Jennifer is amazing! She is friendly, helpful, very welcoming. She is always making sure there are cleaning supplies on the floor. She refills the stations if needed. That said, I’m giving 4 stars just because many of the treadmills are broken.

They always leave open the doors to the parking garage so the whole place smells like car exhaust. It feels bad/unhealthy to breathe in car exhaust while exercising.

my favorite 24hrf location! left for a year an J did a great job signing me back up at the best price! its a great community and im happy to see many familiar faces after being out of sd for a while. an actual 24 hr gym w all the facilities i need for tri training and strengthening. i keep coming back to it :)) yes some of the bathrooms could use a little servicing, but general facilities like pool and machines are cleaned regularly, and ive been particularly happy with the bathrooms recently! not an easy task to do on a small staff and 24hr operations, so i can't complain!

I’ve always avoided chain gyms, but with my schedule, 24 Hour Fitness ended up being the perfect fit — and this Westfield UTC location absolutely surprised me in the best way.

Jennifer and James took great care of me during sign-up, and Ed gave me a warm welcome with a full tour and even invited me to a member party. The pricing is unbeatable, the vibe is positive, and the customer service was on point. The highlight? Meeting Hunter — a true gem of a trainer who I’m trusting with my health and wellness journey.

Have been going here for 5 years, but I went to “pause” my account for a few months. The employee said there were no fees I would be charged for this pause. However, I’ve been getting charged these last few months. I called the gym recently and they said I cannot be refunded which is unfortunate because I was misled by the employee. I’ve had other issues which this gym has refunded me in the past for but I’m not sure why I was misled and not refunded. It’s unfortunate!

In over a decade of visiting this 24 hour fitness, I've never seen the men's bathroom cleaned. There's urine all over the floor next to each urinal, I wouldn't dare to go in the bathroom stalls, and it smells awful (as you can possibly imagine). I honestly don't know whether the men's bathroom has ever been cleaned since the inception of this gym. For the sake of the women that workout at this gym, I hope that their bathroom isn't as filthy.

Great and fun Gym and great the location!

Been on the up and coming to a whole new vibe and since the new manager came in and has been cleaning it up and growing it! Great staff, friendly (sometimes…just kidding), good people work here now and care about the members and facility. Tony even hooked it up with a good deal on a Gatorade zero! As others have mentioned, believe the one-star reviews. I am in public healthcare and I'm urging you NOT to join this gym. Have been a member here for years and loved it.

It closed during the pandemic and when it reopened, it was as if a switch flipped. No more professional cleaning staff. This meant no more clean floors. Machines are now rusting and caked with a greasy coating of sweat with layer after layer of dirt. Hairy dust-balls the size of a golf ball roll around. Trash everywhere. Filthy women's restroom with MENSTRUAL BLOOD smeared on the floor. At one point, 3 out of the 5 sinks were out of use. Last week, I counted 4 out of the 8 recumbent bikes out of commission. The huge fans have years of filth coating the blades which means they're throwing particulates around that are taken deeply into the lungs as we exercise. Torn upholstery with sharp edges. MRSA anyone?

I could go on and on. I have done Yelp posts, but more importantly, I've spoken with three different managers over the last 3 years and they look at me with glazed eyes. A sign now greets us at the front with "COMING SOON! Be on the lookout for a refreshed facility with blah blah blah..." When asked when it would happen, manager said Summer of 2026.

This place is a health hazard.

I have been coming here 3-6 days a week since Summer 2022 and was a typical sign up with the Costco deal and come in barely a few times a year type when they first remodeled years ago.

