I only used the chipping area so I cannot give 5 stars just yet. The course appears to have improved since the last time I played it, pre-covid. Now that im back to living in The area, I will frequently practice at San Marcos because the chipping and putting area are really nice. Also I have family coming in town in November and we are going to play the San Marcos course. I hope to come back and complete my review and gove 5 stars. Great start so far. Also, Ashton greeted me and was professional. He should be elevated to working in the Pro Shop. 😊

Worst experience of golf I’ve played all year, didn’t know we paid for a 18 hole timed golf round. Golf Marshall came around once told us to pick up the pace okay fine , came around a second time telling us the next whole had an open green so we need to pick up the pace, considering stoping for drinks stopping for the bathroom and the people in front of you probably playing better then you , we were already playing at a decent pace on top of that he tried telling us the guys behind us were the ones that called in saying we were a problem , hard to believe that seeing as how they were never teeing off when we were halfway down the hole but lying is cool, then when I confronted the Marshall about it he had to call his higher up to come and talk us telling us he can put us on the hole we’re supposed to be at or we can pick up the pace , CRAZY concept how everybody plays golf at a different pace and different skill level, CRAZY concept paying for 18 holes at s golf course just to be pressured to play faster, again didn’t know we payed for a timed play session. Won’t EVER see me play at this course ever again in my life. Sianara, not even that fun / challenging of a course. ✌️

I've been playing San Marcos off and on for 25 years and the last time I played was about 5 years ago when things were pretty rough. I decided to take my buddies out and we were impressed with the condition and pace of play. We played on a Wednesday morning at 8am and finished under four hours. If you're tired of the desert courses and want some trees this is it. Although the rough was very thick due to recent rains the greens and fairways were in great shape. Great value in downtown Chandler.

8/15/2025 - San Marcos has never been my favorite. It's a personal preference thing that I always struggle to articulate. I don't seem to play well here, and no matter what anyone says, that definitely affects a review. Maybe it's the half-assed driving range (literally half-flight practice golf balls)? That being said, the course was in pretty good shape. It rained that morning but dried out quickly enough. Greens were a little slow, but really not too bad and they rolled fine. Fairways are good. Bunkers are average, which is typical for this price range. There are opportunities to hit some cool shots, I just didn't manage to do it. Not the course's fault. The people that I interacted with, from start to finish, were fantastic. Also, the history of the place is super cool, if you're into that sort of thing. It really is a solid value, and there's no reason to dislike it. I just don't love it. Can't explain.

Who wouldn’t want to golf at a historic spot like this, where legends like Marilyn Monroe and Al Capone once hung out? My experience was awesome the course was in great shape, the greens were some of the best I’ve played in Arizona, and the staff was super friendly. The whole day was smooth with great food, cold beer, and perfect timing on the course, so I really have no complaints at all.

Why this deserves 5 stars? Decent course for sure, great service from the start. One person who stood out is Jordan. She was working the snack shop at the end of the 9th hole right before you start the 10th. Amazing attitude, fantastic service, and consistent with positivity. She had these golf stickers that she had placed out for anyone to grab which she does out of the kindness of her heart. Recommended beverages and food, and was very helpful. I’d go back just because of her. If you’re playing here, be sure to say hello to her and you’ll understand the reason for the 5 stars!

Who wouldn’t want to play at a historic course like this?
Legends like Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Ronald Reagan, and even Al Capone once passed through its grand and glorious doors which adds a special kind of magic for an everyday golfer like me out on the fairways.

Unlike many of the reviews I’ve seen, my experience was quite the opposite, in the best way. The course was in excellent condition, with some of the best greens I’ve ever played on in Arizona. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the pace of play was just right. We were never rushed from behind or held up by the group in front.

The beer was cold, the food was hot, and honestly, I have no complaints. It was an amazing time from start to finish.

Probably the most fun I've ever had. This is the best golf course. Jordan is literally the best who you can find at hole 9 at the snack bar. Sierra comes in a close 2nd because she's great and is very nice. Adrian is the coolest guy and makes golf fun and when you least expect it your bartender Tristan is amazing and they staffed this golf club incredibly and they all deserve props. Made golf so fun despite having a rough outing.

