Aside from the bathrooms constantly smelling like mildew and mold and the equipment being incredibly outdated ftom the 1990's, could you at least fix machines when they break instead of letting them sit for months? Please. Just do that bare minimum.

The biggest negative about this place is just dirty. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. They stink. There’s just filthy dirt all over the bathrooms. It’s disgusting. The equipment is not well-maintained. It’s very old equipment.

I would give this place ZERO STARS if I could….All the men showers should be closed for good until they clean them or remodel them. They are disgusting!!!!!! the worst I have ever seen from a gym. It is criminal!!! You can get fungus there just from touching the walls!!!! The curtains are all ripped and full of mold, the floors are dirty all the time, the tiles are all full of disgusting mold, The ventilators are broken, with scarry nasty holes and full of rust that small pieces will fall over your head! The shower heads are all clogged or not attached to the tiles, The shower glasses are brown with mold, the drainers are all clogged , There are hair piles on the floor. Sunday it smelled like a dead animal was decomposing there!!!!! The toillets smell like urin all over, Toillet paper all over the floor, There is always water on the floor and a wet sign around! Wanna wash your hands?????? Only one side of the hand washers work. Then only one dryer works and it keeps going on and on…. All these new front desk hires ???? Always on their phones playing games or watching YouTube Videos!!!! Where is the cleaning crew????? Does this ever get cleaned ??????? The water fountains???? One has not been working for over a year and the other is disgusting full of mold and and rust. Scott ( the manager) is a good guy but he needs to do a much better job than this. These need to be fixed NOW!!!!!!!!

I've been training with Kyla at 24 Hour Fitness Mission Valley for some time now, and I truly look forward to our sessions. I'm 74 years old, and thanks to Kyla's guidance, I feel stronger, more balanced and definitely more fit. She always tailors the workouts to my needs, listens carefully, and makes sure I'm progressing safely.
She challenges me just enough and is always positive and encouraging. I appreciate her professionalism and sense of humor - she makes working out something I enjoy. She's the best.

Just started going to this gym in June 2025 there's always room for classes and cardio which is super convenient. Theres a trainer named Muntathar known as Monty that I've recently been working with and I'm so glad that I did, he's very helpful, knowledgeable and cares about your fitness journey! Highly recommended. Scott is welcoming along with his staff at the main entrance, he’s made a community that feels safe!
It would be nice to make the hours longer but overall I recommend this gym !

I’d like to highly recommend Monty as a trainer. He is not only knowledgeable and dedicated but also genuinely kind and supportive with everyone he works with. Monty takes the time to understand each person’s goals and adapts his training style to help them succeed while keeping workouts engaging and motivating. His positive energy, consistency, and professionalism make him a standout trainer and a pleasure to work with.

Great location and love the layout of the gym. There is a big LGB community which I don’t have a problem with however; the staff has decided to put up clear shower curtains in the locker room showers. There were 2 incidents where I saw another male member looking at me through the curtain. I feel a “Frosted curtain” which cost the same amount would have been better for some privacy while showering. This is the only gym with clear curtains I have been to and it might have been intentional.

It used to be my favorite location to go after the downtown and Grossmont locations were shut down. Everyone is crammed into this location and someone keeps stealing the 10 lb plates so I don't like bother the next person to borrow the plates really quickly when I'm trying to hit a PR. I just go to the gym just to get in shape.

Definitely one of the better 24 hour fitness clubs (and I have been to most throughout San Diego County), mainly because of the attentive management. Scott, the GM, is always open to making the club a better more welcoming place. It helps that he actually uses the equipment in the club too. One sign of a great club: look at the dumbbell racks. Theirs are always in order (unlike a lot of other clubs).

