Adeline Yoga studio is a gem of a yoga studio on the edge of South Berkeley next to Oakland. Going to AY for the last 4 years has changed my life is so many positive ways. Well since you asked- I LOVE that I can still practice with Anneke even though I have moved. Teaching hybrid canβt be easy but she does it so effortlessly- I always feel watched and included. I learn something from her every week which is so wonderful after so many years. Thank you!

After living abroad for over a decade (and having practiced Iyengar yoga for nearly 25 years) I was seeking my yoga βhomeβ β where would it be with so many studios having closed during the pandemic? I returned to Adeline, a place I had dipped into during summers in the Bay Area. I am so very glad I did β the teachers (especially Anneke, for me), the lovely studio β offering every prop imaginable β the warmth of everyone who works the front desk, the wide array of class levels β both in person and online, class recordings, workshops, and even retreats outside of the studio (usually in amazing places), but, mostly β and most importantly for me β the community. I have found my yoga home. I cannot recommend Adeline enough. Seriously, if you havenβt yet, give it a try.

Adeline is great for all levels and has a very good vib. The instructors are just top noch. Practicing with Anneke now feels like being part of a family and I like the way that she devotes time to give each student some attention even though we struggle with the distance of Zoom. Anneke is a competent and safe teacher and I enjoy her classes."Michale is very good advanced instructor, particularly good at watching the OL group and has great perception. Ruchi is a delite. Her begining class is much more than begining.

Adeline Yoga continues to raise the bar. I love the new studio. The studio is spacious and tasteful. The teachers are from different backgrounds and are very experienced. The amount of care, attention and the teachings truly makes one think about what they can do different in their own lives and how to be a better person.

I am a sometimes practitioner and novice having some knowledge ans significantly positive healing and weight loss while practicing its principles.
The workshop offered opportunity to review and refocus. Presenter was able to present very complex life science in a way that made it accessible and non-dogmatic. Enjoyable and informative with online access to information covered during workshop. EXCELLENT.

The owner was quite rude and hung up on me. For someone who is a yogi and in the community, I was a bit shocked. Is that just the way this place does things? Advice to owner- be nice when you are in the market place selling your services to the world. If you are too busy to answer, donβt answer. How we do one thing is how we do all. Best of luck.

Adeline Yoga Studio is great! I joined in 2019, and when they adapted to the pandemic by offering classes online, it helped ward off the isolation. When life interrupted my capacity to continue, they graciously accommodated and were encouraging when I was able to return. They welcome all, beginners to advanced, all ages, BIPOC, queer, differently-abled. You'll probably find your favorite teachers, but every one of them is fantastic in their own ways. And take a look at their special workshops, too!

Week after week Heather amazes me with the depth of her knowledge of yoga. By combining this knowledge with her intuition she has the ability to see when and where I get stuck in a pose and then to offer guidance that brings me deeper into the pose. I am very grateful for the opportunity to study at this level with such a masterful teacher.

This is some wild, wonderful yoga at 9 on Friday. First, it's the best kind of party. Everyone is glad to see everyone else. Even the people who have never been here before are glad to see everyone else. Then the Asana lessons are totally intense. You get into muscles that you didn't even know you had. And you realize you're working really hard and there's something buoyant happening to your skeleton. Really, this is the tops.

Thank you Adeline for the online classes! Iyengar yoga instructors are the best in recognizing students needs and abilities. How they remember I tend to hyper flex my knees and back I will never know. I've been with Sandy C, Deborah, Sarah, and Shari via Zoom. On the recordings instructors Michelle, Heather, and Anneke are just as valuable. The unlimited monthly price is more than reasonable, and the special workshops keep my practice going and growing!