Apparently this is the oldest golf course in Arizona. We were paired with a couple of friendly gentleman and had a great stroll and a roll in perfect weather. Nothing super memorable about the layout but I found it interesting to finish the round with two birdie holes, 17 and 18 are par fives. The breakfast before the round was delicious! Staff in the pro shop were rude, kind of typical of "shirt folders" now days unfortunately. It costs $60 to rent a set of clubs, which is pretty high, but at least it was a fairly nice set. Cheap beers for a golf course! I look forward to playing more rounds here in the future.

I have loved this course and considered it my "home course" ever since I was a boy growing up in Downtown Chandler. I lived only a few blocks from the course and played there as often as I could. As I grew up and my parents moved, I began playing other courses in the East Valley and around the State, but I still kept coming back to San Marcos (even in the "down" years). BUT, after the remodel of both the Course & the Club House, I can honestly say it is one of my favorite courses to play (not only) in Chandler (but also around the East Valley / State). And I hear Gangster Al Capone used to do some Rum Running during Prohibition Days through the old Club House and the San Marcos Resort. ... Just saying ... but these are unconfirmed history tidbits! -30-

What an absolute joke of a course. Started a 2pm and was told the carts needed to be in by 6ish. No problem right? Wrong. Barely got through 13 at 6pm after most of people fell off around 5 and things picked up. The course was absolutely packed with drunk college kids that didn’t know any golf etiquette. They were constantly yelling, hitting balls right at other players, and saw a few just driving around pick up other players balls. The starter and attendant do anything to move things along was completely overbooked. When we got back to the club house it was just ran by a squad of kids just acting inappropriate like the ones out on the course. This course just completely fell off. Just a drunk college kid party out there. Been going here ten years and this is the last.

Meh is the beat way to describe it. Played an afternoon tee time. Probably waited 20 minutes a hole to tee off with how backed up the course was.

Made it through 17 holes, but the drink cart only showed up once. Not worth it, even if it may be cheaper than other courses.

I wouldn’t waste my time at this golf course. Played it for the first and last time 10/24/24. Had a 9:12 tee time with 3 other playing partners. After we all checked in and paid we were told by the starter that we had only booked for 3 and a single was booked with us. So there was 5 of us now and they don’t allow a 5 some. He said 1 of our 4 some could not play. After a 5-10 minute debate with the starter the single decided he would go play the back 9 with a 3 some coming through. That was great of him. Turns out there was only a 3 some behind us! But the single was already gone to the 10th tee. I think we know who was confused.
Anyway there was a small group booked a head of us playing a scramble. The group was very slow teeing off and we finally tee’d off at 9:30. Almost 20 minutes late. Front 9 was very slow, 2 1/2 hours. I don’t think a 5 some would have slowed things down as we constantly waited on every shot. Back 9 was about 2 hours. Played in 4 1/2 hours, 4:50 from our scheduled tee time. Saw. Course Marshall a few times but he obviously wasn’t doing anything to help speed up play and stayed a good distance away from us while waiting on every tee box.
Green fee was $70 which included a cart. I walked but still paid $70. No $ consideration for not using a cart.
Course recently over seeded. Course played slow, no roll which is expected. Greens decent condition but slow. Every green is raised and small. Narrow opening at the front of most greens and a bunker on each side of the green at the front. Most fairways full of grass clippings.
San Marcos golf course was certainly not an enjoyable round of golf for me right from the first tee!

