Looking to get stronger and have a healthier life? The Protocol is the place to go.

I have been participating in the small group training classes at The Protocol for nearly a year.

I had used Kettlebells in the past and was hesitant to use them again, since I had previous shoulder pain. I quickly found out I did not have proper instruction, and have not experienced any shoulder pain, now that I am using them the right way.

I am so glad I trusted the staff and the process so I could increase my flexibility and strength. I love seeing the definition in my arms and legs, and knowing that the things I've learned will help me live a better life.

Every coach I've had has been professional and knowledgeable, and somehow make working out fun.

The Protocol feels like a community with lots of encouragement from coaches as well as other students.

Jerry and his team are great! I struggle with regular gyms and really like having someone more dedicated to ensuring i am getting the most out of my workouts. I feel better, stronger and more in tune with my body than i have been in years. They immediately made me feel at home and I never felt like i was being left behind as a new student. I asked all the dumb questions and they always answered with a smile making sure i am up to speed and not afraid to politely correct me if doing something incorrectly. If you are looking for a place to get your life back on track like me, The Protocol is the place to start.

I visited The Protocol Strength & Conditioning in Tucson and was blown away. This place has wow factor! Jerry and his team are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and professional.

The gym is clean, well-organized, and perfect for entry-level clients or anyone wanting to get stronger and move better. Their focus on kettlebell training, strength, and mobility truly sets them apart. Having a licensed physical therapist on-site makes it a complete and safe fitness experience.

If you want expert coaching in a supportive environment, The Protocol is the place to be.

I have been a happy, strong and injury free Protocol Student for 13+ years. What I love the most about the Protocol is the people, from the coaches to the students who are committed to building a community of healthier, stronger individuals. The classes are small, which allows for all students to receive personalized instruction/feedback. Jerry and his team emphasize proper technique and to listen to our bodies, I attribute that to being able to walk out of the gym pain/injury free every week even as I get older.

When I first called 13+ years Jerry it was so I could walk up the stairs without getting winded, little did I know that call would change my life. I went from being a little lady who could barely walk to still being a little lady who can now do pushups, pull ups, is proficient using kettlebells and can deadlift 2x her body weight. The Protocol has made me stronger, healthier and more confident. I feel blessed to have found a community that I now call my second family

Update - I joined the protocol in Sept of 2024 as a first timer to strength training, and after a few months of training there I learned I was pregnant. My baby girl was born in September 2025. I can’t help but think my improved strength and fitness has something to do with it all. The coaches were all amazing helping me to navigate the sessions with modifications as necessary and it was really rewarding to continue to have great sessions into my pregnancy that still were plenty challenging, while very much in tune to safety. Everyone was so supportive, and experiencing the personal touch tailored to my evolving physical state is not something you’d find a lot of places! And that is what they do for their clients. Thank you for your role in my having a healthy pregnancy and delivery, Jerry and crew. I’m grateful for you guys!

Wow! I’m so glad I chose the Protocol to get started with my journey to a stronger and healthier me. I had no idea where to start with strength and conditioning; I just knew that in my 40s it was time to invest in my body’s health, strength and mobility under guidance from professionals. So, after reading all the amazing reviews I was really excited about this place. It has far exceeded any expectations I might have had. In fact, I can’t shut up about it to anyone who will listen! I’ve learned so much in just a couple weeks and look forward to each session, and leave feeling like that was a) challenging, b) fun, c) informative. Jerry and his team are so knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and passionate as they work with you where you are, paying close attention and explaining things so well. Before starting at the Protocol, there were things I thought I simply couldn’t do, because they hurt my back or knees. It turns out I can do them, with the proper form and attentive guidance from these pros! I never would’ve learned this trying to tackle my goals on my own. The Protocol is definitely a gem!

I joined The Protocol in April of this year, and my experience - like that of many other members - has been nothing short of incredible. Owner/founder Jerry Trubman is to the gym what Rick Bayless is to the kitchen: professorial in his education, technique, and attention to detail, deeply passionate, and unwavering in his commitment to his team, his members and the sport of strength. The result is a custom experience that members will find nowhere else, and one that ranks The Protocol as one of the best gyms you will find anywhere. Period.

The small class sizes allow for very low member-to-instructor ratios, meaning you can expect personalized feedback at every session. The workouts are challenging and varied, and always - always - the instructors work with members to safely accommodate bodies and abilities. As an obese woman who's had her fair share of gym intimidation and frustration, The Protocol meets people exactly where they are, not where they think they should be. All ages, bodies and abilities are welcomed, challenged and celebrated.

At a time when many struggle to find their "third place," The Protocol has easily - and happily - become mine. I've experienced a big increase in strength and overall fitness, but my biggest gain? A community of like-minded people that are there to do better, be better. Since joining, I am better. A cardio floor, locker rooms and weight machines are perks at other gyms, and there are plenty of those in the Tucson area. There is only one Protocol. if you're looking for a gym that is low on frills, big on strength and even bigger on heart, your search stops here.

I had the pleasure of attending a workshop with Jerry at The protocol strength and conditioning while visiting Tucson, and I'm so glad I made time for it! They are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, making the entire experience engaging and enriching.