Adeline Yoga is my favorite place for yoga. It's not an exaggeration to say it has changed my life. I appreciate the great teachers and feeling of community. I value the Iyengar approach. I like the fact that i can attend in studio or on zoom. Easily accessible to Bart, which is a benefit for many of us.
I like in particular "Yoga for Health" class. I love its gentle pace and restorative emphasis. It is a real Iyengar class, but it places more emphasis on a gentle approach, which I find a welcome complement to more active classes.
Also a big fan of Sunday night restorative class. Sandy is an excellent teacher and in particular a very helpful teacher of restorative Iyengar yoga. She gives helpful feedback on our physical postures, as well as guidance on how to approach the mental states involved. Deeply grateful.

Whatever age or physical condition you are in , I encourage you to sign up for Iyengar yoga at Adeline Studio. They teach it in its purest form with in person and online classes. I am 73 years old and in my entire life I never had the experience that I could change the way my body functions or how free I could feel in the way I move or even how amazing my body could look! I had even started having trouble getting out of chairs and was just accepting thatβs what it is to get older. Through practicing at Adeline with their amazing instructors, I am having the experience o returning to what it was like to have the body I had at 40 years old. Iβm not even kidding. The instructors help me bring my attention to parts of my body I never even think about or I forgot I have. Iβm standing straighter, the rounding of my shoulders, moving back, can easily go from being on the floor to standing, getting out of chairs, etc. and basically for the most part, keeping pace with people in class that are half my age. My energy level is greatly improved and I just feel so grateful for their lineup of classes that support just about anybody right where they are at. And I find myself wondering, what would my body and feel look like had I been practicing since Iβm a young woman!
Thank you Adeline, my practice and commitment to truly nourish and nurture myself has become precious to me. At long last.

Adeline Yoga Studio is a lovely, bright, welcoming space for people who want to share yoga classes in person. In addition, many of its classes are available online. The staff is very helpful, with both in-person and online classes.
I'd particular, I highly recommend as instructor Deborah Saliby, whom I've been taking classes from for over five years. She is so skillful in breaking down poses so they are manageable for us in her Healthy Aging classes. She speaks clearly, and from a deep knowledge and love of Iyengar yoga. I feel engaged and energized during and after each class in body and spirit. I love how Deborah's guidance helps me move past my sciatic issues and gain strength, balance, and confidence! And I'm very grateful to her for her online classes that have taken many of us through covid lockdown and beyond.

I feel so grateful to have found Adeline Yoga. After years of increasing chronic pain from an injury, and trying multiple modalities to relieve the pain, I decided to return to yoga after nearly a decade away from my practice. Over the past few months, taking 2 classes per week, the chronic pain has disappeared and I have gotten acquainted with my post injury body. The parameters of what I can do are new, and regular classes on zoom, under the guidance of the expert Adeline teachers have helped me immensely. I highly recommend this studio, and teachers Shari, Deborah, and Sarah, although every teacher Iβve experienced so far has been superb.

I had a yoga solid practice in my 30's, and when my children entered my life (adopted in my 40's) I couldn't or wouldn't or didn't manage to fold yoga into my day. 20 some years later in the fall of 2019, at age 67, leaving my full-time+ job, I was so exhausted, burnt out, stiff, crabby, and achy. I was grieving with a sense of loss, and trying to just buck up. My home life was in tatters. My next door neighbor invited me to attend a yoga class at Adeline Yoga with her. While it was super challenging, something - a memory, a hidden well of energy, a mysterious something - deep within charged its way from body to brain to spirit and lifted me. This was the fresh start I so desperately needed - and this studio offered such authentic, assured, phenomenally well-trained, and knowledgable instructors, and a revered system that was all inclusive and NOT exclusive!. I took the Fundamentals class and from there started my new journey within the many choices for seniors that Adeline offers. And my body and spirit responded!! Despite Pandemic isolation (which forced me to set up a yoga space in my house!!), I felt a sense of community, a sense of purpose, and a new sense that even at my age, I could get my body supple, strong, and functioning again. Enjoy my physical being again, and even enjoy life. Everyday I improved. I started 2-3 times per week, but slowly the rewards were so powerful that I began to practice 5-6 times per week, and eventually graduated to level 1. Now at 70, I literally feel like 50. I have a sense of well-being deep inside - and even with all the difficulties and heartbreaking events that occur in life - the changes, the challenges, the difficult relationships, I feel I can meet these challenges with an inner sense of power and peace. I am so much stronger, more balanced (physically and psychologically) and I have discovered a whole new career option in front of me! The teachers and guides at Adeline Yoga, and the way everyone is trained, and all follow an integrated similar weekly pathway of practice, gives the students foundational support from which to grow and sustain a yoga practice. The authenticity is powerful. At a recent studio blessing, conducted by a Hindu elder (I'm not sure what a Hindu priest would be called, forgive me) a group of multi-generational South Asian women - all students of Adeline Yoga Studio - dressed in saris and stood together at the side of the room participating as well all were in the ceremony/celebration. It struck me as a a testimony to the authenticity of Adeline's lineage from India. I loved being part of a studio that is connected this way to its roots.

