Terrible Experience at Esporta Fitness – University Location.

I’ve been attending this gym for over four months using a guest pass arrangement with my friend, which was approved at registration. However, during my most recent visit to 304 S University Ave, Little Rock, I encountered the most unprofessional and hostile treatment I’ve ever experienced at a gym.

For the first time ever, a front desk employee rudely demanded that my guest profile include a photo. While my friend complied without issue, the staff member’s tone was aggressive and disrespectful. My friend and I exchanged glances, quietly acknowledging how rude he was, and that’s when things escalated.

As we walked away, he yelled at us to come back, waving his hands in an intimidating manner. While I was simply filling my water bottle, he approached us, threatened to call the police, and claimed, “I’m the manager, I can do whatever I want, and I can kick you out.”

This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable. No paying member or guest pass user should be subjected to this kind of harassment and intimidation. Management needs to take action against employees who behave this way. I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a professional and welcoming workout environment.

As of February 2024 Esporta has increased membership prices over the past year despite a decline in the gym sanitation. See photos of mold in showers. Trash in locker room every sink surface is dirty. This place is trash!! Take your business elsewhere. They increase prices but you will continue to see dirtier conditions!!

Closed during winter storm for the entire week while the roads have been normal for the past several days…. I’m not willing to continue paying for membership to a gym that can’t operate when roads to gym are fine…

Tried to add guest to my standard membership and the guy made a show of not being able to click to add a guest because I had to choose that at the beginning of my membership which I think was a lie and he looked like he was lying when he did it and shaking his leg a lot. All to get me to agree to cancel my whole membership that I just payed the yearly fee for in April and get me to pay a new yearly fee and get a more expensive membership. Scam.

I recommend a personal trainer too to help keep on track.

Good equipment and layout in a filthy building. It’s dirty from the filth on the door to the trash on the ground to the filthy parking lot to the brown stains on the curtains to the filthy bathrooms to the filthy locker rooms. I'm so glad I started coming to this gym! It's so much more than just going to the gym. Having the option to workout in addition to using the basketball court, the racquetball courts, the pool, the hot tub, the sauna... It's like a spa day 😍

I really enjoy my gym. Everyone keeps to themselves. There's eye contact and the occasional nod that happens after eye contact.

The equipment is well-maintained. Every day that I have gone, I have witnessed a staff member cleaning. There are numerous classes that are offered at no extra charge. Even when there is a personal trainer working with a group, they do not take over any part of the gym for a long period of time.

The only thing that would make it better for me is for the hours of operation to be extended. I changed from a 24/7 access gym and I still have to remind myself that I can't go whenever it suits me.

This gym “meets minimal expectations” but not much else. The hours are poor for a facility this size, the staff often opens late or closes early and the clientele is circumspect; I saw the police hand cuff a guy and haul him off the basketball court once. The equipment is good at least. There are better options.

I would like to see the wet areas cleaned more often. The glass from the locker rooms leading out to the pool and hot tub. The hot tub seat benches are gross. The rail where it hits the hot tub is black with dirt. The tiles grout it black. And the corners have mold.
Same in the pool. The tiles be red brushed once per week to keep clean. Just paying attention to details like the backs of the handicap lift chairs being gross. It’s not hard, just takes effort to create a clean esthetic.

I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for twenty years and been to numerous locations throughout the country. The Esporta on University is one of the worst. Multiple machines are in disrepair and I have never seen any cleaning being done as the equipment reflects that. The team members are cordial but never leave the desk area so the place is neglected. They have poorly functioning cardio equipment with the old apple connectors which were discontinued 12 years ago . This location is indicative of LA Fitness’ strategy of sucking revenue from memberships and never maintaining or upgrading the equipment or facility. Unfortunately the North Little Rock location is worse. After 20 years I’m searching for an alternative. Crunch! Please come to Little Rock.

The staff is very attentive and enthusiastically helpful. The facility is impeccably clean. The machines are great, and there's lots of them. I enjoy the classes. The locker rooms are spacious and neat. I had a hard time finding parking close, because handicap parking is abused, so I just have my wife take me; but that's not their fault.

