They have been advertising that they are closing at 2:00 pm for Thanksgiving, and we got there at 12:40 and they put a sign out no more entry after 1:00 pm and as soon as we get inside they said you have 20 mins to workout because they are understaffed and they have to clean for an hour..... Which is 🤬🤮because this gym is never clean. Don't say you close at 2:00 pm if you are not closing at 2:00 pm .. Lack of professionalism and poor planning is not appreciate it . I tried this place a couple of times including just after they remodeled. They don't have any spin bikes, and we ended up leaving because this gym doesn't really have what we were looking for. If you're looking for a more trendy gym....it might be a decent fit for you.

Aaron was a great coach. I am an older person and he always made sure I was okay and comfortable with the workout. Not saying he didn't nudge me to improve but at a pace my body could take. I feel much better and stronger. I would highly recommend Aaron to anyone.

of course it’s a gorgeous gym Maybe one of the best 24 hours in San Diego, And there are beautiful women here if you like beautiful women, and there’s gorgeous men here I’ll just throw that out there to be fair, but the real reason why this place is amazing is because of an employee named Chance. One of the most personable knowledgeable, 24 hour fitness employees I’ve ever seen and he made us laugh and I’m actually showing off this gym to my little brother and he’s making my brother even laugh I just hope 24 hour fitness will read something like this and given young man an opportunity to step into corporate leadership. Ah yes when the 24 thats the only actual 24 within the San diego area cares more about shoes in a room then any of the other major concerns. Like the homeless people lurking in the parking lot or living in their cars. Or the broken machines that don't worry they were closed for so long remodeling god knows why new machines would break. Since its renovation in August 2025, this gym has seen significant positive changes. The improvements observed include:

-New and modern equipment.

-Proactive cleaning staff wiping down all machines throughout the day.

-Regular floor vacuuming.

-A well kept pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna.

Overall, the quality of the facility is excellent. Alex the front desk was also helpful in responding to any questions. Keep up the great work!

So the “Shirt and Shoes Required at All Times” rule is apparently just a suggestion, unless you’re a man. Females can walk around in bikini tops and micro spandex scraps, but if I did the same, I’d be asked to leave? Should I show up in a triangle "sports" bra next time and see if that magically counts as a shirt? The hypocrisy is laughable. This gym can be very busy.
They just recently upgraded it.

My biggest problem are the customers.
1st time I had closed my eyes and layed back in my car around rush hour, a 45 minute drive was currently over 3 hours, I was too tired to drive, i did not fall asleep. I literally over hear a lady on the phone with 911 stating that I looked suspicious and my car description,and her friend saying to himself out loud "He should go home if he wants to sleep." Both people were only 5 feet away from my car.
I was so upset, I rolled my windows down yelling "What is your problem?!"

2nd time someone drove into the back of my car. Dented it, hit & run.

3rd time someone came up to my car while I was on the phone tried putting their arms over my windows to steal a bag of mine - no success fortunately.

Other than those problems in the parking lot the gym is quite nice, lots of equipment.

I’ve been training here with my personal trainer, Adrian since October 2024. Adrian’s been great to work with - flexible with scheduling, supportive, and always pushing me toward my goals. I highly recommend Adrian if you’re looking for a personal trainer.

The gym itself is great - newly renovated and looks super clean and modern. Hopefully following the renovation, the staff maintains the cleanliness of the machines and bathrooms. The gym can get super busy at times, so you might have to drive around for a parking spot or wait for a machine.

I hope these upgrades include working sinks and toilets(toilet has been out of service for about a month), adding trash bins in the toilet stalls to help prevent clogs, maybe a budget and plan on keeping more cleaning personnel, fixed lockers, a sauna door that closes, maybe even a sign on the door on sauna etiquette too. that would be nice. treadmills that do t breakdown so often…Really looking forward to these upgrades though!