I walked away with new insights and practical tools that I can immediately apply to help my clients become more mobile, stronger and feel better in their bodies. My time with Jerry was not only informative but also deeply relevant to what I try to accomplish with my clients.

Everyone at the gym was welcoming, I'm so grateful for their flexibility in accommodating my schedule while visiting the city.

Honestly, don't wait, go and book with them, they have a unique combination of expertise, warmth and professionalism. Their program is accessible no matter what your level of fitness is and they will be able to help you reach whatever goal you have set for yourself. Highly recommend!!

The Protocol proved to be exactly what I was looking for. Being new to strength training and conditioning I was apprehensive about starting and knew I needed a place with personalized attention and experienced trainers who know what they're doing. I found exactly that with Jerry and his crew! And apparently only nice people are allowed to join because EVERYONE at the gym is wonderful! Highly recommend.

Coming to The Protocol has given me a new lease on life. A former avid hiker, I had become quite sedentary by my mid-70s and was recently challenged by my health professional to do some strength training. So, at the age of 77, I found The Protocol and am super glad that I did. I am learning so much and gradually getting stronger and more mobile in the Ageless Bodies class. Jerry and his team are very helpful and patient in teaching me new skills and challenging me to work hard to develop them. The small class size keeps me accountable, and it is encouraging to be able to work at the level I am at with alternate options due to my limited mobility in some areas. I look forward to coming to each session and to continuing to become stronger and more fit as I put in the effort required to do so. I highly recommend The Protocol for people of all ages.

I cannot begin to tell you how fortunate I feel to have found the Protocol! The staff are amazing, encouraging, and kind, with a focus on getting strong the right way for my middle-aged body (slow and steady with good form so as not to get injured). This has made all the difference. I have stayed with this gym longer than with any other gym to which I belonged and I’m seeing steady progress. 10 out of 10.

I’ve been training at The Protocol Strength & Conditioning for a year, and it’s been a fantastic experience. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and take the time to teach proper form. As someone who is 61 and new to formal strength training, I’ve gained both skill and confidence in working with weights. The classes are challenging but supportive, and the community is very welcoming. I especially appreciate how the programming is tailored to build both strength and mobility, and that it’s emailed out ahead of time. On top of that, every Sunday the owner, Jerry Trubman, shares bonus material that supports the bigger picture of healthy living beyond just strength training. I’d highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for expert coaching and a positive training environment.

My wife and I started taking classes because we wanted to participate in our first powerlifting competition. See photo. Jerry’s expertise helped us both improve our form and get PRs in all three lifts. Soon after we started taking more strength and conditioning classes and the other instructors, Kelli and Doug, were so knowledgeable as they introduced us to kettlebell exercises and technique.
I soon realized that the community at The Protocol is full of great, fun, and passionate people that enjoy training and getting stronger. I liked it there so much I became a coach as well.

I’ve been waiting to share my review until I really understood what The Protocol is all about. After 10 months of being a member, I can confidently say it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

Having been part of other group training gyms, I thought I knew what to expect—but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The Protocol is on a completely different level. Jerry and his trainers, Kelley and Walley, are the best in the business. They truly care—not just if you’re hurt, but also if you’re ready to push harder. Jerry has even come in early on his own time to work with me after setbacks. That kind of dedication is rare.

The program itself is incredibly well thought out. Every day I walk in, there’s a clear plan, which makes it easy to stay consistent and keep progressing. The small class sizes mean you get the structure, support, and personal attention you need to succeed.

If you’re looking for accountability, expert coaching, and a supportive community, The Protocol is exactly where you need to be.

One day I asked my chiropractor if lifting would be something he would recommend? He said most definitely. Since I’m new to the area he referred me to Jerry at Protocol Strength & Conditioning as one of the best and trusted in town.

I reached out that same day and had a consultation with Jerry the next day. I signed up for the 5-personal training sessions which prepares you for the classes and assess where my abilities are. He was surprised at how far I had come rehabbing myself up to this point from a low-back injury in 2020. Now I was looking to build strength and mobility without machines while preventing injuries with a goal of one day lift.

Going into my first class I was confident, the welcoming atmosphere is filled with amazing people who are encouraging, fun, friendly, and everyone at their own level. Knowledgeable coaches who watch and instruct for form, weight and course correct as needed. You compare yourself to what you did the day, week, month before - keeping a journal is super helpful to see how far you’ve come.

The warm-up programming changes monthly while some are super fun others are challenging. The sessions on your given days each week are vastly different, depending on what the focus is which keeps you engaged. You wouldn’t want to miss a class, but it’s good to know there’s make-up ones available if you must. Scheduling is non-negotiable in my book - it’s pouring into yourself - so be sure to not miss a class.

The Protocol plays the long game. It’s never about just lifting heavier — it’s about proper form first, so you can continue to increase strength and mobility as it fits your ability as you age. Do 1% better every day and by the end of a year you’ll be 365% better.

When I started on April 5, 2025, i was barely able to do unweighted TGU end of July 2025, a 22 lbs TGU with control. Several weeks ago started nursing an injury of unknown origin, I’ve been able to keep training safely with modifications. I utilize alternative modalities to find the root cause of pain so working with the coaches and Jerry has helped keep me focused on the long game and keep coming back and doing what I can to keep moving.

