I don't know who or why someone would run a gym like this. The place is just filthy,people leave their gum in the water fountains,people dont clean up after themselves,,bathrooms are dirty and smell like a fishmarket.
Workout machines aren't sanitized and when they go out of service due to malfunction it takes forever for someone to come down and repair it.

The service at the front desk was excellent! Julian went above and beyond to make sure everything was smooth and easy. He was professional, friendly, and really made me feel welcome. You can tell he genuinely cares about helping people definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had with front-desk service. He went even more above and beyond when I’ve see him workout before and asked him for a few tips, he helped me with using the proper equipment and form.

One thing I would like to point out beyond the customer service was something I saw that kind of disgusted me today. A person on a leg extension took off their shoes and started to wipe their feet on the machine and use the machine bare foot and put their foot directly on the machine. That disgusted me and I think their should be more maintenance to keep an eye out for that and make sure people don’t do that or at least wipe down the machine if their going to do that. That is my only problem.

Although service was 10/10. That’s why I give this such a high rating. I wish every store or business I walk into, I see this 10/10 service. Julian was on top of it, made sure we didn’t need anything and were welcome.

This review is strictly about cleanliness. I’ve been to many 24 Hour Fitness gyms from Chula Vista to Carlsbad, and unfortunately this location falls short. For a “Super Sport” gym, I expected higher standards. I rarely see staff cleaning the floors or wiping down equipment, which makes a big difference in the overall gym experience.
What’s surprising is that the smaller Mission Valley Active location consistently has staff in the locker room and on the floor keeping things tidy. If this gym could bring that same level of attention to cleanliness, it would make a huge improvement. I really hope management considers stepping up the cleaning routines, because the facility itself has great equipment.

Keep seeing how they defer everyone to "other locations" that are open 24 hrs in every response. Smh. Do something about it and hire more staff or talk to your franchise and figure something out!

Their equipment is so outdated!!!!!! Crunch is almost making me contemplate moving over.... 24 NEEDS better machines!

They NEVER clean their mats or the equipment (i go during the day & night, having yet witness any staff disinfecting anything in this place).

Already heard 2xs of ppl breaking into lockers and stealing everything, so now I carry my stuff with me which is a pain and gross.

Fyi don't go in the middle of the week after 3p if you use free weights (unless you're a heavy hitter and use 100+). No one puts their weights back and you have to go hunting for what you need. --Note to staff ~ you really need to put "Put back your weights" signs all over the place. Too many wannabes who leave their station with what they use!!
The only reason they got an extra star is because their set-up actually flows, and isn't like the one on Navajo - worst set-up I've EVER seen in ANY gym.

*Update - they have been working on keeping the bathrooms cleaner.

They USED TO have a QR code that helps them to know if there is an issue going on - now it's gone. Short lived great idea

I haven’t had any bad experiences over here however they need to pay more attention to their water fountains. It’s been a couple of times that I’ve had water from the water fountain next to the Zumba class and it tastes like rotten peanuts and I’ve never had a rotten peanut. At first I thought it was my water bottle but every time I have water from that water fountain it tastes bad. Not sure if they change the water filter regularly. That one and the one next to the leg press have mold in there, I just request more attention provided by management.

Dishonest Sales Tactics – Very Disappointed

I had a terrible experience at 24 Hour Fitness. When I signed up for a membership, the salesperson clearly told me that I could bring my kids and leave them at the gym while I worked out — no problem. That was a big reason I signed up.

But today, when I brought my kids and left them there, they immediately called me and told me I’m not allowed to leave them without staying. That’s the complete opposite of what I was told. So they either lied to make the sale, or the staff is completely untrained and inconsistent.

This is dishonest and unprofessional. I do not recommend 24 Hour Fitness to anyone, especially if you’re a parent looking for flexibility. I feel tricked and disrespected. Be very careful before you sign anything — get it in writing, because what they say means nothing

The El Cajon 24 hour has been in so much better shape ever since the new manager Mike Parent has taken over this gym. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the cleanliness within the gym and the equipment is placed where it needs to be. And the Zumba class on Tuesday night is the Best!! Lucia is by far one of the best instructors with her high energy and welcoming of all levels of Zumba students!! I greatly enjoyed taking her class and know I will get the workout that I want to push me.

