The website is currently down so I'm unable to get current hours. I called the Compton club for recorded hours. The recording is saying the club is open 24 hours. Not true, so change your voice mail to notify patrons of the correct hours when you're standing around shouting the breeze. Or change the name to read 12 Hour Fitness. I would like to visit early Sunday morning "what time do I arrive "?. Last month the Jacuzzi tub was not working for the entire month. We all know well if the Jacuzzi fail to malfunction in Cerritos or Newport Beach maintenance will fly to China to purchase the part to keep the members satified. And No this place is not clean as the Manger states. Then again everyone's level of cleanliness is questionable. Bereft

24 Hour Fitness in Compton has completely fallen apart since the new manager took over. Management is lazy, careless, and clearly doesn’t care about the members or the facility.

Lockers have had the same locks on them since February and I told them multiple times (picture below)—despite signs saying they’re cleared overnight. Total lie. Dozens of lockers are permanently blocked by people storing their stuff like it’s a storage unit.

The pool? Disgusting. It used to be clean daily before COVID. Now you’d be lucky if they wash it once a month. For a $35+/month membership, that’s a massive sanitation risk.

Staff don’t change TVs during major games, no cleaning staff!!!!!, the locker rooms and bathrooms are filthy, floors stay soaked and slippery, and the overall vibe is neglect. The entire team clearly reflects the same low-effort attitude of the manager.

This place is a joke. Go anywhere else if you can.

PS. You can easily tell most of the recent 5 star reviews are fake and I have reported them as such.

I've been to the one in Downey and Cerritos and Lakewood and I hate them all. I hate the machines in Downey. I hate that Cerritos is kicking you out prior 10pm. Compton might be in the ghetto but the customer service is absolutely amazing. I love the guys and girls here. Always happy. Always welcoming. Always helpful. Wish they had security, had newer equipment, and they went back to 24 hrs. No matter what I'll always come back here. We have a little community here!

I come here because it's the closest gym, I used to come since early high school and when I say it's down hill that's an understatement. All the equipment is from the same year I started more than 10 years ago.
The front desk stands there and does absolutely nothing to clean up the gym or rerack weights when the dumb members leave them out.
Now they're even closed from 10pm to 5am which is ridiculous because the price is the same even though they're taking away 7hours from the supposed 24hr.
Don't become a member here I'd love to switch but other gyms are just not close enough.
Also to add almost any time of day beside sat/sun nights good luck finding a machine with the broccoli heads always taking up bench press and rows.

First of all my car was stolen at this location about a year and a half ago, and to make matters worse, the assistant manager at the time was extremely unhelpful during a very delicate situation. I was in a moment of distress, and instead of offering any support, the manager was dismissive and made me feel even more uncomfortable. This is the kind of service that makes you question whether it’s worth staying at a gym for over 10 years.

Beyond that, the gym really needs new equipment. Most of the treadmills have broken inclines, which is a recurring issue that hasn’t been addressed. I do want to acknowledge, however, that management does the best they can with the limited resources they have.

Since 24 Hour Fitness no longer operates 24 hours, which is what I’ve been paying for, I find myself wishing there was another gym nearby that fits my routine so I could cancel my membership.

The steam room is another issue. People keep placing paper towels on the sensors, causing it to become dangerously hot. If this isn’t addressed soon, they may face a lawsuit. While they do enforce the “no shoes in the spa” rule, it would be great if they focused equally on maintaining safety, especially for older members.

Another major safety hazard is the slippery floors. Ever since they brought in new janitors, they’ve been using way too much soap in the floor cleaning mixture, making it dangerous to work out—especially for cardio. It’s an accident waiting to happen, and it needs to be fixed.

Lastly, on March 19, 2025, something happened that completely crossed the line. I know the manager meant well, but he entered my shower while I was completely naked to sweep up—totally unnecessary and inappropriate. Then he came back again to mess with my broken soap dispenser and told me to just use another shower. Gym staff should respect members’ privacy and wait until people are done. No one should have to deal with that while trying to shower. It made me feel uncomfortable and was completely out of line.

