Restaurant was filthy. Couldn't get service.had to go to the bar to order drinks & get menus. Had to go back up & order food because no one came. Kind of hard to justify paying dues here.

Steam room tests positive for mold
I am very disappointed with the Tucson Racquet Club due to multiple surprise price increases over the last year, only to be followed by hidden "enhancement" fees. Unfortunately, nothing has been improved. Every time I visit, some portion of the facility is consistently out of order. I already didn't feel like I was getting the full value, but the price increases kept coming, so I decided to cancel my membership.
As of this month, a $70 enhancement fee was added to my bill. When I inquired about what was being enhanced, I was told that the air conditioners were being replaced at $8,000 each. Air conditioning in Tucson is maintenance, not enhancement.
Here are some of my complaints:
- The facility is extremely outdated. The only area that receives investment is the tennis courts. The rest of the gym and facility have equipment from the '60s and '70s.
- Most of the treadmills and electric bikes have broken displays, and many don't work.
- Both Jacuzzis, especially the indoor one, are health hazards. The water is constantly a hazy green color with mold growing around the sides. This will be reported to the health department.
- The steam room is supposed to be cleaned once a week, but I have witnessed maintenance skipping it many times. It always has mold growing in the grout.
- The adult locker rooms are always dirty and often have roaches and other bugs.
-The restaurant food is very basic, with unhealthy options and high prices.
The club has gone downhill ever since the new ownership took over. Many other members I have spoken to share the same sentiment. They have also noticed how everything is broken all the time, making it difficult to enjoy the facilities. The facility was sold recently for an unbelievably cheap price between family members so you would think it would left some room for the new generation to make improvements without taking it out on the members who have been supporting them for years. There was news paper articles about the promises of improvement but there was no mention of it coming out of the member's pockets.
When I called to cancel as a result, they tried to enforce the contract that includes a 30-day cancellation policy. However, that same contract never mentioned anything about enhancement fees, so they had to release me and cancel my membership.
Overall, I would have loved to remain a member because of the history, charm, and location of the Racquet Club. However, with the membership already being over $100 a month, the continued surprise fees were too much without any improvements to the gym or other facilities to justify them. I guess a temporary price gouge is worth more to them than long-standing members.
I was also disappointed that during the initial walkthrough, we were not informed that the club turns into a children's summer camp/daycare for half of the year, with large groups of kids running around unattended, or when attended it is by a teenager not much older than them. They are in and out of the adult locker rooms, pools, etc.
Update: The Tucson Racquet club has responded with the very obviously AI written statement, which provides no solutions to any of the issues I highlighted. Very disappointing that they can't even take the time to have a human write a response addressing problems

Member for 21 years and finally gave up. Before i cancelled I spoke to management and membership and was assured access to the pools would improve. They agreed the reservation for swim lanes was not working but nothing changed. The other issue is the pool system while having just been repaired fails to keep the pools clean, especially the larger pool. The final straw was Friday night barbecue. I'd enjoyed these for years. Now rhe food has become over priced and declined in quality. The folks, ( I think an outside vendor ) were so rude and unhelpful, It actually made me sad. I thought I'll hop in the pool and still have a good time. Nope. The pool was so overloaded w chlorine my eyes and nose started burning. I'd hoped new owners would make meaningful improvements... the upstairs gym refresh was joke. Maybe for tennis, but as a workout or swim club, rec and park keeps cleaner pools and has better gyms. Wish I'd canceled before the now mandatory yearly $80 upkeep fee, on top monthly membership. Lots of good memories, sad ending.

Have been going here for years and it has gone downhill. RAPIDLY. Used to be a safe and fun environment for families to enjoy tucson summer and now they treat all of their guests like transactions. The family feel to this place has disappeared and our family is nothing but disappointed. Will NOT be returning here ever again.

