We had an amazing experience during our free trial at Sandoval Karate in Tempe. From the moment we walked in, the instructor and manager greeted us with such warmth that we immediately felt at home. The atmosphere was friendly, professional, and full of positive energy.

My boys enjoyed every minute there, they were engaged, excited, and left with huge smiles. It was clear that the staff genuinely cares about each student and creates a space where everyone feels valued.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to continue attending due to the long drive about 45 minutes each way, which made regular visits tough for our schedule. That said, if you’re closer to Tempe or don’t mind the commute, I absolutely recommend giving Sandoval Freestyle Karate a try. Oh they also have location on Gilbert. It’s a 5/5 experience all the way!

We recieved four free sessions through Facebook. We have completed two and I've already seen a change in my boys. They're excited to go and content when we leave. The instructors are attentive and having three in the room seems appropriate. I would recommend for any gender.

We were blessed by finding this place. Our son has greatest coach. He treats kids amazingly with respect and with wiseness of 100 years old man. He doesn't just teach sport but also to think deeper and analyze yourself , this is such a great impact in development of child.

Sandoval is greedy and money hungry. After years of going to Sandoval for Karate, my son has decided to pursue something else. For months we've been hinting that our Son would most likely quit, and nobody made me aware that a written decision needed to be made by a certain date. Now Sandoval wants us to pay over $1000+ for 6 months of Karate we won't even use, which is devistating news after spending thousands on vet bills and cremation costs because our dog recently died. I asked for an exception due to extenuating circumstances and they said they didn't care, they want their money or else. Profit above Honor, this dojo has little to offer with no heart or compasion for those in need. Avoid this place at all costs, they hunt you down to join, then won't let you go.

Read their contract and you will find that they can take your money for 6 months even if your child doesn't want to continue taking lessons and they make you agree with no refunds or cancellations. The worst is that they auto-renew you for 6 months indefinitely unless you give them a notice in writing one month before. Decent enough instructors, but their contracts are ridiculous, auto renewing you into another six months without any kind of heads up. My wife was laid off from her job so we unfortunately were going to have to cut some expenses, and when we went to them they couldn't care less. We explained that we couldn't afford it anymore, we asked for help ending the renewed contract. They sent us to collections once we stopped paying even though we tried to explain what was going on. Would not recommend them to anyone. It's expensive for the amount of time you get as well.

One of the most worst experience I faced through this service. They are having a contract period of 6 months. I have agreed and paid 6 months period but took the classes only for 4 months but still I paid as I agreed. Now they are saying that the classes is auto renew for another 6 months and have to pay and sending receivable notes. I have already sent a message and called to the front office person to cancel my classes since we are moving we can't continue. But she haven't done and sending the account receivable notes. I never had this type of experience in my life . Very worst service and experience. Now they sent a account receivable notice of 1,143.98 for the services which we are not rendering. They do not have any concern on collecting free money from the customers for the services not taken. Such a lethargicness on others hard earned money. I ll seek an attorney and will solve this issue asap.

What a stupid martial arts school!
They advertised for a 2 weeks free trial classes only for us to get there on the first day and they had me go over this stupid contract that notes down the date of when we intend to enroll. We were not ready on day one because in my head (and from the sponsored ad) we were supposed to have a 2 weeks trial! I asked them about the 2 weeks trial period and they said that they're not in the business of offering that.
They had me sign an intention of enrolling 6 months from then but when they ran my credit card, it wouldn't go through. Immediately after, I start getting calls from these debt collectors asking for almost $2,000 payment for classes that my kids have never taken! I have free will to sign up my kids at a class I feel will give them value and yours is definitely not it!
You cannot coerce and manipulate me into enrolling in your school. You exerted psychological duress while signing the contract asking my kids if they liked the one hour class. Show me the footage of my kids taking your classes then I'll pay you for it.
The school's advertising was bait and they had me sign a contract that was misrepresented on the facts!
You better know I am ready to take it to legal right now! What a sham of a business model, all you care about is the money, very evident from other reviews here! You will not get it easy with me! If that is how you scam people into paying you money you didn't work for, you got the wrong person this time!

Our son took a free month of classes after someone came to our door with the offer. We had done a similar thing with another karate place when he was younger but it didn't stick. We really liked the classes, but ultimately decided it wasn't the right time of year for us to join for a longer term. I especially liked that they take into account (by talking to the parents) home and school behavior when deciding if it is time to earn a new belt.