To be honest I was hesitant about group classes, other gym glasses was my only experience and wasn’t a fan. These group classes are a different breed and caliber. PSC has literally checked all my boxes a gym could offer. Best decision I ever made. I’ve wasted money on gym memberships over the decades that I never went to, the benefit didn’t outweigh the price, or an injury took me out, even paying for 3-year memberships. So is PSC worth it? Are you worth it? The answer was YES for me.

I have been a member of the Protocol Strength and Conditioning Program for one year... It's amazing how quickly this year has passed. I feel blessed to have found this facility. In short, it is a brother and sisterhood of strength through community, but in reality, it is so much more. For me, the physical strength and vitality that the kettlebell, rowing, breathing and mobility training provide, has blended in nicely with my lifelong pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.

Jerry, the founder, is a high energy individual with a strong work ethic and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the members and staff of this facility. He is seemingly never too busy to talk or to coach, and his counsel has been spot on, to help me get the most out of my aging body, as well as improve my quality of life. My only regret is that I waited a little too long to start weight training. However, the good news is, that the style of training that is practiced here is similar to Martial Arts and Yoga in that, it offers benifits to individuals of any age or fitness level .

So, it is without hesitation that I give my highest recommendation To the Protocol.

I’ve known the owner, Jerry for quite some time now. In that time, I’ve watched him grow exponentially within himself, and his business. It’s reflected in the way he runs The Protocol, with strength, honor, and integrity. We were fortunate enough to attend an SFG I here to recertify our Elite status. The facility was top notch as well as the instruction. It was apparent that the same care goes into each and every one of The Protocols students. I’ve also taken a “get more students” course with Jerry and I can’t say enough good things about that. It was extremely eye opening, and I’m looking forward to implementing his strategies in the near future. If you want to train in a facility that truly cares about you and your goals, The Protocol S&C is the only place to be.

This isn’t about competition or the hardest workouts; it’s about accountability to yourself and becoming the best version of you. Every session is intentional, guided by amazing coaches who care. You’re not just doing random exercises—you’re engaging in thoughtful, purposeful training that builds strength, confidence, and a strong sense of community.

The Protocol deliver results and help you stay committed to your goals. The moment you enter this gym, you know it’s different—grounded in science, built on proven methods, and driven by a passion to help you thrive.

After just 4 months of crossfit, I injured my shoulder and was forced to take a break from lifting. That is, until I found Jerry, who taught me how to train in a way I never have - and that is: to train while preventing injury.
When I started at The Protocol, I had already gone to physical therapy for 6 months and felt that my shoulder was about 80% back to normal. At our first 1:1, Jerry introduced me to 3 exercises that I hadn't known about. Two weeks later, my shoulder felt 100% better.

A few months later, I began my first deadlifting and benching program and Jerry told me a guy my size should be deadlifting 315-350lbs and benching 200lb in no time. It seemed ludicrous at first, but 8 months after that, I was able to pull 405lbs and bench 215lbs for 3 reps thanks to Jerry, Kelli, and Wally.

I never thought I would be able to lift as much as I am without injuring myself again, let alone be able to lift and go straight to running a blue collar business later in the day without feeling any pain. With Jerry's coaching, I have been lifting heavier than I ever thought possible and now look forward to improving under his guidance every week.

I recently attended a three day Strong First workshop at The Protocol Strength & Conditioning gym. Their space offers everything you need for functional strength training and their experienced trainers provide personalized coaching with a high attention to detail, ensuring you train safely and effectively with proper form and technique. Over the three days of training at The Protocol, I showed massive improvements in my kettlebell training performance that would never have been achieved while training on my own. They quickly identified any bad habits and form in my lifts, while offering various techniques to enhance my training. I highly recommend The Protocol for those looking to unlock their full potential and achieve long-lasting results.

I recently attended a StrongFirst Kettlebell Instructor Certification (SFG I) at The Protocol Strength & Conditioning, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience. Jerry has created an incredible training environment that lives and breathes strength — not just physically, but in discipline, intention, and community.

As someone who values the StrongFirst principles, I was thrilled to see how well those values are upheld at The Protocol. Jerry’s instruction was top-tier — knowledgeable, precise, and always delivered with just the right balance of seriousness and humor. You can tell he lives what he teaches.

If you're serious about kettlebell training — or strength training in general — this is a place you need to visit. Whether it’s for a certification, workshop, or just a drop-in session, The Protocol is the real deal. Every time I’m in Tucson, I’ll be stopping in.

Protocol Strength & Conditioning in Tucson is more than just a gym—it’s a community. The coaches are very knowledgeable and genuinely invested in your progress. They strike the perfect balance between challenging you and ensuring proper form to avoid injury.

I was looking for a personal trainer/class that would keep me accountable, fun, and have a good community. I found that in the Protocol and more. I had lifted prior but was never taught good technique and form and within weeks I noticed a difference in my strength. My first powerlifting meet, as a lightweight 71-year-old, and I now have a couple of state and national records to my name. Training at The Protocol has been amazing. My strength and confidence grows. And all the while, Jerry keeps me in check. "We don't want to break Sally." I suspect there are few places where a senior can jump in, work hard, feel safe, get respect and thoroughly enjoy the experience. This is the epitome!