This 24 Hour Fitness location is one of the best around. The staff is always friendly and professional, and the General Manager does a great job keeping everything running smoothly. This gym has become a jungle gym for children! I shouldn’t have to pay this amount of money to come to a gym that has 12 year olds messing around on the equipment. You have kids throwing pool weights in the pool. Broken treadmills for weeks on end. The bathrooms are disgusting. If you ever go to this location, do yourself a favor and avoid Mackenzie at the front desk. Easily one of the most rude and unprofessional employees I’ve ever dealt with. I called with a simple question about freezing my membership, and not only did she sound like she had no clue what she was talking about (kept saying “I think” to every question)

When I asked to speak to someone else, she said the manager was going to be busy for a long time and then straight up hung up on me. No joke.

I came in person to speak to someone, and the first thing she says when she sees me is, “Is that you that I hung up on?” with ZERO shame or remorse. Like it was funny to her. Completely unacceptable behavior. Thankfully another associate helped me out and explained everything properly and accurately, turns out Mackenzie had all the info wrong anyway.

She’s not just untrained, she has a bad attitude and zero business being at the front of a gym where people go to get help. Management seriously needs to step in and do something because this was embarrassing for the brand. If this is how she speaks to customers when she knows she’s being recorded, I can’t imagine how she acts when no one’s watching. Her attitude isn’t just bad—it’s a liability. Keeping someone like this at the front desk is a risk to the company’s reputation.

I’ve hired personal trainers before, both at 24-Hour Fitness and through personal studios, and meeting with Juan has helped quicker than any other trainer. He has so many certifications in everything to do with the body and nutrition, that he spotted in an instant, just from watching me walk, what I needed to “be well.”
I had a solo adventure-travel trip to New Zealand planned, including heli-hiking on a glacier, with crampons and ropes! That’s what I needed to get stronger for. Plus hikes on the Great Walks.
After just 5 sessions (and mimicking his workouts on my own, one other day per week), I’m already able to jog up my stairs, now, and feeling stronger, thanks to Juan. And I’m in my 50s, overweight, and a little out of shape (though I play 4 hours of pickleball each week, too, so I’m not sedentary). Yeah, I’ve got sore muscles, but hey, stretch it out and take some advil. He’ll even show you HOW to stretch. No excuses! Give Juan one chance to make an amazing first impression, and I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

The two hand-blow-dryers in the Mens room have been broken/inoperative for going on 3 weeks now. They do not supply hand towels or similar to dry your hands with, so guess what? Lots of men using the restroom come out and just skip washing their hands, go straight to the machines to continue their workout. GROSS! I would consider that a health hazard.

Note 3 weeks later still not fixed. Still no towels.

The cleanliness at this establishment is a little better than 3633 Avocado Blvd, La Mesa.
The bathrooms are huge, which is nice. The showers are large and have a place to put your clothes or shampoo, and you have something to hang your towel while you shower. Also, it has a hair dryer.
The only thing that is not positive is that this is out of the 24 gyms I have been to THERE IS NO SANITIZER FOR THE MACHINES. Sometimes, the sanitizer bottles are empty.
The CLEANLINESS in these gyms is a big problem, and it is annoying since the membership is not cheap.

Couldn't even get in the door. I got a 3-Day pass online the night before, no problem whatsoever, no warning or fine print. Chick at the door said they "don't accept these during promotional periods," which she said was November to March. Big waste of time. She offered me a day pass for $30, which is a whole month of Chuze, and then tried to offer me a "deal" on a membership. I get it, she's only doing her job. Not mad at her, I guess. But it feels like a scam, for lack of better words, to get people in the door. Back to Chuze I go. Two stars bc from what I could see, looked like decent equipment and they definitely have more amenities than other places, but it would be cool if you didn't offer something you won't honor. It's pretty messed up.