Good food, great tennis, and amazing family vibes. They have a full gym, sauna, basketball courts, and events for kids and adults. Have been going to this club since I was 14 and I still come back for the people, the exercise and the food. Most of the people here are regulars and are always friendly to newcomers, cannot recommend this place enough

The Racquet Club is the Grande Dame of Tucson and offers something in a fitness center you can't get anywhere else in town: a sense of family, community. They have everything you'd expect, for example, multiple group fitness classes, a recently refurbished weight room and personal training. But they also have more than 20 tennis and pickleball courts each, racquetball courts two swimming pools (and a kiddie pool), and massage therapists. There are private and group lessons for adults and kids, summer camp and other activities for kids year-round. There is also a restaurant on site, and the club hosts a weekly BBQ with live music for the whole family.
In the past, it had seemed a little run down, but they've been working really hard over the last few years to up their game by putting in new pickleball courts, refurbishing the tennis courts, and updating the gym. There are still areas where they could improve -- especially as the buildings are older and harder to maintain, It's not trendy and slick with no soul. It's a friendly place with everything you want and more.

My wife and I relocated to Tucson about a year ago. We rented and selected a place to buy with proximity to TRC in mind. Boy, we are so glad we did. The welcoming tennis community, friendly staff, beautiful grounds, and opportunity to enjoy the spa and pools year round, have been a huge part of why we love Tucson so much. We are enjoying improving our game and developing new friendships and community connections along the way. We look forward to many more years of health and fun at the Racquet Club.

This old place was still serving their dirty water to the public failing the health inspection and most likely didnβt let anyone know to make themselves look good , this place is falling apart all because of poor management and they only care for themselves and the money that they clearly donβt invest in this dirty old club.

This place is poorly managed. Hot tubs are disgustingly dirty at least a few times a month. Old outdated equipment and when they do get new stuff it's the cheapest on the market. Hasn't changed sense the 90s but that's not a good thing......only reason I go is 24hours with dry sauna and steam room but even then it really isn't worth it. Update Oct 2024 steam room down for a week plus and they are doing a gym remodel which means the gym areas been closed for 3 weeks think they offer members a discount on membership......won't be renewing my membership after the year is up Please stop with this generic coppy paste reply you give everyone.....Plesse call and what get talked to like Im the problem and not your poorly ran club. Did you guys ever catch the locker bandit breaking into lockers or secured the fence by the back pool that homeless and others jump over at night does the steam room still smell like mold and mildew??? Upgraded the gym raising the ceiling and painting it is not a upgrade. Havent been back in months and i bet not one thing is improved.... Management at this place is to incompetent

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Tucson Fitness & Racquet Club. This place has serious issues that need to be addressed, starting with its health and cleanliness standards. The club failed a health inspection due to dirty personal water tanks but never informed customers or employees. Even worse, they continued serving water despite this issue, a major red flag.
The cleaning practices here are also unacceptable. Employees are given the wrong equipment or none at all, and are even expected to buy their own. Theyβre also forced to use the same rags to clean everything, which is completely unsanitary. Itβs no surprise that the showers are filthy and the facilities are outdated, especially since the club is severely understaffed when it comes to housekeeping. To make matters worse, management fails to appreciate or properly support its housekeeping team, despite how much work they have to do.
Beyond cleanliness, the customer experience is suffering. Overcharging is a common issue, yet itβs unclear where that extra money is going because it certainly isnβt being reinvested into the club. The service is unfriendly, and staff professionalism is seriously lacking.
This place has potential, but until management takes these concerns seriously and starts valuing both customers and employees, I canβt recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, well-run fitness club.