A bit of history, The Protocol was recommended by my physical therapist (lower back issues) just a few years ago. Best reference ever! I started with a detailed assessment before jumping in. Two years out from a compound Jones fracture to my foot, my issues included balance, strength, and general trepidation about how to safely exercise without re-injuring myself. I am hesitant to give my review because then everyone will know about this place. I started with private training and did this for 1.5 years. Maria, my trainer and co-owner of the gym, is very focused. With her attention, I was able to increase my confidence and get into shape without injury. After 1.5 years of private training, I decided to try classes. I didn’t think I’d like classes because I was used to one-one-one attention, but I do; I really do. Something about having other people in class helps make it fun. Classes are small, <= 6 people. I still get attention, but the bonus is… I get to overhear the trainers corrections of other students

As a yoga instructor and someone whose faced issues caused by hyper-mobility over the years, I have sought out a training facility that brought both 1-1 support with group-based support and camaraderie (and more accessible pricing versus 1-1 also helps). While the group HIIT classes at big-boxes or franchise facilities were sometimes "fun," I felt like a small fish in a big pond and never got much if any instruction on form or technique. I'm still in my 30s but I recognize the critical importance of developing lean mass especially as I age. I appreciate that Protocol brings some competitive edge (PR's on the board, etc.) but the focus is on providing programming and individualized support that meets each member. I also appreciate that I'm held accountable to tracking my own progress as it keeps me engaged--not some coach setting things up and then holding onto a journal I never see.

Many of the fellow members I train alongside are 10, 20 or more years my senior and the way they are able to move and lift is pretty mind-blowing! It's a great testament to the support and system that Protocol offers.

I've been a student of Jerry's for over a decade now, and I've now lost 12 dress sizes...

On a serious note, The Protocol is great. If you want to learn serious workout principles, you can do that. If you just want to work out and have some fun, you can do that too. You'll also learn the principles in spite of yourself. The small classes allow for a great student-coach interaction, and after 11 years, I'm still learning things.
And technically, those were pants sizes. Thanks Protocol Coaches!

I joined The Protocol six months ago to improve my strength and mobility. Turning 62, working from home and sitting behind a desk for the past three years had taken its toll on my body. I am one of those skinny-fat body types. I really never felt I was a physically strong person and walking into The Protocol and seeing Jerry swinging and pressing a kettlebell half my body weight with ease was very intimidating. Jerry reassured me that with practice and time I would be able to make serious progress and be able to swing heavier and heavier bells. Jerry was right, I even surprised myself at what I have been able to achieve in such short a period of time. Thanks to Jerry and his staff.

I joined The Protocol with many injuries; I was riddled with knee, back and shoulder issues. Unable to squat, get up off the floor, out of a chair without leverage or safely lift any weight above my head, I was given ways to modify exercises to meet my individual needs. After six months of classes, I can squat, lunge, lift and get up off the floor on my own merit. Thank you, Jerry, Marie, Matt and the entire Protocol staff for pushing me beyond what I thought possible!

I was looking for a gym that had some personal training & structure. I am a very self motivated person but needed extra help getting out of what I call a "Super Funk" brought on by having a desk job, life events and just becoming lazy. Jerry took me under his wing for a few days and taught me all the things I would need to know in classes which was the best training I have ever had and super fun too! I immediately signed up for 2 classes a week and have now increased to 4-5 times a week. All the staff & trainers are wonderful; they are always looking out for you and giving you tips on better and safer form and techniques in every class so you can be your very best. I always look forward to my next workout and could not be any happier with my decision to join The Protocol! Thank you so much Jerry & team!

I have been a member of the Protocol for almost 6 years. I no longer have to deal with lower back pain which had plagued me for years. I am closing in on 50 but I am the strongest I have been since I was 20. The culture and the coaching is what sets this gym apart from the rest. Group classes are full of encouragement from coaches and classmates regardless if you are just starting out or a seasoned member. The class programing is always tested by the coaches before it reaches the students to ensure that the workout is balanced and reasonable. You will learn proper technique to minimize injury and if you have a limitation such as an old injury, the coaches will give you a workaround. If you are looking into increasing your strength, mobility, and overall health, the Protocol would be a great choice for actually achieving your goals.

I’ve been training at The Protocol for a few months now and love it. It’s the only fitness program I’ve experienced that provides onboarding sessions to introduce you to the movements and techniques involved in the classes. Those sessions were extremely helpful to make me feel like less of a “fish out of water” at my first class. Jerry is an excellent teacher and provides detailed instruction to help you get the most out of every exercise while staying safe and protecting yourself from injury. I’ve taken classes with several instructors, and while everyone has a slightly different style, they are all superb and emphasize the same core principles, so you have continuity across classes. Also, everyone is very welcoming thanks to the positive culture that Jerry and all the instructors foster. I came to The Protocol with a vague goal of getting strong and not ending up like my parents with failing health. I discovered a friendly community of people committed to continuous strength and fitness improvement that I can learn from, and that has been empowering and inspirational for me.

