I knew nothing about boxing before my first class which was box+. Duan took the time to go over the fundamentals with me and made sure I had the proper form. I didn't feel out of place and was welcomed. I had a great workout and I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next class.

Just renewed my membership after trying out one month - having an absolute blast.
I was looking for something to boost my cardiac health, work hand-eye coordination and balance, and sharpen agility/reflexes. Boxing fits that bill, but I'm not interested in contact sparring. I thought that would be a barrier to me giving it a try, but that's no issue here.
Duane's sessions are a perfect blend of boxing fundamentals, agility drills, bag/mitt work, and everything between. Plus, it's just a good old fashioned killer workout. My shoulders are getting stronger, my cardio endurance is increasing, and I learn new things every session.
Couldn't have asked for a better coach (Maddie's classes are a hit too!) with a straight forward, no bull approach that still meets anyone where they're at. No session is the same, but each one bleeds into the other. All the other members are fantastic too, always ready to give pointers and tips.
All I can say is I walk away from every session sweaty, in a great mood, and actively thinking of the ways I can be better the next time I walk in. What else could you ask for?

Messaged Duane on IG to talk about wanting to grow my knowledge in boxing, I came in for an assessment and already have learned so much from him. The attention to detail is everything with him. 10/10 experience, will be coming back to continue to grow and learn!

Came here after my last gym closed. I was looking to improve my technique and refine my boxing skills. Duane is the real deal. It didn't take too many classes to improve my form, conditioning, and expand my boxing knowledge. I wanted a place where boxing was taken seriously, and Duane and Rashod create a training environment that I'm always excited to return to.

I was a member at The Pound until it was time for my knee replacements.
I'm a 67 yr old retired USA Master's Boxer, personal trainer, and coach.
I loved going to The Pound because I could train and do my own thing without being bothered by anybody.
I've watched the trainers and even took some sessions with Duane along with a couple of classes. You can pretty much be at any level, and it's a great gym and atmosphere.
Watching Duane MANY times with clients would NEVER yell or belittle anybody! I have a ton of experience with clients of all types. Being semi retired, trust me that I know how to work with people of ALL types. From disabled to athletic competitive athletes.
Duane is a very good trainer and is patient with his members/clients.
AND when I recover from knee replacements:

I spend most of my time on the East Coast and go to an outstanding boxing gym there. I have been searching for a similar high-caliber boxing gym in Scottsdale, where we spend about 1/4 of our year. Unfortunately, the vast majority of boxing gyms here focus on "boxercise," which, if that's what you're looking for, is great. However, I like to focus on boxing technique and improve my overall boxing capabilities. I found that The Pound is the only place in this area that fits that bill. Duane is knowledgeable and experienced, and like my gym back home, spends time on technique as well as getting a great workout. My philosophy is why not learn proper technique as well as get a great workout. I highly recommend The Pound.

If you have been to a boxing coach and have feel like you still don't know how to throw a punch, it's probably because they don't know how to teach the fundamentals. Duane not only gives you an amazing workout but teaches the fundamentals of boxing so you can finally have progress.
Also, As a strength coach who has worked with boxing coaches in the past with biomechanics, Duane is one of the best I have personally worked with.
Stop searching, just give Pound a call.

If you’ve been contemplating starting boxing or have been doing it for years, the pound gym is your place. Having never done boxing before in my life, I was so nervous to start. But as soon as I set foot into the gym, I felt incredibly welcomed. There’s folks of all different skill types so you won’t feel out of place. Duane is an amazing coach who caters to everyones level. He is highly skilled and leads with clear communication. Every class is different so you’ll never grow tired like most types of class settings out there. Classes range from cardio, boxing, and all the way to hitting target areas. You’ll sweat, you’ll be challenged, and you’ll feel amazing afterwards. There’s classes everyday throughout various times to fit around any schedule. I’m so grateful to have found the pound gym, Duane, and the amazing coaches here.

