I’ve always enjoyed being active, but strength training was something I did grudgingly—barely challenging myself so I could check it off. Then I found Ageless Strength & Fitness through a ClassPass trial, and after one session I was hooked. James somehow manages to keep even the most excuse-prone clients motivated and on track. He’s positive, patient, fun and makes every workout feel doable—even when it’s hard. I’m now in week 7 and already feel much stronger, amazed at how much weight I can lift thanks to his guidance and focus on form. Shockingly, I actually look forward to these sessions! You really can't go wrong with James or Jiesyl as a trainer—I HIGHLY recommend this team!!

I was able to attend as a guest with a family member and I had a great experience with Jiseyl. She took her time to explain things to me and ensure my form and safety took priority. This became especially apparent when my workout was complete and my lack of caloric intake caught up with me in the worst way; yup….total puke show…in the lobby. I felt embarrassed and weak and was met with nothing but professionalism and compassion by Jiseyl and fellow trainers that took time to check in and offer their support.
Any abilities, needs, and athletic goals feel welcome and understood here. Go check her out…you won’t regret it.

I spent a few months after first moving to
La Mesa looking for a new gym through ClassPass. After I attended a few small group classes with James and Jiesyl, I cancelled my ClassPass subscription because I knew I finally found my permanent gym.
I really enjoy working with Ageless Fitness personal training because I have an old shoulder injury that made powerlifting like I used to too painful. James and Jiesyl helped me work my way back into strength training with no pain issues. Finally beat my old pre shoulder injury deadlift max. Come here if you need someone to help you get to your fitness goals at your own pace. Also you might get to pet Hugo (a very good boy).

💯 recommend Jiesyl and Hugo as training partners. She worked with my limitations offering fresh ideas to still get a great workout and modify exercises as needed. I felt heard and safely physically challenged, something I have really struggled with since my injury and extensive surgeries and physical therapy. I cannot recommend Jiesyl enough! She is the MOST encouraging coach and will work with you to find different ways to adapt your workouts to your injuries. I'm always reminded by her that motion is lotion and to never stop moving. Let me preface this by saying I have never been a gym person. I’m a 48 year old woman who has always been in relatively good shape. However in the past couple of years I have felt not like myself. I am always in pain and injure myself with every activity I do. I realized I need to begin strength training but I have felt lost on doing that. James has been great. He’s very kind, knowledgeable and down to earth. He really pays attention to me as I’m doing different exercises and checks in to make sure I’m not feeling pain. He adjusts where need be and I love the pace of his sessions. They don’t feel overwhelming yet I don’t feel that I’ve had a very good workout. I’m so grateful to have found him!

In my late 60s, I began training with James in person and made rapid progress in strength, balance, and posture. We moved to online training during the pandemic. And then I took a 2-year break. Feeling that I was losing ground, I started back with James online. Quickly, I began to increase in balance and strength, and I'm so pleased with this progress. James is patient with me, adjusts routines to accommodate my abilities and mental attitude. He is always positive, encouraging me forward. I have been attending group classes at Ageless Strength for a few months. I love that the classes are kept small because you get individual attention. James is a great trainer who pushes/challenges me every single time I train with him. He pays attention to ensure my form is correct as well as making sure I am lifting weights that are challenging for me.
I have attended many gyms/group classes throughout SD. Unfortunately many trainers at many gyms are just “time keepers” because there is a cookie cutter workout and trainers just “keep moving you” throughout the workout. This is not my experience at Ageless Strength. James can/will modify any given workout to the person he is training. I love feeling challenged but at the same time supported throughout my entire workout.

Couldn't be happier with these guys. As the new year started, I decided to become stronger and healthier and part of that was to start a strengthening routine with a personal trainer. James replied to my inquiry almost immediately and set up an appointment for us to discuss my goals. I've been training with them for five months or so, three times a week. The workouts are excellent; the trainers are friendly and encouraging; and I have seen good results. As someone who has never gone to the gym, I was so happy to have guidance. I feel stronger and more confident as weeks go by.
Another great aspect of Ageless Strength is that they offer tiered pricing options for different budgets, which is accessible and affordable. They also provide excellent nutrition services, which I wasn't expecting. (It was complimentary for the first month!) I learned about portion sizes, plating food, and nutrition in general.
Ageless Strength training takes place in a gym in La Mesa. The gym is only for personal trainers and their clients -- everyone is respectful there, they keep the space super clean, and overall good energy from everyone.
I highly recommend Ageless Strength & Fitness for anyone, at any age, looking to become stronger, healthier and more confident.

Been working with James and the other Ageless Fitness trainers for about a year now, and it’s been an all-around great experience. The workouts are excellent, and everyone that I’ve worked with has been friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable. When I started working with James I had knee pain, back and hip pain, and shoulder issues. Plus I had lost a ton of strength and flexibility over the Covid lockdowns. Being in my forties, I was worried that getting fit again would be a real struggle. James designed and led me through a wide variety of workouts and was always attentive to my injuries or discomfort, suggesting variations any time I had difficulties. The small group workouts are fun and effective and never feel repetitive. A year later, I feel better than I have in at least a decade, and it’s entirely thanks to James and the AF crew!

I’ve been attending a group fitness class with James at Ageless Strength & Fitness. To be honest, I think it’s the first group strength training class I’ve ever taken and I was a bit intimidated to try it out. However, I found that the group setting creates a lot of camaraderie and fun. James keeps things on track, not wasting our time or his. He keeps an eye on each person to correct their form, and also offer motivation when needed. He doesn’t let people goof off, but at the same time allows us to have a good time. It’s been a great experience getting back in shape and it was exactly what I needed.

