I called this gym location to cancel my 24 hour membership, as my “home” gym recently permanently closed. The woman that answered the phone on Oct 28 2025 at approximately 1pm told me it didn’t matter if my gym location closed and that I had to come in person to cancel my account. She then abruptly hung up on me before I could ask any follow up questions. She was rude and provided horrific customer service. I called the Santa Monica location afterwards and the woman I spoke to had my membership cancelled within 3 minutes (and over the phone).

24 hour fitness has started to fix this gym! Just need to replace the missing free weights and plates and replace the toilets and urinals and it will be a 5 star 24 hour fitness! The sauna is great. The steam room is good. The Jacuzzi is nice and they have a swimming pool and it’s real close to the freeway and come check it out. Maybe you guys can even change this one to 24 hours :-)

Update 10-24-25 yesterday they had like five people come in and power wash the sauna and steam room. The showers have been consistently filled with soap and this club is definitely turning around. I want give it a five star but the only thing they need to do now is purchase and replace all the missing free weights and free plates. The male bathroom still smells kind of bad and I think the only way to fix that problem is replace the toilets and urinals with automatic ones, but they’ve been really keeping this place clean. I’m so happy to see them taking care of this 24 Hour Fitness it’s my favorite one. They have a Jacuzzi. They have a pool. Keep up the good work guys. Very impressed. If you want to check out a good 24 Hour Fitness on your way to the airport I would definitely recommend this one. And hopefully one of these days they’ll open at 24 hours again but right now it is open From 5:30 AM to 11pm

Showed up at 6am this morning to a sign on the door that said “closed for maintenance”. No mention of what type of maintenance would require the entire building to be closed or how long it would be closed. This is on top of this gym just barely being held together by duct tape as is. A disgusting, outdated and overall failure of a commercial gym. What little equipment they have loves to break or go missing.

I’ve been going here a few months because I was previously at Golds gym at Fox hills before they unexpectedly shut down that location…and TBF Golds gym was small but it was effective and the equipment was new or damn near new…location wise this gym is heaven on earth…parking is free and adequate…but as far as the facility…it makes my previous gym location look like a 4 star resort…bottom of the barrel of gyms and I’ll leave as soon as I find a better gym. The selling point of 24 slauson is the location…that’s it. I really miss my old gym 🫩

Pretty RAGGEDY. Two stars is generous for the condition of this gym. Giving one extra star because the location is good and the building itself is nice - three floors with big windows and a nice view.

Most of the equipment is old and poorly maintained - if maintained at all. There's always several treadmills out of order and usually several other pieces of equipment not working. Weights and other equipment are spread all over the gym and you may or may not find matching dumbbells, desired weights or pins for the weight machines. The sauna and jacuzzi are usually out of order, but I can't imagine wanting to step into either at this location anyway. Also, no A/C

The whole place is pretty dirty, but the bathrooms are probably the worst part of the whole experience. There is mold around all the faucets and in the grout. The sinks and countertops are stained and the drains smell. The urinals don't really flush and haven't for a while. The solution for the non-functioning urinals is putting a trash bag over some, or all of them and sometimes burning incense to cover the smell. But I don't think there's ever been an attempt to actually repair the toilets.

2 weeks ago, one of the urinals had actual pee leaking out running across the floor for 2 consecutive days, maybe longer. That's two days of people walking through pee and then tracking it through the club onto the floors people are using for stretching and crunches etc. Nasty.

Bottom line is, there are many, much better alternatives in LA for the same price as 24 Slauson. And, to whoever is responsible for copy/pasting the "looks like we have room for improvement" response to this review, no need. I've been going here for a couple years and it's obvious no attempts are being made to make this gym what it could be. Moving on!

Great location. Improvements need to be made. Place is dirty. Second floor bathroom (bathroom stall door is broken) somebody put a 25lb weight up against the door because the lock is broken ( that’s tacky as hell) men’s bathroom is nasty and in need of much repair, some of the cushions on the universal weights are totally worn out (full of holes) cardio machines need to be checked at least two treadmills need repair (inclines don’t work). The other day the elevator door kept opening and closing before going down. Before COVID this place was really nice. Post Covid it’s been a mess. It’s not open 24 hrs. I’ve never used the pool or sauna but folks complain about the temperature and the upkeep. This facility is in a fantastic location and the clientele deserves soooooo much better. Ownership/management needs to do a total evaluation in order to keep this facility up and running because if they don’t it’s just a matter of time before it gets shut down for all the wrong reasons.

