Disappointed and Disheartened Experience – Not Inclusive for Children with Speech Delays
While the facility at Surprise Angels is clean and well-maintained, and the instructors initially seemed attentive, I feel it's important to share our experience so other parents especially those of children with speech delays so you can make an informed decision.
I'm a 30-year-old African American mother, and my 5-year-old daughter, who has a speech delay but can follow directions attended two trial classes at the beginning of summer. During the first class, like many curious children experiencing something new, she wanted to explore and ran around a bit. I was told this wasn’t safe, which I completely understood and I reassured the instructor that with time and routine, she would settle in.
By the second class, my daughter had already adjusted and participated more appropriately. However, instead of allowing her space to grow, the instructor (Julie) held her hand the entire time. This not only restricted her ability to engage in the class properly but also gave the impression that they didn’t trust her to follow directions on her own.
A week later, I received a call informing me that my daughter could not return unless she joined the "Mommy and Me" class meant for 18-month to 3-year-olds. This felt like a huge slap in the face. My daughter is 5 years old, highly capable physically, and mentally and just needs a bit more patience due to her speech delay not a downgrade in developmental expectations.
It was especially hurtful to be told that although it’s “normal” for kids to run around on their first day, they simply couldn't accommodate my child. It left me questioning whether this was about her speech, her age or something deeper.
To other parents of children with speech delays: please be aware that this facility may not be equipped or willing to support your child’s needs, even when those needs are met with communication, progress, and patience. A speech delay does not equate to a lack of intelligence or ability, and it’s disheartening that this was not recognized here.
Inclusivity matters and unfortunately, our experience at Surprise Angels did not reflect that value.

I wish we knew about Surprise Angels sooner. We would have had our girls enrolled years ago.
We had attended another gymnastics place for a day to see if our girls enjoyed the sport. They started the girls off doing many summersaults back and forth across the large gym, which really hurt their necks. They had sweet teenage girls teaching them, but it just didn't seem like a good fit for our family.
Continuing our search, we found Surprise Angel's website, and they were starting a homeschool class! We gave them a try. It is a very nice gym. Their coach, Miss Kirstein is amazing! She is a competition coach as well. She is professional, patient, and very attentive, encouraging to every student. I feel the girls are safe and in good hands. After class, many days she goes over how they are doing in class.
The other coaches are wonderful as well. It is so fun to see the little ones too. So adorable.
Our girls have learned so much already. Their confidence is growing, as well as their strength, skills, and endurance. If our girls decide to continue we can have them advance into a higher level when ready, and even join the competition team if they decide to go that route when they have those skills. Right now, it is about them growing, building confidence, and having fun. They cannot wait for their class every week, and are always smiling.
They offer much more here, such as ballet, martial arts, and more. Hosting many special events for vacation days from school, parties and themed adventures for playing and birthdays.
They have a secure billing system that gave us a little pickle in the beginning, but Surprise Angels went above and beyond to make things right.
Our girls have been coming for just over 4 months now, and are enjoying it so much. We are enjoying see them grow in skills and confidence. They just participated in their first exibition. They were smiles the entire time. It was fun to see thr employees work so well together in a positive way to may the event special for thr kids. Everyone got to perform and coaches were by their side to guide and spot them.

Disappointing Experience – Poor Communication & Shady Business Practices
If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with Surprise Angels Gymnastics has been nothing but frustrating due to their lack of communication, poor record-keeping, and unprofessional billing practices.
They are quick to take your money but will never offer a refund. Instead, they push make-up classes as the only option, which is not always feasible for busy families. If you switch to a class that costs less, they will not refund or credit the difference— despite being told that you will get a credit for the next month. That's where the poor record keeping comes in handy for them, but if you owe them more, they’re quick to charge you.
Trying to reach anyone about issues is a nightmare—it’s a constant game of phone tag, and no one seems to have accurate records of anything.
Additionally, they move kids up in levels prematurely just to charge higher fees. The problem? The higher-level classes are overcrowded, making it nearly impossible to find a seat, and the quality of instruction significantly declines. My daughter was moved up to a higher level, yet there was absolutely no challenge for her in gymnastics. She actually did better at the recreational level because the training was more structured. It’s clear that this is just a money game, not about real skill progression.
If you’re looking for a well-organized, professional gymnastics facility, look elsewhere. This place is all about money, not about the kids.

Surprise Angles staff made hosting a gymnastics themed birthday party so fun and easy. Our birthday girl had a blast and felt so special. Staff made planning and coordination super easy and we are so so thankful!

NOT MILITARY FRIENDLY…We went to this gym for 3 years and 2.5 was spent on pre-team with the same girls. We are military and received orders to move this coming summer. I was told that because they have a waitlist for team and my daughter won’t be here anyway, they were moving her to Level 2 rec changing the trajectory of her training. Our military kids already have to start over with so much when we move and to have it happen before thats even happened, has been pretty upsetting. My 7 year old daughter still gets upset and asks to see her friends/team mates all the time:( There was no reason she couldn’t finish her time here with her team.