I came to the Protocol broken and tired. My previous gym was a 5 day a week, go until you drop type of program who's mantra was "always ready". I found myself chronically hurting and "never ready" to do what I love, mountain hunting. Finding Jerry and the Protocol has opened my eyes to the benefits of a balanced approach to maximizing whole body strength and the importance of recovery in your exercise plan. Coupling this with the personal attention you receive and the sense of camaraderie you feel with your workout crew has been a blessing. The mountains aren't so tall anymore and I now feel "ready" to attack them with the confidence I need.

I have been going to The Protocol for almost 6 years. I've worked mostly with Marie Trubman, and I love her. She is a great Personal Trainer. VERY knowledgeable about the exercises and exactly what each one is about, where it helps, strengthens, conditions, etc. She is very in-touch with my age (85) and what I can and cannot do. I have to admit she sometimes takes it easy on me, but she is usually very focused on helping me. And she has! I HIGHLY recommend Marie and the Protocol Strength & Conditioning, LLC. I joined The Protocol, after having finished physical therapy for a back injury, in 2015. When the physical therapy sessions had come to an end, I knew that while being officially discharged from the program, the rehabilitation was not done. It was a case of either holding my own and progressing, or sliding backward again into the world of pain and non function. Hiking was an an activity I’d had to curtail during the rehab, but it had been one of my main joys and became the number one factor for wanting to completely recover. For that reason, I joined the gym in hopes of resuming the activity and have never looked back. Jerry and his team brought me back not only from that original back injury, but also from a far more devastating accident that involved the whole right shoulder complex and a prediction from the doctor and a physical therapy team that the right arm would never be able to reach above my ear. Boy, were they proved wrong! In both cases I thought that I had lost an active life as I once knew it; but slowly, with the knowledge of the staff and modifications in the workout program, I was helped out of both injuries. I sincerely believe that the recovery would never have been as successful without the help and knowledge of the trainers at the Protocol, nor would I have been as active and mobile as I am today. I will be eternally grateful that they were there when they were the most needed. Sign me 77 years old, can raise the gimpy arm to the sky, and still hiking the mountains around Tucson!

Jerry and the trainers at The Protocol have been excellent to work with. I came in about 1.5 years ago with lower back issues and mobility restrictions and have been able to gain the strength and conditioning to get back to normal actives with no issues. They are excellent at being able to adjust the workout to meet any restrictions while still getting the training and technique that was being focused on. The rotating programs has also been a great bonus to help work other skill and muscle areas while not making the workouts boring or cookie cutter. Finally rotating warmups based on the workout program and the weather help to make sure that your body is ready for the main workout. If you're looking for a gym with great attention to detail and trainers this is a very good choice.

I joined The Protocol in early May, needing to improve my mobility and overall fitness. I started with one-on-one sessions, and through continued assessment and feedback, my mobility significantly improved. These sessions with Jerry were amazingly positive experiences, and I loved the improvements I saw each time.

So why did it take me six months to write this review? Once I started participating in the weekly classes, I wanted to see how things would progress. Would I continue to see improvement in my fitness level with a more structured program? Would I get the same feedback and individualized attention? Would I still love the experience as much? Well, after six months, I can tell you YES!

The class structure (limited to 6) and programming are phenomenal. My classmates are fabulous and very supportive. Jerry and the coaches put much thought and energy into the weekly workouts. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution. The coaches know their students and understand how to modify the program for each individual as needed. You, in turn, know precisely what you're doing and how it will benefit you.

Joining The Protocol has been such a tremendous growth experience for me. A strength and conditioning program is a new adventure, and I'm finding satisfaction in swinging and lifting progressively heavier weights. I see a difference in my strength and balance and a positive impact on everyday tasks such as lifting and bending.

If you want to work out in a supportive environment that respects you as an individual, this is the place for you!

This is a refreshing change of pace from big box gyms. Whether you’re looking to get in shape and improve mobility or you’re a serious lifter looking to advance, this place is for you. The programming is well planned out and suitable for all ability levels, and the coaches are top notch and respected in their field. They’re also super nice, understanding, and patient which you need especially if you’re new to fitness. On a personal note, I love how diverse the Protocol family is. A year ago, I was introduced to Protocol Strength and Conditioning during the pandemic. At the time, I was just trying to find a place where I could continue to do weight training. Since I didn’t start to train regularly until my senior year of high school, I was still a rookie in terms of weight lifting. I don’t mean that I’m an expert now, but I’m still extremely happy to see the growth and improvement of myself physically and mentally during my time at the Protocol.

Protocol is a special place. It is not only a gym for my training but also a place where I found mentorships. Needless to say, the coaches at Protocol are highly professional and incredible individuals. They have coached me through walls after walls and challenges after challenges. I am lucky to be able to have these mentorships. The ultimate goal of weight training at Protocol is to become strong and I know that I have been making progress toward that goal. In fact, without the amazing workout modules and programs which are arranged by our coaches, and the cues after cues which I have received, I honestly don’t know where I am going to end up weight training wise. The feeling of hitting PRs at the end of a heavy metal program might be one of the best feelings in the world and I’m glad to have these wonderful moments at Protocol.

I am a 69-year-old woman who had a stem cell transplant 3 years ago with many complications and setbacks (including a broken hip). My strength, balance, and stamina had deteriorated greatly. Prior to the transplant I was fairly active, hiking, walking, water aerobics and a bit of yoga (not much). I was NEVER a gym rat. In January I saw an ad on Facebook about some “free” gym memberships for older people. Well, I knew that was just a come on and did not follow up on it. But it got me wondering if maybe I should try some thing different than what I had been doing which was pretty much nothing.