That being said, as someone who comes here consistently for serious weight training now, they have the essentials for you to get in a solid bodybuilding or powerlifting workout. I use the dumbbell bench area for Push and am currently at the 100s for chest but if I ever max the 120s I wish they'd at least get more dumbbells that go up to 150s like I have seen at some of the older 24s in SD. Only 2 of the adjustable benches have the pin to adjust lower seat height so I wish they fixed or added pins for the other 2 and replaced the flat only ones with more adjustable ones. For Pull I appreciate the turf area as I'm not taking up the racks for Deadlift and can get my minimum 8 plates with ease to do what I need and like that there's 3 different barbell options (Silver with 3 grip sections, Gray with rougher 2 grip sections, and my favorite Black with 2 grip sections). For Leg I like that they have at least 11 racks of choice from the 4 combined wood section to the 3 individual wood ones inside then 2 old school cages in front of the mirrors and topping it off with the normal one outside under the roof and my favorite nicely used wood one outside. The wood ones do all have a separate Deadlift platform so when it's packed if someone is nice enough to split with you for Squats or Deadlifts. Most everything else is sufficient but the Leg machines and Cable machines do break semi often.

What I don't get is the employees just chill at the front and the men's restroom is disgusting most of the time with the sinks varying water pressure and toilets overall squirting and overfilling. The water bottle fill stations too are all half out of order so clearly something is up with the plumbing in here, so upkeep needs attention. Don't use the hand dry machines as I have seen people stick their wet shoes on there to dry out.

Overall from a lifting standpoint place gets the job done but cleanliness and maintenance is desired. Best gyms I have been in SD when I had access were the Navy and Marine Corp gyms so I wish as tax payers we had access without needing to be military or DoD Contractors or Civilians as those are basically well maintained 24Hs.

I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews of this gym - some seem to be from people who care more about the gym’s aesthetics than a good workout. It might be a little worn down, but the gym has all the equipment I need, is never so crowded I can’t do what I want, and has a cool outdoor turf area. And they’re getting a renovation in a few months so there will be all new equipment. Also, the best personal trainer ever works there - shoutout Mathis he’s helped me fix all my injuries and learn
new exercises.

It was stated explicitly that I don’t have to pay for the 55 dollars annual maintenance fee if I were to use the gym for two months. However, they still took the money out of my account. The staff is nice but this gym has gone down hill rapidly. I have been coming to this location since 2019 and everytime I go it is in worse condition. It is SO hot in the workout area because they don’t run the AC. They only run it in the reception area. Half the ceiling fans don’t work either. About 25% of the equipment is broken. Have you guys ever heard of air conditioning? I would think that a gym of all places would have running AC, but these guys seem to be too cheap to have any.

Impossible to do anything when you're drenched in sweat and no running air at all, even in the cardio rooms theres no cool air or AC. It's embarrassing that they do not see this as a problem.

Men's room has no hand dryers working and place is run down. There were supose to remodel this year and they are already pushing it to next year.

Been a member for over 30 yrs..my favorite master coach is Marianne. She is very dedicated to her craft and her clients. She makes the gym feel like a family. I specifically attend classes that Marianne teaches because of her friendly and positive attitude as well as years of experience. In all, 24 hr fitness(UTC) is a better place because of Marianne's efforts.

Just read the reviews for the past couple years and they are all true. I worked in the UTC mall and tried this gym out for a month. Its one of the most filthy gyms I've ever seen in my life. Weights are everywhere, many machines broken and it looks like the bathrooms haven't been cleaned in 6 months.

Would recommend pretty much anywhere but here. Gave it two stars because you can still get a pump in.

I take modus gx with Marianne and i absolutely love it! The class is amazing because it allows you to work at your own pace, and combining it with Marianne coaching makes it way better, she pushes you to your limits (she knows what you can really lift) and makes sure that you do the exercises the correct way so you don’t injure yourself. Ive been taking that class for 3+ years and it is amazing what it has done to my body and my confidence in the gym, 100% would recommend😊

I would like to leave a better review but this place needs immediate improvement! A professional cleaning is needed immediately. I left early because I was disgusted. I’m sorry guys! The guy at the reception, the small Asian male, he proceeded to say he thought my number could be in the system, I explained I might’ve been to a Planet Fitness . Runs my number then asks me what my name is, but I asked him first who’s on my number because it’s a NEW number for me. There’s no trial passes he then declares abruptly! Wow, why run my info then? So I asked why run my info ? He said , “ oh yeah, sorry…” What? The gym is filthy . I wanted a refund. I might consider removing this review for a refund and if they wipe the floor and machines correctly. Dusty machines and mud in the sauna. Absolutely not. Some machines were turned off , some didn’t turn on at all. I would never pay to join this place. If you’re the manager. How about a refund? No soap in my shower. You toilets are self flushing lots of gallons of water the sensors are not setup correctly . Gum on the floor? Mud on the walls?