Deb Saliby is an excellent teacher. She knows her students well, and is very good at taking into consideration her students' aches, pains, and limitations by offering appropriate modifications to the poses that the class is doing in class. She is also very good at using her words clearly so that I don't have to rely on looking at the computer screen to see what she is doing most of the time. The class itself has a good pace and intensity for me.

Sachiko taught us simple and practical techniques that allowed space and mobility in the areas where we often hold tension. With props and without, I found I had freed up areas in my neck and shoulders that had been stiff and tight for months or longer. Two and a half hours flew by, and I am hoping she will offer a follow up workshop to incorporate forward bends and twists that also concentrate on these areas. The studio is well equipped, feels welcoming and Sachiko is a gifted teacher.

The workshop from last Sunday with Anneke was fantastic as I expected it to be! She takes her role as a yoga teacher seriously. She answered all the questions from students in the studio and online in a clear and professional way. She gave me pointers on the poses we practiced and that helped me understand where I needed to pay more attention in specific part of my body. Just took an online workshop with the fabulous Kelly Sobanski at Adeline Yoga. "Low Back and Hip Healing: Featuring Linear Poses" . I have had problems with low back pain for years and Kelly is so very knowledgeable and caring. She listens and helps and explains accordingly. It was a great sequence and came with lots of explanations which made so much sense. There was some anatomy too, to make it clearer. My back felt better after the workshop and I learned a lot I can incorporate into my practice.

I can't rave enough about Adeline Yoga. At Adeline you learn safe and proper form from high caliber instructors who are invested in getting to know you and your body. If you have injuries or disabilities, the teachers will show you how to modify poses to improve, heal, and/ or accommodate limitations, which let's face it, we all have to some degree. The studio has a warm, non-competitive, non-trendy, local-community atmosphere while also being connected to the broader lineage and international community of Iyengar Yoga. It is an oasis of well-being, and though not mandatory, it also provides opportunities to deepen and grow a spiritual/ scholarly connection to yoga if that is a calling.

Adeline Yoga is a gem! Rewarding classes with experienced instructors who make sure each person feels supported. I can feel improvements on my posture and strength after just a couple of classes!
They teach great poses and techniques to bring yoga into your daily movements - even office friendly moves for breaks from sitting all day. They sell props like blocks, straps and bolsters to support your at-home practice.
Itβs kinda magical how it builds confidence in understanding your body-my first class ended with a shoulder stand! A SHOULDER STAND! I was so intimated and opted out! But months later, I got the pose for the first time and feel such a sense of pride.
Very glad I found this gem of a yoga studio!

