I love to get my exercise every other day. I can always find a treadmill, elliptical, or bike to use and I use many weight machines. I had a trainer, Miguel, help me figure out how to use the machines properly.

The YMCA team is amazing. Cody, Quinn, and Morgan, have made this such a fun experience for myself and my family. They always take the time to say hello, answer all of my (many) questions, and have made us feel welcome from the beginning. We look forward to seeing this team every week!

This YMCA is very nice and large enough to accommodate many members at once with no hassle.
There's plenty to do for a range of interests, and a tremendous gymnasium for full court B-Ball and Pickleball, that complements the huge workout facility, not to mention the large pool adjacent the men and woman's locker rooms.
The exercise machines are smart and intuitive. They also have a host of professional trainers.

So disappointed in the youth basketball league. My grandsons were both looking forward to learning skills and sportsmanship. I loved that the kids even take an oath before the game to reinforce the values. But, alas, thatβs just a facade for a disorganized, poor leadership, cheaper club team that relegates new players to teams that are absolutely slaughtered. Those young kids deserve better but learned a powerful lesson. They may never play again but they sure know how to spot poor sportsmanship where the scores are run up to shame the team of beginners by the kids that have been obviously playing together for years. Validated when I asked a few parents on the opposing team. Shame on you YMCA for shattering 2 boys passion and live of the game.

Signed my two sons up (ages 9 and 11) for Junior Suns and my husband volunteered to coach both teams. From the start there were issues with organization and evening out teams. First, the director took until the week the season started to get the roster of players out causing both teams to miss the entire first week of practice. The teams were full of all new players, which is great as this is a community league to learn. It was clear that most other teams had been playing together for years and most were club team players with full rosters. Not only did both of our kids teams have brand new players and new to each other, the roster was never full. These boys had to play full games with zero subs and something not even five players to fill the game. Each and every game has been a blow out against long standing teams with club players. It has been completely demeaning to these young players trying to learn the game. We were told the first games would place skill level against similar skill level and that was not the case. In summation.. the teams need to be leveled out to make learning possible for ALL players. Not a single one of these games has adhered to the sports pledge and I couldnβt be more disappointed. Itβs fine and good to allow club team members to play, however not balancing the teams is not helpful for any of the players to learn the art of sportsmanship and building confidence in these young players. Not to mention losing volunteers who arenβt willing to put these young kids through this week after week. I would not recommend this league and this experience to my worst enemy. These are developing kids. They deserve to have a space to build their skills and confidence. You wonβt find that here.

Now Iβm out of town in another state. Nation plan canβt find me. I canβt check my kid into kid zone. They have changed my home gym to theirs and my membership is all screwed up.

The Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Family YMCA on Shea Boulevard offers a welcoming environment with friendly staff and a variety of amenities. It features a fitness center, pool, basketball gym, racquetball courts, and childcare services, making it an excellent choice for families and individuals alike. The facility is well-maintained and provides a range of group fitness classes and community events. While some users note occasional issues with temperature control during summer months, overall, it is a great community-focused space. The staff is supportive, and the atmosphere is conducive to both exercise and socializing.
The Scottsdale/Paradise Valley YMCA hosts several special events for the community:
Healthy Kids Day: An annual event promoting health and wellness for kids, featuring activities, games, and healthy snacks.
Trunk or Treat: A Halloween-themed event where volunteers help set up and manage activities.
USA Pickleball Serves Clinic: An introductory pickleball session for local youth to learn the game's fundamentals.
Community CPR Awareness and Educational Events: Offering CPR and AED skills training for adults, children, and infants.
These events foster community engagement and provide educational opportunities.

I am having the worst experience with YMCA basketball program. The season started last week and we are still not assigned to a team. This is beyond frustrating. I have called and asked everyday last week hoping to get some update but we just have no clue about the schedule. Unbelievable lack of responsibility. You charge almost $200 for a few weeks and parents are coaches . You have one job that's assigning players to the teams and coordinate practice and game schedule. Unbelievable.

I spend 3 months of the winter in Scottsdale and use this βYβ as my go to workout centre while I am away from my own gym in Canada. The price is right and they have a great choice of morning classes with some exceptional instructors. The people are friendly and helpful and there always seems to be a bowl of fresh picked fruit from someoneβs garden to share with members. π The facility is well kept, clean and very well appointed with weight and treadmill equipment; as well as basketball, pickleball and racquetball courts. There is also an indoor childrenβs play area, an outdoor pool and change rooms with lockers. Definite gets a thumbs up from me!

Iβve been a happy member of the YMCA since 2004, when I was ready to get back into an exercise routine after my youngest was 4 years old; Iβve been motivated to keep going all these years for myself, as well as for kidsβ sports programs when my daughters were young. Our dedication to the Y ultimately lead to my daughters working out with me as teenagers and then as adults. These traditions created memories that I will always treasure.