I am positive that the people leaving anything higher than 3 stars are from an alternate reality. I’ve been coming to this gym for about a year and here are my thoughts.
The gym floor itself is decent. Free weights, pulleys, class room, treadmills, stair machines, etc. It’s average gym; you can get a good workout. I will say though that although I’ve never seen anyone cleaning, the floor looks decently clean.
The men’s locker room and showers are absolutely deplorable. You don’t deserve a working clock in there, much less a working tv (not that you need it but it seems to be a staple in every other 24 hr gym I’ve visited). The air vents are absolutely destroyed and covered in what is likely mold. for The walls and ceilings are spotted with the same. The shower curtains are either non existent, ripped, dirty, or grimy. The shower floors show a greenish film on them. I don’t mean to bash on this gym but these guys don’t even try to keep this area clean. I’m surprised the City’s health department hasn’t shut it down as a health hazard. I don’t take pictures so as to not violate 24’s policy prohibiting pictures in this area, but I encourage you men to go in there and take a look. As rate paying members, we deserve clean facilities. This is unacceptable, and what’s more, in a year, I have not seen an effort to fix it.

I’ve been going to this gym for over 10 years. Lupe is amazing. The 5am crowd knows the gym will open on time and clean whenever she’s working. She’s always cleaning something and takes pride in her work. Docking off a star because when she’s not working, it’s a 50/50 chance the person covering won’t show up, which is a bit annoying. But this gym has everything i need to get a good workout in.

Living in Mission Valley, this is a nice location and the staff are for the most part friendly and engaging. As a long time 24 hour member, there are some opportunities for improvement.
1) Please make sure the equipment is in working order. There are times when it took weeks to repair equipment. Also, there is equipment that is missing parts or damaged.
One of the squat rack needs to be bolted down. The one next to the Smith Machine specifically. I would hate to see someone break the mirror putting back the weights
2) Dusting the fans could be done more often.
3) Hand sanitizer dispensers should be replaced. The handle to dispense is working on a few.

I've been going to club 67 in Mission Valley for several years now, and at this point have visited every 24 Hour in San Diego, and club 67 is my favorite by a long shot.
Don't let it's small size fool you. It's got all the necessary WORKING equipment, enough space for you to walk around without tripping on other people's stuff, and the front desk folk are the nicest people.
I'll gladly go to the smaller location that closes a bit earlier if it means I'm going to have working equipment, friendly folk, generally a more chill crowd.

She was also very encouraging when I felt like I had to take a break and made sure to check in so I didn’t push myself too much. I signed up for a training plan with her and am very excited to start.

After several emails addressing issues and needed repairs, I've seen no improvement. Whenever deep cleans happen, it's noticeable for the first few days because deep cleanings are rare and infrequent. One major issue is that there are trashcans in each bathroom stall with visible feces that make the entire bathroom smell. Biohazard as well. Several machines need to be reupholstered, specifically the laying down leg curl. There are only two ropes for cables, one of which is frayed due to people adjusting them for single-arm exercise. The frayed ropes look unsafe and give a cheap feel. This gym could invest in several more ropes and a few single grip ropes. They could also replace three single grips for cables that went missing or were broken. This gym has declined in equipment and quality since I started coming here in 2022.
-Edit: I don't want to be personally contacted. I want issues fixed and broke/missing equipment replaced.
Edit 12/2024.
None of the above concerns I mentioned were fixed except adding a few more ropes. One urinal had been out of order for several weeks and good luck if you can hole your breath. The bathrooms smells like urine and ammonia because of the broken one. Lastly, there’s graffiti in the bathrooms now. Can someone from corporate have a look and invest in elevating this facility?

This location has gotten so bad. I know Westfield sold Mission Valley Center, so maybe 24 Hour Fitness is just waiting to close this location permanently. I know labor and hiring are tough, so maybe they can't find any cleaning staff. The equipment is old, so maybe they have trouble getting parts for the broken machines that it takes months and months for them to repair. I've given them the benefit of the doubt for so long, but it has become untenable. The last straw was this week when the men's room toilet area was flooded with urine from a broken urinal. They put up yellow wet floor signs, but refused, REFUSED to mop it up. The shower stalls in the men's room have mold on the vents. Those stalls never get cleaned. Most of the sinks don't work. Many homeless use this location as a shower facility and leave discarded old, soiled clothes and shoes, empty bottles, and trash around in piles on the floor. It is unfathomable that with all the bad reviews on here and on Yelp that 24 Hour Fitness corporate lets this neglect continue. You can tell they just don't care about the facility or member experience.