If I could give Adeline Yoga more than 5 stars I would! I joined the studio a little over two years ago and have been taking 2-3 classes per week ever since. I feel stronger, more flexible, and have a greater body awareness. Although the studio is physically open and I live two miles from there, I have exclusively taken zoom classes and though I was skeptical at first about whether this would work for me since I was a complete yoga novice, I have received excellent feedback. I greatly appreciate the access to hybrid, online, and in-person classes offered by Adeline. It enables access for vulnerable folks during our ongoing pandemic, something that is becoming (unfortunately) increasingly harder to find. This is my first Iyengar studio. I've found the practice and Adeline's instruction to be much more accessible than other forms and studios I've attended in the past. In Iyengar yoga class, we observe the teachers, we imitate, and we repeat, repeat, repeat. All the teachers at Adeline are exceptional- they integrate the yoga practices with the yoga principles which they have a vast knowledge of.
As a result, first, you begin to see changes in yourself on the physical level. Over time, the practice goes much deeper and you find that you can draw from the power of the teachings outside of class, in all sorts of situations. Dedicated practice with master level teachers has taken me closer to understanding who I am.

I adore this studio. This was my first introduction to Iyengar yoga, and I learned so much. During my very first in-person class, when we chanted three 'oms' to start, it was so moving that I was hooked. I enjoyed how personable and high-quality the instruction was, as well as the attention to detail and precision. Iyengar's use of props provided an ample number of modifications to accommodate my strong but inflexible body. What a beautiful studio and community. As a Black, androgynous, plus-size person, I immediately noticed how all bodies and ages and folks were welcome and uplifted here. The studio also deeply honors yoga's East Asian and Indian roots all throughout its programs. Deeply grateful that I was able to practice and grow here during my last few months in the Bay Area, and I look forward to practicing Iyengar yoga in my new city.

I wanted to send you a note of gratitude. Being able to have yoga classes online during covid was a life saver! I have been βdoingβ yoga for many years, but this is the first time it has ever become a practice for me, much gratitude to your amazing studio. During covid, I visited online at least 20 studios across the US and Adeline was the most warm and welcoming. The instructors greet you individually especially when you are new, ask for feedback or questions and really try to monitor the screen to assist each individual. I cannot give enough praise to the culture of Adeline Yoga Studio which in my experience comes from the person in charge. Many, many thanks!

I highly recommend Yoga for Life or Sadhana Studies for anyone that is ready to deepen their practice and truly transform. See you on the mat :)

Adeline Yoga is a wonderful yoga studio with incredibly knowledgeable teachers, numerous class offerings and workshops, and a well priced membership model. I began taking regular online classes here at the beginning of the shelter in place in mid-March 2020. Booking classes is super easy using the mind body app or online. I appreciate how thoughtful Adeline Yoga has been in navigating the last year+ in terms of offering in person classes (vax only), outdoor classes and continuing to expand online/zoom classes.

After doing a variety of yoga styles with a variety of teachers for decades, I discovered a teacher I really liked who was rooted in Iyengar yoga, but she was the only one at the studio I was attending. I wanted more Iyengar yoga - lots more. A friend recommended Adeline Yoga Studio where I started with the Fundamentals series 3-4 years ago and never looked back. I love the focus and attentiveness that Iyengar yoga asks of us as we practice asana, and I have also found a home for the study of yoga philosophy and spiritual growth. The teachers make the practice welcoming, accessible and safe for all levels and abilities. The studio is well-managed with an eye towards inclusion and generosity. This is a great community wrapped in a truly special studio.

As an Iyengar Yoga teacher and deeply committed student, I am exceptionally discerning regarding my own yoga practice. With Zoom classes now available, like never before, I have come to find that Adeline is, without question, one of the best yoga studios in the entire country! The teachers are exceptionally knowledgeable, the offering of classes numerous & varied, and, important to me, the business is exceptionally well-run and could be a model for other yoga studios to emulate.
Thanks Adeline!
In kindness,
In gratitude,
Juli K.

Adeline Yoga is the hub for Iyengar Yoga in the East Bay. There are classes offered that meet just about every need: beginners, intermediates, advanced students; vigorous; restorative; spiritually nurturing; pranayama. In addition, there is warm and enthusiastic community involvement. Five stars!