I realize I'm getting to that age that instead of going out and getting adrenaline with extreme sports or dating women with their ex boyfriends name still tattooed on their neck, I'm getting excitement by writing reviews for local businesses online. That's both okay and not OK. But here we are regardless. That being said, I've been looking into getting into some kind of club. Some sort of place for like-minded people to meet and share a passion for an activity. Since I'm too lazy and broke to get a motorcycle license let along a motorcycle, I wouldn't even make it past dive bar security trying to make new friends who participate in illicit activities and smoke cigarettes indoors and that makes me sad because that sounds right up my alley. Fight Clubs were cool 15 years ago when every guy WASNβT on easily available gear and TRT. Now that experience just sound insufferable with way too many egos. My friend's mom was having a bingo club night last week and we jokingly asked if we could go and join and the fact that she told us NO because it was a serious club and they had their championships going on infuriated us and actually made us actually want to go more.
So ive been denied illegal clubs and ive been denied senior citizen bingo night and thus I've been relegated to the realm of public and legal and therefore boring activities. And those generally revolve around something healthy and physical. I already go to the gym and that's a fantastic solo activity where I get to put headphones on and ignore and avoid everyone and make imaginary enemies based on glances and silent competition. Healthy? No? Fun and time consuming? Absolutely. But according to both my therapist and a crackhead on Speedway, I needed to get involved with a social activity that didn't require putting exotic dancers through community college. So I looked up social clubs for grown people and immediately the Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club came up. I liked that it sounded elite and exclusive. I only dabbled in racquetball at the SRC at university because the hot girls were on the treadmill right behind the glass and they could watch my buddy and I hit blue balls back and forth while wearing goofy looking glasses. Do I have an interest in smacking around blue balls at this point in my life? Not really. Do I want to tell strangers and frienemies that I am a valuable, top member of the Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club? You bet your bottom inflation ridden dollar I do.
The private club has become a Tucson tradition and is still owned by the founding since 1967. Now, apparently, thereβs 25 tennis, 22 pickleball and 11 racquetball courts. AND thereβs 2 Padel courts. Padel?? P-A-D-E-L. What in tarnation is padel? I just read that itβs a racket sport of Mexican origin, typically played in doubles on an enclosed court and itβs easier to learn than tennis. Perfect, I donβt have the time or patience to get into tennis and I needed something new, hip and niche to gatekeep as a hot professional because pickleball has become too popular. I saw on the website that they offer a free 3 day pass and 3 days to belong to an exclusive club was enough time to walk around town with a membership and gloat how much cooler I am than the poors around me.
I drove up to Country Club road which already felt awesomely elite and walked into the big cement building to be greeted by some friendly staff and saw the sprawling complex of several courts behind the doors. I asked them about my 3 day membership which they set me up with and then immediately walked over and bought a Padel from the shop so I could walk around downtown with it while wrapping a fancy sweater over my shoulders while wearing obnoxious sunglasses, pastel shorts and boat shoes. They asked if I wanted a tour and I declined for the time being. Iβll decide if I want to get into the social and health aspect AFTER iβm done being a padel pro snob for a few days. I liked what I saw though and I might return. 5 stars.

I was asked what my favorite part of the PPA tournament was at TRC. It was the friendly, welcoming staff that worked for TRC, and the volunteers and the workers hired by the PPA. Sure the pros were impressive (and they were friendly too). Sharing the experience with my pickleball friends was fun. However, being greeted warmly with smiles by the staff and hearing the latest plans for the day added to the anticipation of what to expect for that day. The total experience was outstanding.

I have been a member @ the tucson racquet club for about 15ish years now. I feel like ever since the new management came in theres been a neglect for the weight room in specific. Last night I came into the weight room around 9pmish and unsuprisingly there was a group of probably ten juviniles in that weight room. They were loud screaming shouting hoopering and hollering. I am actually educated in fitness as it is my career, and I know for fact the weight room is not the place to be messing around as you will hurt yourself or even worse hurt someone else. People were leaving the weight room last night it was so bad. As far as I am concerned I'm done with the weight room it just seems like management does not care about the safety of people that use their weight room proven by the fact they do nothing when the youngsters come up stars to just play around and throw weights around and just play. They also have very faulty equipment. I really wish MANAGEMENT would change their attitude about the weight room and kick out the people who are obviously there to not be serious what so ever. I don't want to get hurt. Also theres an elderly lady that works at that front desk that just always be talking so rude to people.