If I could do -5 stars I would but is not an option yet.
I went to workout on Monday to this location and brought a guest with me that already had a VIP pass from me and the rude lady at the entrance did not want to let my guest in, saying that he needed to pay for a daily pass which is $40 for only one day. He even scaned his vip QR code and went through just fine. I pay more for my membership just so I can bring a guest and have access to all clubs action the US. I been a member for over 5 years. Tuesday, I went to use the sauna for 20 minutes and you can clearly see on the gym location and time they close at 10pm. Well I arrived at 9:30 with plenty of time to use the sauna and the rude lazy guy at the entrance just said after i scanned I cant go in passed 9pm and its company policy. Imagine the frustration? Why is this not on your schedule online ? Why does your personal have to be so rude when talking to customers? They literally treat you like they don’t care or want to help you. Im going to be canceling my membership because this is unacceptable, I been to over 30 different locations and never had this issue. I hope higher management gets rid of these unexperienced customer service guys. This kind of service is unacceptable for the price you pay here. Very disappointing…..

Average gym, but this location locks people out a full hour before closing- something that is not disclosed on the memership form or contract. No other Little Rock location does this. It is deeply annoying to not be able to work out. Members have to vacate by closing time regardless of when they come in, so this policy may FEEL effective, but there is no logical basis for it.

Weather closings here are RIDICULOUS. Snow on Monday, Tuesday still rough. Wednesday everything surrounding this gym opened, the mall next door opened. EVERYTHING! Yet this location stayed closed until Sunday! Honestly, it’s a joke. A JOKE that this place stayed closed 4 more days after ALL the surrounding businesses opened on Wednesday. My rating is for the pool only. I was on a business trip and looking for a gym near my hotel but also my work.

I appreciated that the nighttime associate who answered the phone was very helpful in answering my questions to the best of his ability.

The facility itself looked rather large. I only stayed downstairs, used the locker room, showers, and lap pool.

The pool was smaller than I would have liked but it was clean and uncrowded. The temperature was far too warm for a traditional lap pool, but I assume their clientele is typically older.

Locker room and lockers were big. The showers too. I do wish there were towels (especially since I was not local). Also there was no swimsuit water extractor. Both a huge bummer because it was free freezing when I visited and I had to keep my wet suit in my car during my work day.

I didn’t get to try out the sauna but I was glad to see a gender specific one in the locker room.

I love the new crew here at ESPORTA off university ! For months i had been holding off on going to the gym . I finally received a call from them welcoming me to come in . At first I was nervous because I wasn’t sure what machines were best for me or how they worked , but when I tell you the trainer introduced himself and we got straight to it , this man had me doing football workouts on the very 1st day along with workout and meal plan ideas 10/10 would definitely recommend if your serious about being in shape .

Customer service is absolutely terrible. I have been a member for a year to the LA Fitness locations, personally friends with a manager. I have now been to two different Esporta locations in Little Rock and NEITHER one had me use a guest bar code to get in, the front desk would do it for us. Until this very time I had the rudest friend desk woman give attitude the whole time about setting up the guest pass on my App and even WALKING OUT after an hour of working out she was saying comments while we were walking out, loud and having my husband and I hear it purposely. I will be contacting the general manager to file a complaint on how unprofessional this employee is.

We just joined 2 weeks ago and I love it. The weekdays are a bit crowded but everyone is respectful to each other’s space. There is plenty of equipment and a variety of classes and we love our after work out sauna time. Latasha is hands down absolutely amazing and the weekend managers are also sweet and welcoming. I really like how they actually get to know us and our kids. Usually I feel awkward going to the gym but at this location it’s really outgoing and fun.

I’d give this place 0 stars if possible. It’s a scam! My boyfriend and I went here for a few months then cancelled the membership only to find his debit card was still being charged. We called corporate today and as it turns out, Esporta Fitness created 2 accounts and did not tell my boyfriend! They found an old address of my boyfriends (one that was never mentioned) and used it under the second account as well as his debit card. While his main account had his credit card as intended. Not to mention, we called several times and they always say the manager is not available to cancel the membership or they’d say his membership was already cancelled when clearly it was not. This place is sketchy and I advise no one to get a membership here.

