Earlier this year, I was in a rut. Sitting all day, working from home, low energy, feeling alone and hopeless in my journey to be stronger and healthier. Someone close to me suggested I try weight training or getting a personal trainer. I was overwhelmed at the prospect of trying to find a good spot for me, but luckily, probably through the algorithm working in my favor for once, I immediately landed on the Aion Training website. I wanted to be at a place where I felt comfortable, where I felt confident and safe to struggle and strive without judgment. I signed up to visit and immediately loved what I saw. I signed up to attend small training sessions and I haven't looked back since. The year is almost over, and this has, hands down, been the best thing I have done for myself this year, heck, in a very long time. I feel good, my energy and mood has improved, and I found a wonderful community in Aion. I highly recommend Aion training!

I’m 78 years old and have worked out most of my life. Since I had back surgery about four years ago, I have not been working out.
I have always prided myself on being and staying in shape. Lucky for me about six weeks ago, I saw Aion’s sign and investigated.
The staff and assistants are professional, knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful.
Their primary purpose is to challenge you while respecting any limitations that you may have (age included).

Wanted to drop a formal apology for not being able to do this in person with the amazing members I got to know. The news of being let go was very unexpected, but getting the chance to know you all (team & member alike) was truly wonderful. I have been going to the small classes at this gym all summer. I have arthritis in my knees and hips. The trainers have helped me modify some of the exercises to both strengthen my muscles, and to avoid stress on my joints. I appreciate the individual attention and the supportive members. Update to my original review:
Soon, I'll have been a member of Aion Training for three years. My wife saw how positive the experience was for me, and she joined and has been there for over a year now.

I'm 55 years old now. Compared to just three years ago, I am stronger. I am in far better shape for simple everyday things like climbing multiple flights of stairs instead of taking an elevator. Most important: I feel more confident that I will retain a stronger, healthier body as I get older.

It's not that I never have setbacks. At one point, I strained a muscle in my arm. At another point, my knee started giving me trouble. The important thing is, in response to these things, the amazing coaches at Aion worked closely with me to modify my workouts and perfect my form to mitigate discomfort and strengthen vulnerable areas to protect me from a recurrence. It works!

Now here's my original review, all of which still applies:

I spent the first 50-ish years of my life vacillating between being active and fit, and overweight and sedentary. Dieting had me losing weight and then gaining it all back, and then some. At 40, I worked with a personal trainer who got me in great shape but weighed me weekly and shamed me whenever I gained a pound or two. Then, parenthood happened and I stopped exercising altogether. By the time the COVID lockdown ended, I could hardly make it up a single flight of stairs. I was in the worst shape of my life, and scared for my future. But I always had excuses: too busy, no time, and worst of all: why bother because I know I'll just let it go again?

Then one day, I was walking down Colorado Blvd. when Aion Training's sign caught my eye. A gym for people 40+? And only a short walk from my workplace? I had no excuse not to try.

Marcus, the owner, was welcoming, non-judgmental, and had a straightforward sense of confidence that I could get fit and improve my life if I just... showed... up. Over the two years I've been a member, I've come to know the coaches and many of my fellow clients, and to appreciate the sense of community that's been created. The coaches have a positive energy and, during my semi-private (small group) workouts, there's an amazing level of personal attention to check my form, offer advice, and encourage me to push past where I was last week.

It's a long game, and the folks at Aion Training know it. My plan is to be with them for the long haul. I highly recommend that you set up a consultation if this sounds like it could be a good fit for you.

I had initial reservations of joining a gym, as I did not have much strength training experience, and was trying to rehab from a hyperextended knee. With three months in, those reservations are completely gone. The planned workouts are well-organized and the coaching staff is encouraging and knowledgable. I wanted to make sure (and especially with strength training) that I was executing the reps with proper technique/form and the staff was there to do so, plus make tweaks when necessary. I especially enjoy the community as the workouts can get difficult, but we manage to push through together. There is a special group of people here, and I am privileged to be a small part of it!

I joined a year ago after going on a trip to Paris. I had gotten so tired from normal Parisian walking and stair climbing that I realized, “This won’t do.” I’m one of the elder members, from a tradition of HATING P.E. But here the emphasis is on the positive—what you can do now and how to grow it for tomorrow. The coaches are patient and they want you to succeed. I can’t say enough great things about this gym!! I absolutely LOVE it! Their tag line is “Just Show Up” and it is really just that. You show up, the workouts are already designed and you get real results with them. They constantly are changing the workouts so you definitely do not get the same ol’ thing. The group sizes are small too, and the coaches are extremely well tuned in to what each person needs, and they provide great instruction to ensure you’re doing everything correctly and avoiding chance of injury. If you need something tailored more for you, they can also provide/address that need. I gave this gym a try not realizing it would be my forever gym. I can’t say enough about the support you get from the coaches too. They really are great, and the comradery from the other members is so positive and supportive. I have gained muscle mass and lost some weight. These coaches are always available to us and help you navigate through your journey of better health. They’re genuinely in it for the long haul for our better health. I can’t brag enough about this gym!!