Iβve always loved the Racquet Club. Weβve been members for 25 years. When we decided to throw an epic birthday party for my husband, I called Ravella at the TCC to inquire about catering. She told me they donβt deliver but we can pick up. Ravella worked on the menu with me. She was very professional, knowledgeable and all around a delight to work with. The event went off without a hitch. Everyone loved the food and wanted to know where we got it. The party was a success. Ravella made everything so easy for us. Thanks so much Ravella. I have been a member and tennis player and swimmer for years. I wholeheartedly disagree with the litany of complaints that one of the reviewers had. The facility is always welcoming with lovely staff, things are organized, clean, and if they are not they are addressed immediately, and that includes the pool and the Jacuzzis.the club brightens my day every day and I am so grateful for all the care that is being taken: refurbished tennis courts, scheduling of swimming, which is not perfect but at least innovative. A little work can be done on the quality of restaurant food. The barbecues are fun and social for those who want it. I have nothing but good things to say about TRC. Barb Patterson

Low quality at a high price. That's all you'll get by joining this "fitness center". The weights are older than time itself and the machines are atrocious. Treadmills are often broken and run down with parts falling off of them. The ellipticals have literally had their side panels snap off during use. Super dangerous!
The food is gross and their new plug for protein shakes is a joke. High sugar low protein and a high cost. Anything attempting to be healthy comes out so sad and of the lowest quality. Such as the salmon dish that looks like it's been frozen since the 90s.
The courts for racquetball are terrible and falling apart. Some have massive holes in the walls. The locker room is falling apart and has roaches. In fact, most of the facility has roaches. The sauna is often broken or turned all the way down. The steam room doesn't work properly and is often broken.
The pool and both Jacuzzis typically have too much chlorine. They are often filthy from all the children. The Friday night frozen over priced BBQs don't help with the mess and crowded environment.
The facility claims it's making changes and trying to improve. Unfortunately most things are dirty and falling apart and stay that way for weeks to months. Like the stairs. They keep upping their prices and added a yearly fee. Not to mention they often over charge your account and you need to take it to them personally. Front desk staff dont ever know and the membership office workers aren't their for hours at a time.
This place is a joke and should be torn down to be rebuilt into something realistic. Don't get stuck here and don't waste your money.

Don't go to this place, there's mold in their ice machines, dead rats in the lot, mushrooms growing in the gym and handball courts, and the management is god awful. Especially the general manager, Sandy.
Two other notable managers that are awful are Damien and Rovella. They will trespass you from the property if you bring up their shortcomings as managers or the state of the club (falling apart)
If your kids attend camp here, they will be met with racial insults from the other campers and staff does nothing about this, aside from recommending the kids don't do it.
Bonus if you read this far: they are charging members accounts to revamp and renovate without asking or giving refunds. The only thing this place cares about is money.

Iβve been a member here for many years. And overall I enjoy the club but I have to review the restaurant. To put it simple itβs horrible. Since the ownership turnover the food and drinks have gone from great to horrible. We invited guests last night and we were embarrassed by the food quality. I spoke to the food and beverage manager about my drink, which was horrible, and she gave me a dirty look and blew me off. I spoke to one of the waiters and they replaced my drink. Prices have gone sky high and quality has hit the gutter.
Something needs to change with the food and drink quality.

Although there are a myriad of things to complain about this place; dilapidated buildings, roaches so bold as to charge at you while you pass by, a pool deck that hasn't been even hosed off in what looks like decades, a pool so dirty that they dump chemicals In while swimming (ground crew stating of it burns you might want to get out), the blatant racism by senior members designed to make you feel that minorities are not welcome as you infringe on THEIR space, basic housekeeping thrown to the wind, etc...etc....
The most egregious though, fraud! Receiving bills in the mail during the middle of a month marked as not paid (when paid in advance) and calling to talk to the finance manager, who never bothers to return a call. And in the latest example pulling money out of an account without authorization or having signed up for auto pay.
What a sad state of affairs for a what had the potential to be an oasis in our unique city!