Always filty and dirty, very immature staff , couldn’t figure out how to cancel my membership online so I called in and nicely asked if he could cancel it over the phone. He then said I have to come in or do it myself online and I said no problem can you walk me through the online cancellation process since I’m having trouble and he said “no I don’t have time for that” and I said what do you mean you don’t have time I can wait and he said “miss I’m on the other line with customers” and I said no problem I can hold and he goes “that’s ridiculous” and I go why is it ridiculous I can wait until you’re done so that you can help me and walk me through this because I’m having trouble i cant get logged in? Then he just then hangs up on me. So that’s why I’m here Leaving a bad review. Im not someone to leave reviews even in worst case situations by the way a year ago my car was stolen from this gym parking lot when a homeless woman came in and stole my purse from the bench locker room as I was changing with it on the bench behind me, this is a very dangerous gym! I still never left a bad review even after that but the rudeness of this boy I wish I knew his name but he sounds very young.

This gym used to be managed well. I honestly don’t understand how this company allows this gym to be neglected this bad. It is filthy filthy filthy. No one cares about making the members feel safe with unclean bathrooms, broken drinking water fountains. The management should be replaced as all they have is attitude. Some of the workers are nice. But they are not running the gym. There is high chance the new gym, called « The Gym, « in the mall will benefit from the unsatisfied 24 members. Sad sad, for a once nice gym that really has everything, except respect for their members. And please don’t answer « we strive to be better » you don’t care, as every week is the same for years now, only getting worse.

Filthy. Counted at minimum 10 broken machines. Nothing has been fixed since I've been here. Never see staff cleaning and I went through a bunch of other reviews and whoever from the gym responds to them says the same bs but nothing seems to have changed over months. I'll be canceling my membership.

The lack of cleanliness is crazy. Bathroom stalls are disgusting, gym floor is so dusty, water fountain looks like it hasn’t ever been cleaned… equipment remains broken for months on end… free weights are never in the rights spots. Granted the weights is also the customers but not once have I seen an employee putting them back where they belong. 3-4 employees just hang out at the front desk pretty much all day and you see no employees on the floor cleaning and organizing. Gym has potential… employees just don’t take any pride in their work.

My husband and I have been members for many years! We were ecstatic when the new location opened on Main Street El Cajon. The new site was very nice and we enjoyed working out there. Unfortunately…. It was been going down hill! There is no maintenance being done. Equipment breaks down and sometimes takes weeks before it is repaired. The vinyl on the equipment is cracking and tearing. It’s filthy around and under the equipment which drives my allergies crazy!! Plus… the equipment is very dirty! I wish management/ownership would take better care of the facility and equipment!

I used to use this facility 5 years ago. It was very clean, lots of staff were around and cleaning. I recently went and it was very disgusting. When I stepped into the bathroom it smelled like someone hadn’t cleaned it in weeks. It was very nasty, when I asked the staff abut it they said that they are under staffed and are looking for help. Very poor response from a worker, used to be some of the best but now it is some of the worst gyms in El Cajon, really don’t recommend coming here

El cajon location has plenty of parking. Greeted upon / exciting. Jacuzzi is hot. Jets are strong. Pool has 3 lanes. Always busy. Sauna an Steam room clean. Lots of tvs.

As of recently, my electric scooter has been stolen. However, before this incident, I have asked repeatedly to the staff if I could bring it inside due to my fear of it getting stolen, but that occurred today. The workers seem to not care about your well being and personal belongings. I also witnessed a skateboard on the floor with a broken lock but it was left due to the chain being around the wheel. There are no cameras outside where you store or put your skateboards, bikes, etc. There is also a homeless encampment outside, right over the wall, which is outside of the parking lot. Simply unbelievable that a store of this size does not have proper surveillance in its vicinity. This is absolutely outrageous. Please keep watch on the bike rack, I have known two people who have had this happen to.

