Nice to have a 24 in this area, but some new equipment or even better maintenance of the machines would feel at least up to date. I will call out treadmills for this; there are many that feel like you're running on rocks. There are some that feel like a flat ground but glitch and auto-end your session when it feels like you've had enough. The showers are bleak and smell slimy. Also, the shower floor is lava.
I have not tried all the equipment here so there might be areas of the gym that are better maintained than others.

Cancelled my lifetime membership without any notice, very very shady business been with them for 25 years. What does lifetime mean? Additional lawsuits (then the ones already against 24 hour fitness) on the way.

Reached out to the contact us section of 24 hour fitness with an urgent request, got a generic message 2 weeks later saying my accounts not active and if I want a new one I have to buy a brand new membership. No thanks for the 25 years, nothing.

24 not worth it for the cost look at their competitors in the area for the same cost you can support local gyms, Better equipment cleaner, and no shady big business practices.

Update to owner: as I said in my review if you read it your request for me to reach out to your contact us section is what I've already done. They confirmed to me they cancelled my account - to renew I'd have to pay full price negating our previous "lifetime" contract. If you have something else to tell me you can contact me directly

It's convenient if you want to lift weights and use the ellipticals, but this place is a pain to be in for too long .
• It's very stuffy, as if they don't have any working AC/ventilation . I looked at the thermostat and it was 80 degrees inside of the gym... wayy hotter than what it was outside . It gets so stuffy It's hard to breathe . And it smells really bad. I'll be in there gagging for fresh air.
•It's dirty . With all that heat and no ventilation mixed with people sweating and breathing hard.. I'm positive it's a breeding ground for bacteria. I don't even want to check out the spa here.

I just want to use the weights . It's at a point I don't even want to do cardio in there. Thinking of finding a new gym ASAP. I only haven't because I travel to the bay area often and having a 24 membership has been convenient. But this santa cruz location feels like a health hazard . It's way worse than the worst in san jose .

I feel like I'm going to get impetigo or ring worm here.

I've been a member for years. I signed up for the pool. I'm feeling very frustrated with it lately because they contracted with a swim school. Every weekday, half the pool is taken over by these classes, making it very challenging for swimmers to use the facilities. I have to plan my days around the sun schools schedule, and am limited as to when I can use the facilities, but pay the same membership fee as always. This wasn't the case when I signed up. I really wish there were more gyms in the area that had indoor pools. I would go elsewhere if I could. I hope the management doesn't renew the swim schools contract.

Let me preface this by saying that personal trainers and instructors are awesome, and the main reason to join this gym. The equipment is very good for what I need - but I'm just a beginner, I don't know what more expert people need, tbh.

The main issues I have had have to do with cleanliness and customer service.
Nobody oversees the swimming pool area, therefore I've seen people entering the swimming pool wearing the same sneakers they walked into the gym with; other people wearing a full tracksuit, even!!! Not to mention that the spa often smells like body odor.

In two instances, I asked the front desk for help:
- once, the combination lockers in the locker room were jammed. Answer "oh yeah, they get jammed all the time, it's really hard to reset. Sorry" so I had to get changed in the hallway.

- the other day, we were in the swimming pool waiting for our instructor to start the class, and she didn't show up. So I went and asked the front desk, answer "we haven't heard from her, dunno sorry." Like, don't you have her contact information?! Can't you call her?

I've rarely had such unhelpful customer service.

Since the reopening of this gym after the pandemic, the facility is no longer open 24 hours a day, however that’s okay because the gym still has the same abundance of training options and equipment, pool and spa area, and class options that made me want to join in the first place. The thing that keeps me around is the amazing and dedicated staff that work in the facility. The staff of this place engage with the clientele in a way that feels welcoming, comfortably personal but most of all professional. One particular staff member, Maria, distinctly comes to mind when I think of amiable staff members of the gym. She is always working whether it be cleaning, making sure members needs are met or communicating updates to gym goers, she does it all and more and is in the gym every time I’m there to say hello and make the gym feel like more than just another check box on the to-do list, but a place you wanna hangout at in the evening. I appreciate her work as well as all the other staff and I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a sports club to be apart of.

This is my second year of membership at 24 Hour Fitness / Santa Cruz. I come 3 or 4 days a week and it goes great. It is a well-organized gym.
