The instructor Justin’s guided heated flow class was nothing but relaxing and his style in incorporating different yoga style was just what I needed after a day of intense strength training and sore muscles. Not to mention, finding this yoga class on class pass brought me to this amazing facility that also features a BJJ gym and a recovery room that consists of red light therapy, sauna, cold plunge, and compression therapy. As a on and off practitioner of BJJ at different gyms in many states and overseas, this facility is THE gym that I have always dreamed of and have been in search for. I was so ecstatic of the beautiful atmosphere, diverse yoga classes (and heated!!), and the gym of my dream that I literally cried happy tears on the way home. Today’s first visit gave me a big purpose and I look forward to fully committing here. Finding this gym gave me so much motivation and happiness that words will never be able to describe. FYI, I never thought I’d commit to a studio, given the big benefits of class pass but this studio, for me, exceeded the benefits of the flexibility offered through the class pass platform.

Great instructor with great patience, wants to make things fun for the kids and not a chore. They give positive reinforcement and work well with all types of personalities. My grandchild loves to come and enjoy the interaction. She is developing nicely. Great job South Mountain Brazilian jujitsu! Keep up the great work!

I did the hot yoga class and it was great! It put my mind and body in a zen place, felt better after the workout! The instructor, Justin, was knowledgeable and gave clear directions when moving to different yoga poses! Definitely recommend!

My daughter started jiu jitsu at just 3 years old, and it’s been an incredible journey watching her grow not only in physical skill but also in confidence, discipline, and emotional intelligence. She’s learning how to be a great teammate, how to win with grace, lose with humility, and even how to breathe through challenges—skills that go far beyond the mat.
A huge part of this experience is thanks to Sarah. Her ability to connect with each child, to make every family feel welcome and safe, while still holding a deep respect for the art and discipline of jiu jitsu, is something truly special. She creates an environment that’s not only inspiring but also nurturing and empowering.

I started doing their hot yoga classes just over a month ago. I had no previous yoga experience and so far the 3 different classes and instructors I’ve tried have all been beginner friendly and challenging at the same time. I wanted to try yoga after I started having back issues that led to not being able to do high impact workouts anymore. It’s been a life changer for me because it relieves pain, helps with flexibility and anxiety. I will continue practicing hot yoga for as long as I can. I would like to see hot Pilates classes offered but for now, I’m enjoying learning yoga.

My two kids and husband have been taking classes here going on 2 years now. It has been a confidence boost for both of my kids and my husband has lost weight ever since he has started. Nothing but positive changes. Coach Sarah is so kind and great with kids. Coach Nigel is awesome too! I encourage anyone who is curious about bjj come in and take a class.

South Mountain Movement & Wellness has been an amazing addition to the Laveen community! I've been training jiu jitsu here for the last couple of years and I was looking into ways to improvement my overall health. Being able to add recovery to my routine has been such a game changer!

The recovery center at SMMW is a wonderful relaxation center after a long week or a good roll in their BJJ class. The hot and cold therapy helps my body heal and recover faster than I thought was possible.

They went all out on their expansion. Showers are those rainfall ones, stalls are private and that’s just the bathrooms! All who work there are overqualified, which makes us sooo lucky to receive their guidance. Their recovery center and hot yoga keep me going! And the jiu jitsu has changed my life.

It’s a place where you can take care of your whole self—whether it’s relaxing in the recovery center after a busy day, finding calm in a yoga class, or challenging yourself with jiu jitsu. After a long workday or tough workout, it’s such a gift to have a place where I can reset, recharge, and feel my best.
Jiu jitsu is truly life-changing. It’s not just about fitness—it teaches real-world self-defense skills, builds confidence, and helps develop mental toughness. It’s empowering on so many levels and something I hope everyone has the opportunity to learn and experience.
The staff, instructors, and coaches here are absolutely wonderful, especially Sarah Black, the head coach. Her warmth, expertise, and genuine care for each person she works with truly makes all the difference. She and her husband Nigel run the gym together, teaching jiu-jitsu alongside Coach Danny. All three are incredibly talented and experienced black belts, and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from them.
Beyond their impressive skills, they’re exceptional when it comes to coaching kids. They create an environment that’s both engaging and supportive, making sure young learners develop strong foundations while having fun. Whether you're a beginner, more advanced, or a child just starting out, you feel supported every step of the way. With such a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere, I can’t recommend South Mountain Movement and Wellness enough!

Love this place! I have been practicing warm yoga for about a month now and I love this place. It is clean, has showers and even a recovery room. I haven't tried the recovery room but will be this weekend. Justin, one of the instructors is awesome! He leads his classes very well and is always very helpful with any information that I may need. The memberships/costs are very reasonable especially with the added benefits with the monthly membership. Can't wait to see what additional classes/instructors they add in the future!

The early morning yoga class gives me a quiet yet invigorating way to start my day. Justin is exceptional as our guide in this class. There are no judgements - you are encouraged to let your body tell you what it needs while still working your body into a great sweat! The focus is on centering yourself in the present moment - to which I reflect everyday at my stressful job. I feel stronger physically and emotionally. As a proud dad watching my entire family train at South Mountain Movement & Wellness, I can't say enough good things about this place. The instructors are phenomenal with both kids and adults, striking that perfect balance between pushing everyone to improve and keeping it fun. My kids have absolutely blossomed here - their confidence has skyrocketed, and it's amazing to see them learning real self-defense skills while having a blast with their training partners. Even my daughter, who used to be so shy about wrestling, now eagerly demonstrates moves at home (usually attempting to armbar me throughout the day).
What really sets this place apart is how they've created such a strong family atmosphere. My wife and I get to train in the adult classes, and we really enjoy the community here. Lots of the adults have children who also train in the community, and its wonderful seeing the entire family on the mats! The other parents and students have become great friends, and we often send each other jujitsu memes on Instagram. The facility is always clean, the schedule is flexible enough to accommodate our crazy family logistics, and they genuinely care about every student's progress. I honestly don't know how Coach Sarah and Coach Danny remember all the kids names.
Sarah and Nigel have created something really special here, and signing up was one of the best decisions we've made for our family, both for our physical fitness and our sense of community. I hope as the community grows we can add more no-gi classes and continue fostering our wonderful culture.

I love South Mountain Wellness. The yoga classes are just what I needed. Shiela is a wonderful teacher. I love how she explains how to go deeper into yoga postures with specific body corrections. She also shares her wisdom in meaningful ways on how to release things that are not serving you. I feel more relaxed and capable of handling daily stress when I take her class.
I also love taking Animal Flow with Kathy. The core work is so challenging, but Kathy does a fabulous job explaining how to do the poses and makes it really fun. I look forward to this class every Tuesday!