Unfortunately I have to waste my time writing this review. No exaggeration, for 4 consecutive weekend evenings, the sauna has been inconveniently closed. The next weekend the sauna temperature was inadequate, if hot at all. Dumbbell rack is always empty. Also, I think video recording should be prohibited. This gym has the potential to be better but that’s another discussion.
08/29/24 at 922pm the sauna is working but does not get hot enough because too many people in and out. No room to sit. Also filled out a survey that was emailed to me that asked if I should be contacted via email or called. It’s been more than 2 weeks and yet to hear from 24hr.
08/31/24 at 1154am thanks to the employee “Cam” for wiping down equipment, and reracking weights that clients should have done. For the first time, I’ve seen dumbbells on the rack. Having a range of different pound dumbbells is a different story. Unfortunately, the sauna is still a battle to get to a temperature that feels therapeutic.
09/16/24 at 940pm the sauna is not hot at all. Last week it had one day where finally felt like a sauna. Now it’s back to wasting time in a crowded room. When is this establishment going to get its gym working appropriately. Steam room (at least 3 weeks now) and jacuzzi (over 2 months now) still out of service. And kettle bells holding doors open instead of doorstops.
09/24/24 at 545p the sauna still not therapeutic. Experienced a 10lbs plate taken off my machine and the machine next to me the user denied taken it from me. I had to walk around the section to find another plate. Unbelievable! Jacuzzi and steam room are finally working.
09/27/24 at 1256p the DRY sauna is not dry simply because the temperature never gets over 150 degrees. It’d be nice to reach 185 degrees to be therapeutic. People that go into the sauna coughing and snotty. Definitely does not feel safe. People come into the sauna right out of the pool to warm up and then walk out. Management needs to be changed to start improving this location.
9/30 at 400pm, the sauna feels much more therapeutic at approximately 158 degrees. I think steps in the right direction. But let’s at least get to a therapeutic 175-180 degrees and hope it could be consistent. Men’s Locker room was just cleaned. I see dumbbells on the rack. Thank you! Temporarily earned an additional star (2 stars) let’s keep it!

12/17/24 at 1252 I haven’t heard back from the District manager after an email sent November 18, 2024 in regards to issues, thought, and possible recommendations. The sauna still never gets therapeutic, sitting in a temperature 160 degrees or less at times. Not to mention stair masters out of service. Honestly, I give up on trying to help this location. Very disappointing. This is my final review for this location.

Poor gym shouldn’t even get one star. I’m in town & needed a quick access gym. For a 3 day TRIAL is $30 but you have to come 3 days in a row. And it’s gotten worse. This is one of the locations that sell our paid membership gym time to a private organization. It use to be a few hours but now they have them PRIME days/times for the reserve courts.

This 24 has been a staple and serving the community for over a decade and although always serviced by the most excellent staff. Lead by excellent and efficient team leaders Anthony is a grace and blessing, always looking after the faculty in a fatherly but professionally manner partnered with Daniel & Trish they are truly pack a punched. I pay a membership to play basketball in the gym and can never play at this location because I was told corporate rents this location out for aye basketball camp but online it’s say it’s can’t not be rented out every other location let you play and has the same basketball camp. This review was previously a litany of busted machines and other insurmountable obstacles to working out. As of April 2025 they've improved many things so I've improved the score.

When I originally made the review, half of what I needed to do a workout was broken or nonexistent. (Pec fly / rear deltoid machine, leg press, hip abduction, and the hot tub, which I need for medical reasons.) Today all the things I just named are working.

It's still imperfect - it's not 24 hours, the machine selection is a bit thin compared to other locations and they're still a bit slow on maintenance (the scale in the lobby has been broken since last year) - but greatly improved from a few months ago.

• People shave in the sauna
• 5 out of 14 treadmills are broken.
• 3 out of 5 exercise bikes are broken.
• The sauna is always broken.
• The elevator is always broken.
• The hot tub is always broken.
• The men’s restroom is consistently filthy.
• The 2nd floor smells like cheese or onions half the time.

• There are always 2-3 people hoarding multiple sets of free weights.
• The pec/delt fly machine is always broken.
• The squat rack, bench press, leg press, lat pulldown, and workout benches are always occupied by people doing excessive sets.
• The free weights are dirty and rarely have matching grips or weights.
• The cardio area is over crowded with elliptical machines that no one ever uses
• When open, the sauna smells like mildew.
• Almost all of the machines are from the 90s or early 2000s
• 20% of the weight room is taken up by outdated ‘lying crunch’ machines that nobody uses
• The workout mats are filthy.
• Parking is getting worse due to reduced validation hours (from 3 hours to 2) and frequent random closures of the main lot.
• The staff has little to no professionalism nor work ethic

BIGGEST ISSUE: THE GYM’S CULTURE

There is a noticeable culture of inappropriate and predatory behavior at this location.