Avoid This Location – Crowded & Shady Practices

I used to be a loyal 24 Hour Fitness member due to the cheap membership and allowing national access and a buddy pass which I frequently used with my girlfriend. This location is always incredibly overcrowded though so I decided to canceled my membership in favor of an alternative gym.

Shortly after, I got a call from 24 Hour Fitness offering to reinstate the SAME yearly membership at a lower price. I accepted given that it was decently cheaper, but now they’re telling me it’s a “different” membership with fewer benefits than my original plan. This bait-and-switch approach is unacceptable.

I’ve heard that since 24 Hour Fitness was bought out, the quality and business ethics have been going downhill. Unfortunately, my experience confirms it. Between the crowds, poor communication, and deceptive practices, I can’t recommend this gym to anyone.

Most overcrowded gym. Broken machines all over the gym that don't get fixed for days to weeks. Dirty, cleaning supplies are often depleted. I spend a considerable amount of my time waiting for equipment to become free.

Not enough equipment! I have been telling you to get another pec fly machine for over a year now. Last week I had to wait an hour and a half to use it! Tonight I got on and then FOUR people interrupted me to ask how many reps I had left. FOUR people! It’s currently 9 PM on a Tuesday. I can’t imagine what it’s like at 5 or 6pm. Also you haven’t repaired the handles in months. Meanwhile space is wasted on ellipticals nobody uses and numerous broken treadmills. This is ridiculous and causes hostility - I see people getting angry with each other. Planet Fitness just opened a new location near me. I’ll likely join them once they’re done setting up.

This place is 24 hrs convenient. But looks like no time for workers to cleanup. Shower leaking for a month now. I meantion it to one of the workers in the front desk three week ago. I've seen the sign saying save water with short shower. The showe is fix after 2.5 months. It's last week of Jan 2025 the shower is fixed. The sauna smells in there they never clean it , sweat all over the floor. It's un healthy department of health should inspect this place for public safety. Five treadmills out of order still. Been like this going on six or seven weeks. Can tell that the equipment has not been wiped down. Old sweat drips on treadmills and weight machines. **Title: This Gym Changed My Life, My Muscles, and Possibly My Marital Status**

Let me just say, if you haven’t been to **24 Hour Fitness in Carmel Mountain**, are you even living? Walking into this gym is like stepping into a fitness utopia where the air smells like fresh gains and lemon-scented dreams. First off, the **facility is so clean** I genuinely thought I’d walked into a luxury spa or maybe a sterile NASA lab—one where astronauts train and also do burpees.

And then—**THE GENERAL MANAGER.** Sweet protein shakes, where did they find this Greek statue of a man? I don’t know if he’s managing a gym or auditioning to be the next Marvel superhero. I was mid-treadmill session when I saw him walk by and nearly yeeted myself into another dimension. He’s got that “I drink green smoothies and make spreadsheets look sexy” kind of energy.

The staff? Super friendly. The machines? Immaculate. The lighting in the locker room? Honestly, flattering enough to make me consider becoming an Instagram fitness influencer.

If you're thinking about checking it out, **stop thinking. Just go.** You’ll leave with sore muscles, a sense of purpose, and perhaps a new crush on the man who runs the place with the charm of a rom-com heartthrob and the organizational skills of a military commander.

This is the worst gym! They never do any repairs on their equipment. Right now there are 10 cardiovascular machines that are off-line and they have been off-line for many months now. Every time I ask when they’re going to be repaired, I’m told that the manager is on deployment and no one else is able to handle the issue. This is ridiculous. If you’re looking for a gym, find a different one because this place is just an exercise and frustration.

I am updating this review because now the only handicap stall in the women’s bathroom is off-line. This club does not care at all about maintenance. I found out the other day that they no longer have anyone repairing equipment. 100% of the repair efforts are solely going to keep the toilets running. This club is in serious trouble. I’ve been a member for 25 years and I’m guessing they’re going to be going out of business within the next year. They need to stop paying millions to the Board of Directors and spend that money on maintaining the clubs. Notice the dust on some of the signs. It shows how long these machines have been off-line.