*UPDATE 2*
Could really use some new treadmills! The current supply of treadmills are constantly breaking down with no ETA on replacement/fix! Also, what happens to 60min limit on cardio machines?!? Monopolizing one machine is ridiculous!! Back down to 2 stars!
*UPDATE*
With how busy this gym gets during peak hours, corporate should REALLY consider consolidating both Mission Valley locations and taking over the long vacant Macy’s building, or the soon to be vacant Bed Bath and Beyond building! Creating another Super Sport or an Ultra Sport (none in SD) would be beneficial!
I don’t understand why there are so many complaints about this gym! It’s a gym; it has treadmills, ellipticals, TRX training, ropes, and all the machines and weights you’d hope to find in a gym. Regardless of whether or not machines are new or old, you can still work out here for an hour or two and be satisfied with the outcome! It should be the effort you put into your workout that determines the outcome, don’t blame the gym!
With that said, it would be appreciated if people would consistently wipe down their machines after use! Sweat, although minimal at times, does linger on a machine if not wiped down!
Thanks

The gym should post signs that back packs and duffle bags must be stored in lockers instead of the gym floors. Members are setting their duffel bags next to equipment to reserve the equipment for themselves but the member is nowhere to be seen. It’s extremely inconsiderate. Today I went to the cable machine and I saw a back pack but no member, so I started using it. The member shows up 5 minutes into my set and points to his bag indicating that he was “on the equipment “. This is pretty standard behavior at this location. I probably won’t renew my membership.

I was so sick today waiting on a machine again this guy was on his phone for 25 minutes and than he started to socialize with his friends and after played a while on his phone while i was waiting for the machine. I walk up to the front desk and escalated to the manager name called scott greene and he was incredibly rude! He told me there is nothing he can do and he got super upset to for no reason instead of helping the situation. Manager scott told me some gyms are cheaper than others for a reason and you get what you paid for. I mean what a ridiculous customer service, if you would call this a customer service. I asked him to cancel my membership and he started to raise his voice to me and said he will be more than happy to cancel. This gym doesn't deserve your money nor your time if you plan to enroll. Help yourself and enroll somewhere at least more apologetic and have empathy towards your frustration. I am sure i am not a big loss for 24 but some other gum will get my business and i am sure they will be happy to!

They only accept Americans. As a foreigner you’re not allowed. I can’t believe this is legal. I’m in San Diego for a few months from abroad and they wouldn’t let me in without an San Diego/American ID or proof of residence. Not sure why my money isn’t as valid as someone else’s, I would’ve happily paid for a few months here.
This seems like a discriminatory practice.

Has all the basics and it smells less like old sweat and feet than the Balboa location. The free weights, benches, and cable machines are all fine, but the other machines are hit or miss or are out of order for weeks at a time. It is also disappointing that they do not have a gender neutral bathroom available.
The company "responds" to reviews but does absolutely nothing to make changes. Obviously very corporate and you get what you pay for.

This place is convenient for me - as I live in North Park. Ive been going here for 6 years. And it's cheaper than the gyms IN North Park.
Unfortunately this is one of the 24Hr Fitness spots that is NOT actually 24 hours. It closes at 10 during the week and has pretty early closing hours for weekends. The equipment is cleaned regularly as are the bathrooms and showers.
Diversified weights but some challenges that all big gyms have:
Elliptical machines - some "click" or "snap" as you step. There are many machines, but some need maintenance and their approach seems more - let it break all the way. Then we"ll fix it.
The water fountains have been im disrepair since ive been going - there are 2 sets of dual fountains and the far right one is broken for each set. Also the actual button to receive water is broken on the other.
When machines do break (seated leg press, hip abductor) it takes a while for them to be fixed.
Medicine balls (the big puffy inflated balls for crunches. Etc) aren't maintained well. Those things don't work if they're not inflated all the way. If they're soft/deflated there's no point - they're not doing what they're supposed to for you.
The staff is either unwilling or unable to change the channel of televisions. There's a television that's been frozen on the same screen/image for over a week - staff seem to just ignore it.
I know the Covid's over but the sanitizing liquid and the paper towels run out often. They're not replaced very often. There used to be a table with those supplies, While that seems unnecessary now, the individual stations run out.