Rude rude rude! I called because I wanted to cancel my membership due to me living two cities over. The manager who answered was beyond rude in the 2 mins or less we were on the phone. When I asked for her name she hung up and every time I called back she hung up in my face. I work in the customer field and I have never hung up in someone’s face. Being polite isn’t hard. In the past I’ve had a bad experience with the employees being rude, I thought things have changed but clearly not. 0/10 I don’t recommend. Then you can ONLY cancel your membership by going into the facility and when you get there the only manager who can cancel the membership is gone for the day. The setup is just ridiculous. Management is by far the worse. Very unprofessional! I don’t not recommend Esporta in the Little Rock area.

Went there and they are not upfront about their prices. They will tell you to join for a nickel ( The gentlemen at the front desk) Then make eye contact with the other guy in back to close the sale. Anyways, they act super sketchy and are very pushy with guest. Very unprofessional way of trying to get sales.

When you ask them questions about payment they try to avoid answering, anyways they would not mention the annual fee and when asked they were hesitant to respond. I signed up anyways and canceled a month later they said I had to call corporate to cancel, then send them a letter. I had to stop transactions through my bank account because they would not cancel my membership.

Also if you cancel your membership, "out of courtesy" they will freeze it and charge you $10 a month with out you knowing.

I have never held a membership with this fitness center however my account was being charged for 3 months including a $53 charge for a yearly membershi fee that I never signed up for. So here's the story. One day my 16-year-old and his friend went to this establishment to play basketball. They were under the impression that it would be $5, he paid with my card. However, after seeing the $30 charges taken from my account multiple times, I decided to question my son. He had no idea that he had been cohersed into signing up for a gym membership. At the age of 16 they had him sign a contract and they continuously debited my account. I went to the establishment to speak with someone and to cancel the contract that my 16-year-old should have never been allowed to sign without an adult and they made me pay another $30 to cancel the membership. When I asked why would they go into contract with a 16 year old and did he show ID which I know he didn't because he didn't have an ID. The lady at the front desk told me well did he show us id? I asked her did you ask for his ID? Blank stare. And who authorized you to debit my account? Blank stare.

Came to town for training, we informed the staff that we were only temporarily visiting and would like a month to month plan. The staff member acknowledged they offer a month to month plan and took me to the desk to sign up. After leaving the area early from training, we were told by the manager we have to pay a cancelation fee. I don't understand how if we signed up month to month. Liars and thieves.

The place is huge and the quality of the machines are good but so are many other workout facilities. It's also great that they have a spa and swimming pool. When I was member I swam most of the time for cardio. However when Ten fitness open up 24 hours a day I had to go to them. They have 24 hour facilities in Bryant and West Little Rock. You don't ever have to feel rushed to get there before they close. THAT'S HUGE FOR ME. Although, I wish they had a swim pool, their facilities are nice. So, is the movie room and the massage chairs to loosen up those muscles before you leave. The other day I had some work to do after I got off work and was able to go workout at 11:00 for a couple of hours. Being open 24 hours is huge for me and that's the reason I went to Ten Fitness. Although, I truly miss the swim pool at Esporta it doesn't out weight being open 24 hours. I would possibly come back to them if they did.

I like the layout of this gym and all the windows. I wish the free weight area was bigger and more spread out. The parking situation is sketchy. If the front parking is taken up, you either park to the side, far away from the front door, or behind the building in a parking garage. I’m always nervous about getting snatched up or attacked, but maybe I listen to too many true crime podcasts.

Contactless check-in surprised me, in a good way. Caught me off guard when i was addressed by name as i walked in, had to laugh after discovering how. Superb method of check-in. Gym was clean and well staffed. Distancing in place and all equipment in working order aside from those used for spacing.

Sales staff are deceiving customers! Be very aware when signing up your membership/Personal Session Plan!