I joined Aion less than 3 months ago because a friend offered me two weeks free during buddy week. I was game. Good thing too. I have started feeling the effects of aging in recent years. I took the two weeks free as a sign that I need to do this. I've got a ways to go before I'm "in shape," but I'm already noticing positive changes. Getting up off the floor is no big deal again just like when I was pre-middle age. Coaches are super nice. There's a real feeling of community that I really like. A Truly Remarkable Experience at Aion Training

As a busy woman in my 50s with a demanding schedule, I rarely take the time to write reviews—even when something truly deserves recognition. But I’m making an exception for Aion Training in Pasadena because the experience has genuinely been life-changing.
Years ago, I injured myself from over-exercising and had a couple of bad falls. My knees never fully recovered. Every time I tried to return to physical activity—even light jogging or mild workouts—I’d end up in deep pain, which would stop me in my tracks. For years, I kept putting it off, thinking it just wasn’t possible for me anymore.

Then I found Aion Training.

In just about six weeks of being here, I’ve overcome my fear of reinjury, worked through the pain, and started to feel strong again—especially in my legs. What made the difference? Personalized attention, a deeply caring approach, and a supportive environment where you truly feel seen and understood. It’s not just about working out—it’s about healing and growing.

What I love most is the community. There are people like me—over 40, juggling work and life, some dealing with injuries or time constraints—and they’ve been showing up consistently for years. That kind of consistency is inspiring, and the trainers at Aion make it achievable.

Sessions are a solid, full hour of movement—thoughtfully designed and intentional. At the same time, there’s flexibility. Whether you can go once a week or several times, they’ll work with your schedule. Honestly, it’s worth every penny and every trip to Pasadena.

Been going to Aion Gym for over 2 years The structure of the semi-private classes is divided between mobility and strength exercises, weight training, and endurance portion. Into my 3rd year with Aion and Marcus and his crew (and the fabulous Coach Felicity). My goal was modest: “Just Show Up” (because I sit at my desk for almost 9 hours/day). Highly Recommend! I have been training here for the last month and it has been a wonderfully rewarding experience. At first, I honestly thought that the exercises were not enough to make a difference. I thought I should be going 100 miles a minute, like I did in my 20’s. Then watched how I struggled to get off the floor, and how winded I am, and realized at this age, nope I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Lol! The trainers are fun and uplifting. We had a nutrition class last month and it was very helpful too. As I figure out how to get rid of this 20 lbs, I’m excited to have found Aion and its community of Aionites! Marcus and trainers have helped this 63 years young lady thru two bad injuries.
I was able to rehab a broken knee( body surfing accident) and recently rehab a rotator tear( 40 years a nurse) . The trainers came up with amazing plans to keep me in shape and help mobility… this Oma loves that she can easily chase 4 grandsons and lift them with no problems..

I have been going to Aion twice per week for over six months. At 76 I am healthier and in better physical shape that I have been in many years. I have an exercise routine that Marcus designed specifically for me based on the goals I discussed with him at my first session which he modifies as I progress. It takes into account my significant lower back issues and has even resulted in some improvement there. I have lost a few pounds and inches from my waist, and have gained some muscle. Aion works because Marcus and his great group of trainers have created an environment that is family-like, where everyone supports and encourages each other. We train together, laugh together, and share our successes. Aion members cover a wide range of ages and come in all shapes and sizes. UPDATE:Aion is a family. Coach Marcus makes you feel comfortable while working out. Corrects you, should you not do something correctly, so you don't get hurt. He is always watching out for you.
During Covid Marcus immediately had us on Zoom and being consistent. Not gaining weight during the past year and a half has been a huge relief and the strength training is amazing. I never thought at 60 I would be lifting weights, trap bar at 135lbs and bench pressing. I enjoy it way more than i thought I would.
UPDATE 9/25/2024 NOW at 64 training with Shawn and have increased my weight lifting all around. Shawn has been hiking and I've been lucky enough to join him. Always pushing you to do your best, for YOU! If an exercise isn't working for you be always has an alternative. You are never sitting it out.

My wife and I began training here at the beginning of COVID to increase our health and from the start, Marcus and his team have always put our safety in masking and outdoor training protocols at the forefront of helping us get stronger and more flexible.

They check in regularly on how our plans are going and adjust as necessary to help us reach our goals. I highly recommend Aion to anyone, but especially those of us over 40 to join us. It's a great atmosphere to get stronger in!