After just a bit of research I found The Protocol Strength & Conditioning program and the trainer Marie. I started in January with a few sessions with a personal trainer to evaluate my abilities and to introduce me to the training protocol. Now I am in a 3-person class (plus the instructor). I have had amazing progress since then. I brag to my friends that I can now get up off the floor with out having to drag myself to a chair to drag myself up. This may not sound like much but it is a big deal to me. Friends tell me how good I look. My posture is better and have more strength in my arms and core. This is all after only 2 months.

I never thought I would ever have a personal trainer or do interval training but here I am! Currently I am the slowest and weakest in the class but that is fine. Marie never asks me to do more than I can but encourages me to make consistent slow progress. My usual MO is to work fast and hard and then quit. I wish all my friends could be with me.

As an avid rock climber looking for a safe and sustainable way to get stronger and maintain my mobility Jerry Trubman and his team came HIGHLY recommended to me. Jerry and his team are solid. Many gyms do group training but the Protocol focuses a small group training rather than trying to stuff 30 people in a class with a cheerleader. As a local gym owner myself I appreciate what the Protocol brings to the fitness scene in Tucson. While everyone is going bigger, Jerry has continued to focus on quality with his system and not buying into the newest fads and trends.

1 want to take a moment to tell you how much I appreciate having Gus as a trainer and having a chance to workout in your gym. Since training with Gus I've been able to do boulder problems in the gym that are at least 1 to 2 grades harder than before with consistency, in addition to breaking into much harder grades in my sport climbing. I've never considered myself as a strong athlete, but have gained strength, mental toughness and confidence by training with Gus. He brings a lot of patience to the training sessions, he puts a lot of effort into our program and is very diligent in explaining concepts and showing us proper technique. The workouts are always challenging and fun! I would gladly recommend training with Gus for all climbers wishing to push their own boundaries.

I have been working out at the Protocol for almost 2 years. My job requires that I spend a lot of time sitting, and over the years I have developed aches and pains from hunching over. The last two years that I have been working out at the Protocol, I no longer have those aches and pains. The system, including the warmups and workouts at the Protocol have made me stronger, and have enriched my life. I am stronger to do the things in life I love, such as hiking, backpacking, and other outdoor activities with the family. Jerry and Matt are top notch trainers and always have your best interests in mind. I am very happy I found the Protocol.

Jerry helped prepare me for my first time competing at USAPL nationals. I am very new to the sport, and Nationals was going to be my second meet. Jerry also flew out to handle me at Nationals.

The first time I competed, I didn’t have a coach or handler with me. I had no idea what I was doing. I had the order of my lifts wrong. I almost washed out for not squatting to depth and jumping commands my very first time on the platform. It was an experience that was so anxiety producing, I questioned whether I should continue competing.

When I found Jerry, he rebuilt me, going back to basics and fixing my technique. My training program was completely revamped (I am an ex-crossfitter) to support my lifting and not trigger old injuries. I felt nervous but excited instead of anxious and somewhat terrified when I stepped on the platform at Nationals. I will never attempt to lift at a meet again without having a coach/handler there. Jerry developed a game plan for my warm ups and attempts that left me ready but still having gas in the tank to perform. I went nine for nine at my first Nationals and second meet, I have Jerry and Team Protocol to thank for my progress.

I started training at the Protocol 9 months ago. At my very first one on one with Jerry I realized this is the place for me. Jerry's vision as to what fitness should be about is cutting edge and heavily focused on body health and longevity. His ability to simplify what the strongest people on this planet do is unparalleled. If you are looking for a gym where the instructors care about you and are committed to getting you the result you want, this is the place for you. Because I was so inspired by the dedication Jerry has for his gym and his students I have gone from student to instructor at the Protocol and share the same drive to get our students to where they want to be. Truly a life changing gym. It was for me and if you are dedicated to make a change in your life it will be for you too.

After many years of a sedentary lifestyle I needed to make lifestyle changes. I tried multiple times starting new workout routines (at the "big box" gyms) but ultimately failed due to my own lack of commitment. I needed a facility that offered personal training and small group classes to keep me accountable. I found The Protocol and 8 months later I have never looked back. Jerry and his team are top notch!! The initial personal training sessions, you are personally assessed in multiple areas and they develop a personal program based on your current level of fitness, mobility, etc. I started out slowly with a conservative program. Continually during your time at The Protocol, you are reassessed and appropriate changes are made based on your new level of fitness, mobility, strength, etc. This allowed me to progress from "couch potato" to the best shape of my life in 8 months without any hint of an injury! I am the strongest, most mobile and cardiovascularly fit I have ever been in my entire life. I look forward to my classes/workouts and hate when I have to miss one. The small group training classes are awesome at keeping me motivated and accountable. You develop relationships with others in your class that I attribute to holding me accountable and my success. Don't expect results without a dedicated effort from yourself. Everybody always "has to do the work themselves" to get results but Jerry and his team provided the framework for me to succeed. The Protocol has a client for life!!