Stop your Google search because ageless is the place to go. Not only are the trainers amazing and I'm not using that word loosely they are truly amazing. They care for your well being, and getting to know your strengthsamd weaknesses. If you have any injuries they modify the workouts to strengthen and improve the aches and pains. James is a very genuine person with a great sense of humor, but he takes working out seriously in his word if you have great posture and the exercise looks effortless you get rewarded with more weight. As a mom of three under 2 who is 7 months post-partum, I never thought I'd be able to find a place that would be able to accommodate my schedule let alone that I'd be able to lift weights, but this whole month of going to workout 2x a week has showed me that it is possible with the right trainers and as James said when I first met him it's about showing up and being consistent. If i could give more stars I'd give them in a heartbeat this place will not disappoint.

It's hard to tell you what is good about my trainer James without explaining what he had to work with (me). He had a client who was a couple weeks off covid-19 with a bum leg and lots of injuries over the years that slowed him down.
James pushed but never too far. He made sure the workout would be felt and that there was slow but steady progress. As a client, I wish I could have gotten farther but that's on me and my body not James. Whenever one of my injuries got in the way, he adjusted our adapted the exercise. I'm definitely better than when I first started.

Coach James is a great trainer! His style is personable and energetic! He gives great encouragement and provides workouts that are always enjoyable! I love the variety of workouts he has ready so that it’s never boring. Choosing to make a lifestyle change is not easy to do alone so it’s always nice getting extra support, knowledge and encouragement from someone else.

James is very easy going trainer. He’s super knowledgeable and attentive throughout the training session. I was a little unsure of the personal training process having always worked out on my own but when my fiancé started training with James and loved the workouts I gave it a try and to my surprise I also loved the workouts. He’s like having a gym buddy that knows all the workouts for different body parts, keeps the workouts challenging yet doable and isn’t annoying. I also like the fact that he incorporates lifting and strength training as well as cardio. Overall I’ve had a great experience training with James and I would definitely recommend him to everyone.

Coach James of Ageless Fitness is attentive and genuinely concerned about his client's individual needs and goals. He is encouraging, efficient with your training sessions, and provides a sense of community. This is specific, client focused, training and nutrition counseling. It is not a general, boiler plate workout that will not assist you with your goals or worse, injure you. Will you do things you do not like?...yes...(i.e. @#$% assault bike)...but have fun knowing you are making gains and progressing.

I have been working with James since July and I have loved the experience. Since I have started with him I have learned so much about nutrition and weight training he has pushed me to do workouts I would not have attempted on my own and when we are in our sessions his encouragement makes you really want to lift heavier and work harder. I have recommended him to anyone who will listen and really look forward to our sessions every week and his Saturday group classes.
James is a great coach and a great motivator.

I came to James with very specific needs. I am approaching 40, I have had three children which resulted in me having chronic hip problems, and to be transparent I am also an eating disorder survivor of 14 years. I have done a lot of harm to my body and have made the necessary steps to improve my health both inside (therapy) and out. With that said I was very open with what I needed and my boundaries. Not only was he incredibly supportive and understanding but was excited that I wanted to share this journey with him. I can’t do scales. I can’t do measurements. I am a full time, two job working mom of three teenagers and I consistently face motivation obstacles, yet every week he has the right patience and encouragement to keep me going. He never bugs me about what I’m eating and he is real. He gets that life happens. He gets that life is also about enjoyment, not obsessing over exercises or food but striving to be the best person you can be by working towards goals and not giving up. I am very fortunate to have met James and I hope we can be gym pals for a really long time! I would also like to add that he incorporates aspects of our lives into the workouts such as “Carrying the groceries” or “Slamming the ball to get out the frustration”. He brings humor to workouts and genuinely cares to get to know you as a person instead of just a paycheck. We’re not lab rats running in a wheel, we still need to learn how to have fun while we work towards our goals or else we’re more likely to go back to bad habits. Thanks James for teaching me!

James is truly great at what he does. Training with him is fun and I worked hard, in the most beneficial ways. He checked in on me often and his focus was on my overall health and not just physical. Encouraging me and to pay attention to my body, the importance of adequate rest, and hormonal changes. Any changes we would discuss and tweak my program according to my needs that week or month. We would focus on long term goals but also set some fun short term goals like doing my first unassisted pull-up, or hitting a new PR, because he knows that having those in site are good motivators for me. I can’t wait to set new goals with him and keep progressing.

Being able to train with James was amazing. He helped me build confidence in working out and just in general. He was always very welcoming and kind but pushed you to be your best. James always had a good, positive energy. He always makes sure your technique is correct to avoid injury. One of my favorite times is when James let us chose the music and we worked out to the Spongebob soundtrack. Overall, James is an amazing strength coach who has a lot of passion for what he does!

After struggling to reclaim my physical fitness, I decided to make a change and began working with James as a nutrition and fitness coach...what a game changer he is! I really appreciate his philosophy around food and that he takes the time to explain his reasoning and share literature on healthy eating. He constantly seeks feedback to ensure I'm getting the most out of my workout programming and has created workouts that are challenging, interesting and fun. His how-to videos take the guess work out of new movements and I know I can always reach back out to him to get additional feedback or answers to questions on my form.