We were taking our kids to surprise gymnastics and that was great, the kids loved it. But this place is so much better. The classes are much smaller so my kids get way more attention with the teachers. The facility is really clean and the staff is super friendly. Both of my kids have told me they like this place better so I'm glad we made the switch.

Overpriced for what it is. You are paying for a world class gymnastics experience but getting a daycare experience. Otherwise it's a decent facility and the staff is friendly. Location in industrial area.

This place is overpriced, does the same thing week after week! You share the gym with 3 or 4 other classes. NOT worth $135 bucks a month for 4 times a month! Teenagers as coaches! Spend most of the time interacting with each other! I cant hate this place enough!!
Front desk lady is also rude. We will never be back!

When you take out a small fortune to have your child go through the program and then when she gets to the end, she’s told she isn’t aloud to perform because next time she wants to try cheer instead of gymnastics….. it’s like elementary all over again. #letmykaperform

My daughter has enjoyed her classes here. I docked one star - considered docking two - because they offer a preview class that you have to pay for. This seems very odd to me. To draw in business wouldn't you want to offer that as complimentary? Secondly, after the preview class, we were told the instructor is supposed to come out and talk to you about the level you should enroll your child in. No one spoke to us. We just stood there for ten minutes and then left. The following week we came, and saw an instructor speaking in detail to another parent who is there for a preview class. Clearly they struggle with employee inconsistencies and communication. It shouldn't be difficult, the parents are literally standing right there.

If could give 0 stars that be great my little girls excitement got smashed i don't understand the type of people they have working there in the front desk there so quick to take your money but can't refund and don't know their own employers when they will be there they made my little girl wait 1 hour and nee recalled her in for her class to just find out her classes ended she was crying an all they can tell me is do you want reschedule after we waited an hour!!! The guy in the front desk just seems so lost and told me the wrong thing instead of telling go walk in the class or have her walk in he told me to wait that they would call her they never did my baby girl was left so upset 😡 so now I have to keep on calling them to see when they will refund me just wow!! Do better !!

I am a gymnast that has attended here for a very long time. I have grown with great friends and coaches that have done nothing but care and support everything I have done. It is a place that is a distraction from real life and a place that I can have fun. I would reccomend coming here 100 percent.

My daughter has been at this gym since she was about 2 years old, now at 6 years she is a pre-team lady that loves the coaches. Their patience as she has overcome fears & insecurities with certain skills she has learned is fantastic. The facility can get a little cramped in the lobby or the parent observation room, but we stay for the quality of staff that works with the kids. Very family friendly.

My daughter is 6 and looks forward to gymnastics days! 🤸♂️ We love that Surprise Angels focuses on technique and safety along with teaching students the art and sport of gymnastics. Coming into this sport without a lot of prior knowledge myself, (and asking quite a few questions), the staff has been so kind and helpful in helping us find the right class suited for my daughter. She has learned so much over this past year and I see her growing and enjoying all she is learning. The coaches are great and we are thankful for this gym! We hope to enjoy gymnastics for many more years to come and have invited our friends 👫 ❤️

I SO, SO wanted to keep my little one going here. She is developmentally challenged, but regardless the instructor and staff were awesome. We placed her in an appropriate class and she loved the exercise, climbing, tumbling, and the instructor was extremely patient. Much more so than even I am at times (while ripping my hair out). I would give these ladies 10 🌟's if I could. Unfortunately, my daughter started a day program that is on the same days as the classes. I am SO bummed right now! I read reviews of kids falling and getting hurt or instructing each other. That sounds like gymnastics and peer tutoring. Getting hurt and learning from peers. That's how kids learn best. Any adult that doesn't think that their child should ever climbed a tree, probably doesn't need to send their kid out of the house. Play videogames, much less falling involved. LOLOL

I put my daughter into gymnastics to get some of her excess energy out to help her with her school work, so was I looking for something that made my daughter a gymnastic champ, not at all. But it has helped with so much more then getting energy out. The coaches are so patient with my daughter. This has built up her confidence in school in relations to failing once at something then trying again. She practices what she can at home which is a different direction then what shes done with prior sports shes wanted to try. I have to say that's the enthusiasm that's projected from her coaches and general feeling of the gym.

My son has been coming here since he was 18 months old. We started in the Mommy and Me class and now that he's old enough he comes to the Tykes class. He is four years old now and I'm so impressed with how much he can do! His favorite things are walking on the high beam and swinging on the rings. He also loves coming to the open gyms because they have free time in the gym and it's a lot of fun. The coaches are awesome and have so much fun with the kids. He loves it and and always looks forward to coming to class!