I complained that the radio is too loud. Even when wearing noise cancelling ear buds the music (and the 24hr Fitness commercials which are 50% louder) are intrusive when listening to my own music. I asked the manager, Scott Green, to turn it down to background music. I argued that 90% of people already have something in their ears so they don't want to hear it also. He responded that 'they can't turn it down for one customer's request'. He missed the point... this one customer, PLUS 90% of the other people, don't want to hear it. Seems that should be a slam dunk for customer relations but, no, this week he had turned it up louder! I won't be going there until this is fixed.

Customer service definitely not up to par.
They dont take care their patrons that is local to the area. I asked if they offer a 3 day pass or at least a day to test out the gym since its the closest to my home. They said no, including the manager that gave me a racist vibe (His entire crew is not diverse as well). Anyways, so I end up paying 15 bucks to try their gym. They only have few equipments, and not upgraded as well. Not worth my 15 dollars at all.
Overall, they are more about the money than actually helping people or taking care of their patrons. Im definitely not coming back.

Poorly maintained. 1 of the 4 water stations are functional. Seems the urinals always leak and have a puddle. A few of Sinks in bathroom don't work, staff at front desk busy on their cell phones at times. No music in the gym. Broken foot straps on exercise bikes, TV on the same channel for 3 years in locker room ( nba package direct tv screen)
Update : 4/3/23
Water stations still down,no greeting from front desk.

I love this gym but today was super uncomfortable I went to use the bathroom and there was a lady completely naked drying her hair and body with the hand dryer my girlfriend went in first and told me I wanted 30 min later and I went she was still in there getting ready naked! Please put a sign on to at least have a towel on.

I was a 30-year member of the Hillcrest facility, a place I could walk to and see friend/regulars. When it closed during Covid, I went to the outdoor Mission Valley outdoor facility. It was OK all things considered.
But when Hillcrest closed permanently and Mission Valley reopened inside I realized just how awful this place is (especially in comparison with Hillcrest).
The Mission Valley facility is a dungeon. It's dark - no natural light and very little artificial light to compensate. Don't let the promo photos fool you - all that light is gone. The place is an effing dungeon.
Pre-Covid, when I worked out at Hillcrest, I could do drop-sets on a different body part every day. Not in Mission Valley. There really isn't enough free-weight equipment here for those of us who need it. (No 30# barbells?)
Finally, I know that every 24 Hour franchise is different, but I just can't find the same sort of equipment / machines I used at Hillcrest at Mission Valley. There probably are equivalents, but once I stumble around in the dark and find a POS similar machine , it's being used by other folks who have migrated to Mission Valley after their own neighborhood facilities have been closed.
I want to continue my membership with 24 Hour Fitness, but my absolute disgust with the Mission Valley facility's lack of available equipment, and it's dungeon-darkness without any sort of workout music, makes me question my membership.
I really miss my daily workouts, but I effing hate trying to work out at the Mission Valley dungeon.

I just signed up to the 3 day complimentary pass in preparation to move from my Platinum membership with LA Fitness and to try and find a new gym.
My first experience was very dissatisifying! The employee behind the counter informed me I could only use it for 1 day due to being a member in Hawaii four years ago which doesn't work when trialing a new gym!
I found the employee quite rude, lazy, had an attitude problem, his attitude put me off straight away and I walked straight out or the door. Please work on your customer service skills!