Horrible. I am bewildered at what I experienced here. My son is 4. He had his first class last night. He was very nervous to start, but the instructor was lovely and talked to him before class. My son went out and started participating in class. He was following along and having a great time. 10 minutes into class, Kristi Sandoval abruptly grabbed my son by the waist and dragged him into the hallway to me. She was very rough with him and I had no idea what was happening. She said, "It's too hard for him" and kicked us out. He wasn't being disruptive. She could have given him more than 10 minutes to adjust, but that was it. My son was hysterical because he wanted to go back to class and didn't understand.

Reading reviews and seeing that she does this often. I would take any positive reviews with a grain of salt. She offers free T shirts to anyone who posts a positive review.

I wish I never put my son through that. I wish I hadn't frozen when she did this to us. I wish she knew how angry and I am how terrible her actions were.

They came to my door. They wanted to sign him up when he turned 4. They called me repeatedly to make sure we came. In the first 5 minutes, I was so excited to get him enrolled and come every week. Her behavior turned so quick. I guess I dogged a bullet. I hope you avoid it too.

Update: I’ve enrolled my son in karate through ActivStars. They are so kind and it’s so much cheaper than this place. My son is loving karate SOMEWHERE ELSE!

BE VERY CAREFUL about the 6-month contract obligation. My grandson totally lost interest after about 3 months, and stopped putting forth the effort in classes. I talked to one of the instructors, Mr. Garrett, who tried various ways to encourage my grandson, which worked only sometimes. After a couple more weeks, I then spoke with one of the owners, Kristi Sandoval. She really didn't care about my grandson, and proceeded to give me parenting advice for a kid that she knows nothing about! She had no inclination whatsoever to try and work out a solution for my grandson!

Initially, Mr. Garrett did his best to help my grandson, but after speaking with Kristi Sandoval, everyone seemed to not care if he was doing the moves correctly or not. I really think she talked to the instructors and told them not to give him any extra attention, even if he was not doing things correctly.

So again, think twice before you sign a six month contract, because after reading other reviews, I realize others have experienced the lack of compassion and understanding from Sandoval Karate that I did! It's all about the money for them!

If you're looking to teach your kid dishonor and shady billing practices, then this is the place for you. They do not have trustworthy office manager or instructor and everything should be communicated in writing. We used to go everyday and then my kids had other school sports to deal with so their attendance fell to zero. We had a few calls with the office manager(Jen)and the instructor and at that time told them we would not be coming anymore. We agreed to take a few private lessons to make up of the lost lessons. The office manager "Jen" said she would mark their slips for cancelation. That never happened and they continue to bill us. We called up and asked why the charges after all this time, they claim we needed to submit the cancellation in writing. This is very disingenuous and wrong. What's worse is they try to fight their right to bill you with the CC company instead of doing the right thing.
If you choose to use this school, you or your child will obviously not learn about trust and honor but they will learn about shady business and billing practices.

I would not recommend anyone to this place. Please consider another karate program for your children. This place signs up too many kids that before you know it, there is no place to sit and watch your children as they attend the classes. They also rarely have employees at the front office and it is run by the older kids that attend the karate program. This makes it hard to get any questions answered. The karate instructor is great, but usually he lets the older kids teach the class. On top of that, they make it purposely difficult to cancel the contract and make it so you get locked in to a automatically renewing contract. Please be sure about this place before signing up because they will extend the contract as long as they can without caring about you wanting to cancel and send you to collections if you stop paying.

My son has been going here for several years now and started at their Chandler location and moved to Tempe when they relocated. Friendly instructors and my son is learning a lot and enjoying it. They do require a six month contract agreement that auto renews without any notice. Some people have left negative reviews upset about this, however an agreement is an agreement, and they are very clear up front with everything. They will be opening a snack bar area soon which is cool.

We have been to two other karate places and this one is by far the best. The instructors are attentive and very helpful. Beginner to advanced this is the place for your kids! One thing they could work on is more seating for parents but I know they are limited on space.

No Transparency in Rates and dodgy business practice with zero customer service. The front desk lady Jennifer has no customer skills and determines rates whatever they name the price, and when asked, will mention about grandfathering the rates. Either way we had unforeseen circumstances, and she didn't care about the family buy only wanted the MONEY as per contract (contract that is not formalized). It’s apparent that the kids are only contracts and $$, because this is what Jennifer told us “that we have 500+ kids signed up in Valley and we can't help family with unforeseen circumstances to come of the contracts”

Again the prices are NOT Transparent for the services provided. I would highly recommend shopping around other Karate/Judo places before you get entangled with the fictitious contracts by offering some initial free giveaways.