I am constantly astounded at the inability of these people to deal with basic maintenance issues. For example, they can't seem to keep a clock running in the lap pool area. When something major (like the heater in a pool) breaks, it not only takes then FOREVER to fix, but they fail to notify people... you only find out once you get there. The women's showers are nasty and moldy. If this place weren't so convenient, I'd swim elsewhere. They simply don't care.

Itβs a shame that the club cannot be a responsible member of the neighborhood. Traffic to the club has long disregarded traffic laws on Country Club and Allen but now their heavy construction vehicles do the same. This is an area with large numbers of walkers, cyclists and dog walkers. If the club wants to continue in a residential area, they need to treat their neighbors respectfully.

I had the pleasure of spending time at the Tucson Racquet Club recently, and I must say it was a delightful experience overall, deserving of four stars.
The most outstanding aspect of this club is its amazing community and the genuine family atmosphere that envelops the entire place. From the moment you step foot on the premises, you can feel the sense of camaraderie among the members, making it an inviting and inclusive environment for everyone.
The tennis courts and pool area are fantastic for families, providing great fun for both kids and adults. It's heartwarming to see families come together to enjoy some quality time, whether playing tennis or splashing around in the pool.
The only reason I couldn't give it a perfect five-star rating is that some areas, particularly the bar and restaurant, could use a little update. While the facilities are clean and functional, they do feel a bit dated. A renovation or modernization in this aspect would definitely elevate the overall experience.
Despite this, I must commend the club for offering decent food at the bar. It's always a relief to have a tasty meal after a fun-filled day of activities. The menu might benefit from a few additional options, but what they do offer is satisfying.
In conclusion, the Tucson Racquet Club is a fantastic place with a warm family atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for tennis enthusiasts and families alike.

Not only is this my kids favorite Summer Camp, but I am absolutely thrilled for the new Ownership that's going to take over and update the entire facility. This local, iconic landmark is going to come back to life! I love the new General Manager they've hired. We are attending the Friday Night BBQ this evening and I am so excited as I've heard great things about it. A great family venue.

I have been a member off and on since 2005. I currently take 6 classes a week at the facility. The classes are great however the restaurant staff, restaurant management and club management leave much to be desired. I and some of my classmates were treated very poorly by the restaurant staff and upon trying to connect with Sandy, the general manager 3 times (once in person and twice by phone message) to share and discuss the incident, she continues to ignore me. I spend on average of $400 - $600 per month in the club. I also support the club year round. Itβs insulting to be a loyal, year-round member and be ignored by management! My discretionary spending in this facility has come to a halt!

I went to watch Natl handball matches, really enjoyed the.. the corridors were rather narrow so its good that the number of observers was small. Courts were good, bldg seemed older but in good shape. Upstairs restaurant had good variety, food was good, server was friendly. Good for
lunch, salads, etc. Also for quick supper.

Ideal for kids, there are several fenced play areas by the sand volleyball court. Ask for the table tennis to be brought out. Starting generally March there are bands & BBQ's- call for days, times & specific bands. Lovely place to hang out with 3 pools-lap adult only, good size shallow children's pool & large general pool. Huge jacuzzi spa for everyone. Gretchen runs the court programs and is so nice- my son left his newer sweatshirt at tennis camp & she held onto it in her office for a couple months. Great folks working there & nonmembers are welcome (small fee).

Great place wonderful gym outstanding food in the restaurant. Lacking handicap access to the second floor. The shower room has adjustable bath seat and one bigger roller in shower stall. All of the machines are on the second floor. The bottom floor has easy access and lots of classes: yoga silver sneakers ECT very relaxing place. Fun to just sit and watch the people too! Pool needs more careful cleaning. City public pools are cleaner. Too many people use the pool for the inadequate cleaning effort. No one is asked to shower. Often there is an oil slick. Requests to clean fall on deaf ears.