Adeline is an excellent yoga studio, both for beginners and seasoned practitioners. The studio vibe is very warm, open & welcoming. They have all the props you need, the teachers are all well trained (the average Iyengar teacher undergoes 3-5 years of training & hundreds of hours before taking their assessment and receiving their qualification as a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher.) Before each class the teachers always ask their students if they have any medical issues or physical limitations that might affect the students practice, and then offer well thought out modifications tailored to address these issues.
The owner, Heather, & the teachers truly care about their students and are focused on making each class as fulfilling as possible. This a studio where you can drop in occasionally, or make it your lifetime yoga home. Iβve trained at dozens of yoga studios and keep returning to Adeline, even though itβs a 3 hour round trip from home. During the pandemic they have around 60 online classes a week, and will probably continue with some type of online presence once things return to normal.
If youβre new to Iyengar yoga, donβt be intimidated. Itβs Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on aligning your bones & muscles with the use of props to help you ease into your pose with correct form and without undue strain. The teachers always take time to explain which props might be helpful & often offer several alternatives, depending on the students personal needs. Adeline has lots of programs for beginners and their instructors always find the time to give learning students individual advice & encouragement.

Adeline is a great yoga studio. I've always been partial to the Iyengar lineage and at Adeline Yoga they hold very true to that tradition. There are plenty of props and the instruction is absolutely top notch.

Anneke Faas is an exceptional yoga instructor. She really is attuned to the individual needs of her students. For example, she instructed the class to take Pashchimottanasana (intense stretch of the west), which was strenuous on my lower back; plus, my hamstrings are very tight. When she noticed that I was struggling, Anneke specifically instructed me to take a simple cross-legged forward fold (Adho Mukha Sukhasana), taking my hamstrings out of the equation and allowing me to really stretch my lower back and hips safely and enjoyably. Anneke suggested other variations and adjustments throughout the class when needed. I really appreciate how Anneke authentically pays attention to her students' needs.

Yoga with hypermobility can be dangerous, but I always feel supported in listening to my body in Vincent's class. This place has convinced me that Iyengar Yoga is a good path for me.

Love this studio! I really enjoy the disciplined and meticulous instruction of the Iyengar approach. Only wish might be for a bigger studio as it is getting jam packed in there more often as word gets out about how great you guys are!

Adeline Yoga gets 5 stars for the Yoga and the Teachers! The instructors and the helpers are all great. I take Level 1 classes, almost always with Anneke Fas, who I love. She's super knowledgeable, kind, open, light-hearted. My sports medicine doctor told me to start doing Iyengar Yoga after I tore my meniscus (and other things in my knee and calf) to get me in tune with my muscles, and to bring greater balance to my entire body. I avoided going to Iyengar classes for awhile but now I'm a convert. Iyengar Yoga practitioners are bad-asses and chill and cool and the Adeline studio is a great community.

Here yoga is customized to your needs, not a one size fits all class. I really learn how to take care of myself in class so I can practice safely at home. Morning, afternoon and evening classes to fit most any schedule.

I am very grateful for Adeline Yoga Studio. I'd never considered yoga and an acquaintance Heather Haxo Phillips told me she taught yoga at this studio. After being laid off I decided to walk over to their Friday low-cost "Community Class". A smart decisions. I've found Heather to be a great teacher. As a rank novice I've found strength and confidence from my new found yoga practice. After about a year, I started attending the owner Chris Williams' intermediate classes on Saturday morning. In addition to my poses and health improving, I've found the studio to be a nexus of neighbors, it is really a center of a good community.
While traveling I attended two yoga classes at an out of town studio. At Adeline Yoga Studio the teachers are in the Iyengar tradition, this out of town studio was some other style. Though it was a nice studio, it made me really grateful that I'd fallen into the Iyengar tradition of yoga. Your Mileage May Vary, but the studio has done wonders for me.
The best secret at the studio is Vince Valente's Thursday morning class. It is an early 8:00 A.M., but nothing has me more energized and ready for a day then that early morning practice. (He should teach more often!)
Give the low-cost "Community Class" on Friday morning a try, I recommend it.