This review is about youth sports. We've done several seasons of youth sports in different sports at different ages. Key problems with the Y's youth sports: (1.) Too many kids per team. They usually sign up 14-15 kids/team, so if it's basketball or volleyball, more kids are sitting than playing. (2.) Short practices / games. 1 practice + 1 game per week, each is 45 minutes. So if there are 15 kids per team, your kid might play for 1/3 to 1/2 of the game, so between practice + game, maybe they're getting 1 hour of activity. Sometimes games are on the other side of town so you have to drive 30-45 minutes each way for your kid to play for 15-20 minutes. (3.) Coaches. Every once in a while you get lucky and get a good coach. More often, you don't. Plus, they sometimes get a high school to coach for "service hours," and those kids aren't good at running an orderly practice or game. Also, you may get a coach that's super competitive and wants to win, so if there are 15 kids and your kid isn't a stronger player, you're paying for your kid to sit during games and watch other kids get most of the playing time.

The Y located on Shea is one of the best experiences I have had with any YMCA, and I have five comparisons. They truly have grasped the mission statement of service to the community. Visually you see the connection to the youth...and the involvement of everyone! The staff shines! The membership director, Edgar, is one of the most welcoming persons I have ever met. In the training department Brian E. has encompassed the role and is "point on" in executing with us in our personal training. Without exception, the staff is stellar, and I certainly wish I had the names of those professionals at the front desk that great you EACH and EVERY time you walk in. They are amazing. The pool staff was great through the summer and, unfortunately, the pool is closed until next year. One important comparison is the Y in Carefree which has the vibe of this is a "club" with money and privilege. And while the demographics may be different (older population?) the front desk contact, Kathy, is cold and running a business versus service to the community. There are welcoming staff here as well, the guy with the beard and all of the volunteers! But still, not as a welcoming vibe. All of the pool staff in Carefree is amazing and I met one exceptional lifeguard, Emily, that goes above and beyond.
Sure wish I had more names, to thank!

My granddaughter really enjoyed summer camp this year. Katerina and her staff ran a wonderful program - enough structure to be controlled but plenty of fun. Katerina is also is very good with children. We had some behavioral issues that she dealt with fairly and kindly. She really cares about the development of the kids.

Today my daughter who is 6 started her first day of camp. For the last two weeks, I have been talking to Danielle Gilmore. As a parent I wanted to know what was involved in the camp and wanted to know my daughter would be taken care of. Danielle assured me several times of my daughters safety and such putting excessive emphasis on swimming. I had mentioned to her that my daughter was not a strong swimmer. Danielle assured she would be tested and someone would be there to help and watch her.
I received a call an hour after swimming time that my daughter was pushed under water by "two girls." I was told that these girls were then sent home and were not allowed to return for two days. MY DAUGHTER WAS PUSHED AND HELD UNDER WATER! How did this happen if she took a "test" and was going to be "watched?"
AS I became irate on the phone, I asked my mom to pic her up as I was at work. My mom got to the club where they SEARCHED for my daughter (they didnt know where she was) for THIRTY minutes. They then had NO paperwork on her. NO PAPERWORK! That I sent over and signed in the am when I dropped her off. My mother waited as your staff fumbled around not knowing what was going on. She was then told by a staff member that the girls WERE returning to the camp and just coudnt swim. We then proceeded to talk to my daughter who told us there were NO adults in the water during swimming. "THEY WERE PLAYING CARDS!" She also was given NO swim test and was told to sit on the side why OTHER kids took the test. They then told her to jump in! After they held her under she came up crying, scared and the girls continued to call her a cry baby and other names. And a staff was NO WHERE around. I even emailed Danielle at 820 am because I had a bad feeling even when I dropped my daughter off. It was very unorganized. I emailed Danielle TWICE. NO response and it is not 5pm. I was told she was in the office too.

I have been playing basketball here on Sundays for over 5 years. In all that time only one staff member has made me feel welcome here. About 4 months ago I was attached by another basketball player, to the point the police were called because he wouldn't leave. I was surprised by this behavior at the YMCA. I was more disappointed to find out that the guy in question wasn't even a member. I go back yesterday to see a couple of the fellas and to my disappointment the same guy is still there, doing the same nonsense. He still isn't a member, I think I will try Planet Fitness , makes me sad.

Absolutely love this Scottsdale YMCA! Excellent staff with great attitudes, David and Damian in particular are always so helpful! The kids area is awesome, has a slide, Wii, tons of toys and awesome staff that greet my children by name with a big smile every time! Their gym has just been remodeled and has a great lay out. My absolute favorite thing is their yoga classes and teachers! Jan who teaches power and pulse yoga is amazing! She often incorporates a quick word about why we are doing a movement and how it helps our bodies, while still keeping the class fluid. I also very much enjoyed the yoga4all class on Friday taught by Angela. As she speaks throughout the class, it's almost like a mini therapy session for the mind and body. These instructors are very well educated and have a very nice flow in their classes. I love this YMCA!