This is the 2nd time I’ve had an injury at this location in less than a year machines are always broken and 2 of the stair master machines where clearly broken but one was not taped off or marked down as broken and as soon as I stepped onto the machine I almost lost my life trying to stop myself from falling. All the machines are dirty the facility doesn’t get any type of cleaning done showers filthy hair in the drains seems like they don’t have a maintenance crew at all. To pay for a monthly gym membership and they don’t keep up with the gym is disappointing when you can’t see where your money is being spent specially now since they are no longer 24 hours . Nothing is bad about the gym but I feel pooped. This gym is the most crowded, most broken equipment and most outdated equipment in one spot. You'll often find one person draping a towel on multiple pieces of equipment machines at once. The staff is nice and it's clean but it's a shame they don't put more money into the busiest gym in the south bay.

I have voiced numerous times about a gym member playing music on his speaker real loud and with In a inappropriate words for a family gym only to see the same person back doing the exact same thing. I met with a manager a few months ago and handed him a written complaint. He assured me that this would not happen again and did acknowledge to me that he had received concerns about this from another guest. Well today this guy is back doing the same thing with bad language in the songs

I’m not sure where to begin, I’ve been member for over 20years and I use to pride myself on being a member. But here lately within the last 5 years post Covid, the quality has gone down drastically!! I come to this particular gym because it use to be well kept but I’m not sure what happened it’s dismal. Today arrived just to enjoy the steam room and it’s not working, there’s no sign at least explaining the inconvenience just not working. It’s become a crap shoot when choosing to workout here you never know what to expect. The last time I was here the cleaning lady had everyone exit the steam room because she needed to clean it. I asked her why don’t the do that prior to opening and she replied the manager won’t allow them to start till 5 am. I just started going to the gym, I have less than a week going, so I don’t know all the rules.
Many people are intimated to go to the gym, and it doesn’t help when employees are rude and unfriendly. I was in the sauna and didn’t know shoes were not allowed. A male employee (I believe a personal trainer) opened the door and said no shoes are allowed and would not close the door at all. I had 2 minutes left before I finished my goal. I told him I didn’t know, now I know and next time I will bring sandals, he didn’t care, he kept the door wide open staring dead at me until I left, many ppl were in the sauna and it was very uncomfortable and rude.

Overall I enjoy the convenience of how close this gym is , however all of the cons are incredible large.
The gym is incredibly inconsistent in repairing machines, one of the leg curl machines has been broken for quite some time and there being only two in the whole gym causes the one to become incredibly busy. The men's bathroom is quite honestly disgusting, as there's no policy around changing and there's a heavy musk smell Everytime I go, I've been to other 24 hour fitness and never experienced that. Lastly the staff is just so unwelcoming, as they barely tell you goodbye and just create a even worse atmosphere. Just overall a gym that needs a lot of improvements.

Specifically, this review is based on managements lack of action/failure to address verbal or written complaints regarding filth and broken equipment. Based on my visits to other locations, it appears that the CEO of 24 Hr Fitness, Karl Sanft, doesn’t invest or care about the fitness centers that are located in, what some folk may refer to as, economically disadvantaged areas even though the average house in Compton is approx 400k+.

Over a year ago, I shared with the front desk that the cycling bikes need repairs. On May 1, 2024, there was only 1 bike available during a cycling class, and the strap was missing as with several other bikes. After a few mins into the class, I ended my cycling class early due to pain in my foot caused by the missing support strap. I spoke with manager, Moses Ruiz, and he shared that the cycling bikes are deemed safe and that is why no action has been taken to repair the bikes. I asked “no straps” that is considered “safe”? Based on Ruiz’ body language, it was apparent that he wanted me to leave him alone. I asked if there was a regional manager I could converse with and Ruiz stated that my concern falls under facilities and there is no regional manager for that area. In the real world everyone, especially facilities, would report to entry or middle-level management at minimum.