• In the locker room and pool area, some individuals engage in perverted behavior. There have even been cases (in the men’s locker room) where shower curtains were tampered with (holes cut in them) to violate privacy.
• Women frequently experience uncomfortable staring and harassment from some male members, particularly when working out alone.
• Some men in the pool area exhibit inappropriate behavior, making it an uncomfortable space for others.

These issues—combined with the lack of
maintenance, poor hygiene, and equipment failures—make this gym a terrible value for the price.

They don't honor wellhub (gym pass) memberships. For those who don't know, wellhub offers a subscription to multiple places. This was listed as one particular site.

While the facility is good, I had the unpleasant experience of being denied entry twice. It was incredibly frustrating.

The first time, the receptionist had no idea what wellhub even was and said they had to call their manager.

The second time, they mentioned that they'd allowed me inside but that I must call wellhub and make this location my "primary location" or I can't come back.

Wellhub has no primary locations. That's kind of the whole point of the subscription.

I've reached out to wellhub to sort it out with this location, and this location seems unwilling to pick up the phone.

The staff here should communicate with wellhub as soon as possible and de-list themselves as a location if they aren't going to honor wellhub memberships.

I like this gym! It is conveniently located and they have upgraded a lot of the machines. I've requested machines and they were super responsive so fingers crossed I will soon see the hip thrust machine. The staff is always really nice and there are a good selection of machines. Hoping they will get to stay open till 11pm soon

Been coming here for two years and honestly it’s not the best. The machines are broken all the time, packed, jacuzzi is down a lot , sauna is always down for maintenance, people use 2-3 machines at a time, basketball gym packed all the time. All in all, the his gym is small and over crowded with machines and equipment down most of the time.

This 24 hour fitness always have something broken. I’ve been calling all week to find out if the spa is working, the spa has not work for one week. I don’t think this is fair to it paying members to have to pay for a club that the equipment and spa are always broken. What are their management doing? Do they listen to it members. Unfortunately, it's just too filthy to feel safe using this facility. Everything is dirty and the mold is so bad you can see it. You can tell by the reviews here that it's been reported many times but there's been no improvement in the past 6 months at least. I'm not squeamish and nobody should expect a spotless gym, but this level of filth is outrageous.

The Santa Monica location’s Dry Sauna smells awful, and there is a very similar 💩feces-like smell in this one as well.

Another corp gym like La Fit should buy out 24s, it would help with revenue and member retention. Imo of course.

This gym is terrible! They want to reduce the parking time, but they don’t fix machines that have been broken since May of last year.

The reception staff treats you badly, the machines are not maintained, and it’s getting dirtier every day… It makes me sad because it’s the closest gym to my house, so there aren’t many alternatives, but I can’t wait for my contract to end so I never have to step foot in such a poorly managed gym again.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the condition and management of the La Cienega 24 Hour Fitness location in Los Angeles. Despite being one of the busiest gyms in the country, this facility is in a shockingly poor state and does not meet the standards expected of the 24 Hour Fitness brand.

First and foremost, the cleanliness and maintenance of this gym are unacceptable. The sauna is consistently riddled with mildew and mold, posing potential health risks to members. The showers are similarly plagued by noticeable black mold, and the entire bathroom area reeks of urine. These unsanitary conditions make it difficult to feel comfortable using the amenities for which members are paying a premium price.

The lack of functional equipment is equally frustrating. For a gym marketed as “fully functional,” the reality is far from that. There are often several machines out of service, with repairs taking months or the machines simply being removed. As of now, only 2 out of 8 stair climbers are operational, and just 5 out of 15 elliptical machines work. The weight section is poorly stocked, with limited availability of lighter weights under 40 lbs. These shortcomings create unnecessary frustration for members who are simply trying to exercise.

It’s also disheartening to see a lack of effort in keeping the facility organized. Items are frequently left scattered, and staff members rarely take the initiative to patrol and ensure equipment is returned to its proper place. While I understand that some responsibility lies with the patrons, a gym this busy requires proactive staff to enforce rules and maintain order.

Lastly, it is worth noting that the name “24 Hour Fitness” suggests accessibility at all hours, yet this location is not actually open 24 hours. This discrepancy is misleading and adds to the overall dissatisfaction with the facility.

We are not seeking compensation for these issues. Instead, we hope to see genuine improvements in cleanliness, maintenance, and organization at this location. As a long-standing member, I believe this gym should reflect the standards and professionalism of the 24 Hour Fitness brand.