Update for 2024 - It's been four years now and all the above shows the character of the gym and trainers, but I want to also add that in the past couple years, there's also been an emphasis on the mental part of getting stronger.

The combination of mental and physical conditioning has paid huge dividends in day to day life when I need to lift something heavy.

There's a confidence that comes with knowing proper form, but also understanding when to lift alone, when to get help, and when to defer.

Attending classes here has been nothing but a great experience. The training routine has been great. Each month brings new fitness challenges and a well balanced work load. My biggest concern is maintaining form and proper technique while working out and the coaches, especially Coach Shawn, take their time to make sure everyone is performing all aspects correctly and efficiently. If you are looking for a group workout experience that feels like family, this is definitely the place!

Effective workout, personal attention, lively energized environment, and the benefits of working out in a “ team” environment. It’s all there. This place specializes in workouts for people over 40, and I’ve seen age ranges from early 30s to mid 70s working out alongside me.

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a more effective set of workouts and eagerly looked looked forward to my next one like with this place.

As someone who has NEVER been athletically inclined, I joined AION for health benefits more than anything 10 months ago. It's been one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

The environment is very positive in a normal way and the trainers are excellent. Especially when it comes to working with your individual physical limitations. They also push you to be your personal best in a way that's encouraging without any short of shaming. Classes are flexible and constantly change so there's always something new to learn. This February will mark three years at Aion and cannot say enough great things about how it has changed my life.
I was diagnosed with Stage I kidney disease with 40% kidney function prior to beginning training at Aion. Last week my nephrologist gave me the news that my kidney function is up to 72%. I owe a good portion of that positive change to the work I do 4-5 days a week at Aion. A strong work out regimen created by the amazing trainers, having learned how to eat better along and the amazing support of my "Aion Family" has made a big difference in my daily life.

I started taking semi-private fitness classes twice/week at Aion about 8 months ago, and I am so glad I found this gym. I had worked with a personal trainer elsewhere for about a year before the pandemic (which I liked a lot), but then hit a hard stop in March 2020 due to COVID and never got back to the gym. By December 2023, I knew I had to do something to get in shape and when I found Aion, it sounded perfect for me. So I tried it out and it has been great. I am getting a little stronger every month and I really appreciate the well-thought out workouts that include a balanced set of exercises to improve strength, stability and flexibility, and over time all muscle groups get worked. I simply could not get that by working out on my own! As others have noted, the coaches are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and very supportive. And the other members are all friendly and encouraging. One thing I didn’t anticipate is that these workouts really help me manage stress levels. So, I join others in saying please try out Aion if you want to take care of yourself and join a supportive community while getting in shape!

I can't say enough about how great this place is.

I have a condition that makes my joints and muscles prone to tears, and I had doctors telling me to both AVOID exercise and GET exercise. I had no idea what to do until I found this place online.

Each class is small enough to make sure you get individual attention, and the coaches are experts in proper form and exercises you can do to build strength, flexibility and endurance as safely as possible.

It's obvious how much thought and consideration you all put into running this gym and building a community. Most importantly, I can feel how you all genuinely care and want to help us all to feel better about our health.

My personal gym experience: I haven't been to a gym in 20+ years. After 3 kids, Covid and diabetes, I had to stop slacking. My cousin and aunt introduced me to Aion when they had free tryouts during Mother's Day. I didn't know what to expect but I showed up, and Marcus was there on my first day. He knew my name, walked me through the types of exercises and we just chatted about my health goals. No hard sales pitch, just a fun person to talk to - I didn't even know he was the owner!

Shawn, who is my main trainer, is a fantastic, knows his stuff (ELDOAs anybody?) and is always engaging and encouraging people. I have nerve damage in my neck and a pinched nerve for over a month. Shawn adjusted my workout and taught me different movements to loosen up my muscles. He also sends a positive, personal message after each workout. Just for you Shawn - "Shawn is the most handsome trainer!"

Also due to my work schedule, travel and kids, I think I've tried every type of session they offer. I also circled through most the coaches, each with their own unique coaching style and music taste!