Got the 3 day pass when I walked in the girl in the front desk didn’t not acknowledge me or even turn to see if I needed any help she continue to talk to her friend the gym is dirty no paper towel or spray for the machines everyone in the gym I guess use two machines they reserve one by putting there belongs once done with one set they go use the other machine most of the people just hanging around I got on the leg press machine as soon as I got on it this guy came stand in front of me rushing me off doing faces and hand gestures to hurry up did not have a good experience zero stars if I could

I have a 24 membership and this is the closest of their gyms to my home, but I often go to other locations because of their tolerance of members and guests ignoring rules.
Last night I went there for the pool and saw many of the usual rules being broken. Males wearing their boxer briefs instead of swimsuits, street shoes being worn on the pool tiles and into the sauna, and offensive music played from a personal speaker at high volume in the showers.

This location is also often plagued by the usual gym sins of people camping equipment with their towels or bags, bringing their bags out into the workout areas, perversion, unhygienic use of equipment, playing personal music outside of headphones and wearing clothing that is harmful to equipment, too immodest or unhygienic.

We as a society need to hold ourselves to higher standards. This gym as a location and as a company needs to have bite behind their bark and enforce their rules by tearing up memberships banning offending individuals.

I have been a member for only a few months and have been trying the different locations in east county. El Cajon is by far the best 24 hour location that I have visited so far! An employee named Olivia was making the rounds, filling the sanitizer bottles and paper towels, picking up discarded water bottles, putting away the left out weights, and saying hi to the patrons present.tAll fitness equipment was functional, not even one “out of order” sign (Navajo- every other machine is broken). College grove is the filthiest gym with no regard for cleanliness z there are always dust bunnies, crumpled up paper towels, discarded water/drink bottles. I would gladly drive a few extra miles to have a non-frustration experience at the El Cajon 24-hour fitness location.

horrible service here even the manager Joey he said that he would help with registration for the club and that he would send an email but he did not and when I attempted to call and ask about it numerous times I was made to wait online and told that he was caught” in a meeting”. the manager of a business makes empty promises and does not follow through with what he says. It was my first time coming in and I wanted to try the sauna and ( NINA) was incredibly rude & disrespectful. She came into the sauna and pointed at me and screamed “ YOU come here, you can’t be in here get out” and proceeded to not give me an explanation until I got up and exited humiliated & confused and then processed to say I needed a towel. ( even though there was men in there without a towel) She made the nastiest face and walked away. There is definitely a much better way to go about things. I did not bring my glasses & didn’t realize it said so on the door, but that employee did not have to be so nasty when she could’ve been more decent about it. The nice girl in the front desk with pretty nails ( didn’t catch her name) on the other hand was very friendly and helpful!.. 2 stars just because of her

It's 8 a.m. on a Saturday, and the dumbbells in the weight rack are already in disarray. This has more to do with the people who work out here than with management, but it's a sign of the overall culture here. At midday, the paper towels and sanitizer sprays are often empty. I'm looking at the floor right now, and it looks as if it hasn't been mopped in over a week. It's unfortunate that this is the closest 24 to my house, so I'm forced to come here, but I'll reconsider once my year membership is up.

The management here is pretty ridiculous. Seems like someone needs some pointers on how a business is supposed to be ran. I pay a monthly fee of $45.99 a month. Customers priority seems to not be cared for. This gym is classified as a super sport gym meaning it has all amenities. Well, the basketball courts are reserved and rented to a basketball league Monday-Friday from 5-9pm (most popular hours), and Saturday from 9-11am (also the most popular hours). Also, the steam room is always closed. Napkins are never in their dispensers during prime hours. Let alone, this location closes at 10pm weekday and 8pm weekends. 24 hour fitness more like 10-12 hour fitness with courts rented out to a private team for extra pennies. What do I pay top dollar for? I will be canceling my membership. I've expressed my concerns multiple times to management but he seems to care less.

General manager decided to rent out the basketball courts to an AAU team for 4-5 days a week. Paid for a yearly membership only for the basketball courts now we have limited access. Manager did it because he doesn’t like how there are so many kids on the court. If you don’t like your job than quit.