Atrocious Men's Bathroom on second floor. I went to this location at 5 am yesterday (11/26) and today (11/27). The men's bathroom on the second floor is Worse than a porta-potty. Worse than a dive bar bathroom. Unacceptable. Urine all over the floor for two days. I had to wipe the bottom of my shoes. People are leaving that bathroom and tracking the urine on the bottom of their shoes throughout the facility. Mop Men's Bathroom please.

Gym staff LOST my ID - I recently went to this location with a friend as a guest and the front desk person (Tricia) was very rude from the beginning. She asked me for my ID and told me they would keep it and return it after the workout. We were not even there for an hour and when we returned to get my ID, Tricia proceeded to tell me that she couldn't find it and that she had looked everywhere. Her demeanor had changed and suddenly she was being very polite. We told her we weren't leaving until she found the ID because it's also my drivers license and I'm driving out of town tomorrow, a few hours away. She proceeded to keep looking for the ID with no success. When we asked her to check the cameras to see where it was misplaced, she told us she didn't have access to it, only her manager and he would be gone until Monday. We asked her for the manager's number and she refused. We asked her if there was anyone that could check the cameras and she said no. She then offered to pay for a replacement ID herself. I was hesitant because the ID would take 4-6 weeks to arrive in the mail and I wasn't sure if I would actually be reimbursed for the fee. I also was extremely worried that either someone took my ID or it was accidentally given to someone else. We waited around a bit longer and at this point a few hours had already passed. With no other options, I ordered the replacement ID. When we went to look for Tricia so she could compensate me for the lost ID, she was nowhere to be found. We asked another worker where Tricia was and he told us she went home. He proceeded to call Tricia and ask her about the payment and she refused to send it to me over venmo/zelle. The other worker personally sent me the money which seems VERY bizarre.

This whole situation was a disaster and was handled very poorly. I still don't know what happened to my ID or if someone else has it. Tricia was very dismissive and didn't seem like she cared at all, especially after leaving without informing us. PLEASE think twice about going to this location, the staff clearly doesn't care about the customers or your personal belongings.

This is my home gym. Come here weekly and am generally satisfied. The gym floor is usually clean. However, there are a few things in need of attention. The water station has been out of order for over a month. And the ladies bathroom needs attention. Garbage cans overflowing with paper towels and one bathroom sink is consistently out of commission. Good enough but needs improvement in some key areas. Customer service & managers always courteous.

This is a terrible gym from the top down. The only 24 hour in the LA area with old, super outdated equipment which breaks frequently and takes weeks, if not months, to repair. This alone is a reason to not come but add the fact that the employees (except one) don’t do a damn thing. Weights are left all over the gym. You spend half your time searching for the equipment you need. The floor is disgustingly dirty. The employees sit at the desk, you never see them upstairs doing their job. If they would set the tone, the members would follow by putting things back. I honestly believe that because this is a gym in a predominantly black area that the owner doesn’t update the equipment and maintain it properly.

This gym has a lot of potential because of its location. It has immaculate views of Los Angeles, all the way down to LAX. However, it lacks in several other key areas. First, most of the equipment is old and sometimes broken down. They make attempts to repair them, but they only apply temporary solutions. Also, their bathroom services, showers, sinks, and water fountains are all filthy. Some of it I don’t blame on the owners and the staff, some of it is due to the clients that utilize the gym. I have seen a lot of people use the paper towels to wipe down the machines and then leave the paper towels next to the equipment without putting it in the trash. Also, the culture is not the best. A lot of people use the free weights, but do not re-rack them. You end up wasting time in between sets trying to find a matching pair of dumbbells. I guess you get what you pay for. But it says a lot about the pride in the establishment when they can’t even manage to provide basic cleanliness. It can also be very crowded as there are not a lot of other gyms nearby. If you can afford to pay the couple of extra hundred dollars a year for a more premium option, I would recommend for you to do it.

The complaints go on but the main thing is air-conditioning. Has been broken all summer and now we are experiencing the end summer heat wave and it is unbearable on the third floor. Unable to work out because it’s too hot. Staff initially had air-conditioning needed to be fixed by the national part of company and they were working on it. Now they say it is fixed yet it is obviously not. Was also told they have a new manager so I tried to give him time to make things better however I’m not seeing improvement.

They open at 5 am, I might arrive around 6 am, and the locker room is filthy and the shower is discussing. The cleaning person will put out the cleaning equipment and leave. No sign of her the whole time I’m there. If they would just get the trash off the floor it would look better and change that nasty shower curtain.