I was a “road warrior” for 38 years. As all self-respecting runners know, running is the only meaningful sport, the only sport that is challenging & the only sport that results in real fitness. It’s hard to express concisely just how wrong I was!
As I aged & attempted to stay active, I realized that to remain an athlete, I had to retain &/or restore mobility and I needed to obtain total body strength. Enter Tucson’s The Protocol Strength & Conditioning facility. Enter Jerry Trubman, my personal trainer and fitness & mobility expert for the last two years.
I was skeptical at first. Who was this young man espousing his philosophy of strength & mobility? Where were the machines? How could you become fit, mobile & strong through bodyweight, kettlebell and barbell programming? (& why!?! Are we NOT running!)
Jerry listened to me. He has an uncanny ability to assess fitness levels and design the programming, the process if you will, to help all levels of students meet their goals. I say process because yes, there is an initial fitness level assessment, but those personal assessments continue as you gain strength & mobility and programming is adjusted accordingly.
I listened to Jerry. The programming & the process worked! My mobility is greatly improved and in some instances restored. I am not only stronger, I am total body strong. I achieved fitness goals I never even dreamed were possible & I look forward to improving my strength & mobility for years to come.
Huge Thank you!! To Jerry and his team of most excellent trainers at The Protocol! Check them out, you will NOT be disappointed!

I have known Jerry Trubman for many years and I must say he just gets better with time. No matter your age, size, gender or ability, join the Protocol Strength & Conditioning and you are in good hands. For anyone who may be intimidated by a "gym atmosphere", this is the place for you. With all of Jerry's years of knowledgable experience, he recognizes that improving one's mobility and strength is all about working within your own capabilities. This is the cornerstone of The Protocol, all the while, encouraging each individual to become the very best version of themself.
Thank you, Mr. Trubman for providing Tucsonans a safe and healthy home away from home.

I have joined and worked with personal trainers in every gym in this town going back about 20 years. Everyone one of them were trying to make me do things I simply was not capable of doing. I was, recovering from back surgery of a ruptured disc. It didn't take long for me to become discouraged and quit. So over the years I reached a point of not being able to go grocery shopping because my stamina and mobility were nearly nil.

I started working with my personal trainer at Protocol about 9 months ago. My mobility has improved 100 fold and my stamina has improved as well. My trainer actually listens to my concerns and works with me within my capabilities and at the same time pushing me to do just a little more. Although weight loss is not my focus in have lost some weight which is a wonderful bonus.

Working out at Protocol with my personal trainer is one of the smartest and best decisions I have made in my adult life.

Years of doing the same movements the same way and not focusing on mobility has left me way too stiff. As a coach I know better....and I owe it to those I train to be better....

Really awesome to spend a a few weekends getting back on the ground, focusing on restoring lost movement, and grooving new movement patterns. It was a reminder of how we lose the capability to move when we don’t take time to mobilize and move around.

Even coaches need coaches! I am forever a follower of Jerry and team Protocol.

Thanks Jerry Trubman

The Protocol is the ONLY place I'll train when I'm in town, as I feel like the team here is top-notch. Although he tends to downplay it, Jerry is one of the smartest coaches around, and as a lifelong athlete at the age of 45, I have met a ton of coaches. His wife Marie is a total surprise, as she's sweet, professional, and really on her physical therapy game, but she's actually also an accomplished powerlifter and kettlebell instructor, too. And Matt is one of those really good guys who also happens to be an incredible educator and coach. These are 5 fully earned stars.

I recently moved and was looking for a gym close to my new place and stumbled upon The Protocol - I met with Jerry within a week - and knew that it was just the kind of place I was looking for. It's small in the sense that you know everybody who is in the gym when you are there and you get a tremendous amount of personal attention including advice specific to your needs. I'm a terrible self-motivator so the small group set-up there is perfect for me and much less expensive than having a personal trainer twice a week.

I've been working an office job for years now and have seen my body suffer for it. I've also had various big box gym memberships throughout the years but never really derived much benefit from them. In fact, I didn't like going to the gym, I would have rather gone on a hike or run. But being a fairly new father, I decided that investing in my health early before things got really bad was important. Because of this I signed up to the Protocol a little over a year ago and I'm glad I did.

The first couple months were very difficult and a telling sign to just how unfit I had become. Jerry and Matt were great at identifying my unique trouble areas and giving me just the right cues and levels of intensity to get me back on track. After about six months of guidance and hard work my body began "lining up." Things fell into place and I witnessed a big surge in strength and mobility in the months that followed. My posture improved, I lost weight despite increasing muscle mass, and even my cholesterol levels returned to normal without medication. In all I felt much better.

The group classes are small, no more than six people per class, so the trainers really focus on the members and give quality instruction. There is no waiting for equipment to become available and the place does not smell like a gym - it's actually kept very clean!

This isn't a gym where you haphazardly pump iron all day. This is very focused, intelligent training. The Protocol is not the cheapest place in town but it delivers a quality fitness program that will yield quality results. Overall I'm very happy with this place.

I have been working out with Jerry and The Protocol since June 2014. We are continually challenged to improve, I have left every class knowing that I was better than I walked in. Never boring, always learning, and always safe in any exercise with excellent instruction. Even though I've now moved away, I'm continuing as a Protocoller through on-line coaching because The Protocol has become part of my identity, knowing I'm stronger and more capable through my training here.