"I've been on my boxing journey for over two years, starting at a national franchise that closed its doors. This twist of fate led me to Duane and The Pound in Scottsdale. From the first intense and eye-opening workout, I was completely captivated. The Pound isn't just about breaking a sweat; it's a hub of genuine boxing knowledge where the trainers are masters of the craft. The focus on technique and the essence of boxing is what sets this gym apart. Each session is more than just a workout; it's a lesson in the 'sweet science', gradually refining my skills and pushing me beyond my limits. For anyone looking to dive into authentic boxing training, The Pound is the perfect place to lace up your gloves and learn from the best. Their patient and knowledgeable instruction ensures you improve with every jab and hook. Highly recommended!"

I have never stepped foot into a boxing gym before. I found The Pound Gym online and reached out. Duane was very inviting and friendly when I was unsure and had a ton of questions. I attended my first class at the beginning of May… I had no clue what to expect… and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Everyone is very friendly and are all there to learn boxing and to get a great workout in. Duane has been very patient teaching the fundamentals to someone like myself that has never boxed a day in my life. He has been able to push and encourage me to do a little more and a little better every time I walk into the gym. I’m very happy I found The Pound Gym and am being taught the proper technique of boxing by a consummate professional like Duane!

Ruined my confidence with boxing. I really tried to avoid this review but after a year, I decided to write a review. I'm a beginner boxer. I came in on a Friday night for Boxing basics and it was taught by Duane. He decided to pair people up for drills. I'm 5'6 in my forties and he paired with a 6'2 guy in his twenties and outweighs me by 40 pounds at least. The drill was throwing light jabs to partner's glove to learn about spacing. My partner who is very "punch heavy" and loves violence kept hitting me in my face. It was a CLEAR advantage for my parter becuase he's much taller and with a longer reach. Duane saw this. It was supposed to last 2 rounds but Duane kept me and my partner to do the drill over and over again. He kept yelling at me to move my feet a certain way which was never taught to us in class and it was hard when you have a 6'2 guy throwing hard jabs in your face hard. He kept doing this drill with me and only him again, again, and again. It's to the point were the entire class just stopped to watch this man repeated punch me in the face over and over again. I understand that Duane wanted to me learn but my partner was trying to kill me and going full force. I obvliously have no idea on how to block and move my feet. AND Duane kept making us doing the drill again, again, again. So this is what happened, I get repeated punched in a face by a man much taller than me who's trying to knock me out, Duane screaming instructions at me and obviously getting disappointed, this lasted for 15 painful mintues. This was not a sparring class, it was a cardio, begginer boxing class to teach about the basics. Afterwards, I heard someone made a comment about me, "he likes getting punched in the face." I tried to talk to Duane afterwards to learn what I could have done differently but he didn't care and just wanted to go home. I quit boxing and I will NEVER come in again.

I love boxing classes with Duane and his team. Even if you’ve never punched anything your whole life, you’ll be fine.
You always get a great workout but the best part is that they take the time to teach you about the sport. Proper technique, stance, motion, etc. I am in better shape and more confident in myself because I'm learning how to be better at something.
Great for all ages from kids to 60s and 70s. I’m 40 and often the youngest in class.

Big shoutout to Duane. He was so friendly and even though I came to a class thinking it was just going to be cardio, he made me feel at ease even though I had never done boxing before. Since I didn't have any equipment as I came in so clueless, he was so kind to lend me some boxing gloves. He also made sure to check in on me during class and was very patient even though I'm not the most coordinated person. He helped me with form corrections and also gave me tips and advice. He walked around the class as he was teaching and he made sure to encouraged and continue to teach other people as well. It really shows that he cares as he made sure everyone was doing their best.
He also put on great music that kept us energized. I really enjoyed the partner work that he had his due to and his students were very helpful and made me feel at ease too.
I hope I can come back soon when I'm in the area.

I'm so glad that I saw the negative review left here and after witnessing the employees online acting aggressively and ghetto I will make sure that no one I know in Scottsdale visits this gym.
