I really enjoyed the classes that they offer such as Yoga. The teachers are excellent. You come away feeling really good. They also have an excellent weight room. Everything that you can find in a bigger gym, you can find here.

What do I like about the Tempe Y? They are a MARVELOUS institution staffed by AMAZING people who are doing WONDERFUL things for our community. I love being able to go to such a lovely place, exercise on state of the art equipment, while interacting with the LOVELY people who work at the Y making our world a better place. I also love seeing all of the families who have their children playing sports and all of the seniors living vital and beautiful lives. What else could you ask for? I can't think of anything.

The staff always kind, supportive, and always provided great communication. I really appreciate and enjoyed all the activities they did with the kid during summer camp session. This was my first time enrolling my daughter in the summer camp program and the Y exceeded all of my expectations. Great Staff!

Very welcoming team and also great facilities!
It is now two years in a row that we visit Tempe for a basketball tournament and we do all our warm up and pre game routine there.
The staff has been nothing short of warm and welcoming.
Thanks so much!

I'm going to do 4 stars instead of 3 because staff is very nice and I do like the workout space. But I have to agree with the other reviewer on the childcare. It is why we signed up, we pay the 110 family rate, and there really isn't a kids club, though it was presented to us as part of our membership. Almost always have to wait until they find someone to hang out with my daughter, and she's been in various different places with whichever employee. She's 5, she shouldn't have to sit in the e-sports room, she doesn't play video games and she doesn't last more than 20 minutes in there... I've stopped bringing her to this location (we now go over to the Ahwatukee YMCA which isn't really close). It's awkward and sort of uncomfortable while we stand there and wait for whichever employee is stuck with her, and it doesn't feel particularly safe sometimes.

I recently attended the YMCA's new Zumba class with instructor Mindy, and I had the BEST time. The class was so energetic, with loads of fabulous music and allll the good vibes. The best part of the class was definitely the instructor, who had a huge smile on her face through the entire class. Literally every minute of it! She was so upbeat and encouraging, even to those in the class who were new or a little unsure. I would highly recommend this class to any Zumba lovers or anyone Zumba curious!

Don't be misled by the information on the website; the YMCA does not offer consistent childcare. I joined because they claim to offer "kid's club" childcare in the mornings and evenings. I was excited to have a safe place for my toddler while I worked out. However, each time I went, there was no staff member to watch her or the kid's club room was occupied by a meeting. After four attempts, I gave up on the YMCA. Unfortunately, the YMCA still charged me for another month. Overall, it was a waste of money and time.

The YMCA is more than a gym. The staff and the members make it a meeting place. You see your work out mates and make new ones. I go to Healthy Back Yoga and lift weights. Others do chair yoga or take a step class. There is so much offered that itβs easy to stay active and fit while making new friends.

I adore the Tempe YMCA. The staff is what makes this place what it is. Not only is it a wonderful place to work out, it is a great place to socialize with staff and other members. I have never experienced a community quite like this. Everyone, from the child care workers to the branch manager is kind and outgoing towards guests. The front desk workers knew my name quickly and greeted me every time I came in.

The staff has always found ways to go above and beyond to help support several of the boys I've fostered. They are excellent role models and just great people in general. My boys had the opportunity with the summer camp program to be involved in project competition and presentation to the City of Chandler, attend weekly field trips that included visiting colleges, radio station, baseball games, skating, water park, museums, the movies, etc. The boys really enjoyed the game room, swimming, the workout room, and the gym. This is so much better than the kids sitting around being lazy all summer!

Supervisor was very combative with my friends and I when we were trying to play Basketball for Father's Day. He said that we had to be members if we wanted to use the facility. This is not true because you can play if you pay $15 at any Y. I feel he was discriminating against us and trying his hardest to push us to get a membership. I'm very unhappy the way he treated us. I hope the Y can give more training to these people in Management!

In my opinion this is the best gym in the Valley. I've been to many over the years. The facility is great and the staff is very friendly. They accommodate each members individual needs. It has all the required equipment, no matter what your fitness level. My only suggestion for improvement would be to offer Sunday hours. Thank you Tempe YMCA,

The staff is great and the weight facilities are good, but I have been super frustrated and disappointed with the availability of the pool. I am a triathlete and initially signed up with the ymca because of the year round pool. I depend on having a pool year round for my training. Since 2013 I have used the pool at every point in the year, and was upset to hear that it would be closed this winter. I have tried to work around this, going to 2 locations far out of my way but it was difficult with my busy schedule. I was told it would be opening up at the end of April. I have a big race approaching and stuck with my membership knowing that I would have my local pool open again in enough time to train. I called to find out today that they decided to wait another month to open. I am paying good money for an amenity that I cannot use. I will be cancelling my membership this week.

We are having a terrible experience at the YMCA summer camp this year. (2016) The 'counselors' are rude and condescending to the kids.
The YMCA is the Young Men's 'Christian" Association.
The goal would be to teach these kids to be kind and to be nice to others through example. They kids should come out of there with GOOD Memories not hating everyday there.
The YMCA should be MUCH better than Boys & Girls Club and Much better than the City of Tempe school summer programs. It certainly cost a bunch more.
You need to hire people who actually like children and train them to teach values through fun games and team work. I did not expect this to be like the βhoodβ YMCA. If you have BAD kids there, then set your rules, hold firm to them and KICK THEM OUT !! Maybe their parents will get a clue that their kids need to work on their behavior. From:

We joined a week ago. My husband is military and was put on orders for the summer so we figure we would join the Y while he was gone. The kids could go to the play area and mom would get a workout in. The kids begged me to go to the pool this weekend. Despite feeling a little off I took them. When I dropped them off in the kids area the check in computer wasn't working. One of the staff stood and stared at me. The other one told me to sign them in manually. They didn't greet my kids or talk to them. I had to go up to the employee who was staring and say, "my kids names are....". I got to the locker room and started feeling gross. I figured I would lay down at the pool for a few minutes until it passed. I progressively felt worse, until I knew I was going to be sick. I went to the women's locker room, I didn't make it to the toilet, and got sick on the floor. In comes a booming voice, "I'm coming in". Donny from maintainence. This man stands over me by the toilets and says, "do I need to call 911", I say no. His response, "you've got to do something and clean up whatever that is on the floor". Then he leaves. Rudeness. He treated me like pond scumb.
I went in the hospital Saturday night and have been in here ever since with an infection that caused me to feel so awful. When I get out of here I will contact every person I need to in the organization for some logic on that scenario. How about getting some service skills? Secondly, don't send the maintainence man in the women's locker room to be the voice of compassion for the YMCA. Perhaps his time would be better served fixing the clocks on the wall that are all different by forty minutes. Totally rude, inept, poor leadership. Seriously, who sends the maintenance man in the women's locker room for a person getting sick? That's like needing a hair dresser and sending over someone with a lawn mower.