Out in the area on a work trip, and of all the places we could’ve picked to play golf, we were pretty pleased to come across San Marcos. Course is in great shape for the time of year. This past Sunday on November 26 of 2023, I was at the San Marcos apartment complex next to the golf course. Me and my friend were sitting off to the side on the grass. A couple of people from the golf course came over to us and asked us to move we said that we would move. We were just getting our stuff together, apparently we weren’t moving fast enough for the people who came to ask us to move so they threaten to hit us in the head with a golf ball and then proceeded to hit the golf ball and did not wait for us to move. It was very racist and then afterwords they told on us because we’re still getting our stuff to leave and someone who works at the golf course access again to leave and we did. I have never experienced such a rude behavior from somebody that I do not know, threatening to hit us in the head. I it is very much a threat and that’s not okay. They did not care about our safety at all even though we said we would move

Played San Marcos today as for the golf course, it was ok (this is more like a muny golf course and is maybe worth $50 or less/not $85).The tee boxes need some tlc there were a mess of broken tees littering all of the tee box areas. The fairways were very nice as for the greens!

Course had some holes that played to my hook that I like to think is a draw. I know it's prime season but I'd say it's slightly overpriced for what it is... I have a couple honey holes around here that I enjoy a little more for the value. San Marcos is one of my favorite courses in the valley, the grounds are always in great condition no matter what time of year. It's a straight forward course without the circus holes that can blow up your round, yet challenging enough to get your attention. The bag drop, starting cart staff will always greet you with a hello and smile, no matter how busy they are. Be sure to arrive early for a bite to eat in the clubhouse, or finish your day with a cold one in the bar, inside staff always make you feel welcome.

I played here on a Friday morning in mid November and had a great time. While we were the first group out it was a bit chilly, but the course was in great condition and our group of 4 was able to complete a round in about 3 hours and 40 minutes. The staff was welcoming and nice. The course was in good condition and the greens were very well kept. As an older course, the layout is fairly simple with minimal water and multiple greenside bunkers on nearly every hole. I would definitely come back to play this course when visiting again.

The front receptionist holwed when she saw the donuts "---- Donuts!" She declared. She didn't tip and she didn't even cover my gas. She did ask if she had to sign for something? Awfully cheap if you ask me. Cheap isn't the word I think of when I think of a place that's going to care for my parents, and provide them with respect and dignity, until they pass from this world and onto the next.

Great setting in downtown Chandler and in excellent shape! Super staff and nice amenities. No "regular " driving range, but instead an irons-only hitting area to target greens using plastic, short flight balls. It's sufficient to warm up your swing muscles. Came back early next morning to retrieve it before any cart was used again to no avail which means cart staff took it off cart and kept it. No one was much interested in helping me find it. Wouldn’t advise golfing here. If I could give zero stars I would.

The course is SUPER dry. I played on 9/26. It was so dry that you couldn't even stick your tee in the ground because it was rock hard. It was only $30 which is nice but this is one where you get what you pay for.

I’ve played golf all over the world at all the fancy courses. Sure, I like a dose of perfect golf, but give me a fun Muni, any day. San Marcos is over 100 years old, the greens are small, there’s shade, it’s how golf is supposed to be. It’s fun, the staff is friendly and it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, go play!

Nice and easy course to play that is close to home. Also a benefit is to be able to walk off the course and over to downtown Chandler and get drinks with the boys after a round. Convenience is key here.

Fairways are great, so are greens. However, this is, by far, the worst course management I’ve ever seen. I am on the 3rd hole, and I have already been out here for over an hour. This is ridiculous.

Outstanding postage stamp greens. that are bunkered on all sides. Pace of play is good. Forgiving fairways. Great resort course. Some holes are super hard but it's a fair test. The staff are friendly.
The sand in the bunkers was a bit unpredictable. You need a great short game to score well on this course.
It's the oldest course in Arizona and you can get great rates by booking online.

Course was in great condition as well as the clubhouse and restaurant were the service was excellent. After golf we went to the restaurant but the kitchen was closed, they offered us chicken fingers, fries and tots and a wide variety of beers and soft drinks. Will be back.

Greens are spongey and in good shape. The course is very straightforward with its only protection being large over grown trees that line both sides of nearly every fairway. It's other protections are postage sized greens with bunkers plentiful surrounding them. If you like to look at nice houses and didn't think chandler had any..it will remind you a little of the Biltmore from that respect.
