avoid busy times of 6-9 pm as members have continually shown willful ignorance and operate selfishly with their space.
Interested in climbing and being safe? You can do better than Rocks & Ropes. Go to the Bloc and you will have a better climbing experience or go to Rock Solid Climbing & Fitness. Most of the climbers are nice at any of the climbing gyms here and unfortunately neither the selfish members nor the staff have fixed the issue I kept facing.
Regardless, stay safe everyone and climb on.

I stop through here for a climb every time I visit Tucson. There are always kind people willing to talk shop and some of the friendliest staff. Great gym, I bought a membership here. I'd like to specifically praise the head guide here, Eric. I took his "Gym to Crag" course which was excellent. Eric in addition to being a knowledgeable and skilled climber is an effective teacher. I believe he used to teach in schools so has honed his teaching craft. 3 day course. Class size of 4 (good size), learned about safety, anchor cleaning, making top rope anchors, knots, friction hitches, rappelling, navigating, and more. I was able to use the skills the very next day. Great for a beginner like me who basically knew nothing about outdoor climbing (but probably useful for people who've been climbing for years with only knowledge gleaned from friends or youtube too)!

Been a member here for a couple months now. They change the routes regularly, so it never gets boring. I even like re-climbing routes I've already completed, just so I can try figuring out a more efficient way of climbing them. Don't leave your gear unattended*** I have been to many gyms in the west. While I have been to far better, this has been by far the best climbing gym in Southern Arizona. Naturally, I would give it 5 stars to show my support for a quality climbing gym, but there is 1 reason I'm giving it 4.(as a heads up i found the quality of setting was about 3/5. Fun problems, but I had a hard time reading the climbs due to a lack of holds)I would recommed not leaving valuables unattended. This isnt the first time I've been stolen from at a climbing gym, but it is the first time someone stole my stuff while I was at the gym. I've worked with climbing gyms in the past, and oddly enough, this one (from what I understand) does not have security cameras. It sounds like thievery happens here a bit and I'm really giving this gym 4 stars because I honestly believe that they need the entire gym rigged with security cameras. Other than that, staff were very helpful and freindly! Climbing gym is big, and offers a lot of rope climbing! Bouldering problems are unique! Does have showers. Friendly members. Reasonable safety poclies. And affordable day rates in comparison to what I am used to. You need to use a gym rope to lead climb. Will definitely change my review to 5 stars if cameras ever get installed.

Drove down from Phoenix to check this place out, had no idea that it was so new. Used to old delapidated setups with sketchy slippy grigri's, love the belay devices here, super safe. This is how gyms should look! All holds match in color for each route, the walls are randomly covered in different texture for your pleasure, ropes are super soft and smooth for easy tie ups and unknotting. Was a member here for 4-5 months and loved it! Great routes, well-graded and changed frequently. Almost too frequently, I went 2/week and didnβt have time to figure out the harder ones before they changed them up. Three auto-belays; would have liked more, but I usually climb solo so YMMV.

This is g great place for kids to get out their energy; a touch expensive for a family you don't own your own gear. Understandable though, you have to pay the rent somehow.

Went there for the first time and the staff was great. Attentive and eager to help a beginner. Routes are great for a beginner like myself and more challenging routes for my more experienced climbing partner. Highly recommend for a great climbing experience!

My wife and I are experienced climbers traveling through the area and decided to stop by.
It's a good gym for the technical climber and beginners alike. The girl at the front desk (long brown hair) was pleasant and welcoming.
A few route-setters should travel to some other gyms to refresh their memory on what certain ratings should feel like. In my informed opinion, crimps on anything other than a flat vertical wall would not be rated at a 5.9... However, many routes were just right. We definitely enjoyed ourselves. We LOVE that you guys have So iLL holds. So iLL has the best holds we've ever laid hands on and so unique(and their gym, Climb So iLL, is top notch).
We will come back if ever in the area again.
