I’ve been a member of the Moraga 24 since it opened several years ago. It was an Elite club at the time but sadly has declined over the years. The equipment is aging and constantly needs repair and the locker room/bathroom areas are not cleaned on a regular basis. On a positive note, the front desk staff and trainers are amazing and make you feel welcome. They are certainly doing their job well! I just hope management can keep up with the equipment repairs, upgrade the bathroom facilities (it always smells) and get some basic janitorial service done on a regular basis (the mirrors haven’t been cleaned in months if ever!). I’ll probably be ignored, chastised, or get a generic response from the owner for this review, but it is my honest opinion.

As for the Rheem 24HR Fitness, I wrote this to the corporate office 9/17/25: One men's urinal has been out of service/clogged for many months. Level of cleanliness in men's bathroom has dirt in corners and frequency and quality of cleaning of urinal area is sub-par.
Equipment pads and hand grips are a serious mess being torn, worn out and shredded. Duct tape helps but deteriorates quickly. Really the worst level of care of equipment I've ever encountered. This gym is forlorn and appears like nobody is paying attention and certainly not spending adequately for maintenance.
The (final remaining) three stationary upright bikes in the far corner are in very bad shape. The one (only one that has a cup holder) on the end has a left pedal that is out of alignment/bent and needs replacement. Cup holders broken off on the remaining two. Many of the orbital machines are missing ipad holders or don't elevate when button is pressed.

I’ve had a great experience at 24 Hour Fitness Moraga. The gym is simple and accessible, and has all the equipment I need for a solid workout. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and it’s not too crowded, which makes it easy to get in and out. Convenient location for Lamo and good atmosphere overall. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone in the area.

Edit as of August 2025 - all of the problems listed below are still ongoing problems that haven’t been fixed a year later and to make it all worse, 24 Hour Fitness just sent out a mass email indicating a monthly price increase. For what? Where does our money go? Time to switch gyms.

Multiple problems with 24 Hour Fitness, this location in particular:

Things are always breaking at this location and never getting repaired. Hot water went out and it took months to get it back. There’s been a hand dryer in the women’s bathroom out of order for almost a year. Multiple treadmills, machines out of order that don’t get repaired. Yet 24 Hour Fitness has the audacity to increase monthly premiums to “keep up with standards of service.” What standards???

This location in particular also has a couple frequent customers that hog MULTIPLE machines and never put weights away. Have brought this up to the front desk staff but, of course, nothing has been done. Disgusting. Then there’s the dude that listens to mariachi music OUT LOUD on his phone as if he were the main character. Inconsiderate.

I very much like the 24 Hour gym in Moraga. The facility has so many diverse machines, a very friendly and cozy environment, plus the guys that work there are incredibly polite and helpful. Anytime that go there to workout, I come back with a positive attitude and much refreshed. Well worth time spent there.

Tried this place again after a few month break to see if it got better. It did not. As many others have mentioned, this place is unsanitary. The same messes in the bathroom are left uncleaned for multiple days in a row. The general workout areas have filth and grime on equipment and on the floor. The squat platforms have holes and are damaged - which is very unsafe. Asked nicely about canceling, but the location manager was hostile and rude.

I walked in and paid in full (cash) for a three-month membership for my son. However, every time he checks in, the system still shows that a payment is due.

I've already gone to the front desk at least three times to have this corrected. Each time, I was told that the issue would be resolved and that the system shows it's “in process.” But nothing has changed—yesterday it showed "in process," and today it still shows the same.

As a result, my son has to carry the receipt with him every time he visits the gym, which is both frustrating and unnecessary. Very unprofessional!

I enjoy my class, the instructor is fabulous, and my interactions with the staff have all been pleasant. Unfortunately there are serious sanitation issues. The bathrooms are absolutely filthy, appearing not to have been cleaned at all for weeks at a time. It’s a health hazard in my opinion. I’ve seen that same older white man with the orange hair—probably in his late 60s or 70s—and every time, his behavior is just awful. He’s openly rude, constantly using racist language, and treats both staff and customers with total disrespect. It’s honestly hard to watch.

What upsets me most is that one of the employees he targeted is such a kind and respectful person. They didn’t deserve that kind of treatment at all. I saw them try to handle the situation calmly, even reported it to the manager—but nothing was done. And today, things went even further. The police were called after the man harassed a customer, and unbelievably, the manager blamed the victim.

This isn’t right. That employee deserves to feel safe and supported at work. There needs to be action taken against that man—he’s clearly been a problem for a long time. I’m really disappointed in how the management is handling it. Silence is enabling him. Something needs to change.

Double Charged – Refund Only After Threat of Legal Action

I was an annual member at 24 Hour Fitness when I was offered a $1/month discount by a manager. I specifically said I already had an annual plan, and I was told the discount would apply to that. Instead, they signed me up for an entirely separate monthly membership and started double charging me — both annually and monthly.

When I brought it up, the manager denied I told her about my annual plan, which I absolutely did. I was getting nowhere until I mentioned legal action, and suddenly they issued a refund. I ended up getting my money back ($90.99), but it should’ve never come to that.

It felt like a misleading upsell tactic and poor customer accountability. I’m sharing this so others check their billing carefully. Make sure you’re not being charged twice like I was.

The manager at 24 Hour Fitness in Moraga acted with clear bias during a recent incident. They didn’t bother to hear my side and immediately backed the other person — no questions asked. I wish I could rate this more. The workers are very friendly but this place is dirty. A huge hairball sits in the woman’s bathroom sink. One of 4 soap dispensers is broken. One of two hand dryers is broken and there’s mold on the wall beneath the only working one. Some of the sinks are clogged. A lot of the machines are broken/ break often and take a long time to be repaired. The ceiling leaks when it rains. The cream floors are brown from dirt. Some lockers aren’t in use because people left locks on them.

Updating that they cleaned the mold. But now do not have any paper towels in the entire facility. There are no wipes so no one is cleaning anything.

I’ve been going to this gym for a while and overall, I really like it. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful, which makes a big difference. The location is also a big plus since there aren’t many good gyms nearby.
The main downside is that the cable machines are constantly breaking and take a long time to get fixed, which can be frustrating if you rely on them for your workouts.
That said, it’s still a good gym with a nice atmosphere and a convenient option for those who live in the area. I just hope they invest a bit more in equipment maintenance.

The best thing about this facility is the location in Moraga. Other than that it is really difficult to give it a good rating. I have been a member for close to 20 years and have witnessed how much this facility has deteriorated. I was there when this location opened up and had so much promise. It was very clean, there were plenty of classes, the equipment was working and properly maintained and the staff seemed to really enjoy their work and being there. The current state of the facility leaves a lot to be desired. The overall facility is very dirty. The locker room in particular is absolutely filthy. The toilet area smells of stale urine, the sinks and counter is filthy and one sink in particular is broken and has been that way for over a year. The workout equipment is in serious need of repair. Most of the elliptical machines are not working properly or there is something broken off. From plenty of classes throughout the morning and evening to now there are only a few.