First time at this location, and not bad, there’s lots of equipment, it’s more like vintage than upgraded to modern equipment, which is not a problem as long as the machines aren’t broken. I’m not sure what happened to the lockers in the women’s restroom, but maybe that’s something staff may answer, there may be some California changes I’m not aware of as of right now.
I enjoyed my workout while I was here, one odd thing I did notice was the showers have a setting of cold water is hot and hot water is cold, that may be a job for a plumber, if the men at this facility do not have additional jobs and would love to fix these problems that may be another job to have at the facility they already work at or the employees can always find local resources that may be able to get the job done.
If investors are what’s necessary for funding, their employees can always do some research on development, reviews help businesses know where they are able to improve and where they are not meeting customer satisfaction. I personally don’t like bad reviews, but the least I can say is they help businesses get feedback on maintaining these facilities open. When too many reviews are bad reviews, businesses close or are underfunded and we don’t want that if we want to business to thrive and for people to keep their jobs (:
I enjoyed my workout, at least what I used seemed to work fine!
Thank you
I give this place between a 3-4/5, I couldn’t tell you what to expect of a 5 star gym, that’s something for the team here to brainstorm with their coworkers! Teamwork makes the gym work 🙂

Super disappointed with the manager Khal. Unfriendly and not willing to help me out with a 3 day trial pass. After presenting him with multiple forms of verification as a San Diego resident, he still turned me away. Definitely won’t be signing up at that location as long as he’s an acting manager. Khal is not manager tier.

Centrally located. This is my go to gym. I just wish the AC situation was better. I know the old school AC system and it’s output is out of 24 hour’s control. It would be nice if the management spent a few hundred dollars and put some floor fans in there. It’s way too hot. Makes working out unenjoyable.

I have been a member of 24 hr for over a decade. Going to the closest 2 locations for over a year now since Hillcrest closed. I attend the Balboa and this Mission Valley location. I'm glad the mall one stayed open as it's the closest one to my home. The clubs Sales and Service manager, Jorge Paredes, is one of the most friendly, caring, knowledgeable hard worker at 24 hr. He takes the time to talk to the guests working out in the gym, which at the other gyms I have never seen in a manager. He takes pride in his job, cleaning all areas even in the bathrooms. I would talk to him and thank him for caring about his club. I give him 10 + Gold Stars. He is an amazing worker, and I enjoy seeing him at Mission Valley each time I work out. I m glad 24 hr has him there. Thanks for that. He takes the time to say hello and talk to you no matter if he is busy or not. Great manager Jorge is. Keep up the great job. Total asset to the Mission Valley gym. We need him at all the 24 hr locations. Thanks Jorge 🤗

I almost wasn’t able to work out at all because I had an out of state drivers license despite paying rent here. (Not sure why my address matters to workout) The girl at the front desk also said they had to keep my license while I worked out. Right off the bat I had a bad feeling. The gym it’s self is small, dark and outdated. Honestly, it is the worst gym I have ever been to and a complete rip off for 40 bucks a month! Not sure I would even want to go back for a bargain.

I just moved to San Diego from Poway. It's about 18 miles away. I live .03 Miles from the 24 hour fitness in Mission Valley. So I downloaded my 24 hour fitness 3 day pass. So I take a pre work out supplement called C4 and show up. I was denied entry by the front desk guy because my driver's license says Poway CA. 92064. Which is a part of San Diego county. He says it's just for San Diego locals. But he is ready to sell me a 1 day pass for 15.00. earlier the same day I did a tour with the assistant general manager and had a meeting lined up for a personal trainer..... As you may guess we can kiss that idea good bye.

This gym is in severe disrepair; missing tile, broken and rotted drywall, burned out lights, missing light bulbs.
I would let that slide but to top that off its also dirty; trash all over the locker rooms, used q tips, soiled paper towels, a ring of grime on the walls of the baseboards, even the entry to the gym was dirty with sheetrock dust.
Also this was not at a peak time, they were not particularly busy.

Went online to sign up for the free 3 day trial. Received a phone call the following day by a representative to invite me into location to redeem the 3 day free trial. However when I went in, The gym rep said they could not honor 3 day trial even though a different representative called me the day prior to invite me to location due to COVID restrictions. Seems like a scam to try and get new customers in so they can sell them a membership. A simple call stating they COULD NOT honor the free trial would've saved everyone the hassle prior to driving to the location to be told no.