I have been going to Aion for over a year and a half, three times a week. I have never been motivated to work out this regularly and consistently in my life. When I belonged to a large chain gym years ago, I never really used weights because it felt intimidating and there was no one to ask questions. The Owner used to be a great guy and trainer until money got to his head. He was just 21 yrs old coming out of college that took over a lot of clients from another gym when the owner moved to another state. The owner has given thousands of dollars to a money making Pyramid. What a joke
He's Never at the gym and if he is, he doesn't do ANY client training. Always in his office or not even there. Advertises a 40 and over gym. Kind of stupid to only cater to over 40 crowd when you can train any age. These older people are paying way too much for the exercise they are getting. Its cheaper at other private gyms. We quit because he doesn't listen to the client needs. Only open limited hours. Every one has a "work out plan" that you have download on your phone. 1 trainer to 7 or 8 clients isn't safe especially if they're old. No one really watching your form . It took literally 30 min just for warm up because we have to keep looking at our phones trying to figure out the exercises and if we didn't know what it was, we had to watch a you tube video on the actual exercise. Some trainers didn't know the exercise either and had to call him because as usual, he's never there. A Waste of time and money
Highly Do not recommend this gym. Instead of listening to what your client needs and try to learn or fix it, he just charges you more. So many clients have left and the ones that are there are too scared to leave. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes. You gotta put in the hard work, because that's how a business becomes successful. Listen to your clients, be present, offer more classes and a way for your clients make it worth the money instead of just taking it. If a client is gone for 3 wks on vacation, there is no way to make up missed days, you just get charged for the next month and the gym is only open very limited hours and no weekends.

This place is a joke. The owner totally ignores his clients, never bothers to train them, always on pyramid scheme trips or he is in his office doing nothing important. Every other gym I was apart of, the owner was on the main floor coaching. Do the business side of your job on your own time, we didn't pay money to stare at a phone all day and barely have any interaction. Over 40? More like 80 years and older. Don't bother wasting money here. They always play bad music to workout too anyway. There's people that talk too much and cause distractions during the workout, if you want to talk go outside or do it when people aren't trying to lift weights. This gym is also bad because they only give you 2 days to miss, if you miss any more than that there's 900 hoops through, and you still don't get to make up those hours and get charged anyway.

Great place. I'm busy, so this is a great place to "condense" your fitness in a short amount of time. Not many gyms truly understand the needs of middle-aged individuals. Honestly, can youthful and robust trainers genuinely understand a middle-aged woman in her 50s, coping with a sore back and low energy? That's why I chose Aion, as they specialize in helping people aged 40+. It's funny, but I really love being surrounded by older people, haha.

The coaches are always super supportive and full of energy, giving me awesome tips. They understand my chronic back pain and make sure to suggest alternative exercises that won't make it worse.

Due to personal reasons, I haven't been able to go to the gym for a while, but I occasionally do some of the workouts I learned from Aion at home. I hope I can return as soon as I can!

I joined to get more movement in my life and the community building aspect is one of my favorite things at Aion training. It’s been just over a month and I’ve noticed my body feels better. I started off with coach Shawn at 7am and he was very encouraging while helping me learn the proper techniques. Then I switched my schedule and started working with coach Mike at 6pm, he is always checking my form and helping me improve. I also had a chance to work with coach Kimi which was amazing! She was hyping me up and made me feel really good about myself!

I also enjoy that the Aion team switches up the workouts. Like one day we focused on breath work while doing a few exercises. I started Aion about a month and a half ago. I wanted to get myself back in shape to have more energy and focus on throughout the day. With each workout, I continue to build strength and stamina, and really feeling great about myself physically and mentally. All the trainers are very positive and great motivators, plus they are observant and provide variations of exercises when needed, such as the time when my sciatica was acting up and they helped me continue by providing modified workouts while addressing the pain and making sure I was ok. Chris here. I love this place. When I first started, I was super worried it would be like every other gym. I thought they would work me to the bone on day one to gauge my skills. Started coming to Aion to get to a healthier place. Being in my late fifties I was having less mobility and keeping up with my grandkids wasn’t easy. I started fall of 2019 and then Covid. Aion Training has been a blast since joining! All of the trainers there have been excellent to work with. They are all very suitable for successfully guiding us (the clients) through various types of fitness regiments. All of the trainers also have sharp perception and notice any improper form as they happen -- for example, if my foot placement slightly shifts, oftentimes a trainer will notice before I am able to notice or be aware of the feeling of the misplacement. The keenness and observation nature of the sessions promote proper form at all times and thus safety at all times--something I really appreciate! I also appreciate that the trainers and other long-term members don't forget the struggles a beginner has. Everyone there has been so compassionate with my initial fitness struggles. This relatability in shared early struggles allow for a level of comfort and understanding which enhances my motivation and helps me to maintain consistency with exercising, which was one of the biggest struggles I had before training here. One of this gym's strengths is providing sessions that don't get stale. We do both static and dynamic activities; we also do lots of resistant training so getting stronger is an absolute guarantee here. The trainers are also extremely well versed in modern scientific literature involving nutrition, anatomy, and biological functions related to health and fitness. Their positive reinforcement and enthusiasm has changed my approach to fitness and in a short time, this gym and its community was able to ignite the fervor I needed for improving my health and strengthening my mind-body connection. Aion Fitness is definitely worth anyone's consideration! Both the trainers and clients you'll be interacting with are wonderful people!