The 5 star rating is for the instruction the kids receive. If I could rate the seating atmosphere I would give less stars. Some families bring 4-8 members taking up seats so it’s crowded. Some of the spectators use this time for family dinner and all the different types of food makes the whole place smell. If these two things were eliminated it would be much better.

The instructor are great. However the front desk Lady is not accommodating at all, she is shady sales person and is not transparent on give aways that binds into contracts. Just do your due diligence. There are other Karate schools and they are not stickler about contracts when comes to unwanted situations arises.

MONEY HUNGRY business with NO customer service. My son didn’t like it and doesn’t want to return but, they only want MONEY. It’s apparent that the kids are only contracts and $$, because this is what Jen told me “We have 500 kids signed up! Why would we make contracts people can get out of!?”

In the midst of this pandemic, they don’t temperature check or sanitize equipment between classes.

I have three girls in Sandoval Karate and they all love it! The teachers are very patient and professional. It's the perfect activity for my ADHD kid, my athletic kid, and my active little dragon. They are all so different, but Sandoval Karate fits each of their personality styles perfectly.

Poor business practices and are only out to get your money! I've been financing my grandson's classes through autopay. Sandoval has not held classes since March of this year but Sandoval was still withdrawing $77.50 twice a month from my account. I had asked them to cancel the classes multiple times and to reimburse me for all the times classes were not held or not attended by my grandson. They would not reimburse me but only offered credit/ make up time. So I put a stop payment on their account and now are threatening me with collections. I had left a message with Jennifer via phone...she has not called me back to discuss this further. She relayed an email to my son regarding collections.This COVID thing is not ending any time soon and Karate classes are non-essential. So credit/make-up time is not going to cut it! God is my vindicator or Karma!

My son and I both take classes at Sandoval Karate. The staff is great and the instructors are very knowledgeable. My son enjoys his classes and his focus and attention has greatly improved since attending Sandoval Karate. I especially appreciate them offering virtual classes during the pandemic, it has helped us keep some sense of normalcy for my son. The classes are great and they will push you to do your best. They are also very patient and caring with kids. I would recommend this dojo to anyone who is interested in learning martial arts.

Our family has been going to Sandoval Karate in Chandler for 15 months and we love it. Teachers are experienced, knowledgeable, and they will work with you to get you better at each class. At the end of each class they play a game with the kids, sometimes with adult class too. lol It's a fun way to finish class. The kids are learning to pay attention, respect, and to earn based on the work they put in. Teachers are very good to take the ability of each person and meet them at their level of expertise. I recommend this for both kids and adults. It's a good activity for the whole family, and keeping a little bit of healthy competition home on whom is going to get their next belt :) PS - in time where we couldn't attend class in studio, we had the option to do Zoom calls. It turns out to be very good classes online, and great way to keep learning from home. So thank you for taking care of us.

HORRIBLE SCAM! My daughter finished her 6 month contract and a week later they called asking about her absense. I told them she had finished her contract and we were no longer going there only to find out they AUTOMATICALLY RENEW YOUR CONTRACT FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION AND WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOU!!! Sales person contacted us while shopping at Walmart and encouraged to try for a month and they suggested we come on Tuesday. We liked the idea of having my son try for a month. First visit the instructor was very patient and helped my son. The part I didn't like is right after our first visit they invited us to their office, closed the blinds, and told us we had to make a 6 month commitment after just a 45 minute session. When I said we wanted to try for a month first as was promised to us she said we couldn't come on Tuesdays anymore which is the day that works for us. Felt like a bait and switch and high pressure, I want a company I can trust before making a $1K commitment. I don't like the idea of a 6 month commitment either as your child is still trying to figure out if this is something they want to do, we will try somewhere else. Could be a great place if they change their sales tactics.

My 8 year old and 11 year old are new to this location but they have experienced a great transition into the class. We brought our son who is three and a half, and despite being a little on the young side the staff has worked with him on all the skills with a good balance of support and discipline. We’ve seen a lot of improvement and growth from our son in just a few months. And we love the respect and focus the coaches demand of the students. Plus, He has a lot of fun.