This place is disgusting. Dust on tops of equipment, moldy and extremely dirty ventilation grills/ducts, urine all across the bathroom floor, out of order equipment that no attempt made to fix. They shut down the personal lockers because they “lost the key” which is BS as I heard the employee saying they just didn’t want to deal with people losing their locker code, so they just closed them all instead. Lazy staff!!!

They always have 3-4 staff members sitting at the front desk doing nothing. They just sit on their phones and scroll on TikTok. They should make them clean the gym every hour.

I have been to other gyms with much older and used equipment, never see anyone wiping down equipment, however still MUCH cleaner than this 24 hour because they have dedicated cleaning staff.

Dirty, dirty, dirty!!! Believe the many one star reviews, as this is likely the dirtiest, 24 hour club in the nation and I've been to over 120 of them.

None of the repairs get made, in the men's bathroom. The only hand dryers have been broken for months! The bathroom is definitely a health hazard. The swimming suit extractor has been broken for over a year and completely removed, showing that they just said screw it. And so it's wet all over the floors, when people come out of there, swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc. And the MOLD and dirty vents all over, disgusting!!

I finally canceled my membership beginning of June and went to the nearby gym. BEWARE!! These are just quick pictures and for sure check all the vents and the mold especially in the locker room, shower areas, pool, and jacuzzi area, Which then permeates all throughout the gyms AC system.

Extremely Disappointed – This Location Is a Health Hazard

I’ve been to countless 24 Hour Fitness gyms across different cities and have always had solid experiences. So when I found out there was a location just 2 minutes from my house, I was genuinely excited. I signed up for a full-year membership right away because I work out 5 days a week and knew I’d be using it often.

Fast forward 4 months—I’ve gone maybe 10 times. Why? Because this gym is in terrible condition. Every time I go, none of the hand dryers work. The showers are moldy, the sinks are constantly clogged, and so are the urinals. It’s honestly a health hazard. I’m shocked this place hasn’t been reported to the health department yet.

Even if you try to look past the hygiene issues and just get your workout in, good luck—the place is filthy, and half the machines are always broken. And can we talk about the equipment? Why are there so many treadmills and stationary bikes that barely get used? I've never seen even half of them occupied. Meanwhile, there's a serious lack of strength training equipment, which is what a lot of us are here for.

I’m not even a fan of Planet Fitness, but I ended up getting a membership there just because—at the very least—I can wash my hands.

@24hourfitness, can someone please tell me how to get a refund on my membership?

I froze my account due to temporarily relocating to take care of my sick mother. It was supposed to be frozen until December 2025 (which I have an email stating). Well, it went out of my account today. I called and talked to someone on the phone who acted like she couldn’t care less about the situation, and also told me the manager would call me back, which they didn’t. This is the SECOND time in 4 months this gym has taken money out of my account when they weren’t supposed to. Yes, I could easily call back and attempt to talk to a manager again, but I don’t feel like I should have to chase down my refund aswell as a manger. Ridiculous. It’s not even a busy gym, there’s no reason I can’t get a return phone call. At this point, I want my refund, as well as my account canceled because this gym is incompetent and there are much better ones in the area for when I return.