Over the 15 years I've gone to this gym, it's had its ups and downs. Currently it's in a low period. One of the most popular pieces of equipment in any gym - the Hammer Strength row - broke in early January and needs to be replaced. No word on when that will happen. Step mills continue to be broken for weeks on end. Staff puts in maintenance requests, but nothing gets fixed. The afternoon weight room cleaner's hours were cut in November, which is probably one reason that the gym is looking dirty and grimy right now. Two leaky sinks in the women's locker room were not fixed, and have now become a leak that keeps puddles steady in the sink area. It's a sad situation. The fact that the number of people who use Slauson 24 has dropped lately is no coincidence. Two bright spots are employees Taylor and Cameron. Both are hard-working and friendly. So is front desk ambassador "Kosty," who handles requests with professionalism. But if you want to do your back workout, if you don't want to wait for a step mill, if you don't like dust bunnies, and if you don't want to walk through puddles in the locker room, then this isn't your gym for now.

Had my wallet stolen out of my locker (I had it locked with a combination padlock but I guess the combination can be cracked even in the middle of a busy locker room). Staff unfortunately couldn't help since there's no cameras in the changing rooms. I no longer work out at this particular 24, even though this is the closest one to me. I don't have the peace of mind I want during my workout knowing that there are people at this gym who are actively looking to steal people's stuff.

I got a free 3 day pass. 03/01/24 was my first day. I went at 7:30 the lady at the front register ignored me and helped two guys (you guys can check your cameras). The African American guy was very helpful and polite. It was a bit confusing to find the machine you want to use, every floor is different. When I left I got charged $7.50 for 1 hour of being there. No one told me you had to validate your ticket at the register. I will not go to this gym at all. I hope you guys have a better experience.

This use to be my go to gym prior to the pandemic. Post pandemic I started going to 120th. I will be going back to Slauson. This location is a lot cleaner than 120th. This location was not crowded on the weekend. The staff is available and friendly. All of the equipment is in good working condition. I see they do have classes you can sign up for. There is parking, which you will have to have to get your ticket validated. This location has three floors. Cardio on the third floor. Weights on the second floor and locker and swimming on the first floor. If you wish to park on the roof directly across from the gym. You can park there before 6am and after 6pm. I don’t have walk out of this gym sneezing like you would at 120th

It's a great location on a main thoroughfare; Slauson /LaCienega. I pass it in da way to/from work so its quite convenient. There are several buildings and businesses in the plaza, including a Kaiser branch so there is plenty of parking, and you get parking ticket validated for up to 3 hours for the gym. There are a few food spots within walking distance of it as well. The gym itself is 3 levels, with check in/ store/locker rooms and bathrooms, as well as the pool and a small area with some machines on the ground floor. 2nd level is where all the weight machines and the basket ball court is situated. 3rd level is where you will find the cardio area....all the elliptical, treadmills, stair machines, stationary bikes and the aerobic room with the bikes for spin sessions. I've never had any issues with having to wait for a machine the times I've gone so I think that is key.....

This gym is the closest one to where I live. I had previously given it 2 stars, because the equipment was old and not completely well-maintained, especially the cardio machines. I'm happy to report that the latest management has dramatically improved this gym, and I'm starting to come here on a regular basis. The cleanliness is much improved and the members are no longer stealing the shower curtains. They have upgraded a few machines, and I now prefer this club to the Gold's Gym just a mile away in Culver City. Unlike previously, their treadmills are now all working, and the main weight machines are still here. The hours are much more flexible, especially on weekends.

Place is always packed, weights are never rerack, restroom is always filthy (upstairs and downstairs) and it smells, the only thing good about this place might be the squat equipment. I tried giving it a chance many times but its very hard to enjoy when the weights that you need are being kept hostage and the restroom sink are dirty to the point you can't even wash your hands. Also the environment in the gym feels slight uncomfortable, seen a person try to fight another person just cause he was waiting for to long (bench press). Good parking though lol

The staff can only do so much. Members need to clean up after themselves, i.e., trash on the floor, in toilet stalls, hair in the shower, leaving locker and shower doors wide open and the list goes on. I'm sure you don't do any of the above at home, so why do it at 24hr or maybe you do and that's disgusting right out nasty.

I don’t understand how parking validation works. I parked and validated my tickets but had to pay $7.50 the 1st time then $15 the 2nd time. I couldn’t do anything about it since people were lined up behind me in their cars. Is the validation /ticketing machine malfunctioning?

Under new management the big problem with this place was that they did pay much attention to the cleaning.but big ups to new management they have turn it around.almost looks new.they are updating their equipment and deep scrubbing their floors

Since, the Pandemic they are no longer 24 hours. Check the locations for the times. Also, there is a new check-in where you scan the QR code in the app, or you show your identification at the desk for an employee to sign you in.