Subsequent to my interaction with Ruiz, I stopped by the Compton location weekly to see if the safety straps were added, and as of June 4, 2024, over a month later, there has been no change to the cycling bikes, other broken equipment remains broken, the facility is yet filthy, the women’s bathroom smells, and the list goes on. At the Carson location, you actually see staff cleaning. I have never seen the cleaning crew in action at the Compton location.

After reviewing other negative customer reviews that are similar, the lack of action to address issues sends a consistent message to me as a customer, “management or corporate doesn’t care”. As a result, I’ve moved on which is sad because the instructors at this location are excellent but they are not supported by their management team.

I still keep getting charged even after the manager on site canceled my account and no refund was issued even though I still went the same day it was charged. Not to mention that same manager was the one that told me to come back in may that it wouldnt charge automatically and it sure did. The gym in Compton is clean and friendly. There are plenty of treadmills, stair climbers, and bikes but needs more weight benches and dumbbells.

First of all it’s sad having to go to another 24 when the Compton location is closer to me. I’ve talked to the manager about the steam room not working and like always the answer is “we’re going to send someone to fix it”. I stopped going there and prefer driving to the Downey or Lakewood location were most of their equipment/machines actually work. I decided to come to the Compton location to give it another try. I went Friday, Sept 9th and asked the manager if the steam room was working and he basically ignored me and one of the workers answered yes but that the sauna was not working. Also, I understand it was hot and humid outside but the AC should still be working. I asked an employee about the AC and he said it was on, however, I checked later and it wasn’t even working. Yea The doors were wide open (this shows it wasn’t working at all). They should have professional staff members and a better manager. The staff from Downey and Lakewood actually greet you and have their equipments working. The reason I give this 2 stars is because of the handsome men that go to the Compton location lol

Of the many locations that I frequent within the South Bay area, this one's great for machines for upper body exercises, and cardio. Sometimes the track slips on some of the treadmills there but are usually fixed quickly. Members tend to use the Tyre for other than its intended purposes (ie like a bench)

They should check the cameras and see what the female staff does with the clients, how unprofessional are the girls who flirt with men.

I went there about two weeks ago and I was asking myself why I stopped going there and the minute I walked in I can already smell the foul odor in the gym. The lockers have wear and tear. Bathroom has mold and poor cleaning. So much dust up on the second floor . Did my run on the treadmill and left. Never again.

Worst experience ever the manager of this location is a liar and they just give you good deals but when u less expect it they would remove extra money from your account and they don’t even have a customer service line for problems like this to be reported !

This gym gotta get their act together. Who is the general manager? I think I got an idea who it is and he isnt doing anything about its staff. The front desk all for the most part disrespectful, no one at the desk for help most of the time... when you come in right away you can tell they hate you for coming they look miserable and there for a check. There is one she is cool... the ONLY one I see working. They rather socialize amongst each other and be antisocial to customers. Corporate needs to retrain the general manager because it trinkles down to the staff members. There needs to be some etiquette in respect to members, thats what front desk is for right? Unacceptable...

I was under the impression that 24hr fitness was held to a certain standard and its employees were to reflect such standard. My visit at the Compton California facility brings up concern about club cleanliness and the lack of staff involvement in club happenings since it's reopening. The bathroom/shower area at the Compton club is never clean with an abundance of mold, the pool usually has debris but today there was foamy suds on the surface of the water. I didn't want to stay in the water worried about what kind of nastiness had taken over the pool. The bathing suit spinner NEVER works. There were club members in the pool area with a portable radio playing Spanish music so loud that in order to speak to someone I had to practically yell. No staff came through to check the bathroom or pool area until I was leaving and the Spanish music was still going. It's like the staff don't care about nothing.
In other clubs that I've visited the staff was always present, the bathrooms are better attended to and most of the pools are fairly clean depending on the city. Compton however is by far the worst.

This was the most disgusting and dirty facility I have ever been too . Out of quite a few 24hr fitness centers this had to have been the worst. Mold in the showers and restrooms were filthy. Never gonna use this one again.