I was introduced to The Protocol almost three years ago. I was training for a trail marathon in Moab, UT and looking to add some strength training to my program. I have been a runner for years with many miles under me, but had never really incorporated strength training. And with my tall, thin frame I doubted my ability to add much in terms of muscle or upper body strength. Enter Jerry Trubman and The Protocol team. I loved the focus being on functional strength, that the goal of training was to increase ability at life, not to increase my ability to lift a heavier piece of metal in a gym. Of course, I did get to start lifting heavier pieces of metal in the gym. That year I ran 26.2 of the toughest miles of my life - and a year and a half later the Protocol’s programs allowed me to show off my amazing biceps, triceps, and lats in my wedding dress.
My love for The Protocol was reaffirmed about 6 months ago when I was diagnosed with a heart condition. I had to dramatically alter all of my training and was concerned that lifting would be eliminated. Luckily, part of the training team at The Protocol is Marie Trubman, trainer and physical therapist extraordinaire. Somehow I’ve lost no performance despite having to relearn technique and breathing pattern around my lifting.
I have to add a final shout out to coaches Matt Santucci and Renee Blanchard for sharing their experience in the traditional kettlebell classes and the brand new rowing classes.
My experience at the Protocol has been nothing but positive thanks to the focus on functional strength and lifelong mobility – goals that the nurse in me knows are the keys to long, healthy, and fulfilled life.

I recently moved from Colorado to Tucson and was searching for a gym where I could continue my kettlebell training. The first time I walked into The Protocol and met Jerry, Matt and Marie, I knew I was home. The small class sizes allow the coaches to pay attention to each attendee and ensure a safe and effective workout. I have grown stronger and learned how to perform the exercises with proper technique guaranteeing good health and mobility for many years to come. The atmosphere is warm and supportive. For many years I had exercised and done training at home. In 2016 I wanted to add kettle bell training to my routine and soon decided that the online video and training may not teach the correct form. My daughter's friend highly recommended Jerry and The Protocol. After talking with Jerry I decided to start a month class in October of 2016.. What I found was more than a Kettlebell class but a team of exceptional professional trainers, small class sizes and a family who care about the whole person. Jerry, Marie and Matt are not your typical trainers. They are attentive and ensure that you are performing the Kettlebell, warm ups and all exercises correctly. Also, they can identify quickly and accurately where your body has weaknesses and modify the exercises to build and strengthen those areas. I added a heavy metal program and have improved my core strength while lifting more weight than I ever thought possible, and at the same time, improving my overall health.

I'm a 17 year old who can now beat you in a arm wrestling match and complete a couple pistols squats! A few years ago I had surgery for Patellar Dislocation, and a friend recommended that I go to Jerry for physical therapy to help get my right leg stronger. Man, has he helped me excel far beyond simple leg strength! Jerry has helped me unlock my true physical potential and has boost my self confident by 100%! He pushes you as far as he knows you can go, yet always keeps safety in high priority. Jerry pours knowledge into me in every class, and has completely shifted my views on strength and physical health. I am honored to be in the tight knit community of strong, healthy, happy people he has built. His classes are small and direct; challenging, but not impossible. Jerry is one of the biggest mentors in my life, works hard, and all in all is a pretty AWESOME guy. I highly, highly encourage you to check the Protocol out. It could literally change your life!

The Protocol has provided me with a simple solution to getting stronger, increasing mobility and becoming healthier. The fundamental, simplistic skills taught at the Protocol are the foundation anyone can use to enhance their athletic performance or just overall health. Having been a rock climber for the past 20 year I have always been looking for new and better ways to train. After only 3 months as a member of the Protocol I have shown immediate improvements in my ability to perform as a rock climber. After explaining some of the specifics of my athletic discipline, Jerry quickly instructed me on some training advice that I believe will allow me to advance to new levels that I thought were impossible to achieve in my life. Already, I am measuring gains in strength and body tension while rock climbing. I found myself saying, “Whoa, what the hell is happening to my body? I feel amazing, I feel stronger, I’m having fun” and this is just a result of the Protocol classes alone. In addition to classes I have been able to meet with Jerry for private, one on one sessions to go deeper into rock climbing training specifics to dial in my focus on strength and conditioning that is perfect for maximizing the quality of my workouts. I am so fortunate to have met Jerry, Marie, Matt and the clients that are all part of the Protocol family and encourage others to join this special group of motivated people to enhance their health and happiness in life.

As an obsessed rock climber of 16 years, I'm constantly seeking ways to get stronger and stay injury free. I'd been considering adding some sort of weight training to my regimen and was referred to Jerry Trubman by a friend. Thinking I'd just take a few private lessons with Jerry to learn some basic lifts, I realized within the first 15 minutes of that initial phone conversation that this man was very, VERY good at what he does and simply a wealth of knowledge that I must tap into. I'm now a regular member at The Protocol and am becoming not just a stronger rock climber, but a stronger human being. Jerry's simple, straightforward, tried and true no-frills approach to strength and conditioning resonates well with the way I already like to train. Pair that with the contagious passion that Jerry, Marie and Matt all share for their sport and I don't see my Protocol membership expiring any time soon.