Up on our verbal agreement about the fee and the number of sessions, the salesman did not make the contract as it it. I trusted them to do the right thing, so i did not read the contract before signing in. Only until later when i have more time to read it, they cut 2 sessions off my total plan!
People said always read the fine print before signning it. I know it and i even think who else does not? But here i am one of the person who fell into the same trap! So please don’t be fooled by how nice the sales staff are, read your fine print carefully!

I like the gym. Most of the workers are nice. I avoid the fitness assessments at all gyms and tried to avoid that here as well. lol. My only problem is they hours of operation are terrible. 8 Pm on weekends? I have to supplement by 55 dollar membership with my apartment’s complementary gym in order to get my daily workouts. Not to mention, the employees start cleaning at 8 pm and appear to make overhead announcements about closing time around then as well ( I can’t say for certain bc I have on my headphones) so you feel a little bad for working out but I have to get my fitness in. I just smile and keep using my Machines.

Charge you an arm and a leg for gym services, are not 24hr so convenience is out of the window, after you sign up they give you a complimentary session with a personal trainer who tells you what to do while they play on their phones, then they take you back to their desk and try to get you to fork over more cash than the membership costs just to work with a trainer once a week and get a workout journal which is just a notebook with a calendar in it. The smallest package deal starts at $130 plus membership fees monthly.

I only got a membership because me and 10 of my friends wanted to play in a inside gym. So we couldn’t because it would be like $17 per person (which is outrageously expensive) Long story short the manager recommended me one of us get a membership and we decided it would be me. In total we came out of $134 for initiation fee. After that is would be $50 every mouth (1 guest pass included). So I’m assuming with this initiation fee it comes with a Fitness specialist program. Where a fitness specialist will sit me down and discuss a game-plan on how to lose weight. Everything was fine until this. Anthony texted me and wanted me to come in so we can talk. And we did and he made me do a work out session that was very intense so intense I felt like Anthony would have been a little less tired than me if he was doing the work out with me. After I did my work out session he told me he would give me a call back to schedule another time to meet with him. He didn’t and lied. Then I texted him “how in shape am I?(in his opinion)” He never replied back nor called me ever again. I don’t like this LA fitness because they only want you money they don’t care about your well being. And it shows in the Lead Fitness Specialist Anthony he’s a liar and all he cares about is sells and money. I shouldn’t even have paid for a fitness coach like Anthony. He’s horrible. And P.S. the whole cancelation process with LA fitness is tedious and extra. Like it should be this hard to cancel a membership. They acting like we’re signing a contract to the military (LA fitness it’s not that deep!!!!!!)

This is the most terrible service. I open the account by Anthony. He want me to John in with a deal is $24.99 for two people. And i need 2 guest so my bill is $49.99. So i have to pay about $300 for first month then i saw they take another $157, i come to talk to them. Then they said something wrong with their computer. Then I transferred my acount to my mom. He said he will do it for only me( that so nice) but after that i find out i can't come by a guest. So i come to talk to him. He said is something went wrong, cause of his mistakes so he give me 2 vip guest for fee( that sound funny i pay $20 for 2 guest) then 2 months after that they charge me annual fee without said anything, for $54 times so i stop by and asked why. They said they charge every one like that. Anyway i asked him why they don't let me in by a guest last 2 time. Now he said he don't remember what he did cause to many people. So he sign for me 30 day fee training. So it make me so mad i pay $20 extra for 2 guest now i can only go in for 30 fee day. So why i have to pay $ 20 every for guest like this. So if u wanna john them make sure record what u talk with them

My home gym.... outside of 4 - 5 O'Clock, it's pretty peaceful, there is a great sauna, showers, basketball court, and a pool (for those that haven't checked it out)... they've changed to monthly payments instead if contracts, so that allows you to break away clean if you're going to be a bum 😁

I pay $40 a month, but I use the facilities, and I'm there at least 4 to 5 days a week, so it's worth it to me. I love to have a place I can go work out that isn't too crowded, and people aren't just taking up space on the equipment talking. A strong recommend for anybody serious about getting in shape.