The other thing that I was told is that they are offering a free month of membership to anyone who leaves a five star review. That means really cannot trust the reviews that are posted.

Well, I am adding to this review. Today I was at the gym and they were repainting! None of the machines have been fixed, which is the primary thing those of us with a membership are coming to use, but they think it’s a good idea to spend money on painting. These people really have their priorities screwed up.

The two lane pool is outside. And you have to walk the entire length of the pool to get to the hot tub. I took one look and walked out. I highly recommend Jake as both a personal trainer and group fitness instructor. Under Jake's guidance, I've made significant progress in my strength training. He also took the time to understand my specific condition and thoughtfully modified exercises to ensure they were both safe and effective for me. The locker rooms, sauna and steam room areas are always really dirty and smelly :( today I watched someone try to go into the steam room and it smelled like straight pee and it went into the waiting area. This is the 2nd cleanest 24 hour behind Carlsbad...but I've never seen so many machines out of commission...and they're not just out for a week....I've seen the lateral elliptical machines by the locker rooms out for months....I believe there's 5 to 7 treadmills out and at least 4 out for a while...cmon let's get this stuff fixed. Does not honor free 3-day guest passes from their own website. The gym was so packed I doubt I could have gotten a full workout in anyways.
I wanted to try the gym before committing so I selected this location on their website and was able to submit a request for a free 3-day pass. Drove all of the way there only for the staff to rudely tell me they would not honor it and I would have to pay $25 for a day pass if I wanted to try their gym before signing up. It was rude and made me feel like they profiled me since the website offered free passes but they quickly sent me away when I was physically there.

It's one of the newest and nicest 24-hour Fitness gyms around. There are a ton of machines for cardio and lots of weights. It is well lit and well maintained. There are several different activity rooms that are separate from the main area. The whole gym is a single story.

There is lots of parking available, and charging stations for EVs as well.

I love this place as a new citizen in San Diego.
Just need to drive 20 min or move closer.
Probably the highedt quality 24 in SD. Love the work out area and for esp sauna and pool is a health bliss. The shower area need some improvement.

I highly recommend this gym. The sauna is a very important aspect to my health and fitness. They keep the sauna at the temperature needed to illicit the best health benefits. Saunas need to be at least 180 degrees for optimal results.

Most other gyms keep the sauna too cool and it is a waste of time.

Also, staff is really friendly and helpful. This is a great gym!

There are dozens of reviews stating this already but the locker rooms and bathrooms are filthy and smell putrid. I'm a newer member and I think I'm going to cancel because of how disgusting it is and management clearly does not take cleanliness and health concerns seriously

Solely on staff - I've been contemplating a membership at 24 Hour Fitness due to recommendations from several friends who are already members. However, my attempts to reach a manager for the past three days have been unsuccessful. Despite making five phone calls, I only received a response stating that the manager is currently, "on his own kind of vacation." The assistant manager, who was supposed to follow up with me daily, has also failed to do so and I have checked to make sure they have my information.

This lack of responsiveness is incredibly disappointing, especially considering the positive experiences my friends have had at this location. I'm going out of my way to write this review to express how frustrating this experience has been. Furthermore, workers at the gym mentioned that the assistant manager doesn't have much authority and may not be very helpful. They suggested waiting for the manager to return, but unfortunately, they couldn't provide any information on when that might be.

To my dismay, unfortunately, I'll have to take my business elsewhere.

In addition, when I have been there on the buddy pass, the mens locker room has always been dirty and wet. You couldn't pay me to walk barefoot there.

Nice gym but it's HOT, like 76 degrees , they don't turn AC on and in winter, heat is too high. I feel lethargic and my workouts suffer. They need to think of their members getting hot exercising rather than staff.