I canceled my membership following my relocation out of state. 6 months later i found out that my membership is still active and I was charged $296 for the annual membership even if I canceled and removed my autopay prior the expiration date. Don't sign up for one year membership upfront. They will charge you for the following years using auto renewal even if you remove the credit card from autopay billing. This is a big scam to keep you locked. The contract's fine print has the autorenewal active until you cancel via call or email. I remember reading a bad review from another customer but i dismissed it saying that i can just remove autopay but it doesn't work. Be aware!!! these corporations gets greedy and keep using any legal loophole or any scam on the book to get you. I tried to defer my membership since i haven't been using it and 24 hours fitness customer service and management do not care. save you $$ and headaches. Find a better gym that will value your business. The sad thing is that i have been 24 hours fitness customer for more than 10 years. Also, i am in general lenient and easy going but this is bad for business. I am going to dispute this scam with my credit card and the business bureau. Hopefully, there will be some corrective actions for these bad practices. Not to late for 24 hours fitness to reach out to resolve this issue and keep their customers and businesses

This 24hour gym is a disaster. The gym is not maintained and extremely filthy. The toilets and sinks have been out of service for weeks. The facility is constantly dirty and there is little to no effort given to clean it. The broken equipment is never fixed and there is no one on staff that seems to care at all. I've been a member of this gym for 5 years. After a couple of years of membership, I was thinking about to get a membership somewhere else as I didn't feel like place was managed properly. And suddenly things started changing. I’ve noticed a real positive change in the facility since Lyndsey took on the manager position. Her dedication and hands-on approach have made a significant difference. It’s clear she genuinely cares about the gym—not just in words, but through consistent action.

Whether it's cleaning restrooms, organizing spaces, or doing tasks that others might avoid, Lyndsey is always doing something to make the place look nicer and cleaner. She's also always willing to help and always with the smile on her face. That's not just my opinion, but most of my friends and GX class participants.

I changed my mind and stayed with this place. Really want Lyndsey to know that her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, and she is sincerely appreciated!

The most vile gym I’ve ever been to. Bathroom looks like a war zone with bodily fluids literally running across the floor. Urinals sometimes literally overflowing with piss. Used toilet paper and all over the floor, and only one functioning sink. The hand dryer has been broken for over 4 years without being fixed. The lockers are all covered in caution tape unable to be used.

The equipment is filthy. Anything you put on the ground will be covered in dirt, hair and trash.

I see the owner responding to reviews telling them to reach out via 24hr’s website so they can ‘take action’.
You shouldn’t need to have anything other than a pair of eyes to see that serious action needs to be taken.

I signed my husband up for a three-day pass for my husband to try the gym, but when he arrived, he was told he had to pay extra because he’s not a resident of San Diego. This was confusing since the website didn’t say anything about extra charges, and I thought 24 Hour Fitness gyms were nationwide. When I called to ask about it, the staff was rude and unprofessional—they yelled at me and spoke to me like I was beneath them. They also hung up on me multiple times when I asked questions or requested to speak with a supervisor. Even when I asked for their names and the supervisor’s contact info, they just hung up. Overall, the tone and treatment were very disappointing and not what I expected from customer service. Shame on you for staff for treating customers that way and to top off to laugh and try to humiliate a member is very unprofessional

I've been going here for over 10 years, only because of location. They continue to remove amenities but still have you pay the same, if not more. It’s so bad it’s bio hazardous - black mold, accumulating dust, dirt, etc. I’ve gotten ringworm from this place twice now. Something in 24 hour’s upper management is being totally neglected, and needs to change.

24 hour went bankrupt during the pandemic and have since been bought by PE firms (Sculptor Capital Investments LLC, Monarch Alternative Capital LP and Cyrus Capital Partners LP) that is clearly just letting it maximize profit and do zero improvements until they can flip it to another company. So it’s likely not the decision of local management or employees to provide a subpar experience.

For $25 a month, it’s an amazing value. If you just use the machines and weights and get some outdoor space it’s fine.

But the bathrooms are disgusting. The showers are disgusting. Not sure I would trust the pool, haven’t used yet. Water fountains are half broken.

Hopefully they improve soon! I messaged the CEO Karl Sanft on LinkedIn to see if there was any hope for a turnaround.

I love coming to this gym but unfortunately it is absolutely disgusting and I cannot recommend it to anyone in good faith. There’s is dust, grime, and more importantly black mold all throughout the gym that the staff either refuses to clean or doesn’t have the resources to do so. I have complained more times than I can count with photo evidence and still no changes. If you care about your health go somewhere else!