4/5 stars is being generous. Men's showers need to be a whole lot cleaner. Tonight, a Sunday, only 1-2 of the showers had soap in the dispensers. So at least 8 were empty. Listen, I get it, it's a busy club. It takes a lot to stay on top of maintenance. But with all those members (the place is always packed), they are generating huge dues revenue, so there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to provide top notch maintenance. C'mon club management, figure it out!

Terrible customer service. The girl I called and spoke to was so rude and disrespectful. I was baffled by her approach. This gym was one of my favorite gyms to go to but since I’ve been busy I haven’t been able to go. I asked her about certain things but each time she kept giving me different answers. At one point she said “It was not my fault you did not get the email”. Who talks to someone like that? It’s upsetting to deal with people like that when you’re trying to get your stuff resolved. Other staff I have spoken to were friendly, for some reason this girl was just rude to another level.

I don't get all the 1-star reviews about this place. Yes, it's crowded if you go right after work, this is not rocket science. It seems clean enough to me. It's actually smaller than the one 5 minutes up the road and more centrally located, so you do the math. The outdoor pool is nice since you don't get overpowered with chlorine and people avoid it when it's cold or raining.

This is unfortunately one of the worst 24 hour locations despite it having so much potential. It does not get cleaned, the sauna and steam room smell so bad I can smell it from inside the locker rooms and there’s mold everywhere. I’ve tried it out multiple times in hopes that it would get better, but I can’t go back anymore.

This gym is nicer than LA fitness. The only thing I would change is to put back one or more of the heavybag/boxing bags, which someone broke. It was the main reason I left my old gym. I have driven to almost every other 24hr to use this, but this location is missing one.

What is it going to take for the staff to do something about people who sit on the machines and play on their phones??? I have brought this up before and nothing has happen. People sit on the machines and play on phones with no regard to other people who are waiting to use the machine. When I brought it up to the staff at the front desk, they just looked at me and went back to their conversation among themselves. On three different occasions in the past two weeks, I have counted 7 to 9 people sitting at the machines on their phones, not doing their sets. Management needs to come out of their offices and start paying attention to what's happening on the floor.

So I like this location, I'll say it again I don't want to go another location...previously after my last review some stuff had gotten cleaned like the steam room and the showers... well it's been a couple weeks and the showers look like they are still getting cleaned but the steam room and Suana still look and smell pretty bad, I was very happy after they cleaned the steam room it was very nice to be in and didn't smell but now it's back to having black marks all over again ands smells like mildew, on another note the showers stalls seem to being cleaned but the actual shower room in between the stalls the ceiling is covered in white and black mold!!! Lastly I'm personally confused how there are several punching bags at other locations but we can't get 1 punching bag replaced at 1 location....I don't see any reason 24hr can't pull a punching bag from another location for the Carmel mountain ranch!!!

There’s an Asian chic that works the front desk who looks like she hates everyone. She tried to turn me away from a 3 day guest pass because I was a gym member back in 2022. On their personal Carmel Mountain site, their policy said you can have a 3 day pass as long as you haven’t been a member for the past 6 months. I pointed it out to her, she tried to argue and make me go to the PQ location. She even told me”it’s not an official policy it’s a verbal agreement amongst staff”. Eventually she just gave up and only gave me a ONE day pass. No management to contact either. I kinda felt bad for her though, she must have some miserable issues going on.

Equipment and facility are great, the only issue the men's shower stalls are nasty there is black mold building on the walls and even though I contacted 24 hours corporate they have NOT done anything. Also the men's toilet many of times are nasty they also need to be cleaned. And the steam room needs cleaning at the walls as well. The janitor in this place is not doing the job, too bad.

I am member for 2 years, some of the employees rude, disrespectful and mean. It was 11:45 pm I was there to pay my yearly membership, an employee was playing with his phone I was waiting in front of Him standing without help. When he started the application, and there was incoming call he kept his self busy talking with other side of the line. I was waiting right in front of him for almost 20 minutes.

I hope the management take care of the rude employees.

I was excited when they first built this location. But now it's lacking. Not a fan of the Hoist equipment. They need to re-apholster the seats and other parts that are coming apart. Some of their equipment don't have smooth movement. The bathroom showers have mildew. The steam room and sauna smell and patrons don't take off their shoes when going in so they track all their dirt inside despite having the signs on the doors. The fans are way too high during late night when there's barely anyone there. Someone sneezed the other night and didn't cover their mouth and you know the rest. I usually ride my EUC to other locations and they usually let me bring it in to post it inside but this location won't allow it.

They have a bunch of unhappy people working there just looking miserable. It’s also dirty and they have no idea what they are doing or have any good customer service. this is by far terribly managed. When unhappy management never returns calls and most gym associates are often rude and leave you on a excessive hold. Refunds are unheard of , respect is unheard of. Trainings is good if you have previous gym experience but don't expect coaching or help with trying to learn for yourself so you never have to ask again. Interested in collecting your money and keeping it that' s all this place is with rude, and neglectful arrogant behavior.

The Good:
Lots of equipment but gets crowded during week from about 5 pm - 7 pm.

The Bad:
Men's bathroom is disgusting. Smells and never seen it clean or anyone cleaning it. Always smells like piss and floor yellow from it in front of urinals. And all kind of debris can be in urinals. I look up at ceiling when I can't hold it any longer and have to make the dreaded trek to bathroom. Lots of posts here about dirty bathroom and seems the management and staff could care less.

In terms of staff, they seem to do a lot of gossiping, talking to each other. And there are often several of them working but not one of them vacuums or cleans. They seem to only sign up new members.

When this location first opened, I would give it 5 Stars. It is slowly becoming like it's sibling gym 1 mile away in Rancho Penasquitos. Treadmill plastic front has layers of dust. Men's bathroom, especially the urinals and sinks, are disgusting. Need to straddle urinal to avoid stepping in urine.

I go workout about 3x weekly and have never seen the bathroom cleaned or in clean condition.

In the past I was member of Chuze in Rancho Bernardo and LA Fitness in 4S Ranch. Both facilities, especially Chuze was always clean. Their staff went around hourly cleaning. At 24 Hour Fitness, staff only concerned in new members and private lessons. Cleaning, meh, who needs that?!

I can see that in a few years, this once nice location will be as dirty and old as its Penasquitos sibling gym. And for $40, or whatever other members pay for Super Sport, we should expect and get better than a gas station bathroom and dirty equipment.

That said, the gym is spacious and lots of equipment, which is step about Chuze and LA Fitness. But the cleanliness for me is an issue and my guess is that in time I need to change clubs because of the yuk factor that is slowly creeping in.

Decent gym, decent value, and friendly people and staff. However, the men's bathroom is kinda gross. The area near the urinals needs to be mopped more often. Also, there's usually a small wait to get a squat rack and cables during peak hours. It's be great if they could fit additional equipment to reduce wait times.

If the locker room, a place that is required to be kept clean looks like this, imagine the filth on the machines people are working out on.

-Floors that used to be cleaned daily no longer see a mop or any form of disinfectant.
-Showers that won’t drain leaving standing water that leaks into the locker room
-YES, THAT IS CLUMPS OF HAIR ON THE FLOOR AND WALL
-Ceiling vents that haven’t been touched in months!
-Mold growing on the walls and soap descender!

I usually go to 24 Hr Fitness El Cajon. This gym is a little busier but definitely didn't feel packed. The equipment is way nicer here than El Cajon. The equipment was newer, in working condition and clean.

The only good thing about this location is having new equipments but it’s the worst in customer service. Rude front desk staff , non responsive manager, I have been trying to freeze my membership for medical reason and I have been unable to and when I asked for the corporate phone number, I was told they don’t have one.
